It seemed he was choosing his words carefully. The way he bit his lip as he thought about how to respond was certainly a telltale sign of it. She already scared him with her earlier greeting, did she? Oh well. “Trouble? Is that so? Plenty of that here.” That’s why their police force was so large. The technology was good here. And so were those good with technology and hiding their stuff. “I am sure you took care of it. But it also seemed they got the better of you too.” And if it was to that scale, it would probably be in the newspaper later.
She leaned an elbow along the counter and propped the side of her cheek up with her fingers. “Oh? Were you big into diets? Or is it because your story about the darkness swallowing up everything took out all the fast food joints?” It was unimaginable to not see one of these growing up. “Sonora has lots of the modern comforts as long as you don’t mind the cold outside.” She preferred it. It reminded her of home, even if it was not home itself. Or perhaps, it was now her new home. Who knew? “Larger? That’s an interesting difference. Hopefully the food is better.”
She provided the waitress with an order, and then patiently waited for his order. He seemed in too much of a hurry to guess what he wanted. The waitress put the order booklet in her apron pocket and took up their menus again. Leaving them to their conversation. “Not the best quality food, but its efficient. “So, you haven’t been here long…Just enough to get into trouble. Hmm.” Cissnei thought for a moment. “Well, there is plenty to enjoy. What do you do for fun? Maybe I can point something out?”

There was no point in hiding it, he supposed. While he didn't want to really seem like he was boasting, not to mention just how absurd the whole thing was, he couldn't resist telling a good story either. He supposed the absurdity could make for a harrowing tale. They hadn't had a chance to trade stories since their first meeting, after all.
Ironically it was his attempts to not seem rude to her that had made her think he thought anything less of her. Ain't that a kick in the pants?
She pointed out that whatever it was, it was clear it got the better of him too, and she was absolutely right. He smiled a bit at that. "It was a hell of a house party, I'll give it that" he joked, not being able to resist the pun. "I'd just got into town when it showed up. And then several like it. I don't know if you have the time for another story, though" he admitted. Fast food was meant to be fast, right? While she had suggested the place out of consideration of his hunger and fatigue, it was possible she had places to be too. So he left it up to her.
At her question, he chuckled lightly. "Believe it or not, they actually did. I think it was just around when I first set out on my own that I first went to one" he added, tapping his fingers on the menu while he considered his order as well as what age he might have been. How long ago was it? It felt like an eternity ago. "I'm not the best at keeping track of my age, but I'm going to guess I was about 13 or 14 last I saw one, before the daemons got stronger. They were averse to light, and a gas station fast food joint had plenty. But as they got stronger, that light wasn't enough. But I got a few visits in. Food was good enough, I certainly wasn't complaining when otherwise all I had was rations at the time."
"Gas station food joint" also probably settled why this was larger. This wasn't some small roadside thing, this was a city place. He mulled over the menu a bit longer. At first he'd been planning to copy her order, but... Well a fair bit of them looked appealing. Deciding to go with his gut in the end, he placed his order and handed the menu back.
"I'm still getting used to the cold. I've spent a lot of time in Torensten" he brought up casually. "I've never sniffled and sneezed as much as I have in the short time I've been here."
Cissnei asked him what he did for fun, and after a moment to think about it... He stopped and scratched his head sheepishly. "I uh..." he trailed off. Things he did for fun? That was a first he'd been asked that. In hindsight, did he ever really do anything for fun? He enjoyed his work, but aside from fishing for more fish to feed Vordun with on the road, he didn't really do much for recreation. "I can't really think of anything, if I'm being honest. I apologize if that's a boring answer. I've always been a little bit... Work oriented. Just a bit."
She curiously wondered what he was talking about. His pun was lost to her without knowing what the ‘it’ referred to. “When what showed up? You started. You can’t leave me hanging on the next part now.” She nudged him, then looking passed him as the waitress returned with her vanilla shake in a tall serving glass. She received it and used the long silver spoon to swirl it to soften it up. She was still healing and had no particular plans after she closed up her shop. But, who knew if she got another phone call requesting her presence.
She raised a brow and placed a small spoon scoop of shake in her mouth to test its texture. “I’m sorry to hear that. Well, welcome back to a burger joint. No darkness will swallow it on my watch.” Cissnei teased with a wink. “The city doesn’t sleep either, so it's never very dark.” Just a little grungy and greasy. But it would never be her Midgar. That city would always have a special place in her heart. But she would forge herself a home here as needed. “But the cold… I can’t say one can get used to it. It’s just something you learn to tolerate.”
She drank her shake, one elbow leaned against the bar as the other hand held up the shake. Patiently she waited for his response on what he did for fun. It seemed to be taking some hot minutes as she could see the steam coming out of his ears with his thinking. She daintily shrugged at his apology. “To each their own.” She set her shake down and gave a soft hum. “While you are here, you could always check out some of the popular spots here. Expand your horizons a little?” It would certainly help him find people if that’s what he was looking for.
“You could probably take a turn at the hot springs. They say the ones here have healing properties.” She eyed him. He looked like he needed some restoration. If one did not maintain themselves, then they could not be useful for the next mission.

He had figured she wouldn't want to miss the rest, but Caius didn't know Cissnei's schedule so he didn't want her to feel obligated to listen to the whole thing. They did have some time while they waited for their order, as he didn't know just how fast, fast food was in Sonora. But he still wanted to try and be courteous in some respect. It wasn't long at all before her shake arrived though. Not bad. He hadn't even gotten started yet.
"Well, I do look forward to re-experiencing it" he joked in turn with a small laugh. And he was serious, as tired as he seemed. While he felt like he'd been put through the ringer (he really had) it was surreal to experience something again that in his world was impossible. It was like a piece of his childhood had been brought back. Or well, the closest thing he could remember to childhood, considering the darkness was around back then too. Still, it was a nice bit of nostalgia, and a little piece of home that Caius had sorely been lacking since being sent here. Sonora reminded him of home in a lot of ways, though in others it was still very, very different. He still preferred the free, friendly spirit of Torensten, personally. He didn't feel like he had to constantly look over his shoulder in Torensten. Sonora was... Rigid. Strict. Like something could go wrong at a moment's notice, or you could be arrested for not tying your left shoe properly. Luckily Caius wore armored boots. When it came to the cold, he shrugged his shoulders. "Sounds about right. Guess I'll learn."
The heat was something to get used to in Torensten too, considering his choice of clothes. But that somehow seemed to be easier than in Sonora. Weird, that. His own shake arrived soon after, and he gave a thanks before taking a long drink from it while Cissnei made suggestions regarding what he could do in Sonora. He stared at her with increasingly piqued interest (Not that he wasn't already very much interested in Cissnei and what she had to say in the first place) as she went on. "Oh really?" he inquired when she brought up the hot springs and their healing properties. Now there was something he could definitely look into. Having a means of healing up after battles, especially with his current state, might be the best start for practical-minded Caius. He was grateful to hear about that.
"Right, back to the story... Well, when I was first getting into town, some nutjob had let loose this... Literal house. Like, a small house. On legs. With an AI system. It had gone nuts and was heading for the gates, so I decided to take care of it before it got into the city. Then it turned out he'd unleashed two more of them. Was able to rout them with the help of another swordsman, but just when we had the things on the ropes, they suddenly melded together. And this insane looking.... Transforming... Robot... House... Thing, hurtled through the gates faster than we could stop it. With the gentleman's help though, we managed to take it down before it could do too much damage to the city. But I didn't exactly come out unscathed either. Between the spinning razors, being kicked by a metal leg, and having ungodly sounds screeching at point blank range, I don't think I'll be hearing properly for a little while. I don't think this headache's going away anytime soon either" he summed it up in fairly decent time. "Whole thing ended up a shock to my system, whatever damage the thing did. Couldn't get any food down, so just ended up booking a place to sleep. Slept longer than planned, and then woke up completely famished."
With that story in the books though, there was one thing he was curious about.
"Speaking of going-ons, why don't you tell me a little about this agency you said you're getting going? I'm curious what it's all about. If it's something you're heading, it must be formidable."
The shake seemed to have brightened his mood a bit. The color was returning to his face a little. By the time he was done eating, he'd probably be fully back to his old self. Or close enough, anyway.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Cissnei is impressed he beat three houses, but did he finish the job?

[attr="class","crashBody"] He gave simple answers to confirm her remarks. Not that there was much to add to those subjects, but to her, it felt he was more eager to tell his story than the other topics. She could not blame him. It was probably an exciting one to tell considering the state he was in. [break][break] A soft shrug fell from her shoulders as she turned to her shake.“Yes. The minerals from the northern mountain range filter into the hot springs - fifty-one in all. And it maintains a comfortable 85 degrees, which further soothes aching muscles. It’s basically maintaining yourself for work. ...And thaws you from the cold too. ” It didn’t seem he had many other hobbies, so this seemed the best option for him. Though part of her doubted he could sit still in a spring long enough for the effects of the water to take. But, who was she to butt into the way he lived his life? As long as his actions didn’t step on her toes, anyway. [break][break] She quietly listened as he jumped into his story. Cissnei raised a brow at hearing about walking AI houses bent on destruction. Oddly, it sounded familiar enough for her to believe. Though she couldn’t put a finger on why. “Two more? Yikes.” Fighting one house seemed quite a feat. Fighting two more...well…She listened attentively still trying to imagine it. She looked thoughtful instead of completely surprised out of shock. [break][break] How did one even go about fighting a house? Her brow creased at the thought. “I’m surprised you can have this conversation. I would have expected you to talk louder due to hearing loss.” His ears were probably fine. He didn’t exhibit the signs of true hearing loss. Though, he may have tinnitus for a bit. “A swordsman? I wonder who he is.” She said thoughtfully, as she looked up to see the waitress bringing their meal. “And hopefully the man who made the houses was captured and turned over to the authorities?” Or else they could end up with more of these issues. Cissnei’s Turk instincts were beginning to ask more questions about the incident rather than sit there and gape in awe. [break][break] With her half finished shake, she turned to her platter of burger and fries. She delicately picked a fry and was about to pop it in her mouth when his next question stopped her. She contemplated how to respond. Carefully, of course. “It’s nothing great like the Dragonblades. It’s just an investigation agency called Angel Eyes Detective Agency. Sometimes people need a more delicate approach to problem solving. I’m their lady.” She said humbly before putting the fry in her mouth. After chewing thoughtfully, “And it’s been my job since I’ve got to Sonora.”

Caius actually was quite interested in the hot springs. Something that could rejuvenate his energy reserves and help take care of his body? Especially in Sonora where danger seemed to be everywhere, it would potentially be quite the boon. Cissnei continued on with the details of the hot springs, and Caius listened with an ear for detail. Its abilities to soothe aching muscles, though he didn't know if it was legitimate, was at least worth checking out. And Caius wasn't exactly shy about having no shirt on in front of other people, so it wasn't like there would be a sense of modesty that would get in the way or anything. Anything to get out of this wretched cold, too. Being used to Torensten, this cold was very uncomfortable for him. He'd deal if he had to, but... It sounded like this could be a good alternative.
As he told his story, Cissnei brought up that it was a surprise he wasn't dealing with hearing loss. "I'm surprised myself. Though my ears are still ringing here and there. It's probably going to be a few days before everything clears up. I was completely unprepared for it" he admitted. Though he frowned when she asked if the man behind it had been captured, and shook his head. "He got away in the chaos. Didn't have a chance to arrest him, the city and civilians had to take priority."
The stupid fool could be anywhere by now. Building more robots, possibly. He didn't seem malicious, just... Not very bright. Caius clearly wasn't happy that he'd gotten away, but there hadn't really been anything he could do. It had taken the full strength of Caius, Cloud and Vordun to beat the merged monster as soon as possible before casualties could start to line up. His eyes brightened when the food arrived. He popped a fry from his own platter into his mouth, though still listened carefully while she spoke. Making sure his mouth wasn't full when he responded, he smiled in turn.
"I think that suits you perfectly" he brought up warmly. "Your problem-solving skills are fantastic, and you were able to consider solutions that hadn't even crossed my mind. I'm sure you're going to do great, if you haven't already done great things with it. Wouldn't surprise me one bit."
His own burger would be absolutely devoured very quickly the first chance he got following this, though he still tried his best to be polite and respectful with Cissnei there.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Maybe time to wrap this thread up if we aren't going after gangsters?
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Maid Service: [break]Cleaning the Streets
[attr="class","crashBody"] Cissnei’s frown deepened at hearing that the culprit got away. Sloppy work to let the person who caused the mess get away. Not that she could talk much on it. Asael was still at large, though she was hoping he had bled out. Sephiroth was generally reliable at finishing the job. If he so desired anyway. In the end, it was Cissnei’s trickery that had forced both hands, before things spiraled out of control. Ah well. [break][break] “Well, if he caused trouble once, he will come back and cause trouble again. Meaning if one doesn’t proactively seek him out, then he will make himself known again.” Cissnei shrugged. Perhaps she should look into it. Then again, no one was paying her to. Hmm. Maybe if she was bored one day and looking for trouble she would. Sticking her nose into trouble was her hobby after all. [break][break] She popped a few more fries in her mouth, before turning. She waved a dismissive hand at his compliments. “Well, I still have to find a new headquarters for it. So, doing ‘great things’ with it has been postponed for now.” She could still take requests, but without a fixed location it made it difficult for customers to find her. It seemed Caius finished his burger before Cissnei could even dent her own. She raised a brow and shook her head with a smile. “So, what will you do now? It would probably be best to rest up.” [break][break] She looked at the waiter and then back to Caius. “And don’t worry, it's my treat for sparing the time to catch up with me.” Even if he may soon be in a competitive business, it was best to keep acquaintances close.

Caius frowned at her remark about the guy who got away. "I know" he spoke curtly. He knew that. He didn't like that he had let them get away, but unfortunately it was a necessity. They couldn't spare anyone to go after the guy when there was that monster tearing through the city. Sonora may have had a strong military force, but they had no way to prepare for something like that. Something that large, moving at that speed with no warning whatsoever. Caius and Cloud had been able to fight it and prepare for it to some extent, and Caius had Vordun to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, with very little preparation needed. There wasn't much they could have done about it when there was just two of them. The only thing they could do was guarantee at least lives would be saved for now.
Not that he hadn't kicked himself for it. If he had an opportunity, he wouldn't hesitate to find the man and stop him from doing anymore harm. Though knowing Sonora's military, perhaps they had been able to identify him already using the strewn out wreckage of the mechanical monster. Perhaps he was already in jail?
"We left quite a mess. If we're lucky, Sonora's law enforcement already knows who he is since most people who would invent something of that much ambition would typically leave their trademark. I wish I'd gotten a look at it myself, but I'm surprised I'm walking right now as it is" he admitted. That thing had been tough. How Caius hadn't been cut into little itty bit sized pieces several times over, he didn't know. He supposed he should be proud, taking down something like that, even with help, was a testament to how strong he had become and his growth and development as a warrior. Could he have taken on something like that back in Lucis? He wasn't entirely sure if he could have.
He waved a hand at her remarks about having to put it off. "I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure once you get started, you'll hit the ground running. You seem the type" he encouraged. He really did hope she could pull this off. While she considered them to be competition, Caius saw her agency as another medium for people to get the help they needed. Perhaps it wasn't the most business-savvy mindset. But Caius didn't really care who helped people when things get bad, so long as somebody was.
The food and drink were finished off, and Cissnei stated it was her treat. "You're a sweetheart. Thank you" he answered warmly. Once the bill was paid and further small talk had gone by, Caius rose to his feet.
"I really do appreciate you taking me out. And your company in general, really" he brought up. "I'd best take a crack at getting to know the city. I'm sure you've got things to do as well. Let me know how things go with your agency" he then spoke, bidding her farewell as he left soon after.
