Imagine it. You push past a gated entrance and step into a pub that could pass for a saloon from the oldest wild western movie in all the land. The music is primarily piano based, though that might be because there's an actual piano organ to the side. There are tables strewn across the room of the first floor, with a set of staircases leading to a set of rooms just up above. Straight across from the double gated doors once pushed through is the bar, with a series of stools placed in every spot they can get one. A bartender wearing a large hat stands alone manning the homefront, sliding drinks like there was no tomorrow.
And Caius needed to find some work. But with the police around and as strict as there was, not many who were looking for a monster slayer. So Caius had found himself in the same saloon that he and the spike-haired kid had dragged themselves into not ten minutes after fighting a giant mechanical house that had been the spawn of three of them merging together, growing giant long legs and promptly rampaging through the city. He hoped that maybe he would be able to hear some rumblings about monsters in the outskirts. Perhaps someone was hiring to take them out? There always seemed to be trouble in the surrounding areas. He just hoped nobody else wanted him to take care of "pests" like the last job. He was not interested in that kind of thing.
Caius had seated himself at the bar and just shortly before had ordered his first drink of the night as he settled himself in. Through all the noise, he was hoping to try and eavesdrop a little bit. Surely it wouldn't be all important info, but maybe he could find something.
Nothing. So far every whisper that had graced her led to nothing. There were no leads to work with and so far nothing was very helpful. The most useful information was that this was the land of Zephon and this city was called Sonora. Apparently, the other cities weren't as north as this one and had less overall snow, ice, and cold. Guess that remained to be seen, but for now there was a particular bar she was looking to find since it seemed to have a habit of collecting warriors from strange lands within it's walls....at least that was the rumor she'd heard of the place.
It took a bit of exploring within the city to finally find this tavern. How it was possible to miss was some sort of strange miracle but somehow Fang had done just that the first time she entered the city. The double gated doors fell open with a gentle push as she entered the bar. Her olive green gaze swept the room as she walked inside. Her footsteps were lost in the rampant noise and piano music as she made her way to the counter but unfortunately for her, she was far from lost in the shuffle. Her ocean blue attire carried the feel of someone that belonged in the grasslands of the south not here in the blistering cold of the north.
In a matter of moments, Fang was seated on the opposite end of the counter from another who's attire didn't exactly fit in with the crowd that was here. Alcohol certainly could fix that but nothing sounded remotely like what was available back on Gran Pulse. It wasn't even close to what she'd seen on Cocoon for that matter. Either way, something was better than nothing and it was far easier to blend in and listen for anything useful. What good was searching for people without information. Then again, maybe helping these people out with their monster problems would help make them talk a little easier. If not there was always the option of falling back on old habits like when she technically kidnapped Snow.
Just as Fang was about to order a drink from the bartender, a certain set of whispers caught her attention. A couple of gentleman sitting at a nearby table were discussing a strange beast they'd seen earlier. In comparison, they thought it was a demon, only appearing at night and slaughtering any who were unlucky enough to cross it's path. Lately however, this demon had apparently been striking along a rather popular trade route, harming business and families alike. Now that sounded like a good start to getting people to give her the information she needed. A confident little smirk played at the edge's of Fang's lips as she turned in her seat to face the pair. "Hear you've got a bit of a demon problem. How about I handle it for you?"

Sonora's military force was the most strict and refined in all of Serentestra. Their military might couldn't be beat, and the main bulk of the city was fairly clean of crime as a result. But the trade routes and areas outside of the city were another matter. They couldn't be everywhere at once. Especially when Sonora was such a massive city. They needed every able hand possible in the city itself, which left only a limited amount to deal with the monsters that tended to crop up on the outskirts.
And it seemed that it was one of these that had been causing trouble on a trade route. Surely, the military would go for it eventually when it became enough of a problem, but for a mercenary like Caius? He heard an opportunity. Handling it as soon as possible, if someone was hiring out to get that trade route cleared out? Or, well, even if they just needed the help, since it got the word out on his work. It helped the merchants, which was what he wanted. But he also knew it was an opportunity that he couldn't afford to miss out on.
He'd only downed one drink when he heard about the demon issue. Slaughtering people left and right at night? Well, that was something that needed to be dealt with. He rose from his feet and walked over, just to hear someone else speak out their desire to fight it.
"Where is it?"
Caius had gotten straight to the point after they had caught the attention of the two conversationalists. They looked from each other, to the two. Looked like the man and woman standing before them were complete nutters. Either way, they shrugged.
"Your funeral. Just east of here. Jagged rock area. Can't miss it."
Caius nodded his head in thanks, before quickly paying his tab and gingerly walking out through the double doors.
Well, well. Seemed there was another taker and he happened to steal the next words right out of Fang's mouth just before they could be uttered. A faint smirk rested on her lips as she listened to the general location of the monster along with the lovely vote of confidence that came with it. As Caius paid his tab, she slid off the barstool before following him out the door. Once they were outside, her gaze settled on the blonde stranger that had also shown an interest in helping these people. Whatever his motive, he at least knew the way based on how confidently he walked out.
"I'm coming with you, whether you like it or not." There was no asking if Caius wanted or even needed the help. It wasn't even an offer. Of course with a wildcard like this tagging along what was the worst that could happen? Having help against some unknown monster should be a good thing right? Well they were going to need to figure this out relatively quick, especially if a successful mission was the goal.
After a somewhat quiet trek, far enough that the city was almost out of sight, Fang's gaze flickered to the path they were on as if there was something of note just ahead of where they were. Any hunter worth their salt back on Gran Pulse could track a monster as long as there was a trail, no matter how faint. Fang included. "Wait a minute," she said, going on ahead by a few yards and stopping by what most people would assume were the normal tracks of frequent use. Her gaze scanned the prints carefully before looking on ahead. "Shouldn't be too far ahead of where we are. Never saw a monster get this close to a settlement before unless it was sent though."

Caius wasn't waiting. If this was an active situation, he didn't have anything to do. He might as well go out and take care of it as soon as possible. And demons? Might they be like the ones that he saw from his own world? With the Starscourge hanging out in Provo now, it was very possible they had returned. Which meant that the region was in serious danger if Caius didn't rout them out now. Sure, a woman had gone and asked after it, but Caius knew these things better than anyone around here. He wouldn't risk someone else in this if he could help it. He had paid his tab and marched out to go and deal with it when he was stopped by the woman from before.
It seemed he had no choice, since she was going whether he liked it or not. So he just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't mind a hand if you know what you're getting into" he remarked casually, holding out a hand to her. "Caius" he introduced himself curtly and formally. "I'm a mercenary. What's your experience? Mercenary as well?" he then inquired. While he had no qualms about working with her, he needed to know what he could of her. For several reasons, really. First of all, forming strategies would be much easier if he could get a proper picture of the woman's background, and then her abilities and skills. This way, he could know what to expect from her and plan around it, allowing for a better chance of the two of them surviving. The other reason being that if she had a background in fine dining and breathing or something, then he was most likely sending this woman to her death. She looked tough enough, but Caius knew better than anyone that looks were deceiving.
The woman though, went on ahead once they got to a certain point. She seemed to be a tracker of some sort, or so he'd like to hope.
"They called them demons. Either they're just talking about typical monsters, or something I know very well. It's something I'd like to find out as quickly as possible, and get rid of them either way."
