Thinking of you, wherever you are I've returned from memories past, reborn anew

Claire exhaled a sigh of relief, before flashing a friendly smile that was wider than the last. She skipped about, leading him back to the cabin and upon his inquiry about her name; Claire spun on the ball of her feet and began to walk backwards for a moment. "Ah... I'm sorry, where are my manners. I might have left them back home, just a moment." taking a moment to clear her throat, she gestured to herself using her right hand.
"My name is Claire, Claire Farron. Nice to meet you, Caius and thanks for accompanying me." Claire announced calmly, trying to be as mature and respectful as she could. Even with her growing enthusiasm, as well as appreciation for the Dragonblade. Once she was done, she spun around and walked by Caius side. Bit by bit, she felt she could lower her guard and try to relax. What mattered, now that she felt safe; was getting information and Caius provided plenty. Given he started with a geography lesson, Claire nodded along in acknowledgement. She reckoned Serah was likely in Provo City proper thus she gazed in the direction as they walked away from the main road.
Knowing where they were, that of Zephon, as well as other notable territories made her feel a bit giddy. For the possibility of exploring those places could be on the table in the near future! For the moment, she need only listen and try to absorb the information shared. Getting to understand how this world worked, in terms of its selection; was valuable intel. It certainly got her thinking about Serah. Her sister was older in this world, so then... was she from the same world variant or perhaps a different one? She couldn't help but inquire, along with another thought bothering her.
"So then...it's possible that the Serah here, is a different world variant from my own? I mean... she's older from what little I heard. Yet, I only know my little sister, she's twelve currently. I'm a bit worried for her, if she is indeed back home still. My Mother was the last person I saw and the words she told me, didn't feel like there was much time left..." biting her bottom lip for a moment, she tried to hold back the surge of emotions. There was something bittersweet about having the memory of her Mother's embrace be the last she saw of her world. Given that Caius said he'd been in this new world for two to three years, there wasn't any "going back" anytime soon.
What prevented a complete freak out then, was that, there was a Serah that was older here, meaning she succeeded in raising her little Sister when the time came, surely. So, all she needed to do was wait for that little, BIG sister and see just how well she turned out. It was so simple, that hope filled her heart instead. There was no need to panic at all, it was better to pave the way forward for a good life here. Thus as the Cabin loomed up the gentle slope in the woods, she looked to Caius for a different inquiry.
"If one were to go to school in this world, preferably to learn magic, I guess, then... which of those territories should I go to?" part of not being a burden, was having a relatively safe establishment to attend. If she was going to school, then Serah wouldn't have to worry. More than that, she could get a fresh start compared to her previous school life. There hadn't been time to attend clubs or spend too much time with friends after school. Heading home early meant getting chores done for her Mom, as well as watching Serah.
"Also, what's life in Provo like? I want to know all the exciting places to visit, the best places to eat, specialty foods, you name it~" having some knowledge that she could use to surprise Serah with later, was nice. That way, Serah would know she could rely on her and not worry too much. She'd never been a big sister before, the stress would surely impact her. So, just like with their Mom, she'd help Serah where she could. As that's what big LITTLE sisters were for!

The Dragonglaive
Caius smiled softly as she tried to be mature and all grown up in her introduction. He bowed his head slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Faron" he greeted her in turn. Then came more questions, and her hypothesis.
"Yes and no. If the only difference between you is that she's older than you... Then that doesn't answer that question, no. The more likely case is that she was taken from a later point in time, within the same timeline. When I say variant, I mean that events happened differently between two different timestreams. While people I've met have been taken from different points in the same timestream. So Noctis and his friends are from different years, but still know each other as events happened the same for them. But I'm from a different variant entirely, where the events that happened to them, didn't happen to me. And vice versa. But technically, if she's older than you, then she is and isn't your Serah. She is in that you're from the same timestream, most likely. But she was taken from a different point in time than where you were taken, meaning you weren't taken together from the exact same scenario. If that makes sense... I hope it does to you, because it still doesn't make much sense to me. This is all guesswork, honestly. Just what I've put together from people I've met" he explained, scratching his head. "Unfortunately, this would also plausibly mean that yes, you left behind a younger Serah in your time, while the Serah here left behind an older sister Claire" he admitted with a frown. That was going to be a hard and bitter pill to swallow if her little sister was only twelve. She was just a bit younger than he was when he had been stuck on his own...
"Then again, I don't really understand the full extent of how this works. I don't know if plucking us creates new alternate timelines entirely where we are absent, or if only a copy of our souls are taken and placed in new bodies when we come here. And unless we explicitly meet someone who had someone disappear without a trace, and then wind up here, which I haven't yet... We'll likely never find out. The optimistic side of me though, wants to think that only a copy of our consciousness is transferred into a new body, or something like that. I mean, think about it. There are hundreds upon thousands of Outlanders that were sent to this world, right? Wouldn't creating a new timeline for every single one potentially break something by now? That's a lot of strain on the time... Stream, or whatever. All I know for sure is that, to use you guys as an example: You being plucked from your time right now didn't have any effect on how things were for Serah when she was plucked, by the sounds of it. That's the case for a lot of Outlanders I've met."
He shrugged his shoulders. "But again, yeah. I just don't know and probably never will find out" he ended the explanation with. He sighed in turn. All of this was so confusing. "I've learned that there's no sense in worrying about it. I worry sometimes, but I've been here a few years and found that worrying in excess is impractical. The least I can do is put my thoughts to saving who I can here, in this world. And to have confidence that those I left behind will live on, and if I'm lucky, may very well join me eventually."
He hoped he didn't bum her out too much, and he tried to keep up a smile to do his best to help. At least when she asked her next question, it was something he could answer better.
"Torensten, Provo and Sonora all teach magic in schools in some measure, I would hazard a guess. But as it's not an inherent thing, it'll likely only teach about what they are, and such. For their actual use... You'd need to find a specialist. Your best bet would be Torensten's university of magic. But you might be a little young to attend" he brought up. "They might make an exception since you're an Outlander, and already show expertise in magic. But I don't know for sure. All I know is that Torensten has the best magic education around. I'd hope so, since the entire nation is powered by it."
He scratched his peachfuzz though, at the last question. "That's a tougher one, I'm not too familiar with Provo's culture myself. But what I do know is that the capital, which is just up the road from here, is a massive trading post. It trades goods from around the nation, as well as secondhand goods you can typically only find in Torensten and Sonora. Which is good, as I wouldn't recommend going to Sonora at least until you're older. Even I avoid the place like the plague if I can help it. But moving around Provo, you'll find lots of farms, and chocobo breeding farms as well. Chocobo races are pretty popular here, I'd recommend taking your sister to one sometime."

Claire could see why even Caius was confused, it seemed for Outlanders like themselves, there was a grand mystery, dare she say, conspiracy; about their arrival. Given Caius had been here for awhile, his theory didn't have many holes but there was only anecdotal evidence. Part of her wanted to be cynical, to think the worse so as to prevent disappointment. Things were rarely as they seemed, she'd learned that from an early age. What stopped Claire, was the smile Caius maintained throughout.
Her visage shifted into something pensive, before settling on optimism. "To tell you the truth, I'm a habitual worrier." Claire rubbed the back of her head, feeling embarrassed. "Still, I believe you. There's a lot of hope in what you say. If this older Serah is just from a different point in time, then it'll be a great relief for me. I wasn't sure how I was going to pull off taking care of the two of us, especially in a new world. I'll be happy if she's grown up to be an amazing woman." she smiled bashfully, before looking to the door of the cabin.
Turning about she decided being outside of it was the best for now. Letting in strangers was something her Mom had instructed her not to do after all. "Besides, this world sounds...incredible. I want to see it all and if we're stuck here, then we're stuck, no sense worrying about it." not that she seemed worried, though closer inspection revealed she wasn't merely hiding her emotions either. How could she suppress the bubbling excitement and awe? Her eyes had the glint of adventure in them, as well as a bit of mischief.
"Magic is really exciting, I can't stop at the Thunder spells that Mog taught me. Speaking of, I wonder where he went. It's my fault for ditching, er I mean, splitting up. I'd wanted to scan the perimeter around the cabin. I'm sure he'll find me before Serah gets here, so long as I stay put." Claire let out a nervous giggle, more so for Mog's sake. If Serah found out that he let a kid get the better of him. Judging from how she sounded earlier, Mog was probably doomed! Fortunately, she wasn't going to let her partner in crime meet such a terrible end. Covering for him was the least she could do.
"Setting aside the University for a moment, this world has Chocobos too!?" she had to stop herself from spinning about in delight. After all, she wasn't twelve anymore! (Though, likely, once Caius left, she'd probably run and jump about) Instead, she tried feigning being more mature by taking a seat and intertwining her fingers within her lap, albeit tightly. "I have to ride on one. At least once..." nevermind taking Serah to see one, the goal was to participate at some point. Tapping her feet for a bit, she began to ponder what else to ask about. At this point, her inquiries were largely for her own amusement, instead of logical.
"So, how do people dress in this world? Does it vary by region? Are they all old-timey~?" so much for her front of maturity, the real Claire was leaking out faster than a faucet. "I've always liked traditional fashion. With the right materials, I could make outfits... It might be challenging without a sewing machine but if I account for the complexity of designs..." there was a palpable energy about Claire now, as if sparks could go flying at any moment.

The Dragonglaive
Caius didn't know all the answers, unfortunately. He only had guesses, and he would likely only ever have guesses. The mysteries of the universe would be permanently rendered just that -- a mystery. At least until the Lore Goddess changed her mind. Meanwhile, Caius chuckled a bit at Claire's admittance. "Me too" he admitted in turn. He worried about everyone around him, especially those he was close to. Something that had put him at odds with Celes a few times, though he hadn't yet been able to word correctly to her that he was just a habitual worrier. So he understood her plight, and her worries over her sister. Both this one, and the one she may well have left back home. "I'm sure it'll be fine. The present is what should be your focus now" he tried to reassure her with a soft tone. He really did wish he had more to give her, but this was about all that he had. With what he knew, anything but the theory he had would make absolutely no sense. That many timelines existing was bound to break something, right? So it had to be their essences, or something like that. He had never actually met someone who's loved one had just been whisked away suddenly. None of them had any knowledge of this phenomenon until it had happened to them.
At least she seemed to understand there was no sense worrying, which was good. Caius knew personally just how much of a hole you could dig yourself into worrying about that. They both needed to focus on the here and the now, and it was good she'd started to see that. Whether she would accept it in the long term, was yet to be seen. But she seemed excited to see what this world had to offer, which was a great start and that put a slightly relieved smile to his face. She had seemingly left behind a companion, though. He scratched his head in turn. "I'm sure he'll turn up. But if not we can look" Caius offered. It was the least he could do.
But the topic of chocobos came up, and Caius couldn't help but laugh in turn. There was definitely some excitement there. Well, some might be understating it. It was like a raging wildfire lurking underneath the surface, just waiting to get out. He understood it very well. "Perhaps when your sister returns, she can take you to see one of the chocobo races, or at least to visit one of the farms" he offered. He'd remember that chocobo thing too. "And you can be excited if you want, Claire. I grew up on a chocobo farm, I completely understand" Caius offered to clear her anxiety over trying to act like the mature one, chuckling a bit more with that.
The questions continued. "They vary. Each region has their own sense of fashion, by what I've seen. I'm from Torensten, so armored garments like mine are pretty common over there. Provo's a bit more of a spun fabric and robes kind of thing by what I've seen. Sonora... Is a bit closer to what I'm used to seeing back home, but the guards are all pretty heavily armored. And guards are everywhere. Quite literally" he remarked. He really did not like Sonora. The place gave him the creeps. But Claire's enthusiasm kept things as warm as could be.

Focusing on the present wasn't only easier to do, it was more exciting in truth. The present, in a new world, with so much possibilities, was truly exciting. Claire was quite adaptable, regardless of the age; so her sights were being set relatively quickly. As was her bubbling ambitions, as she'd been given a golden ticket; free of past inhibitions, free of even ones that threatened to surface. Now, she could just focus on the here and now.
"I'm not too worried about Mog, in truth. He's smarter than he looks, very cunning that one. Plus, I'm sure he didn't go far, the Cabin is...modest in size, judging by the outside. The real trouble is for him when Serah does finally arrive. She sounded... kind of like a Mom would sound." getting used to that, she reckoned would be a learning experience. "Maybe we should search for him, for his sake." a nervous laugh escaped her lips. Such was the imagined terror that loomed in her imagination. Well, part of it wasn't just imagined, she heard it, quite distinctively.
Contrast to her gambit at being mature, Claire was rather animated in her shock. "...Ahaha, well... that's good to know." She took a moment to compose her excitement into clear speech all the same. "...Given what you said about Chocobos, it does explain the smell. Now that I know what it is, I don't mind as much. I just want to see a few races and eventually, participate. I didn't get a chance to do such back home. So, I guess I've got a bucket list now." a bucket list that was expanding rapidly the more she adjusted to this new reality.
"So, regarding Sonora. You mentioned their clothing style being like back home. From what you've said so far, that must mean something post modern, right? It feels like your world is similar to mines but I know I don't have enough to go on. Just a feeling, since you mentioned growing up on a Chocobo farm." Claire could tell from Caius words he didn't like Sonora but if it was the closest proxy to home, then she'd like to see it and get some materials from there at some point. Right now though, Provo's fashion style sounded fun and fit what she imagined. Making something by hand with conventional sewing would be easier with robes and such. Making herself a mage outfit should be simple!

The Dragonglaive
It had taken a long time for Caius to see this new world as "exciting". To him, it had been absolutely terrifying and nothing more. He had many things tying him to his world. A liege, a duty, a purpose... He may not have had friends or family, no attachments of the sort. But he had felt for a long time like he was leaving his task unfinished. But over time, he had grown used to this world. And he had more here than he had back home since when he was a kid. Which was the last time his world had ever truly felt like a home. It had taken him far longer than she did to come to this conclusion, but... Then again, she had Mog and her sister. She was lucky in that way, and Caius was happy for her. It was almost shocking how quickly she had become excited about this world, but she had done it. Even if it was a little bit easier when you brought a bit of home with you. He was almost a bit envious.
So long as she could actually find this Mog, anyway. But she seemed to be confident they would turn up eventually. She said they should search for him right away though, or else Serah might sound "like a mom sounded" as she put it. Caius scratched his head as he chewed the inside of his cheek, not really sure how to answer. Was that a bad thing? How did a mom sound like? He knew bits and pieces from families he had interacted with, but...
It had been so long since he had experienced it personally that even his memories were hazy. "I don't quite understand the concern regarding your sister, but if you feel it is cause for concern, we can search if you wish" he responded calmly in kind.
At least chocobos he could understand. Such simple creatures. They just wanted to kweh and wark, get fat on chocobo feed and run around all day without a care in the world. Claire meanwhile wanted to one day participate in a chocobo race. "If I get a chance, perhaps I can teach you how to ride" he offered with a gentle smile. Though the smile faded when she mentioned Sonora again. Then came question of his own world, and he chewed on his cheek again. "Sort of, I guess. Never really thought of whether it was "modern" or not considering the stark differences between the three countries" Caius admitted. "I didn't exactly grow up with much technology available to me, so it didn't take much for me to get used to Torensten. Sonora meanwhile would probably scare me even if I was used to the technology there."
