Welcome one and all to our beautiful new skin! This marks the visual era of Adventu 4.0, our 4th and by far best design we've had. 3.0 suited our needs for a very long time, but as things are evolving around the site (and all for the better thanks to all of you), it was time for a new, sleek change. The Resource Site celebrity Pharaoh Leep was the amazing mastermind behind this with minor collaborations from your resident moogle. It's one-of-a-kind and suited specifically for Adventu. Click the image for a super easy new skin guide for a visual tour!

[attr="class","acetextadventu"] One thing he loved to do was explore. It meant the possible discovery of new things, from animals to plants to locations. That, in turn, meant a treasure trove of knowledge just waiting to be opened and as a result always drove him to seek every nook and cranny in the places he’d been to - as… far as was possible at least. Back home during the war, that really wasn’t a possibility, so he resolved to at least sate his curiosity while living here.[break][break]
That saw him make an attempt to leave Torensten and head out into the big, open world. But as the fates would have it (or whatever, or whoever else controlled such a thing here), he ended up…in a spot of trouble, to say the least. Having decided to use a route he’d never travelled before, he soon wandered from the known path after an encounter with some pesky Toramas drove him from it.[break][break]
Mildly irritated but none worse for wear, he’d tried to retrace his steps. But considering he hadn’t managed to kill all those creatures and that they’d taken off in the exact same direction he wanted to go in… Ace decided to be a little cautious in the event they’d try to return and simply winged it. He knew roughly the direction to turn to if he wanted to return to Torensten anyway, so he thought it’d be fine to just get lost and see where he’d end up.[break][break]
Unfortunately, he did not think that his actions would lead him to a giant Dipevern. An angry Dipevern. In other words, a giant horse like dragon that could control aspects of the weather. Like releasing a heat wave when agitated and upset. The blast, though it didn’t physically hurt the same way as a bomb’s blast would, had him ducking away form the epicentre, trying to find some respite from the burning heat.[break][break]
The same epicentre that decided to send spikes of ice his way, then lightning bolts directly on top of his head, then teleport into his path. Yeah, this… this wasn’t going to work; the dragon wasn’t giving up. He’d have to fight. Cards once again found their mark and with a flash of light, he’d reappeared behind the stunned beast. Flicking up the top of his deck, he was glad to find that it was a green card; he’d need all the heals he could get.[break][break]
A couple more hops back, a wall casted in front of him, and then he was back on the offence, ducking away yet again after another blast from the dragon. This was going to take a while…
That had been Caius' reaction when Vordun had let out a light roar to wake him, indicating that something was below. The Fire Drake and his rider had been soaring through the air above on their way back to Torensten when Vordun had alerted Caius to the presence down below. The creature wasn't anything that Caius had seen before, but what he did know was that the blasted thing was a damned monstrosity. And that it was terrorizing some fellow who he couldn't see very well.
Caius may not have been a stranger to big, bad and hideous creatures. But when he met one he hadn't dealt with before, it was still an experience that gave him goosebumps. New things always did. This... Thing. It resembled a dragon, yet also a horse. Yet it also had no wings. At the least, they would have the advantage if they took to the air. The monster also appeared to be adept in magic, as Caius saw an explosion he attributed to likely be a fire spell, and then a blizzard spell and a lightning spell. From his height, it was hard to gauge the strength of them, or what spell they were using. Just the general gist of it.
With his scouting completed, Caius took a deep breath as he looked to Vordun, summoning Itamen, his gunblade. "Take us down, Vordun" Caius called to the fire drake, now that he had regained his bearings and had calmed down once he had been given time to scout the opponent. As Vordun would dive downward, Caius began to undo his restraints on the saddle. As Vordun flew just over the creature, Caius nodded his head toward Vordun. "Get a vantage point and attack them from outside their range" He commanded to Vordun as he jumped off the saddle. Brandishing his blade, he landed a strike on the creature's side before warping forward to gain some distance, landing on his feet as he brandished his blade, a small grin crossing his face as he seemed prepared for a fight.
Ahh, monster hunting. The easiest, most crystal clear part of his job.

[attr="class","acetextadventu"] This brought back memories; both the good and the bad kind. Memories of the border war, of ice and of fire, of many more than just that. Of the screams of the dying and the flashes of lightning and thunder. Only the scenery was different; they had fought both on sky and on ground, but in a city and not a forest. [break][break]
Like then, a fearsome roar announced the arrival of a new competitor, soon followed by a giant shadow that threw the battlefield into darkness. Mindset back into one of a battle, of a war, his heart pounded in his chest and with a flash of cards, he’s well away from the Diepvern, taking the brief respite to throw his head back and survey the skies.[break][break]
What was the situation? How many more would come to their kin’s aid? Would they be accompanied by riders or would they be lone reptiles? Could he handle the situation? He heard the blasts, his only warning to move, and barely shifted out of the way as another barrage ice came hurtling through where he’d just been.[break][break]
He’d have to deal with the flier later; for now focus on the enemy in front of him, the one he could reach easily. Ace returned fire with his own cards, falling back into the repetitive rhythm of shoot, dodge, shoot, dodge. Not the quickest way to end a battle, nor the smoothest, but he’d prefer to be stingy with his magic especially since he wasn’t sure how long his battle would last - or how many more opponents would pop up.[break][break]
Then, the shadow got larger and larger and Ace’s first instinct was to back, back, back away, as far as he could get from both monsters. But, to his surprise (and relief), instead of claws first, teeth bared, the dragon simply dived low enough for its rider to hop off before heading for the skies again, both focused on the Diepvern and not him. Allies, then? At least till the purple horse was out of the picture.[break][break]
But…. He could leave. He really could! Turn, run, and never look back. Let the stranger take care of this. Then, if the man ever wished him harm, he’d be safe. He’d have avoided a potential enemy. Would it be wise, though? What if he was just there to help? If that was the case, Ace was pretty sure Diepverns weren’t native to this world and that the stranger would need some aid.[break][break]
In the end, he opted to simply watch, if just for a little bit to get a gist of things. And as far as he could tell, the man cared not for him; so Ace figured, well what did he have to lose? (Aside from his life. But he’s lived through pretty much an eternity of live, die, live, die cycles. He could handle another death.)[break][break]
“It’ll summon a variety of weather to combat us.” He raised his voice just enough to be heard over the clash, recalling the last times the class didn’t take down one of these beasts quickly. Rain, blizzards, heatwaves… The Diepvern was quite literally a force of nature. It meant that, for the unlucky ones who weren’t prepared, sometimes what killed you wasn’t the Diepvern itself but rather the sudden changes in temperature and weather it caused.[break][break]
With his warning said, he ducked back into the fight proper, letting the man take the more up close and personal attack while he hung back and sniped from afar, casually shifting through his deck of cards until he got an acceptable hand, a hand that could Stop the Diepvern if it landed a hit. But, for now, he decided to hold it, use it later if things got worse. For now he’d rely on hitting the monster when it was vulnerable, when it revealed its weakpoints. Hitting a breakpoint would stagger it as much as a Stop would (though obviously the latter would last longer).
Dovakiin The supposed victim of the monster seemed to know a fair bit about it, though didn't seem all that adamant about fighting it. So Caius figured that wherever they were from, the monster was potentially from the same place. It wasn't anything Caius had heard of after all, and he'd done extensive research in bestiaries to the best of his abilities. So if this kid was a scholar... Well, odds are he wouldn't be fighting, seeing as he hadn't struck at the monster yet. Caius didn't know what the cards were for, so he had no reason to assume they were for battle. With that, he turned his head toward him.
"Good to know. If you aren't planning to fight, I'd suggest you get to safety" He responded calmly as he then turned back to the horse dragon thing. The monster charged forward toward Caius, and he let out a calm breath as he tossed his sword upward. The drake in the air caught the sword in his talons, allowing Caius to disappear in a burst of light and warp forward, grabbing the sword and hanging onto Vordun's talents as he allowed the sword to disappear.
"FIRA!" Caius called out as he held out a hand, and flames would launch from it and slam into the creature, exploding on impact. From here, Caius could use ranged attacks without it hurting them. The creature, despite its draconic looks, didn't seem to be able to fly.
But apparently, it didn't have to.
The monster let out a roar, and Vordun jerked to the side as a lightning strike narrowly missed the drake and his rider, hitting the ground and very quickly eviscerating the spot on contact. The storm that had whipped up above them had been so sudden that it had caught Caius and Vordun off-guard.
"We need to go down lower. It's risky, but it's still safer than staying up here" Caius told Vordun, who let out a snort as the dragon obliged. They had lost their advantage far too quickly for his tastes, but he could make do.

[attr="class","acetextadventu"] The battlefield was essentially a mix of lights as both stranger and boy dodged about the area. Having opted to take a more passive stance this fight, Ace hadn’t really attacked much than the occasional ice-spell. That was, at least, until the Diepvern struck out at the dragon-rider pair. Having stood on its hind legs as it cast out its attack, Ace saw the perfect time- and sent out his drawn cards.[break][break]
Red slammed into purple and, praise…well, whatever, the damn thing froze. No, not in shock, nor in fear, Ace had landed his hit and essentially casted a Long Stop on the beast, freezing it in time. No longer needing to watch for a counterattack, at least until it started to move again (and he’d have a minute or so, tops) Ace let loose another barrage of cards at the monster, blue craving into skin and then disappearing back into his deck.[break][break]
Quickly, in between hits, he drew cards over and over, and ended up not with any attack hand but with a decent enough heal; his luck held out and it’d be a Mega HP charge for the party, i.e. he and the stranger…and his dragon. Just in case anything happened, at least he had something to fall back on; he couldn’t be sure the man knew any support spells after all.[break][break]
Another cast of Wall (and now he’s running lower on magic than he’d like, he’d need to conserve, conserve, conserve) and he’s preparing his next attack, a set of three cards floating before him, a triangle floating in the air. Hands forwards, concentrating, power pulsing through fingers to the air, a hum then the laser flares bright white and forward, an unrelenting beam towards the beast’s exposed belly.[break][break]
It doesn’t last though. It’s one of Ace’s stronger attacks but it’s still not something he can hold for long. At least, it’s not something he wants to hold for long when the beast is close to returning to normal. If it teleports while he’s blasting it, if it moves towards him, attacks him or such, he wouldn’t have much time to move out of the way. So he ends the attack early, teleporting backwards yet again in another flurry of cards.
The kid didn't heed Caius' warning, but there wasn't much he could do except try and down this thing faster. The creature struck out at Caius and Vordun, one at a time. Caius warped forward, and Vordun responded by diving downward, reuniting the two and dodging the attack in the process. But before they could counterattack... The creature suddenly stopped.
It stopped entirely. Frozen. Unmoving whatsoever. It was as though it had been paused. Caius had climbed onto Vordun's back in order to prepare for the next attack when the thing had stopped, and he couldn't help but gape at its condition. Looking back, he saw the one who was clearly responsible -- the kid. Quirking a brow, he watched as they continued to use their cards. Cards flew and dug into the monster, and Caius wondered just what he was doing. Cards didn't hurt, normally, did they? Gave you a bad papercut maybe, but sink right into the skin? There was magic involved, that was clear. Magic that Caius wasn't familiar with. He knew Stop when he saw it, Celes had used it before back in that one spooky house. And had seen it used against a human being when the Lich used it against Rem.
And then newbie fired some kind of laser, and Caius knew that he needed to act fast. "Vordun!" Caius called to the dragon, who unleashed a torrent of flames on the beast, unrelenting as he continued to launch this flamethrower. Caius meanwhile, held out a hand from atop Vordun's back.
"FIRA!"
More fire was launched at the creature, and Caius didn't stop there. He launched another Fira, and another and another as he hoped to down the creature before it could begin moving again and counterattack. But firing Fira this often, well... He was no Celes. He would go into Stasis very soon if he kept it up.
