Zenos viator Galvus
Zenos was waiting in silence, under the shadow of a tall tree. Leaning against its trunk with his broad shoulders, he had crossed his arms and closed his eyes. He was asked to cooperate with someone to take down an incredibly powerful creature that had gone rampant soon after it appeared on Zephon. He only knew that many had tried to destroy the metallic monster and none came back, so he had been contacted by he did not even remember who, with the promise of a fierce fight but under the condition of fighting alongside another mercenary - one just as skilled as him.
The description was simple: a mighty metallic monster, black and red in colour, with a tail akin to a dragon’s and incredibly sharp claws, as well as the ability to cast magic. It surely did sound promising, so he had accepted. In the worst possible case, it would all be unbearably boring and nothing would be any different from his usual days. In the best possible scenario, though, he would be incredibly entertained.
One strand of his long, blonde hair fell on his face and he moved it behind his ear, opening his eyes and letting his icy gaze wander among his surroundings. With nobody in sight, he eventually chose to take his scythe and warm up a little. With no mannequin to hit, he simply initiated his routine rotating the scythe above his head and slashing at the air. He then followed with a few slashes one after the other.

[attr="class","nikki109"]Well. These reports certainly reminded Oren of back home... Machines going berserk and needing to be destroyed or merely deactivated wasn't exactly an uncommon occurrence in Midgar and even elsewhere in his homeworld. It was rather strange to hear of a situation like this in Zephon, though. The only place here that probably had similar sorts of robotics would likely be Sonora... And that was a place Oren currently avoided like the plague. Yet, this problem wasn't in Sonora... No. It apparently just appeared out of nowhere one day... Just like how he and many other 'Outlanders' who called Zephon their new 'home' did. Oren's contact for this mission had informed him that he had to make a trip to Provo for this little outing. Many had apparently already tried destroying this machine to no avail, thus it had come down to seeking out powerful mercenaries to do the job... Due to the potential danger, it was firmly insisted upon that Oren would have to, once again, team up with another for this mission. Apparently one sufficiently 'crazy' person had already accepted the mission. There was a lot to potentially gain from this mission so Oren decided to be that second crazy person who'd work to take down the otherworldly machine. Apparently this other mercenary also was incredibly skilled, though Oren was not given much information on who the other actually was beyond the basics and where they were to meet up at.[break][break]
Oren had been meaning to go to Provo to look for extra work so this ended up being a nice excuse to hang around the area for a little while before he had to go back 'home'... This was admittedly something he was looking forward to. A battle that might actually be a challenge for him considering it was something that seemed to be truly unknown and different to him. A lot of the monsters here were just counterparts to things he could find back home... Or disappointing when he did see something more unique. It was almost... Exciting? Of course, that was just that side of him that enjoyed the thrill of a fight more than he liked to admit... At least when he could think clearly. Oren had taken an airship to Provo from Torensten and then had started making his way to the outskirts of the main city to meet with his designated partner...[break][break]
And that is when he saw the man... Oddly pretty looking, but that wasn't really what caught Oren's immediate attention... No...[break][break]
Oren's eyes widened. While he had been informed the man he was to work with was on the larger side, this was... Something else entirely. The man swinging around a scythe for practice was enormous. He would make the Big Merc Leader himself (Caius) look like a Cactaur in comparison... Once Oren got over that initial shock, he guessed he'd have to break the ice with this dude so they can get the job over with. Oren shoved his hands into his pockets and slowly walked closer to Zenos, but he kept a bit of distance.
[attr="class","dialogue"]"You. Big Man. I take it you're the other merc they assigned to make some scrap metal today...? Pardon any delays in getting here."
In comparison to Zenos, Oren seemed almost... Average looking. The only real standouts being his blue eyes letting off a rather eerie green glow and the 'fancy' sword strapped to his back slotted with peculiar, glowing gems.

Zenos viator Galvus
Step, step, rotate, swing, step, swing, turn, step swing, swing. As Zenos was following his usual no-mannequin routine, he kept aware of his surroundings. He had noticed the approaching man, but chose not to interrupt his practice, only shorten it. The man stood quietly, probably studying him as Zenos would have guessed. A few swings later, as the man spoke, the former prince ceased his training and repositioned his scythe behind his back.
"You. Big Man. I take it you're the other merc they assigned to make some scrap metal today...? Pardon any delays in getting here" he heard the man say. For a long moment, his icy blue eyes stared deep into the man's as the former prince tested him. After a while, he would let his gaze roam along the man's figure. The eyes, the posture, the clothing. The man before him looked like a warrior, and a good one. That, together with his words, brought his mind to the only possible solution: he was the person Zenos had been waiting for. Should he act princely, he wondered? No, the man was a mercenary. There was no need for that. No need for idle chatter or whatever other useless formality.
He nodded. Simple as that. "Let us go." he added soon after, starting to walk in the direction he was told the machine would be. There was no need to talk, warriors often spoke with their weapons more than with their words. "I suppose our target and its location are known to you. It should not be far, less than an hour on foot." he said without looking at the mercenary. If he was as good as Zenos had been told, there would be no reason to tell him to stay on his guard.

[attr="class","nikki109"]... Well. This was a little different than the usual. The behemoth of a man had paused with his exercises after a moment and just... Stared at Oren. Oren didn't even know how long it lasted before he heard a word out of him... Just gazing into his warped soul. If Oren had to guess, he must've been silently gauging him. Oren really wasn't sure how much one could gather from him just standing around, but it seemed whatever the other observed elicited some sort of... Approval? Oren wasn't really sure... He already gathered the man had some clear skill with his scythe and had a baffling stature that definitely had its advantages for combat. Eventually, the other confirmed that he was indeed the other mercenary that Oren was supposed to team up with today and that they had some walking to do to find this robotic... Thing. That was that. He was all business. It was honestly a bit of a relief for once to work with someone like this... He could stay focused and not have to think about matters beyond the mission.[break][break]
Oren would just curtly nod.
[attr="class","dialogue"]"Right... Let us. This should be a simple matter."
Well. Oren could only hope that it would be. While he was a little excited at the prospect of a genuinely unknown enemy, he certainly wasn't prepared to lose to it. What information there was out there on it didn't seem like anything Oren couldn't handle. Oren would then start walking nearby Zenos towards their destination. Unless the other tried saying anything else to Oren, he would remain silent from that point onward. Not exactly much to do when you're just walking to go destroy a giant robot that can somehow use magic. Oren would occasionally fidget with his hands or unsheathe his sword to look it over and swing at the air with it a few times.

Zenos viator Galvus
After their short exchange of words, the two started walking towards the area where the machine had been spotted. The mercenary commented that it should be a simple matter and Zenos did not reply, but he surely hoped for it to be interesting - to some extent, at least. The two walked in silence a couple of steps away from each other: neither of them said a single word and Zenos lost himself in thought.
He had fought magic-wielding machines before. Not often, but he did happen to train against Magitek machinery, destroying it in the process… and killing the soldier operating it consequentially. He wondered whether this machine, in particular, would be similar to the ones he knew, or entirely different. It seemed to be a land machine, but would it be able to fly? He did not think so, but one could never be too sure, especially if the machine was dissimilar to the ones the imperial family commissioned.
He was abruptly shaken from his thoughts by a sudden feeling of danger. By mere instinct, he lept to the side just in time to dodge a ray of fire coming from the sky. The flames left a blazing circle on the ground where he stood only a moment before, and the movement in the air forced him to take one more step to keep his balance. Was it a spell or a missile? His answer came only a second later, as the machine tore down a few trees by throwing a missiles at the: as soon as the line of sight was clear, Zenos instantly recognized the “creature”.
It was none other than the Allagan-made and Garlean-improved Ultima Weapon. A mass destruction man-operated weapon, and as far as he remembered the last person who operated it was Gaius van Baelsar, when he was still a soldier of the Empire. He had thought the Weapon to have been destroyed, but it was also true that in this land time was irrelevant, and things from one’s past or future could all gather together in the same place. He readied his scythe.
"Is that you, Black Wolf?" he asked, although it sounded more like an exclamation than a question. In response, the weapon roared in a half-human and half-metallic voice: "ZENOS!" Only a moment later, it started charging a beam of energy, light accumulating in front of the creature’s chest. Zenos smirked and started running towards it, ready to jump only the fraction of a second before the beam would be released. This should be fun.

[attr="class","nikki109"]It was a pretty uneventful walk. For once, Oren was actually kind of relieved that nothing immediately went wrong on an outing like this. He could distract himself from the usual doom and gloom by trying to strategize how to possibly take on the enemy of the day as well. Him doing that was... More common than one would probably assume. He didn't have any Thunder Materia on him when he was brought to Zephon so he would probably need to be creative with the use of what he did have against something like this... Slow its movements with ice and gravity, ignite weak points with fire, he had his healing and revival materia to keep them going should anything fall flat against the machine... His sword, alongside his strength, was more than tough enough to deal with cutting through machinery as well.[break][break]
However, at around the same time Zenos had started to sense something amiss, Oren also felt something... Strange in the air. It was hard to explain. Perhaps it was indeed just instinct. Things had become a little TOO quiet as the time passed with their trek. Nice as it was... All good things always came to an end, though. A ray had started approaching where the peculiar duo stood and Oren, much as Zenos had done, would leap to the side. Oren's own dodge came in a somewhat more ridiculous fashion as he had lept into the air far higher than what would normally be possible for most people and did an acrobatic flip as if it were second nature to his very being. He would land in the grass, skidding a little further to the side before he immediately pulled Lunaris off of his back again and straightened his stance. It seemed their target had saw them first and would, indeed, make itself known... Oren didn't recognize any machine like it, but it was admittedly a pretty impressive looking one. However, what happened next would confuse Oren just a little bit...[break][break]
Oren's companion had addressed the machine in a manner that indicated he actually recognized it... And the machine, in return, yelled out in a warped, vaguely huamn voice what Oren could deduce was actually the behemoth's name... Zenos. Oren started walking towards that strange weapon.
[attr="class","dialogue"]"Friend of yours, I take it?"
Oren quipped in a somewhat amused manner. Whatever this machine was, it seems likely it was also an 'Outlander' like them... Something that came from wherever Zenos originated. There wasn't much time to actually speak further on the matter before the machine started charging another laser and Zenos had just immediately started gunning for it. Oren took a deep breath and grasped Lunaris with both hands, striking a stance where he held the sword at a downward angle in front of him... Much like a certain one winged angel...
[attr="class","dialogue"]"Alright then... I'll play your game."
Oren's vision started warping in front of him in tune with his own thoughts gradually being overtaken by a desire to rip apart that machine before him... His head started hurting and he knew the only thing that'd make it stop... A grin stretched across Oren's face as he, much like Zenos, started running towards the machine. Much like Zenos, Oren would also prepare to jump out of the way at the very last second... Maybe this will be rather fun after all...
