II. PERSONA
Yuna has an extremely caring disposition. She always tries to put others' needs above her own, and she would gladly die in order to save other people. Seeing other people suffer is hard for her, and she has dedicated her life to becoming a summoner so that she can finally bring peace to Spira. She doesn't harbor any resentment towards her father for choosing to die and leave her alone because she sees how happy he was able to make the people of Spira for 10 years. She understands his choice and would gladly do the same.
Yuna has a hard time opening up to people and confiding her inner feelings. She doesn't want to burden other people, and she will often retreat to within herself if the conversation turns to her and her chosen path. She would much rather focus on other people and their problems than her own. Yuna can be very quiet around people she doesn't know very well, but she loves the chance to open up and laugh and have a good time when she can manage it. She secretly loves the freedom of doing what she wants even when it shocks other people, but she would never admit that or indulge in it very often.
Yuna is very loyal to her friends, and she will always choose to help them even when society looks down on her for it. She doesn't care that she's viewed as weak for having so many guardians. She doesn't care that people stared at her and Tidus when she helped him feel better by laughing out loud with him. She refuses to have Yunalesca turn any of her guardians into her final summon because she can't imagine having any of the others die for her even though she was fully prepared to die for them.
Overall, Yuna is a driven, kind woman who wants to do whatever is necessary to spare her world and its people. Even when her whole religion and worldview is exposed to be a lie, she continues on with only a brief moment of hesitation because it was never about Yevon or his teachings for her. She wants to help people for their sakes, and it doesn't matter to her if the whole world is against her. She'll still always choose to save them.

III. HISTORY
Yuna was born in Bevelle--the largest city in Spira. Her father was a priest who served at the Bevelle temple, and her mother was an Al Bhed woman whose brother Cid was the current leader of the Al Bhed. Her parent's marriage was controversial due to discrimination against the Al Bhed, and Yuna was heavily sheltered as a result.
When Yuna was four years old, her mother was killed by Sin while she was attempting to visit her family on Bikanel Island, and her father Braska was devastated as a result. Braska spent the next few years training to become a summoner so that he could defeat Sin and bring a period of calm to the world. When Yuna was seven, he finally managed to become a summoner, and he left his daughter in the care of the temple as he set off on a pilgrimage with his two guardians.
When Yuna first heard that her father had defeated Sin, she was so happy. The people were all crying and celebrating in the streets for her dad. Finally, everyone seemed to love him as much as she did. But as the hours passed, the cost of Sin's defeat finally hit her. Her dad was never coming home.
Yuna cried for a long time, but then she got a visitor--a small Ronso who had come to Bevelle all the way from Mount Gagazet. He introduced himself as Kimahri and said that it had been the last wish of a dying man that he take her to the island of Besaid. Yuna cried harder at that. It was the final confirmation that her dad truly was dead. Kimahri seemed a little uncomfortable, but he comforted her the best that he could all the way to Besaid. When they finally arrived, he tried to leave her in the care of the temple, but Yuna clung to his leg and begged him not to leave her. He was the only familiar thing to her on the island. And to her surprise, Kimahri did stay. He took a room close to the temple and did odd jobs around the island. He came to see her at the temple every day.
At first, Yuna was withdrawn from everyone except Kimahri. It seemed like everyone on the island wanted to talk to her, and they called her the High Summoner's daughter. She didn't want her dad to be the High Summoner. Not if it meant she couldn't see him anymore. But eventually, Yuna started venturing out of her room, and she quickly made friends with three older kids--Lulu, Wakka, and Chappu. Lulu was a black mage studying at the temple to become a guardian for summoners, while Wakka and Chappu were brothers who aspired to be Blitzball players.
As the years passed, Yuna was happy with her life on Besaid, and she grew proud of her dad for bringing the Calm to Spira. However, she knew that the Calm wasn't going to last. Sin would eventually come back, and life would go back to how it was before. Yuna dwelled on that, and when she was 14, she announced that she was going to enter training at the temple to become a summoner. Lulu, Wakka, and Chappu tried to talk her out of it, but Kimahri instantly offered to become her guardian. Yuna accepted and started her training at the temple. Her resolve only grew when Sin was finally reborn and her friend Chappu was killed.
Lulu and Wakka were both working as guardians at this point, and shortly before Yuna was due to start her trial, their summoner gave up his pilgrimage. At this point, they both returned to Besaid and offered their services to Yuna. She gladly accepted both of them as her guardians.
Finally, Yuna undertook her first cloister of trials to prove that she was worthy of being a summoner. The trial was hard on her--she spent over 24 hours praying to the Fayth before Valefor was finally bestowed on her and she emerged victorious as a full-fledged summoner. However, she also emerged from the temple to find a controversy going around Besaid. A stranger had come to the island--a boy her age--and he had completely ignored the precepts about who was allowed to enter the cloister of trials. He had heard that she had been inside for more than a day, and he had burst inside to try to save her life, no matter the cost.
Unlike the other priests, Yuna fully respected him for his decision. She thought that he must be incredibly brave to try to save someone's life even if other people hated him for it. There was something familiar about the boy, and after she learned that he claimed to be from Zanarkand and to be Sir Jecht's son, she was anxious to speak to him again.
During their travels, Yuna grew very close to Tidus. He was everything that she wished she could be--loud, confident, brazen, and optimistic. He always encouraged her to do the things that she wanted to do, purely because she wanted to do them. He didn't seem to think there needed to be a reason to indulge herself or to put herself first sometimes. Yuna was happy that he'd joined them and become her newest guardian. Tidus brought cheer and laughter to their group. He didn't care about the traditions that she'd been taught her entire life. Eventually, Yuna fell in love with him, though she kept it to herself.
As her pilgrimage continued, Yuna grew to learn that her religion was not what it seemed. They were introduced to one of the four Maesters of Yevon--Seymour. He was a half Guado man that she quickly connected to. He could understand the hardships of growing up as a half human just like she could, after all. However, she was blind-sided when he suddenly asked her to marry him. He claimed it was to bring a brief moment of happiness to the people of Spira, but she was uneasy as to what his true motives were. She decided to turn him down, but then she found a sphere that Seymour's father had made shortly before his death. As it turned out, Seymour had murdered him and taken his position as Maester of Yevon.
Yuna was horrified, but she still wondered if she could save Seymour. Surely he was a good man deep down. Perhaps she could persuade him to turn himself in if she agreed to his terms of marriage. Without telling her guardians her reasoning, Yuna agreed to Seymour's terms and confronted him with what she knew. He was quiet at her accusations and said that they could discuss after she'd gotten her new summon from Macalania Temple. Yuna reluctantly agreed, but her guardians burst in before she was finished. They had seen Jyscal's spehere and knew that Seymour was a murderer. Seymour threatened her guardians and summoned a powerful aeon to attack them. Yuna stepped in to protect them, and they were forced to kill Seymour in self-defense.
Branded traitors because they had killed a Maester of Yevon, Yuna and her guardians fled Macalania Temple without being able to either send Seymour or clear their names. Because he was an unsent, Seymour quickly returned from the dead and sent out a few Guado to capture Yuna. She was brought to Bevelle where he told her that he would forgive her crimes against him if she went through with their marriage. Secretly waiting for a chance to send him, Yuna agreed, and their wedding ceremony began.
However, her guardians infiltrated in the middle of the wedding. Despite their best efforts, they were immediately captured and held at gunpoint. Yuna was threatened with their lives, so she reluctantly finished the ceremony and married Seymour. However, Seymour ordered her friends' deaths anyway, so Yuna leapt off the balcony to cause a distraction so that her guardians could escape. They were all eventually recaptured, but Yuna at least managed to get the next aeon from the Bevelle Temple first.
On trial, Yuna learned some hard truths about Yevon. Grand Maester Mika was also an unsent, and he refused to help them or allow her to send Seymour. He ordered their deaths by the Via Purifico instead. Thankfully, they managed to escape after defeating Seymour a second time, but Yuna's confidence in herself and Yevon was shaken. She was no longer sure that she should continue on, and she confessed her doubts and fears to Tidus. He tried to cheer her up, and they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other with a kiss.
Feeling reassured after her conversation with Tidus, Yuna decided to continue her pilgrimage. However, when they finally reached Zanarkand, her entire worldview was shaken by Yunalesca who greeted them in the temple. Sin--she had always been taught--would go away when humanity had repented for its sins. However, Yunalesca was dismissive of this point. Humanity would never reach that level of purity, she claimed. Sin was eternal. Not only that, but there was no true final summon. Yuna would have to choose one of her guardians who would sacrifice their life to be her final summon.
Yuna was left reeling after both of these pieces of information. No--she told Yunalesca. She wouldn't choose. She would have gladly died for Spira for the chance to save everyone, but she wouldn't if there was no hope. And she would never let one of her guardians die for her.
Dismissive of their points, Yunalesca attacked them, but they were able to defeat her. As she faded away, the enormity of their actions hit them. There was no longer any way to obtain a final summon. Unless they devised another method of defeating Sin, then Sin would be around forever.
Auron told them to consider what they knew--that Sin was Jecht. Tidus brought up that his dad had always loved the Hymn of the Fayth. It never failed to calm Jecht down. Armed with that knowledge, they blared the Hymn of the Fayth from the speakers of their airship while requesting that everyone on land who could hear the hymn join in. Sure enough, Sin showed up to listen to the Hymn, and they managed to blast a hole in his body and climb inside while he was relatively calm.
Finally, they were able to confront Jecht from inside Sin. Jecht warned them that he wouldn't be able to stop himself and that they shouldn't hold back before transforming and attacking them. They were able to defeat Jecht, and he and Tidus had an emotional moment before he passed away.
Angry, Yevon attempted to create a new Sin by possessing each of Yuna's aeons in turn. Crushed, Yuna was forced to summon each one of her aeons that had helped them along the way and kill them before Yevon could complete their transformation into Sin. Finally, Yevon had nothing to hide behind, and they were able to confront him directly. Yuna no longer had her aeons to help her, but she still had her guardians, and together they were able to kill Yevon and release the grip that he'd had on Spira for over 1,000 years.
Yuna knew she had one last job to do, and she performed a final sending to release Sin and all of the aeons into the afterlife. However, to her shock, she saw that Tidus was also fading away. He told her that he had to leave, and in a blind panic, she tried to chase after him, only to fall right through him. She confessed that she loved him, and Tidus wrapped his arms around her one last time before joining his father in the afterlife.
Yuna was heartbroken at all the loss they had faced in order to secure their victory, but she vowed that she wouldn't let herself break down. She would help lead Spira into the next chapter of its history. Sin was gone. That was worth celebrating. In the meantime, she would be someone that Tidus and her father could both be proud of before she saw them again.
