I'm not an army of one
Serah giggled as the dragon sniffed her and gave its affection to her. She enjoyed it. It seemed the dragon could be playful, or at least appreciated getting aide. Caius had clearly raised the dragon well, she could tell. She still regretted how she treated the man when she had assumed what his identity was but… he seemed to be past it, to the point of even inviting her into her group. She was happy to help of course, so long as it didn’t interfere with her priorities regarding her sisters. When it came to Caius he wasn’t as forthcoming when it came to accepting Serah’s magic, for long anyway. A glare to rival Lighting’s was given to her as he grabbed her hand to stop her, causing Serah to frown as she shook her head. He insisted she had done enough, that was exhausted. Well, maybe a little… just a bit… but she wanted to help. Caius to her had expanded more and, thus she wanted to use what she had left to help him recover.
The truth was that she likely would have tried even if she saw that the other way, it was just the kind of woman she was. She gave a smile, ready to insist this to him, that she was perfectly fine!
”No really Caius I’m fine, really I can do plenty more just sit back and let me..”
She frowned once more, a bit of a pout on her face as he gave a soft ‘please’ Serah had to relent with that. More so with his continued concern about her. She gave a sigh, moving her hand from him and crossing them over her chest. She wanted to help but… he was right. She had given mostall of what she could give energy wise right now. She still wanted to help but… she’d stop, she needed to of course… she’d have pushed herself, but Caius clearly wasn’t going to let that happen. The thought caused a smile to cross her face, a light one at the people that reminded her of. Caius was a kind man, that she knew for sure.
”Ok Caius… i’ll stop, but.. You better make sure you do! I’ll come straight up into the guild and make you if you don’t, I promise~”
She giggled, well, she did but there was a certain degree of seriousness to that laugh and her expression. She was being playful, yes but.. There was also a certain feeling perhaps of ‘she'd absolutely do that wouldn't she?’ That said their conversation continued to the subject of her helping that group. He seemed confident she could help, so… she would, yes. Besides maybe this would help with some of that getting out like her older(?) sister kept saying she should. Serah grinned.
”Of course I can! Wish I could say ‘have you seen my little sis’ but… its more like I got it from her before, well… future her… wow, I know what's going on and it's still confusing haha! Point is, of course I will Caius. I may not be able to devote all my time… but when I’m helping I guarantee you’ll have my all! Still have to repay you for all you’ve helped Claire to”
When thanked for her help Serah smiled lightly, It was the right thing to do to her. She saw the destruction untapped creatures like that could cause, the pain it could bring to anyway when something just threw it around like that… She didn’t want people to go through that, in any age, in any place.
”If I can stop people from having to hurt.. Whether it’s on the inside or the outside, I’m going to. It’s as simple as that you know? People deserve to live happy lives, I don’t want them to worry if today was their last day. Besides, maybe this will get me more popular back in the school huh? Maybe I’ll finally shake their nickname haha!”
Serah nodded as Caius said she should go back ahead of him while he handled skinning the beast. She was still unsure how one could sit there and stare at a monster as you skinned it. She had nothing against if of course, more so with this being a creature that threatened people's livelihoods. But wasn’t it well… yuck? Yucky? Well, maybe it was a boy thing?
……..No, Fang would probably do this to, while she was pretty certain you couldn't get Hope anywhere near it. sigh… well it would all go to good use, that was what mattered!
”Right, take care of yourself Caius. I’ll be there when you need me”
Serah began walking off, back to her home for real this time. She had no intention of using Bennu for it, her chocobo friend had done plenty already. It would take her a bit longer to get home sure but well, for that she could only hpe and trust in her sister not to turn the town upside down in her short absence!
Still, she stopped a little ways off from her walking, still within hearing distance for Caius and grinned playfully. Well there was one thing more.
”Maybe my little sister is right though, you definitely deserve to have someone in your life and in your heart Caius, I might have to help her with that~”
Oh no…
Well that was a teasing tone so Serah was joking.
Right…?
And there she went off in the distance.
Spoiler Alert, there was a ninety percent chance Claire had,in fact, done something in her absence~

I'm not an army of one
Serah gave a ‘hmph!’ at Caius’ implication, crossing her arms. He was underestimating his own abilities clearly, if he thought she did THAT much. She had tried her gambit of course, she wouldn't deny it did damage, but the beast was still charging thereafter! It was clear therefore, that Caius had been the MVP here, No doubt in her mind in fact! He and his partner had sacked the creature, With some minor aid from her of course!
”I fired some arrows and it kept charging! You and him…”
She gave gentle smile the dragon’s way, nodding her head.
”Deserve the credit here, I mean did you see yourself? You were like.. ZOOM, and then, ZAM! And lot of WHOOSH to! All over the place, I could never do something like that, it’s amazing, really”
She lopped on the praise, because she really did feel Caius deserved it. Behemoths were no casual foe, it was worth celebrating when you beat one due to just how tough they were. This was even more true of the toughest of them, able to cause destruction like what this one had. Destruction that they, thankfully were able to lessen. Serah herself took a breath as she tried to relax, glad she had been able to help her friend regardless. Between them both they were able to ensure people could get away, and fell the nasty beast.
”I’m not sure what’s more fear-inducing fighting them, or trying to sneak past the things in the dark”
Now THAT had been a frightful ordeal! But one she and Noel managed none the less. That said, she was not in any hurry to do it again, Whether she could handle the accompanying fight or not. She had to smile as Caius gave his own compliments however. He was right, she had learned a lot on her journey. As hard as it was… as painful as it was. She wouldn't want to undo the things she had been through. The scars of the past after all, had led to the happy future she had found herself in. And… yes, even where she was now, With her sisters carving out their life in this world.
”Yeah… I’ve learned a lot from my sisters… and all of my friends. I don’t know where I'd be without them!”
Caius refused her aide for himself, Under normal circumstances she’d have insisted upon it but… he cared for his partner, that was likely the driving force. So she’d do as he asked, but she’d be keeping a close eye on him as well to ensure he really would be fine. That wouldn't stop her however, from looking the dragon’s way with a grin, quip at the ready.
”Stubborn, isn’t he?”
She giggled, before gently moving towards Vordun, gently as well, she didn’t know what the dragon did and didn't understand. It was clearly smart but… there was no need causing undue stress was there? So approaching slowly, once he did know as such she would begin working her magic.
”Not enough for a huge spell.. Thankfully not needed here… I should have just the thing to patch this up.. Stay still for me ok? This should only feel a little weird~”
Switching to Medic Abilities, Serah would weave her Cura Spell, focusing it on Vordun’s gained wounds as she walked around him, ensuring she didn’t miss anything, the magic of course would have worked through him regardless, but Serah was the type that wanted to make sure for herself that everything healed up fine, just like it was supposed to. Once it had she gave a deep breath of her own, Stepping back she then gave a light smile back a the dragon.
”There, all better”
Vordun was now healed, know what that meant? Serah did. Still facing the dragon she gained a knowing smile she lightly poked her head towards Caius, as if saying ‘him to right?’ Whether it was acknowledged or not Serah still faced Caius. The familiar tenge of light once more came to Serah’s hands as she smiled teasingly at Caius.
”Stubborn students really should just accept the teachers help you know~”
Then without another word Serah would begin to weave her magic once more, more tiring this time as she really was now exhausting her energy now between this and the arrows earlier. As she looked the man over he made a surprising statement, at least to her. Serah, despite her abilities didn’t consider herself a warrior, or a mercenary. She’d of course do what she needed to do, but she generally was not outside that. On the other hand she absolutely loved adventure, learning and seeing knew things. Something she hadn’t been able to allow herself to focus on since coming here. Of course she also liked helping people. She chuckled, playfully raising her eyebrow.
”Additude? You’d want someone in the Dragonblades whose first words were set on trying to strike you down in for her sister?”
Despite this, between Caius’ thoughts on the matter and the discussion she had already had with her sister, she couldn't help but find it appealing…
”I can make time, I think… Of course my sisters and job come first but… if thats ok… it sounds rather fun… we should definitely talk about it”
She chuckled at the dragon’s antics in the between, noting when Caius decided to skin the behemoth. That made sense, she was no expert of course but her time with Noel had taught her that there was value in those things, him and the hunting tribe they had run into. Serah took her own seat, letting Caius go about his business. She’d have offered to help but… well, she both wasn’t into skinning things, and wasn’t an expert in it as Noel, and presumably Caius were.
”That makes sense… No sense in letting it go to waste ether right? If you can use it for better. Well this has been… an exciting day hasn’t it? I was expecting to go home to Claire and Lumina, and whatever chaos my little sister might be causing but… I’m glad I could help, that we could help people”
She could still fight, this was true, but so soon her attack her movements were slowed, more sluggish. And a beast cornered was more dangerous than anything. It barreled towards her and she flinched, thoughts ran through her. Had she gotten the timing wrong? Lighting wouldn't have. Would it have been better to do it sooner, or later? From where she was, or should she have moved to his back? Should she have tried a combined assault with Caius?
Lighting wouldn't have made that mistake, or wouldn't have questioned it. She would keep moving forward, keep pushing to the end. Until the threat was gone and everyone was safe
Kind of like what Caius was doing now.
Yes it was a dazzling sight to behold for her, the way he and his partner pushed back against the beast, blades surged with magic as they tore at the creature held back by a Dragon’s strength. She could only watch as things continued, a combative dance one could say. Of Caius and his partner pushing the beast back, then cutting it down. As painful flames surged within it. As they teleported around it. Serah was every bit impressed by Caius and his dragonic ally as they tore into the. As clear as it was that he was burning through his resources… so to was it clear that the Behemoth was on its last legs, the pinkette smiled. So as a weakened Caius landed on his dragon’s back, the also weakened Serrah would call out a cheer to help spur him on.
”Take it down!”
And so he did, with one last coordinated strike the beast went down, finally. The pair came down then as exhausted as he was, however he asked first how she was doing, it made her smile, her own exhaustion showing.
”Shouldn't I be asking you that Mr overachiever? Jeez… those things are just as rough here as they were back home”
She picked up Rocket’s crystal, placing it safely in her pocket, noting to thank it later along with the other for all they had done for her here. She then sat against a smooth, only slightly charred stump and chuckled.
”You were so fast.. Oh, I’m fine by the way, just winded, that spell takes a bit out of me is all. Though… really, I can see why you lead a mercenary group like you do now,no mistaking that aura, even less so in combat!”
She frowned, taking note once more of Caius’ condition.
”If you both need it though… I’m sure i can work out some healing magic to ease things for you both”
That was Serah, ever thinking of others before herself, to her Caius was in far worst condition, along with his partner.

I'm not an army of one
There, and again. She knew Lumina didn’t mean to bring it up, but the memories were still painful to her. It was a time, such a long time that she wasn’t able to help Snow. That he had to be alone, guilty of what he felt he had been unable to do. The memory made her rub her arm sadly, though she didn’t bring it up.Still, Despite Lumina’s messing with him she did care, even if she had her…. Unique ways of going about it. Besides, Lumina’s choice of room size had reassured her, it was like a poke of support for his eventual coming. That they would find their way to each other, like they always did.
”He’s always cared you know, I know he comes off as show offy at times, but… I don’t call him a hero.. For no reason, watching him all that time… I’m sure you saw it right? I’d say he’s done more than ‘shape up’ sis~””
She gave a playful wink, of course given her state at the time she had little more than a hazy version of Lumina’s, and perhaps that was a little more deep than Lumina’s teasing might have warranted. But it was something she believed. Lighting was a Savior, Snow was a Hero. They had both done a lot for the world. They both deserved a second chance, they both deserved to be able to live their lives free of the the past. The most important people in her heart were those three. Perhaps she was a little bias in thinking they deserved it most, but then, that was her right as a fiance and sister right?
….that said, she would personally smack a god if it decided to repeat what happened with Claire with Snow. Dealing with a sixteen year old Snow would be [way to awkward!
When it came to Lumina’s observation Serah gave a firm nod. This was what she wanted, for Claire to be able to live her life freely, to just be her. She wanted her to enjoy the air, to enjoy the wild life (within reason, looking at you, Bombs) every sight, every smell, without having to worry about anything. Without having to worry about her, Still, despite this she frowned.
”Is this how mom would have handled it you think? Am I doing what I should? Handling things how I should? I can’t help but wonder.. You know? Am I someone she’ll rely on… if i’m too harsh will she hide things from me?”
If Lumina hadn’t grasped the gravity of what she mean’t, she likely would as Serah rubbed her arm nervously, namely the spot a certain mark used to be.
”Important things…. Am I…. a proper big sister?”
Unfortunately for Lumina, but fourntly for Serah, her ‘little big sister’ had given her an out, that was, her own chance to tease Lumina. To which she happily gave a smile to do so.
”Oh? But Claire, aren’t you the one that said Hope is the type of guy Claire would go for?”
Oh yeah, her grin was massive, the smugness perhaps the top of what Serah could radiate. She couldn't help herself in doing so. And she wasn’t done.
”Listen for a girl your age it’s perfectly natural to start taking interest in boys that way. Why when i was your age…”
A playful arm to her forehead, and a mock sigh escaped her lips, oh yes, perfect. But their was a more serious side to this conversation to.
”I can’t tell you what to do sis, I… can only give my thoughts. If you don’t see him that way though, the best thing to do would be to tell him right? He deserves to know, even if it causes him some hurt. It’s one thing to indulge how you feel, it’s another to lead someone on so you can keep feeling that way, so… how do you feel? As or your age….”
Another playful moment, Serah crossed her arms behind the Blazefire saber at her back, smiling warmly, yet playfully.
”You don’t look a day over five hundred!”
When the subject came to those centuries together, Serah couldn't help but smile warmly at her sister’s word. They had been through a lot together, even if it might not seem like that to the perspective of most. Serah liked to think they influenced each other during that time, they certainly did now.
”It may be the one thing an ignorant god did right. Putting us together.. Though, i should clarify, sis, I’m not five hundred years plus ether, you see, I was a spirit that whole time, so how could I age you know?”
The warm smile maintained, she tilted her head and grin
”Great huh…? By that reaction… that sounds an awful lot like your enjoying it deeper, very well, Clarity it is~”
Her sister’s reactions were fun to see, she would much rather see her like this than the brooding self she had started to become. She enjoyed it, she wanted it to continue because it was nice for her to. She could relate, to having someone you love… not be there. To be separated from someone your heart acked for. So she would help Clarity, help her keep smiling, laughing, and yes, even keep being embarrassed.
”Well I can’t argue with you there~! I’d never be able to pull off the cute outfits Lebreau helped me with! I mean, can you IMAGINE me or you in full plate armor? No way, not even with Lightning's blade will I be doing that”
Oh but Lumina would have her comeback, and in the best way as it was Serah’s turn now to become flustered. Her marriage? But Snow wasn’t even here yet! Then again… there was so much to plan for weddings wasn’t there? She’d have to pick the right spot in the world, find a place that represented their love…. Find the right outfit for her….. The right one for Snow… invite anyone she needed to by that point.. Ah she’d need to get catering for it!
….Lumina had now been the one to give Serah a focus so to speak.
”I…I… you're right! There's so much to plan! I was putting it off until he go here, but what am I thinking?? If i have it prepared we can finally get it done as soon as he lands! The room… yes, that’ll be the first step! Of course I have sis… thank you””
Lumina, you’ve unleashed a monster…
But one that would be quelled for now as Lumina gripped her head, this of course caused Serah to leap forward in a rush, grabbing her sister’s arms in worry. The pained expression on her face told volumes when she knew anything could happen here. The possibilities raced through her mind. Things that would hurt, things she didn’t want to happen, but then…
A reporter? A reporter in the New World…. Serah thought about it, her hands not letting go of her sister as she did so. There had been several. But if there was one that would stand out…
”Do you mean Aoede? Well, yes. She went around asking me, and everyone else about the old world, about the memories people still had of it. I told her my account, but… also I felt if people fully remembered they might be held back living their lives now… then, but.. I remember she worried after that but, she kept going, as she should”
The memory made her smile but, more than that, her expression turned confused.
”Wait, but how do you know about…. that?”
She blinked in confusion, finally letting her sister go once she was steady. Lumina hadn’t come to the new world, or… if she had it was as a full part of Lighting. As far as she had surmised though Lumina hadn’t had memory of it here, or at least she had never brought up the New World to her.
”......if you start giving stoic grunts I’m going to riot”
She chuckled, despite her worry.things moved on. Lumina accepted the role Serah wanted to play, which warmed Serah’s heart. Despite this Lumina of course still worried. She was her big sister after all. That protectiveness would always be there. Well, of course it was. She had sheltered her soul for so long hadn’t she?
”I’ll be careful, I promise. I don’t have any intention of fighting if I don’t need to, or putting myself in harm's way needlessly. I’m only going to do what I need to, to protect our happiness. So… thank you, sis, thank you for understanding, I have to make my big sister proud right?”
It seemed though that Lumina would be able to give her those fireworks, or at least a form of them. The excitement of which gave a bright twinkle in Serah’s eyes as she, rather excitedly proceeded to pick ‘Clarity’ up in a tight hug.
”Really? Yes! Make it happen, Ah…. to see them again i thought…”
But, there was a catch. Well not so much a ‘catch’ as her sister needing her help. Well not so much ‘needing her help’ as ‘not wanting to do it herself’ But that was ok. She was clearly, ever so clearly trying to prod her into it. But that was fine, she didn’t mind helping her sister when she needed it.
”Next week, assuming this trip isn’t TO long, I have a few days off I can use to run your errand”
She crossed her arms, shaking her head, as if trying to predict what Lumina might do with that time she was away.
”which, if I’m doing that, YOUR taking over Guardian of Claire duties while I’m gone, a fair trade yes? Besides…. I have to admit, it is exciting, seeing a new place”
She grinned, yeah she wasn’t just going to let things run wild, She’d have enough worry about Claire while she was off on this errand.
Serah frowned, crossing her arms as Lumina at last made it very clear what she meant the girl sighed.
”Yes yes, ok MOM, I’ll remember, I know, I want to be respected as a teacher, I need to dress the part, I’m sure you know just the garb for all this to~”
And then Lumina made a good and loud sound, very firmly, very loudly, in a way that made it very clear what her opinion was.
”Oh but come on sis….”
She squinted, sighing, she thought it would be cool, but if Clarity had this much of a reaction to it…
”Ok fine… no nickname. Your right, your right. I was just trying to go for the coolness factor you know? Serah sighed as Lumina continued, putting a hand on her hip in her typical ‘meanie miss farron’ pose, though this time it was more to indicate that she knew Lumina was up to something here.
”Right, And why do I get the feeling you have a SPECIFIC one in mind, Clarity? I hadn’t considered it yet….. I guess I wouldn't be opposed….”
A thoughtful hand to her chin was what Lumina would see as Serah went into though… why yes, Serah did know what Lumina likely had in mind… sneaky, sneaky was she.
But she couldn't deny that the prospect was appealing.

I'm not an army of one
Caius could teleport
….
His dragon could teleport! That was amazing! She couldn't help but take a moment to marvel at the teamwork they displayed. They were a true unit in combat, able to coordinate their attacks in what seemed to her at least to be a perfect union. Not only that but, it seemed Caius had experience working as a team in general as well, with how he added his flame to her air. But that did make sense, he helped lead his own group after all… a leader wasn’t too effective if he couldn't work with his teammates! It did however give her greater confidence that they would be able to handle this thing. She received a shock however when in the course of trying to douse the flames her ally was knocked back with a fierce blow from the beast. In worry she would call after him as she flew back across the area.
”Caius!”
She began to move after him, but stopped when his partner caught him, however they were both now, in what appeared to her a vulnerable state compared to the beast. She needed to push it back, or at least give Caius an opening to make a move. She wanted it to be what ended but… She would be fine if it gave Caius time to recover. She took a deep breath, ready to put her plan into action.
”Rocket, block it off!”
Whether the direction it chose was towards her, or to take advantage of the seemingly prone Caius, the machine would block its path, slamming into it and blocking it’s way forward with Steelward It was a durable thing, but even it was pushing its limits against a foe of this power and size, which meant Serah had to get this done before it gave out. Another deep breath as she drew her string back, this time however she was not notching an arrow, but her magic. Her strongest spell began to weave itself as Rocket did its best to hold the beast back, a feat harder and harder by the second. What would appear as light began to dance along the bow, energy pulling itself more and more as time went on, forming into a large, incredibly large arrow of light ready to be fired. Curiously however, at least to onlookers this arrow was not aimed at the beast directly, but at the sky above it. But that was how this attack worked best, how it got the most mileage. Her intent was to rain force upon the beast, in an attempt to bring it to its knees or, if nothing else at least let Caius make a move.
By this point Rocket was likely to be being pushed back to, if not outright knocked aside all together, if it was brought down it would return to its crystal. But she continued her focus none the less.
Almost there…
Almost..
Almost…
”Aaaaaah!"
The large arrow was let lost at the sky above the Behomoth and, as if making its mark formed a pool of white magical energy above it. From this pool would rain countless white magical arrows upon the beast, her own storm of if you would back to back in a steady fall, likely doubling as entrapment for the beast as the attack pelted it. The magical arrows would be sharp, painful to it… and together would be quite painful if allowed to connect, while also being difficult to avoid given its size.
The con was that it took a lot out of her, causing the woman to give a deep breath, resting on her knee. It wasn't that she could no longer fight, but rallying that forth drained her, though it would be worth it she believed, she hoped it was enough.
She was right, of course. It was crazy to think about sometimes… but they had, for centuries, been together. Serah smiled, nodding in agreement.
That won’t change, you know. We are a family, the Farron sisters… that's a bond nothing can break”
She truly did believe that. If nothing else she trusted in their bond more than anything. She wouldn't let anything break it, and she knew her sister’s felt the same way. Their connection was one they wouldn't allow to tarnish. As long as they were here they would make a happy life. As long as she was here she would ensure Claire’s happiness. This was a world she could be happy, and where Lumina could be free. She… wanted her to be happy as well, but she knew how hard that would be for her right now. What she could do was support her, and ensure she still smiled. Sister’s supported each other… and she had no intention of leaving Lumina’s side. When it came to her assessment of Snow Serah gave a playful huff ass she crossed her arms. This side might seem comical to anyone watching them, the way Serah reacted to the smaller girl in exactly the way she would the big sister she actually was. Lumina wasn’t as bad as Light had been, but she still underestimated him! Or, more likely didn’t see his charm as well.
”Hmph, clearly you both need me to teach you better taste if a hero like Snow is barely passing! Next you’ll start knocking his sense of fashion, I swear”
Oh she likely would Serah, Claire herself to boot!
Lumina hadn’t intended it, surely but the reminder that Serah herself was a lot of the reason Light had ended up the say she did hinged her a bit. She knew that was the truth, If Light hadn’t had to raise her, look out for her future… she could have had her life, her dreams… maybe she could have found her ‘Hope’
…..She could have her life now, though, she was going to make sure it.
”Yeah… I remember, I'm glad she has her life now, you know? I’m glad you can both live your lives…”
She gave a half smile, She still felt guilty about that at times, that she had taken so much of her sister’s life from her. It was why it was harder for her to get on Claire here, though she certainly had. It was a rough balance, deciding what to do, when to let her go and when to reel her in.
Twin devils indeed, had she misworded there…? Of course, her protectiveness… she couldn't help that though. This big sister thing was confusing but… one thing she was sure of was that whoever was with Claire had to be the right person, someone who would make her happy!
Luckly the subject didn’t stay here, but on the lighter subject of Leo, Lumina seemed to agree that telling him was best, though she was worried how he would feel. She could understand why, of course. But if it remained this way the guy would just remain confused and, possibly hurt.
”I understand that… but the way things are going he’s going to be hurt anyway sis. At least this way he knows the truth, and he can decide what to do on his own, thats the right thing right?, oh and sis, so am I, technically I doubt that's going to stop Claire from trying something if Snow doesn’t hurry up and get here”
Serah sighed, rubbing her forehead at the thought. Little did Serah know, Claire was already trying to date off one of her sisters!
It made her feel unique.. Yeah she could see that, it was something that had been a big thing for Lumina before. Serah could tell the difference in her sisters, she saw each of them as their own unique person despite what anything else said. And in this world at least, they could live their own lives. Serah grinned, it was nice huh? Hand to her hip she nodded.
”I don’t have to call you that you know, But if you do like it.. Well, what do you think? I can leave that to Leo if you’d prefer it only be him~”
Yes she was teasing, she couldn't help herself. It wasn’t as if she had to worry about Lumina’s dating life after all right? So it was safe to make little teases like this to help her smile or retaliate with her own comebacks. This was a safe bet.
….right?
When corrected the taller Farron would sigh, flipping her hair back as if to say ‘I know, I KNOW’ However it also returned that playful, teasing grin to Serah’s face as she pretended to look her sister, walking about the room and leaning in, even putting her hand to her chin in mock thought.
”I don’t know sis, I seem to remember Lighting Farron being taller… more built… ready to kick someones face in at a moments notice…”
She chuckled, but it was also her way of repeating what she had already said, that Lumina was Lumina, her own person. That said she did understand what she meant by it. Claire hadn’t done those things, of course she hadn’t. Somehow she was sure the opinion and actions towards Snow wouldn't be… too different though.
Definitely more chaotic, however.
She frowned at the subject of time to herself. Maybe, but what was she supposed to do for that? She could go on a trip with Lumina, but that would hardly be the type of free time Lumina mean’t. She didn’t have NORA or people in general to hang out with other than the teachers at school, as focused on taking care of things as she had been lately. She supposed she could just… visit some places? Meet new people? That did sound nice, but she’d need to keep it around here of course. She was still taking care of Claire after all.
”Oh? And what does my big sister recommend? Though… that's not a solution is it? Heh… still, i guess you're right”
That frown returned when her love of Lighting was brought up. Her free arm protectively wrapped around her waist as her head leaned to the side in thought. Of course she did. How much had her sister done for her? How had she sacrificed? More than that her sister was… her sister. She loved her, she cared about her.
”Of course I do, Those memories shouldn't fade to darkness… no matter what. Even if I'm the only one carrying the memory on, I don’t want it to die. I refuse to forget the way i’m forgetting… that man”
Lumina was right, she realized. She could never forget the memories back home after all. The ones here were the ones she had to fight for. The ones she refused to let fade away. She subcounsly ran her hands along the hilt of the Blazefire Saber as she thought about it, thought about everything.
”I’m…. Already forgetting someone important, someone who helped me save her, sis. I… I can barely remember his face. I don’t want that to happen to these memories, the ones i made with her here, I refuse to let them, or her memory die”
She giggled as Lumina spoke on the role she chose, telling her not to overdo it and reminding her that she wasn’t alone, that she always had her. At this Serah smiled, pulling the Saber from its sheath and letting it rest in front of her, as if making a pledge.
”If you're worried about me going all ‘Army Of One’ sis, Don’t be, I know better. I don’t plan on trying to carry the world on my shoulders, and…. I don’t plan on doing everything alone. If anything…. I’m gonna need your help now more than ever hehe… What I do plan on doing… is preserving the happiness we have here, no matter what. I mean… you and Light look the best when you smile. If I need to fight to protect our happiness… I want to be ready, I WILL be ready”
She smiled, tilting her head to the side once more as she resheathed the saber.
”It’s my turn to be the hero, you know? That’s all, and heroes are nothing without the people supporting them”
She made that reference to her fiance whole heartedly with a big, confident, happy grin-it was something she would not go back on.
”Though I wish…. We had some of those wish granting fireworks, it would make things easier wouldn't it? It… would be nice to see them again”
And.. things turned around to that Fiance not being here, and her ae compared to her students, to which was gained another huff as she crossed her arms once more.
”Hey my age shouldn't matter, they need to respect their teachers! Oh… i’ll give them a firm talking to!”
Poor students… they might soon learn the terror that was ‘Meanie Miss Farron’
”Really…? That makes it feel nice working there then… heh..”
Serah still wasn’t connecting the dots, no she wasn’t. It seemed Serah had her own ‘moments’ and this one, was the very obvious point her sister was trying to point out to her.
”Of course she would! I mean you see me don’t you? She gave me a lot of my clothing advice while i lived with NORA you know”
That… might have explained a lot actually.
Lumina kept going into the subject of clothes, much to Serah’s delight. It seemed she would have a whole wardrobe from her sister by the time things were done… The thought made her happy. It made her delighted! She went over the the thoughts in her head, the possibilities for their trip before jumping for joy , hands shot in the air along with her. If Lumina was worried that Serah planned to follow down the Lighting path fully, perhaps this would reassure her.
”Thank you sis! I’m in your hands~ we’ll make a whole day out of it, you and me! Farron sisters on the town! Honestly my last big wardrobe change was due to magical intervention, so this is going to be fun”
She blinked at Lumina’s talk of dressing more maturely, and then, invading Lumina’s personal space put a hand to her forehead as if checking her temperature. She kept her hand there for a moment before leaning back up, tapping her chin in thought.
”Huh…. No fever… well.. If you want to sis! Oh but I do have one question…”
She took this one seriously, though in truth what Lumina was about to hear might come off more comedic to her ears. Serah looked determined, it was clear what she was about to say seemed like a ‘must do’ for her.
”What should my nickname be?! Thunder?? I don’t know a bunch of electric based names!”

I'm not an army of one
Serah blinked, well she had expected Claire to beat her to the explanation, but not QUITE so fast as all that, or for Caius to take it so casually. It made her feel a bit foolish to have even made a big deal out of it. She sighed, this would at least mean the shorter version was viable, a quick line before they got into the heat of things.
”That’s right.. Claire used to …. Well, that’s probably not the best wording, simply, before whatever game this world plays kicked in, she was my older, much grumpier sister, but here… she's in her younger form, with a chance at life she didn’t have before, because of me”
This monster though, was the more important thing right now. Stopping it, and preventing it from bringing disaster to an already recovering city. The people in that city, and the city itself were not responsible for the things that happened to her. They deserved to live, to enjoy their lives just as much as Claire did. This city where the three of them had made their home… she would not let it fall! Besides that…. Caius had helped her sister, quite a bit. She was going to return that favor now, by supporting him here.
Speaking of the man was a sight to behold in combat, even more so with his dragon supporting him. Well they were similar in that way she supposed, both relying on beastial allies to help them in combat. Well, Serah had one mechanical one, but still!
This beast though, was just as dangerous as she remembered. The flames spread, but Bennu and Serah backed away, Rocket? It hulked itself down in front of them, fulfilling its main role, the guard, as an Element Guard Formed around them. She had some worry about Caius not being close enough for it to affect him but… she doubted this thing was going to let them get that close, and besides it was just asking for trouble to be grouped in one spot against a Behemoth. The reduced power of the flames would allow them to gain ground however. Serah dismissed Bennu at this point, he was a strong Chocobo of course, but against something like this beast the last thing he wanted was him getting manhandled. So as Bennu returned to his crystal and a slightly more charred Rocket rose back up she began to think of ways to stop this thing before it could hurt anyone else. She had an ace in the whole of course, but it wasn’t like it was an attack she could just release on a whim, it also took a lot out of her to do so. Using it this soon might result in her being too open if it’s not enough to take it down. No, perhaps if she could find a strong opening but for now…
”Rocket distract it!”
So the mech went about its duty, flying in a direction away from Caius and Serah, and of course not in the direction of the town. In the processi it began pelting the beast with small blasts of energy, not in an effort to hurt it overall, but to Provoke it instead. Keeping its attention from Serah and Caius. While it did so Serah herself took a breath, then began moving forward, the distraction would allow her to cover ground and focus her magic. Speaking of, this time she had an idea of what to do, With Rocket distracting it, if they could hold it down in one spot, pelting it with attacks would be far easier. So that was what she planned to do. Focusing her magic she first unleashed Aeroga causing a powerful wind to form around the Behemoth, trying to force it to it’s center and keep it there, after as arrows wearn’t going to do while those winds raged she plied a Thundaga, Symbolic throwing her hands down and causing a powerful bolt of lighting to strike at the beast from above the wind!
If there was something she was good at, it was magic. She didn’t have to get up close and personal to give this thing a wallop!

I'm not an army of one
That moment was for them. A moment for sisters to cry into each other's arms. For sisters who both knew the cruelty of this world first hand. They let their emotions loose into each other. Both cried for each other, for what they had been through. Yes this moment was theirs. And when they looked up from it? Tear filled smiles adorned them both. To let loose those emotions they had been holding inside… yes it was just what they had needed. The storm clouds had not fully parted, but they at least had been able to relive some of their pent up rain. Before she let Lumina down she had one thing to add.
”We can lean on each other, sis”
When it was done she wiped the drying tears from her face, yes… it had done a lot for her as well.
She chuckled as Lumina conceded to her sister’s knowing. Of course she did! They were sisters after all. Serah knew all about her sisters, past and present. She knew how they ticked and how they moved. This didn’t make her a mind reader of course, they did surprise her quite a bit. But she knew who they were at their core.To Serah they were not the same person, at least not anymore. Putting that aside though…. Lumina’s situation made it all the easier.
But that wasn’t to say Serah was perfect in this matter, Lumina and Light were clever little things after all. Still, reality and what Serah thought were two different things here.
”Of course~ Can’t put the wool over my eyes!”
She gave a wide grin, patting her sister's shoulder playfully. As the subject came to Leo, Lumina’s reply made her giggle, nodding her head in agreement.
”She’s always been like that, even if it changed over time. I mean, look how long it took her to see how great Snow is!”
It had been a worry in Serah’s mind if she was being honest, Leo was a good kid at heart, but Serah was also *protective* at heart when it came to her family. Much in the same way her older had been of her, though not QUITE as strong a showing.
Yet…..
Serah did cross her arms in thought however, when the subject of who Claire would be interested in came up. Someone like Hope? Her thoughts went over that, Serah had the advantage of, rather ironically knowing Hope at several stages in his life. It was because of this fact that a thought occurred to her, that thought being that… if Lumina was correct, which she probably was, then ironically the type of person Claire would go for was the exact type her older self wanted for her. …..that explained a lot actually. She had to admit it did sound right however. If someone was going to be with her sister she’d like it to be someone like Hope. She’d rather it be someone like that than a trouble maker, or person that would encourage her…. Habits a lot. At the same time Lumina was right, someone who would support her was needed, truly and without restraint. If someone was to love her… yes.. Lumina was right. That was certainly her sisters type.
”You know…that's definitely light, do you think she’d admit such though? I wonder if she would with how she acts… not that i'm in any hurry for her to… andn I’d have to make sure the person was…”
She cut herself off, she was going to say ‘just right’ a bright blush of embarrassment crossing her face as the conversation continued. With witch, Serah had her own comment to make.
”Owe? And whos who in that scenario sis? You sure it isn’t double devils? Maybe to Leo there's one…”
The smile spoke of her joking around in that matter. She had to admit though that while Leo may not have been Claire’s type in anyway, he at least perhaps could be a source of comfort for Lumina. At least that was the impression she had gotten so far. She only stopped letting herself be carried because of the risk of people seeing, and even after that they held hands.
”Well is it fair not to? Assuming he can’t already see through the different ways you both act, He’s getting the way you treat him, and the way Light treats him… which as you’ll recall are very different. One second he’s holding hands with her the next he’s getting a face full of DON’T TOUCH MEEE! I mean, if he can’t tell that's got to hurt at some point right? At least if he knows whos who to a degree he doesn’t have to deal with wondering what's going on?”
She put a thoughtful hand to her chin when hearing the nickname Leo had given to ‘Claire’ raising an eyebrow in the process, a playful, teasing smirk of her own playing across her features.
”Maybe he does… more importantly it sounds like you like that name a bit, eh Clarity?, in any case… I do think he should know, don’t you?”
Lumina giggle, she gave a proper lumina one, and it made serah smile warmly when she saw it, though she gave a huff when called ‘Mrs Farron’ crossing her arms once more.
”A system of chaos you mean! Sheesh, and to think she’d get on me about my dates with Snow later… at least I didn’t skip out on class…”
Oh she could believe that Claire would do her own homework, to an extent given her goals. What was harder to believe, more so given the way her dear sister was cracking up was that she was to proud to let Lumina’s help, or allow her to help.
”Oh sure she doesn’t, and I'm the Valkyrie herself! Still…. As long as she’s still learning it’s hard to get on her, which I'm sure she’s VERY aware of. *sigh*” I’m trying to let her enjoy her new freedom, I want her to… but I have to balance things somehow don’t I? If I let her go to wild… *sigh*”
She was conflicted in that manner, between letting Claire enjoy the new life she had and making sure she grew up properly, without a mess of bad habits. It wasn’t that she mistrusted her sister ether, Claire was a good, if chaotic young girl. She just… wanted her future to be the best possible.
Serah gulped, though it was to a younger tone her older sister’s way of speaking always had its way of grasping her attention. She blinked in surprise, but shook her head, a determined look on her face as she grasped the hilt of the blade instinctively.
”I need something to protect myself and… I refuse to let those memories fade away. She wouldn't have wanted the last time her weapon was wielded to be against people she cared about, to harm people. Besides…. I’m the protector now right?”
She listened as her sister continued, her hand not leaving the hilt as she closed her eyes in thought. She knew these things, she knew how special it was. That was why she refused to let it remain buried, for it’s last use to have been in such a horrible way. No, she would carry its legacy into the future instead, in her hands. She opened her eyes as Lumina finished that determined smile still present on her face.
”I’m happy to invoke it”
Her move had worked, checkmate. Lumina was now far to into helping her decide her new wardrobe to focus on her own inner feelings. Serah of course had every intent on stoking that flame to. Though this didn’t come before a haunting realization for Serah:The senior students gazes, immediately causing serah to become flustered as she flailed her arms. Her face turned red as she shook her head in denial.
”W..what do you mean? My students wouldn't be like that! I’ve seen no such thing I… I’ll give them detention if they do!”
Oh yeah, she was way over the hill on that, her students couldn't be giving her gazes!
”B..but I am someone's fiance!”
Serah defended, wasn’t that a good thing then???
That said she did like the outfit Lumina was describing. She tried to envision it and it sounded nice… it wasn’t modern like most of her current clothing but that made since for where they were living. Besides it sounded adorable and very comfertable which she loved! ….wait a second…
”Hey don’t knock Lebreau like that, she’s great!”
Yeah, what Lumina likely really meant went over her head there…
Despite that initial take back she would soon lean in as Lumina really got into things. She smiled.
”Should I take this as a yes then~? Can I count on you to make the wondrous outfit your sister desperately needs? Oh Clarity I need you!”
She wanted to keep that smile… for as long as she could.
She had said so when they met up once more and she still believed it now….
Lumina deserved to be happy…
And besides she had something from ‘Lighting’
This was for Lumina above all else but… she wanted something special from her too.

I'm not an army of one
Though she normally would have asked how to do it the naturally curious girl she was, Serah would let Caius lock her in, all the better for them to get to their destination quickly, Somehow she had expected to simply ride on the dragon’s back, but supposed, given that this was the man's partner it made sense he’d be prepared with things like this. She couldn't help but wonder if that had always been the case, or if there had been an incident that got Caius to add one on after the fact. Maybe she’d ask when they weren't so busy! Once she was secure she would listen to the man describe what he knew about the situation. What they were going after wasn’t your average foe, but then that made sense-someone convenally stronger like Caius wouldn't have been needed if the situation could be handled by your average security force.
”If it’s that dangerous I’m glad I came. Monsters like that are dangerous to fight alone. Well… but I’m sure you know that, and i’m not trying to fault you or anything”
If anything it was exactly what her fiance, or heck even what she would have done if she knew people were in danger. She dreaded the idea of people getting hurt, more so in a world like the one they found themselves in, there was no telling what would happen.
Besides… it was the right thing to do wasn’t it? For her, the best time when people were happy, that time was decidedly not when a giant creature was tearing down your house. Unfortunately for her though focus wasn’t destined to stay fully on there goal even with the hurry they were in, because Caius had in fact caught on to her little slip up. Which in turn made the determined Serah a bit embarrassed despite the situation. Rubbing the back of her head she tried to think of some way she could explain things away, or at least explain it quick enough before they got to their target. Sadly neither was possible, there was just no way she could explain enough in time, and as she had been certified the worst liar in the world without someone helping her quite a FEW times Caius was bound to see through it if she attempted a falsehood. So instead she sighed shaking her head.
”Yes…? I mean no… I mean…. It’ll take too long to explain, It’s… a complicated matter. Well, I’ll explain assuming my dear ‘little’ sister doesn’t manage some way to beat me to the punch”
Surely there was no way it could occur, and yet… this was Claire she was talking about, she’d find away. Caius seemed to agree as he made no attempt to prod her futher on the matter, at least for now. Mostly because they were quickly coming up to the place that was in danger. As they flew above the area she caught sight of what they had come here to fight.
It was a Behemoth, one of those hulking beasts. In her adventures with Noel she had dealt with a few of the things, so she knew full well. These things were capable of taking down even experienced, powerful fighters if they were careless.
It made her all the more glad she had insisted on coming, she’d have felt horrible if something had happened to her new friend when she could have helped.
Worse was, if she was remembering right this wasn’t a normal breed. If it was the same type as what she had run into before it was a stand out among its kind, a ‘king’
And that made it all the more important they were coordinated, so it could be taken down as soon as possible. For the safety of everyone involved. Serah worked best with a plan, and that was exactly what Caius had given her. She would ensure the safety of the soldiers that had fallen facing this beast, along with making sure no one else could get hurt. Afterwards she would back Caius up.. And they would end this.
”Right! Be safe till I get to you!”
As Caius’ ally flew low Serah did as asked, releasing her restraints and with a practiced flip landed on the ground below. What followed, both Caius’ words and his partner’s fireball were plenty to signal to Serah to get moving, and that was just what she did. First was the matter of the trapped guards. Serah herself wasn’t overly strong in the physical department, and the use of magic risked their safety. She DID have a solution to that issue though. And it came in the form of a little machine aid! Taking one of her crystals from her her satchel, it’s brilliance shined as the uncreativly named Lancer Rocket appeared in a flash of light.
”Ok Rocket! Lift this stuff off of these guys!”
Receiving its orders the bulky machine proceeded to do just, piece by piece taking what kept the soldiers pinned down, as it did so Serah would check each of the soldiers wounds, healing each with her Cure magic as needed. Once done they attempted to thank her for her work, but Serah simply smiled shaking her head.
”It’s no problem! Don’t feel bad, ok? That kind of monster is of the nastiest sort. But… I do need your help to find any stragglers to get everyone to safety, then me and my friend are going to show the thing whose boss!”
The soldiers gave determined nods, eager to make up for their earlier failure. WIth their direction it was much easier to find those that remained in the line of sight, even more so with her using the combined force of Rocket and her red chocobo, Bennu to get everyone to safety. It took a bit to do so, with her occasionally looking back to Caius’ fight, hoping he and his dragon were able able were not coming to too much harm in the process. Eventually she did the last person away, the last solder as well, promising they would handle while they kept the people safe. A very Snow like:
”We’ve got this!”
Proceeded her, complete with a bright smile, before turning back to the field of battle with a determined look as she made her way atop Bennu’s back to charge it. She readied magic in her hand as she raced forward on his back, a large ball of light esk magic, Ruinga. She called to her robotic ally as she readied her shot:
”Rocket!”
Understanding the command the robot unleashed its Feral link, the barrage of thunder energized blasts called ‘Orbital Battery’ along the beast's body, while Serah herself aimed her magic to fire right in the big lug's face!
”Right I’m back, let's do this!”
She was a determined girl, set on ending this creature's rampage, she had her bow notched now, spells to use on her mind to bring it down to its knees!

I'm not an army of one
‘I hate this place’
It was a statement that had often played in her mind. Did she mean the world, or the circumstances? She wasn’t entirely sure. Most people were nice enough. But there were the things that still stuck out in her mind like a nagging wound that just wouldn't go away. The truth was she didn’t know how she should feel. On one hand she hated it… she hated it a lot.
This place was the reason Lighting got that bug inside her, the reason she turned her blade on many. The reason Serah,Fang and…. That other man had to almost end the life of her sister.
THAT! That she could barely remember that man's face! That was the fault of this place to! A man she was grateful to, a man she had wanted to see again once light had recovered.
If she saw him again would she even recognise it at this point? Even if she did, would he in turn even remember what happened?
It was the reason…. For her other sister's pain right now.
It was fickle, it was cruel. The world was like a toy box, taking out what was wanted and throwing things in anew.
So why was she so unsure?
Perhaps it was because the gods, or whatever was responsible gave in the same vein they took. As much as this world had done harm in her eyes she couldn't deny things that wouldn’t have happened without it.
She wouldn't have met the kind Caius, for one.
And most certainly her now younger sister wouldn't have her second chance at life, a chance to do all the things she had missed out on.
Yet at the back of her mind she couldn't help a thought. As much as she tried to keep her positivity up and deny it. As much as she tried to tell herself it wouldn't happen, couldn't happen. That nagging, painful thought persisted nonetheless.
‘How long would it last?’
These were the feelings that dwelled in her heart, ones she did her best to keep from showing on the surface She tried to stay as positive and upbeat as she always had been even as her once older sister’s blade clacked in sheathe alongside her lower back, as she clung to the knife at her leg, from a sister who didn’t even remember doing so. Perhaps if she didn’t have them, her memories would have already gone regarding those events to.
……She didn’t want to think about it.
”That’s good! People do seem to be recovering well don’t they…? I wish they could keep that peace”
Filler words at best, they were dancing around the main subject.
”Oh but I love teaching sis, and it gives us a little extra as well, besides it wouldn't be fair to put EVERYTHING on you. This way I can teach Light to and make sure she’s behaving. It’s.. nice honestly…. I may just be one of her classes, but i think she's learning a lot from me!”
And then it came, the admission on her sister’s part. She wanted to cry, she wanted to let it all out. But she didn’t. She couldn't. That thought was what let the tears finally rise to the surface for Serah, and without giving it a second thought a hand on Lumina’s shoulder had changed to turning her around, and in one more swift movement she had picked up her regressed sister in her arms and held her, her arms clinging to her tightly like she was never going to let her go. Tears spilled from her eyes but only a few words came out. But perhaps that was all that was needed to convey convey her emotions in full, all that was needed to say that she understood her sister’s feelings.
”I know…”
If Lumina broke out her tears in turn, Serah wouldn't let her go until she had let out, and said whatever she needed to. When at last she did let her back down the subject had turned to Leo, one of her students. Serah gave a light smile.
”Oh I know you’ve been switching, I can tell you and Light apart sis, plus, she always brings Mog with her when she goes so… it’s all the more obvious”
As for the subject of Leo himself well…
”Well.. He’s a pretty good student usually, he and Light seem to have a rivalry going on in class. From what i’ve seen he’s pretty hard headed to, has gotten himself in trouble a few times over silly stuff. I do believe it’s less a rivalry for him at time, and more him trying to woo Light with his ‘prowess’ If you held his hand… the switching yall are doing might just be confusing him I think, should I have a talk with him sis?”
She didn’t bring up that ‘they should stop switching’ at least not right now. She hadn’t because at least it gave her sister here something. Something to help shine a light on her loneliness.
”I’m not going to stop the switching… but I will be making sure Light does the work for my classes herself whenever you do switch~”
A bit of a lighter note… to try and soften things up. She had had another idea though, while she was here. Something to help occupy her mind.
”Hey sis…. I could ask Light this sure but.. Her sense tends to be to over the top for me….”
In truth, Claire would have done just fine, but she was trying to help her sister with this.
”I was planning to well… use her blade you know? And I figure for that… I might need fitting attire for it… you could let your mind run wild on it if you like, whether making or finding something”
