[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]Yeul stood out among the others that had gathered like violet flower in a yellow field. The Seeress, placid and dainty, maintained her footing in the spot she’d been standing in since her arrival to the marsh. True, there was the fact that she was forced to move time to time due to the mud slowly swallowing her ankles into the ground, but such trivial steps were not even acknowledged by her company.
No, those who the little Seeress was beside were too busy on their weapons and battle strategies to notice any of her. None of their eyes even fell down to her level, and if they did, it was to watch where they were positioning their feet to try and avoid getting sucked down. Once, one with a large tattoo on his chest rammed into Yeul’s side, nearly toppling her. Chastising her instead of apologizing, he warned her to head back home before ignoring her completely.
Yeul, however, silently rebelled. Seeing those weapons sharpened, feeling the uneasy air hit her skin and bring about goosebumps, witnessing for herself just how ruthless these hunters were: all it did was push her resolve and coax her to stay even more.
The Seeress first heard about the hunting party a few days ago. Crossing a dirt road, whispers of the “extermination” of the dragon drifted into her ears. The next day, while scavenging for information on the whereabouts of her beloved Guardian, two midwives loudly exclaimed their fear of losing their husbands to “That damn dragon exhibition”. And then, that very morning, a rugged man in a silver chest guard plastered a crude poster to the wall beside her make-shift sleeping arrangements.
Following the instructions of the poster, Yeul found herself in a tavern, listening to the hunters’ discussion and absent-mindedly sketching faces onto her complimentary mug with a dirty fingernail. This party had gathered together to move a massive sleeping dragon that had made its home beside the city, spreading discomfort among residents, many being, apparently, the hunters’ wives. Without even talking about a sound strategy, they chugged the rest of their drinks (Yeul had attempted to drink the contents of her mug, but the Seeress’s inexperienced tongue found the hard liquid undrinkable) and left for the marsh.
The sun high and the bugs endless, Yeul trailed behind the rest of them, her face covered in sweat and her eyes dry. They noticed her, she was sure of it, but none made an effort to persuade her to leave. Accepting her good luck, she kept her mouth closed, only expelling a grunt or two when the terrain became especially hellish.
They were at their destination, but at a stand-still. No one could say anything without another butting heads with them. Constant, loud bickering was all this team seemed to be professionally skilled in. Thankfully, the giant did not react to any of this noise. Instead, the giant blue dragon stayed asleep, the only sing of life in him the occasional twitch in his muscles.
Yeul studied the dragon, zoning out the arguments nearby. He was a mighty thing: scars adorned his back, red painted his teeth, and there were many missing scales on his back. Large puffs of smoke left his nostrils with each huff of breath, and his wings were scrunched close to his body.
There was no way she was letting them kill him in cold blood.
So, as the hunters argued, none of them saw their little stowaway pass by them. Her hair, flowing behind her, spread around her little frame. Yeul’s hands were clasped together, as if offering a prayer, as she approached the giant blue dragon. It wasn’t until she was right in front of the monster’s chin that anyone seemed to notice. Gently, almost as if being forced to, Yeul slowly unclasped her hands and extended one out to touch the dragon’s scales. His body was so warm, Yeul quickly realized that she’d suffer burns if she kept her hand lingering upon him longer.
“Greetings.” She softly spoke, “I am Yeul. I will not hurt you, but I cannot promise they will not…”

Mercenary work was what the ironically named Caius did. It had been all he knew how to do besides fight as a member of the Kingsglaive, and being part of the Glaive was something that he could no longer do. Not that the borrowed power of kings had left him or anything... Which was actually something that rather surprised him considering how far away he must be by now from King Noctis Lucis Caelum. Was a member of the line of Kings in this land somewhere, or did the Kingsglaive's powers not fade away with distance? It was a question that he had asked himself many times, and he had taken measures to learn to fight without the use of his Glaive abilities just in case the worst came but... It never did seem to come. Instead, he simply got stronger, and his powers became stronger with him.
But were they enough to face down a dragon?
When he'd seen the poorly slapped on posters about "moving" a dragon, Caius knew what they would be signing up for and that was most likely a battle, flat out, no qualms about it. But if it came to a fight, it was better that with his ability, he would be there to ensure that it did not destroy the nearby civilization. So Caius had walked with this group of hunters, blending into the crowd with a sense of stoicity. He did not like their rather... Rough, and almost honorless nature, with the way they looked, and dressed, and acted... He had been a hunter, a long time ago. These were not the types of hunters he had grown up around. There was no honor in the way they acted, they only seemed to be interested in bloodshed and profit. Sure, he was a mercenary but... They didn't seem the types that would care if one were deserving of a sword in their breast or not.
They came upon the dragon, and it was large... But beautiful. But most importantly, it slept soundly. It almost seemed... Gentle. Like it wouldn't harm anyone if they just left it be. But having a creature of this magnitude this close to civilization was dangerous. If there were a way to gently move it... Unfortunately, the bickering nearby that began to erupt indicated that the hunters had different ideas of how to deal with it, and Caius felt himself becoming sick at the sound of it. The giant had not been said to have caused any harm, only fallen asleep here. And seeing it's seemingly gentle nature up close, he couldn't bring himself to kill it unless he had no choice.
Ignis' attention turned to the hunters around him as he began to consider his chances if he tried to stand in their way of killing the beast. He may be losing out on a very nice payday, but... There was more to life than funds, he'd come to learn that. He'd learned that when he'd joined the Glaives, just two years ago. But he wasn't sure if he'd be able to take on a group of them, of this number... But it was good to at least begin reviewing potential strategies.
His attention was taken by the fact that a young woman with blue hair had snuck past the hunters, and was now at about the dragon's chin. His eyes widened as he would begin to make his way toward her, concerned for her safety. One of the hunters would let out a growl and draw his sword as he began to make his way toward them, but Caius would stop, and the look that he gave them as his sword, Lonoaw, would suddenly appear in his hand as if from thin air and was immediately at the man's throat. He stared at him with a gaze icy cold before the hunter would sheathe his blade. Lonoaw would disappear soon after, as Caius would stop behind Yeul.
"I feel as though he's gentle... What do you think?" He would question toward her, his tone soft.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]Yeul’s green eyes fell towards the man who’d spoken. She was exceptionally short compared to the mercenary, having to take a step back to properly look into his eyes. He had spoken quietly to her, a stark contrast from the aggressive arguments of the other gathered men. His brown eyes seemed gentle as well, at least she felt so as she gazed at him.
A stilted nod of shyness was her first reply to him. The Seeress clasped her hands behind her back and talked to the gentle mercenary in an unwavering yet quiet tone. “…I believe all he wants is to rest.” She concluded after a pause, during which time she studied the rise and fall of the massive dragon’s chest. “Getting woken up by the sting of steel blades is probably the exact opposite of what it would want.”
The blue dragon was just lying there, content with its life of immobilization. The Seeress understood the concern of the townspeople nearby; with the recent attack she was surprised no vengeful widow or daring, brave hero had attempted to slay the blue dragon before. The dragon attack had affected her as well. In all the confusion, she had lost the healer camp she’d been staying at since Caius had left her there. By the time the dragons had dissipated and the youth had found her way back, there was nary a ruin left to scavenge through.
“I’ve barely any doubt they’ll murder the Blue Dragon once they’re done deciding just how to do so.” Yeul spoke to the blonde mercenary, looking back and forth to the dragon and the man. “Perhaps we should discuss our own plan to save him, if that’s all right with you.”
She turned her entire frame towards him, her hair falling to the one side of her shoulder as she did. “I am Paddra Nsu-Yeul. I hope we can save this dragon together...”
As she spoke, a select few hunters had gathered to the sides of the two, each with different weapons. Each took their turn prodding the scales of the beast, looking to see if one weapon or another would be more effective. The sleeping giant did not react to the meager pokes the men made to him.

Brimming brown eyes met a brilliant green, and he would smile warmly as they met with a gentle expression. The girl was gentle, he could see that. He could see it in her face, he could see it in her eyes. She wouldn't harm the creature if she didn't have to, and she may not even then. Perhaps someone would lean down a bit to meet her eyes upon noticing the height difference, but he saw that to acknowledge the height difference in such a brazen way would be a sign of disrespect. Instead, he noted her moving back a bit, a more subtle, practical method that just served for practicality and practicality alone.
"It seems it" He spoke softly as the woman would explain that the dragon simply just wanted to rest, it didn't seem to want to cause any harm and likely wouldn't unless disturbed. "It's best that we figure out how to move it before this lot angers it. Or we could try and get the lot to leave first, and then handle the dragon. Either works, really.
Though considering how eager they are to poke at it..." He pointed out as he noticed some of them starting to poke at it with pointy things. "... I might not be opposed to just letting the dragon torch them and flying away. But it might cause damage to civilization around, and we can't have that. "
That was a joke, he wouldn't legitimately leave them to the dragon's mercy unless they were being even more unnecessarily cruel than they already were.
The woman would turn and introduce herself as...
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Psanda... Paddra Nasan-Yeu... Paddra Ns-.... Yeul. It's a pleasure to meet you, Yeul" He would greet, hoping she wouldn't mind that he had decided to go with a short name. He held out a hand then.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]Yeul tilted her head and gave the mercenary a quick, small smile as he struggled with her name. Though his humor with his prior statement had failed to hit its mark to the young Seeress, his mispronunciations had amused her.
“Likewise.” She responded, “an-“
“Caius.”
Caius.
Yeul’s breathing suddenly stopped, as if someone had violently kicked her stomach. Her eyes were still on the man who called himself Caius, but they were looking far off. Far off through the tides of fate, off towards a bountiful field of flowers, where a figure stood with his back to her. He went to face her, but before Yeul could see his features, a scalding pain in her hand returned her to Zephon.
“Ah…!” An underwhelming yelp escaped her lips as Yeul drew her left hand close to her chest. She had apparently reached out for something to lean upon, and the nearest thing just so happened to be the blue dragon. The Seeress’s palm was a stark red, and in an attempt to lessen the gnawing pain she beat it against her skirt.
Her green eyes readjusted their focus on him, and cold droplets of sweat began to form on her forehead despite the humidity of the swamp. “I’m sorry; must've tripped...” She curtly said, her voice dry but calm. Regaining her composure, the blue-haired girl stared deeply into his eyes, not aware just how odd it might’ve been for the mercenary.
Her Caius was slipping from her memory. From the minute he disappeared from her sight her memories of him began to deteriorate. Without a definite image of him anymore, she could pass by him without even noticing. So…could it be that this man was possibly her lost Guardian?
“If I may, Caius…” She began to question, her demeanor back to that of the usual emotionless-look. Yeul hesitated as she tried to think up an appropriate question, one that wouldn’t be too vague but at the same time not too specific. After all, there was always the possibility he knew exactly who she was and how to somehow trigger her visions of the future. Caius was her Guardian for a reason, after all…
However, before she got the words out, the blue dragon began to move. What Yeul believed it was doing was simply readjusting one of its legs, but the men who’d been prodding it had a very different idea as to what it was doing. Immediately they began to yell some kind of shoddy attack cry and burying their spears in the small openings between its scales.
“No!” Yeul turned away from the man called Caius and sandwiched herself between the men’s spears and the dragon’s burning hot body. “Please consider the fact the dragon could easily become hostile with your provocations…! It would be much safer if we attempted to move it through peaceful efforts instead…!”

"Yeul?"
His breath had hitched when she seemed to be in pain. When she seemed about to fall over, his gentle eyes turned to those of great worry and panic as he would rush forward.
"Yeul!"
He wasn't able to grab her quickly enough, it had been far too sudden. Her hand had touched the surface of the dragon just as Caius would manage to take her arms, pulling her back and then wrapping his arms around her torso to pull her in close to his chest. His breath had become heavy and it was clear that his heart had skipped a beat or two when she had touched the beast, which would explain why he clutched her so close as if he feared that it would wake and bring her harm. A by-nature gentle beast or not... A beast that misunderstood generally became a dangerous foe within moments. He heard her say something about tripping, but it wasn't wholly registering in that moment as he would try to calm himself down. Anybody would be tense with a beast this dangerous in the vicinity, asleep or not.
He didn't catch her staring at him, he didn't seem to calm until he saw that the dragon would remain calm. With that, the mercenary would let out a deep exhale, before looking down toward her again. She had decided to ask him a question, and he would blink a few times but nod his head as if to indicate he were listening as he would realize he still hadn't let go of her. Gently releasing her and backing up to give her some space, he would listen to what she had to say. Or at least, he was going to, before the dragon would move and catch his attention. But it also caught the attention of the other mercenaries, who would begin aiming for weak spots and attacking. Yeul had cried out and had then thrown herself between the spears and the dragon. As a spear accidentally aimed toward her head, Caius would draw his blade and strike it back, causing the mercenary to back up as Caius would toss Lonoaw in a straight arrow toward their skull. He would disappear, warping and catching the blade and holding it pointed toward his head.
"That's enough" Caius would growl. The usually gentle mercenary was far from happy now that Yeul had nearly been harmed. He looked then toward the others, attention likely caught by his little warping trick. "I am not a killing man, but it only takes me two seconds. Attack the dragon or attack me, if you wish... While you may eventually slay me in numbers, you will never bring back those of you that I have gutted in the meantime. And trust me when I say that I will have gutted a great deal of you before you put me down. I suggest a peaceful method of moving the dragon. Now."
Caius had no intentions of doing anyone harm if he could help it. Only if they forced his hand.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]The little Seeress was…thoroughly confused.
Confused from the pain on her burnt palm, confused by the violent nature of the mercenaries, and confused by the tight embrace she was currently enfolded in. His breathing had suddenly become staggered, as she felt the uneven, deep breaths he was taking.
Thoughts overtook her head; she felt like a small, struggling sprout in a mess of weeds, trying desperately to reach out for the stolen sunlight. Is this my Caius? What is he doing? My hand hurts. The dragon will stir at this rate.
And indeed, the dragon did stir. Rushing between the men’s spears and the dragon’s scalding scales was a brash and stupid decision, but it was only now she truly realized that. Her usual calm and composed demeanor had been temporarily shattered by the tingling of her hand and the thumping of her head. It returned a mere second later, though in that blinded second she acted out and was now between a sword and a flaming place.
The mercenaries stared at her, obviously annoyed. They had ignored her meager presence before as she kept to herself, out of the way. Now, though, they looked like they’d had more than enough of her.
But then there was a sudden flash of light, and then there was Caius. Blade in hand, he pointed the steel at the man whose spear tip was the closest to her head. “That’s enough.” Caius told the staring men. Some of them had lowered their weapons as their focus shifted, and the Seeress was able to calmly exhale.
Caius firmly told the gathered men that there was only one way the group was going to go about moving the dragon: peacefully. The Seeress felt the dragons’ heat radiate off its scales and onto her back she listened to him. However, despite this heat, Yeul was comfortable where she was.
Her green eyes studied Caius as he bravely faced the mercenary group. He was actively putting himself at risk for her, something that could certainly associate with being a Guardian…
“What would this peaceful method be, you two?” Asked one of the mercs, an annoyed gaze set on Yeul.
Yeul clasped her hands together, putting her wounded palm closer to her heart. “Ah, that is to say…” She paused and angled her eyebrows, attempting to articulate a plan. “The dragon is much bigger than I anticipated and guiding it by touch is out of the question.”
The Seeress turned to the dragon, its massive scales meeting her. “Perhaps if we make this place undesirable for slumber, it’ll try to simply move away…”
“What would this peaceful method be, you two?” One of the mercenaries, annoyed would demand. Caius wasn't overtly sure at first. He knew he wanted a peaceful solution just as much as Yeul did... But it was going to take some thinking to get this dragon to leave without violence. Caius took a deep breath, deep in thought as he wracked his brain in hopes of a solution... What could they do? What could they do to ensure that this didn't end in death and fire?
He looked toward Yeul then, silently asking with his expression for her ideas and guidance. He was a fighting man, himself. But Yeul didn't seem to be. Odds were, her perspective would be far more important.
“The dragon is much bigger than I anticipated and guiding it by touch is out of the question. Perhaps if we make this place undesirable for slumber, it’ll try to simply move away…”
"Hmmm..." Caius would muse aloud as he stroked his beard, pondering the idea. "It could work. The question then is how do we make it inhospitable without making it angry? We can't use any violent means, obviously, it'll just attack and then there'll be casualties and all our efforts will have been for nothing..."
Curious, the former Glaive would hold a hand down toward the ground nearby. Not too close to the dragon but not too far. "Blizzard" He would whisper, knowing that many, many eyes were on the Glaive as ice would begin to form from the ground, beginning to spread throughout. The longer he held the spell, the more ice spread around.
"Perhaps if the area is too cold for it to be comfortable, it'll simply get up and walk away. Yeul, can you perform any magic?" Caius would inquire. "These brutes don't look like they know a lick of it. I don't know if I can create enough ice to make it cold enough on my own. I need your help, if there's any way you know. If not, do you have any ideas?"
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]Although her face wouldn’t have indicated it, Yeul was very invested in this Caius’ attempts at forming a plan. This Caius could be that Caius. The only problem was that Caius was no more than a misshapen blur in her head. As the man beside her muttered aloud his ideas, Yeul clasped her hands behind her back in thought.
I shall question him when all this is over, she discussed in her head, I presumed I’d know him the second I’d see him, but perhaps such a thought was naive.
A sudden chill up her spine broke the Seeress’ stream of consciousness. The humid, thick air became thin and caused her to upper body to shutter. “What is-”
A quiet exhale was what Yeul finished her question with as her green eyes fell upon the gathering conglomerate of ice. So the man knew magic. That was certainly Guardian-like.
“Yeul, can you perform any magic?” Caius asked her. His spell had cast an impressive amount of ice, but it was far too little to stir even the smallest reaction from the dragon.
Unfortunately, Yeul shook her head. “I was blessed with foresight; that is the extent of my magical abilities.” she regretfully informed him, “I was in training for healing magic for a period, but such magic would not be beneficial here…”
“If not, do you have any ideas?”
The edges of her eyebrows momentarily furrowed as she brainstormed. The ice covered the marsh around them, freezing the life under it. Certain areas of the ice, Yeul noticed, appeared thicker than others. Arms slightly away from her body for balance, Yeul made her way towards one of the chucks of ice. Despite her limited strength, the Seeress managed to pry it away from the ground by digging her nails deep and using leverage to her advantage.
Wordlessly, she walked up to one of the mercenaries, cradling the ice as if it was a child. The Seeress, whose eyes didn’t even meet the burly man’s chest, locked eyes with the man, who appeared between concerned and startled.
“Hold this.” She ordered him, presenting the block to him. He replied with a confused but obeying grunt, dropping his iron axe and taking the ice. “Do not keep It close to your body, instead hold it as far as your arms can reach, and keep your fingers far from the front. Like so…”
Yeul demonstrated the action to the merc, who mirrored her. “Now, attempt to touch the dragon’s scales with the ice.”
Casting a glance at the fellow gathered men (who just stared blankly back), the chosen man did as he was told to, making sure to keep his body as far from the giant beast as possible. Upon the touch, steam released and sizzling buzzed through the air. The dragon itself did not stir.
With a satisfied nod, Yeul returned her attention to Caius. “Please continue to cover the ground for as long as you can, Caius. Everyone should take the chunks that sprout out and do as that man did.”
“Hey, kid,” Rose the voice of one of the mercenaries, “Since when do you give us orders?”
Yeul brought one of her still-chilled hands to her chin and lowered her eyes. She pondered an answer for a moment before responding matter-of-factly. “I am sorry, it just seems to come naturally to me, akin to muscle memory. Though I’m not completely sure with my lapse in memory, I believe I gave orders to my Guardian. He is similar to all of you, though much stronger, no doubt.”
The Seeress was unaware of the mutters that rippled through the group of men as she turned her back towards them to focus on clawing the next clump of ice free. She had more pressing matters to attend to.
“I was blessed with foresight; that is the extent of my magical abilities."
Caius would nod his head in response. He had hoped, as she seemed to possess some level of magic, that she would know a bit of offensive magic. But it was not to be, and that was fine. He would figure out a way. Though he had prepared for this possibility too, evidenced by him asking Yeul about if she had any other ideas. He watched then, as she would rip a chunk of ice from it's surface and hand it to one of the mercenaries. She would command them, ask them to touch it's scales with them. Of course, one of them took exception to this, and while Yeul gave her explanation... The mutters amongst them gave Caius pause as he let out a sigh and stood to his full height, facing them.
"Alright" He spoke, eyes scanning between each and every single one of the men. it appeared they didn't truly understand the situation here. "Let's be honest here... Do any of you actually think that you're capable of defeating a dragon?"
Caius let that question hang for a few moments before continuing. His tone was soft, yet cold as his eyes pierced through each and every single one of them with an icy glare.
"Because I've done it... But only with help far more powerful than you lot. Which means? This thing wakes up... We all die. This girl, she thinks she's got a solution... Follow it if you want to live. It's as simple as that."
Caius hoped that would settle things, as he would turn and begin firing more ice as he had devised before. Hopefully if this kept up, the dragon would just move... But he kept an eye on the mercenaries from here on. He had made it very clear what would happen if they failed, but he still didn't trust them one bit.
He was also curious about who this "Guardian" of hers was. Why wasn't he here?
