❝ Let's run away... ... ... ... Ciao!❞
The sound of waves washing ashore the sandy beach was the first thing that was brought to the young ladies attention. The way the wasves pushed and pulled, tossing the rocks, shells, and coral around as it did so. The smell of the sea, water and salt, held high in the air on the beautiful, cloudless day. Upon watching the waves, one would grow mezmerized by the majestic way it moved about in such a rythm, always coming and going. It was the most reliable thing the world had to offer. The waves were always promised to slide upon the shore of the beach.
The ginger's head lifted, feeling the blazing sun's rays across her freckled cheeks, kissing them with such aggressive light and warmth to the point she was forced to lift a hand over her forehead in order to properly look into the bright sky. Then her gaze lowered, looking to and fro, side to side in wonder.
This was not where her memories told her she'd been before being engulfed by the black pit.
The lsat thing she recalled was her hand in Fang's, both making the ultimate sacrifice to save Cocoon and their friends. The touch of her friend's hand still lingered on her own, a ghost of what once was there but no more. Her immediate instinct was to look down, checking her thigh in a flurry, confirming the brand that once marked her as l'Cie was no longer prominent on her complexion. That, too, was just a ghost of a memory now.
"Oh."
Her voice was gentle and soft, scared that perhaps she may have lost her voice. Alas, that was not the case.
In one direction of the beach stood makeshift shelters; likely done by the residents of this place. Perhaps they could educate her on where she was, and that would help her figure out how she got here. Though, odd that har partner wasn't here with her as they'd last been seen together. It always felt like a mortal sin to be away from Fang. That was her closest and dearest friend and being apart meant she could not ensure said individuals safety. (Truth be told, Fang could handle herself just fine.)
The only thing to do now was to pave a path forward towards the huts and she if anyone could help her figure out what was going on.

Told You We'd Meet Again
“Vanille…?”
She couldn't help but think that her eyes were playing tricks on her. Other than her and her sisters she had yet to see anyone from her world since coming here-she had been here for years snow but… nothing. She had made friends, met people and seen several places. She got a teaching job to help the kids learn and grow here.
And yet, seeing the person before her it was still hard to believe, it was hard to process. She blinked, rubbing her eyes as if trying to make sure, Absolutely sure that it was her.
Fang and Vanille were heroes in her eyes.
After all it was through there sacrifice that everything kept going, the world kept turning thanks to them-it was thanks to them that she and the rest kept going.
It was because of their support, that she was able to break free of her trappings in a dream, save noel… and again keep going. They were both wonderful people, friends she treasured.
”Serah, do you think we’ll meet again?”
You'll know what to say when you see your friend again, I promise
She remembered their conversation, that time on the beach. That drop in time they had together. So many things said then made so much more sense now-on both ends she was sure. Vanille and her first met on a beach and, unknowingly to ether helped support each other even then. Each helped the other with the problems they were facing. It was ironic she supposed, and no wonder she thought she was seeing things.
“Vanille, is that you?”
Here on a beach once more, what were the odds? It seemed it was destiny for beaches to be the meeting place, time and time again. Because the closer she got, the more it became clear. It couldn't be anyone else, it was not an illusion to fade unto the wind.
No, that was her friend Vanille.
It was her turn to fall to her knees as she ran up to her old friend, much like Vanille had to her so long ago. Tears flowed from the pinkette’s eyes as the realization fully dawned on her. She was here, someone from her world was here, a good friend… Vanille was here.
Yes, they had met again
Too happy was she to consider anything else, she didn't care right now from what point in her memories Vanille was from. She didn't care if it was just after their first meeting, before… from the time they sacrificed themselves or there time in the new world.
No, all she cares about was the fact Vanille WAS here. With everything she had been going through recently, all her sister had gone through. What they had all gone through.
More than anything, she was happy. Just happy to see Vanille. So she looked up, her eyes stained by tears and hands holding Vanille’s own. Tears of happiness were hers.
“You're not a hallucination.. you're really here! I…I'm sorry I just… I just….”
She couldn't help herself, the relief was to great, her emotions overflowing.
“I'm just, so happy, so happy to see you Vanille, it's been so long since I've seen someone from our world, Just me and my sister…. I…”
She was a mess, a complete mess, but not in a bad way… Serah was relived to the point her happiness went full tilt the other way.
After all the negativity and pain in her life lately-she was happy, more than happy to see the face of Vanille.
She took a deep breath trying to adjust herself, pulling herself back to her feet.
“Ah… I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you could be so confused right now and I'm just… jumping on you like this, ah… Vanille, how long have you been here? Do you need help? Were both here , my sister and me!”
❝ But no matter what happens, we need to keep our dreams alive.❞
❝ Let's run away... ... ... ... Ciao!❞
A voice called to her from the distance; a voice that fit only one person from Vanille’s recollection of memories. Her feet halted in the ceaseless sea of sand, letting her eyes search the vicinity for the pink hair that haunted her within her dreams and outside of them. The swirled long pink hair falling over the other’s shoulder was easily recognized by Vanille, agasp falling from her mouth, hands lifting to cover the gaping mouth. Her eyes were full of surprise and awe, astonished to have ran into someone she knew so soon.
The expectation was that she’d never cross paths with Serah again, after everything the fal’Cie had put them through. After everything she herself put them through. It had been her fault that Serah was turned l’Cie. While one part of her wanted to rush towards the other and pull Serah into her arms and hold her, wipe away her tears, and sooth her, the other part of her dithered, her memories rushing through her mind with everything she had failed to be honest about with Serah upon first meeting the other. The brand had been placed because of her and she had been too much of a coward to tell that truth to Serah. It had been her fault that Serah had turned to a crystal-state as well.
Vanille’s sacrifice in the end of it all was little to make up for all the lies that piled up and how everything could have been better resolved if she had just been open and honest in the first place. Yet here was the kind individual, crying with tears of joy to meet once again with Vanille. She didn’t deserve to have tears spilled for her.
A singular foot pressed down into the sand, swirling it around in an awkward notion as she tried to figure out what the best approach here would be. Should she, too, fall to her knees and plead with Serah to forgive her for her rash and selfish decision to keep her secrets to herself or was she to feign innocence and leave the past behind her? Her hands balled into tiny fists before she relaxed them, pressing them into the front of her skirt. She could feel the tears of guilt prickling at her eyes, threatening to spill as the other continued to speak words of joy and love to have Vanille with her.
Vanille’s guilty mind was of little consequence compared to letting someone she cared so much about cry before her. Thus, all thoughts were cast aside and she moved quickly, running to greet the other. She dropped to her knees, the coral that had washed ashore pressing into the skin of her legs but that was easily ignored for the person before her. Her arms quickly wrapped around the petite frame, pulling Serah into her and holding her there.
“It’s alright. I’m here. We’re here together again. There’s no more need to cry. We’re together.”
Carefully, she leaned back, letting her forehead press against the others, raising both her hands to the others face, wiping away those beautiful tears that were being shed for someone such as herself. It was a cardinal sin to have such a thing displayed for just anyone to see and Vanille would not allow it.
Once the tears had been wiped carefully away, she had one hand grab her friend’s hand, the other on the back of Serah’s head, holding her there, foreheads still pressed together. It was a completely platonic setting and action, but to show the other just how much she mattered to Vanille. Her hand soothed the back of the other’s head, trying to ease her tears away and bring back the smile that could light up a thousand candles.
First came the reunion, then later they could discuss things that happened. But for now, this wasn’t about what Vanille needed to ease her guilty mind. It was about comforting someone she cared deeply for.
"Shh.. it's alright, Serah. It's alright. Everything gunna be alright."

Told You We'd Meet Again
”Were together…”
Vanille held her close, The warmth of a friend helping her to begin calming down. For her Vanille was a treasured friend. A friend from her world at last after all this time. Her heart could burst, she couldn't help but let her feelings flood out. But Vanille was right, she didn’t need to cry. Tears only brought people down. This wasn't a time to be sad, it was a time to be happy. This was a time for them to cheer and celebrate and everything else imaginable! Yet she still was shaking in her friend's arms, those tears of happiness having stained her face.
”Sorry it's just… I haven't seen anyone else from our home but sis since we got here, I guess I just.. I’m happy, it’s a bit overwhelming to finally… see someone”
Her tears were wiped away by her friend, bringing a smile to the pinkette’s face. Eyes gently closed for a moment as she giggled before opening them once more. Vanille was a kind person, she just let her let it all out. Just sit there without question. Despite how silly it must be to be like this. She should be bringing Vanille to meet her sister again, she should be helping her to understand this world if she didn’t, letting her know her sister’s current state so she wouldn't be surprised. There were so many things she should be doing and yet in the end all she wanted to do was just be…. Happy. Happy that a friend was here that she was familiar with. Someone from before.
Maybe more would come, maybe Snow would come after all.
But more than anything she was just so…so happy to have Vanille, to have a great friend like her here.
She was happy, and that felt great.
She smiled, that oh so familiar smile, that Vanille would be familiar with. A smile that could light anything up, a smile that drove others to keep going.
But for Serah it was just a smile, just that she was happy, she was oh so happy. Finally she could look up to her friend and just… well smile, she could let the happiness she felt simply show in fullness as she looked up to Vanille.
”Thank you Vanille… you really are a great, wonderful friend you know? I’m so happy to see you again”
She took a deep breath and gently let it flow out, she was stable now, she could maintain herself without breaking down from her relief, her joy.. Everything. She could focus now on what she needed to thanks to her friends' comfort.
”But Vanille…. We should focus on you. If you don’t mind me asking… How long have you been here? What… is the last thing you remember before coming…?”
Something they were both good at, worrying about other people instead of themselves….
❝ But no matter what happens, we need to keep our dreams alive.❞
❝ Let's run away... ... ... ... Ciao!❞
She listened intently to the other's joyous sobs, the small frame of Serah's shoulders shaking in Vanille's grasp. It was alright - Serah could tremble and let all those emotions out. Vanille had always been a safe space for other's to open up to and express themselves regardless of any situation. It warmed her heart to know she'd been so well missed and well thought of. If it hadn't been for trying to bring comfort to her friend, Vanille likely would have found the tears of her own heartfelt woes staining the other's cheeks as well.
She maintained her composure, instead, and let the other calm down, and bring her tears to a halt. Would Fang have cried upon seeing Vanille's warm face again? Probably not, if anything, it would have been Vanille that let loose the tears like canonwork.
"I understand. I'm sure it must be difficult to lose everyone you once loved and knew upon coming to this new world. I'm also sure, knowing you, that you've made many friends here already."
She let out a soft laugh, leaning back, away from the hug, but hands maintaining their loose grip on the other's shoulders, as if trying to absorb the other's stress and worries away and make them Vanille's very own.
Serah's question hung in the air, like a noose around Vanille's throat. The stool under her feet kicked out, the orangette crashing down with the reality of the situation. Reclaiming one of her hands, she poked at her cheek in momentary thought, considering how she should proceed with answering the other's question and how to address the past as well. She didn't want to overwhelm herself nor her friend, thus, it'd be better to just keep things simply and hold the guilt onto herself until she felt they were in a better situation to discuss it.
"I've only just gotten here. I haven't had a chance to do anything. One moment, my hand was within Fang's and we saved Cocoon, and the next I'm wakin' up here. The waves.. That's the first thing I experienced here. The sound, the scent..."
The hand that still remained on the friends face gave a gentle stroke, tilting her head just the slightest bit in admiration towards Serah.
"Last I remember, everything turned out okay back home. Now I'm here. I wonder if I died, but if I did.. where is Fang? You said only your sister is here. Is Lightning doing well?"
What else did this world have in store for a misfitted female? Could Vanille be considered as such? She always did what she believed to be for the best for others... except she kept the truth of why everyone became l'Cie. Why Serah had gotten the brand, why Serah turned to crystal statis, and why they all endured the trials that they went through. Now was not the time. Instead...
Standing up, Vanille leaned over, reaching down and grabbing the other's hand, tugging at her in a childish manner with a grin across her face, trying to get the pink haired girl to join her.
"You know, I have always wanted to collect shells on a beach. Never got the chance before. Care to join me and tell me about this world?"
