Renitra was studying her lance and her Astrometer lost in thought and reflection. She knew both schools, one of war and the other of magic were practically completely incompatible with each other. Yet she had the silly idea of using both in her battle with Zenos yae Galvus weeks ago, only to get her rear end handed to her, and her becoming violently sick in response to her failure. She was 0-4 against the power drunk Crown Prince of Garelmald and she was looking to try and recover her pride as the Warrior of Light… if she could continue calling herself that. Her encounter with Alexander Sorel had caused her to doubt herself heavily
Renitra eventually opened her eyes. An idea came to her. The Red Mages of Gyr Abania used both White and Black magics, in tandem with a rapier. What if Renitra could fashion a style similar to it. Her lance, and Astral magics… yes she could envision it now. But she had no finer understanding of how Red Magic worked. No basis to use. If she knew someone who specializes in Red Magic, it would be a different story. She did become acquaintances with a Miqo'te from Gyr Abania who called himself a Crimson Duelist but she never fully finished her training as a Red Mage under him. But he wasn’t in Zephon.
Renitra did manage to find a clue a day later. There was a Miqo’te in Provo. Unfortunately, Renitra was very hasty in gathering her intel and had set off to find them. If she had waited for more intel, she thought they would be gone. If she did wait, she would have been very surprised at what she would have found out…
Renitra rounded the corner to the marketplace hoping to find the Miqo’te mage and ask for their help. Her eyes scanned the stalls trying to find something that resembled a Miqo’te. Coerul Ears, a tail, thin but tall pupils in the eyes. Anything. But there was a massive crowd. She was looking for a needle in a haystack

In the few days she had spent in Provo, Y’Shtola had learned to appreciate the bustling streets almost as much as a quiet café. Almost being the keyword. She would rather enjoy some time in the company of a warm cup of tea rather than amidst the crowd, but she had gotten used to it in other places, so this was not so much different. What was different was the people inhabiting the Star, as well as their Aether. Her keen Aethersight allowed her to distinguish the locals from those who came from beyond the rift, like her. Now that she had found something to channel her aether with, at least.
She had not found a proper rod yet, but at least the bone staff she was using worked well enough for her to be able to see and channel basic spells. She had traded it to an artisan in exchange for her healing magic, as the man’s brother was terribly ill but did not wish to go to the Rising Stones - an all too familiar name in Shtola’s ears, but that she was not yet ready to look behind, although it was hard to keep her curiosity at bay.
She had just finished her tea - fortunately, she had some gil on her and someone in the city had been kind enough to help her change her money, taking a few coins in return. She did not have enough for a proper rod, but at least she could afford food and a bed for a few days. Then there was the matter of finding a job as a blind magician, but that was easy enough: once she had managed to channel her aether properly, she could see, gather requests, and hunt a few creatures. Only after taking a couple of days to recalibrate her use of magic entirely and adapt to the feeling of this different kind of aether. She was still not back to her usual self, but she could do with what she had.
After paying for her beverage, she walked out of the café and then started to walk towards the nearest Alchemist. She needed to buy a few potions in order to be sure she could handle the few monsters she would have to hunt later on. For a moment, she was distracted by an all too familiar soul. Dark and overflowing, and incredibly imposing. She would usually link that soul to one person in particular, but considering she was not in her homeworld she would not jump to conclusions. The sight of that very specific soul in the far distance, though, was distracting enough for her to end up bumping into someone.
She stumbled forward for a moment, then leaned onto her staff for balance and eventually turned around to face another soul - incredibly familiar yet somehow unfamiliar all the same. “My apologies, I did not notice you.” she said with an apologetic smile on her lips, still examining their soul, animated by curiosity. Why did this person look so similar to Alexander? Yet it was not him. Could this person be the Warrior of Light from another shard?

Renitra sighed softly in frustration. She was about ready to give up the search but in her distracted stumbling about she knocked into someone. If Y'sthola felt what she had crashed into she would have made out the tortoiseshell armor Renitra wore. Firm and warm. But a sense of coldness and brittleness from its endless use.
Renitra looked at the Miqo'te and stared transfixed. “Seven hells… Y'sthola!?” She looked as if she saw a ghost. Immediately she shot her hand out to check something on Ysthola’s person but stopped. “No… it can't be… you're not the one I know. It's impossible. Last I saw you, you were almost to Thal’s domain thanks to that Garlean monster…” she shook her head. “You're from HIS version of Eorzea aren't you. The one where that drunken lout Alexander was Warrior of Light. It's the only answer..” she withdrew her hand. “It's clear my presence near you is an ill omen… I do not deserve it.. I don't wish for what I thought was a friend to denounce me as nothing more that Illberds kin… a Crystal Brave…” she looked around expecting Alexander was lurking about ready to try and strike her down.
She eventually sighed. “I heard there was a sorceress in the area… I assume they meant you. I had come to see help in something… I can't in good conscience ask it of you… we are from different versions of events. I've already caused too much of a scene with Alexander…” Even if he was a drunkard who spoke ill of her in their encounter, she felt bad for it nonetheless. “I can't in good conscience…” she trailed off. “It feels wrong…” she tried again before groaning and holding her head in her hands. “It just feels wrong to talk to you… please don't take offence. It's just… I've known you for a good while. We've fought together against Primals… against the Empire… and now you're here, but you're not the you I know. Your a different you… it just… it feels like we're strangers to each other once more. And that we would consider each other insane for our stories and memories…”

In hearing the woman call her name, Shtola raised an eyebrow. “Yes?” But before she coild even ask the person’s name she started ranting about gods-know-what. A Garlean monster, someone’s version of Eorzea, Alexander. An ill omen, Crystal Braves, and then something about her being a sorceress and a different version of herself. The miqo’te furrowed her brows in a confused and somehow worried expression, attached her staff to her back and let the woman finish her rant with her arms crossed. When finally the woman went quiet, Shtola waited a few more seconds, then gave her a soft smile.
“Alright. First and foremost, breathe. I did not get half of what you said.” she suggested before letting her arms fall down to her sides. “Second. Different versions of events, what do you mean exactly? We are both in a Star that’s not ours, aren’t we? It is already something we have in common.” She shrugged. She did not truly care, to be honest. She had done this before. “And for the record I haven’t heard of the Crystal Braves for a few years, now. Or Ilberd. And if the Alexander you mentioned is the one I have met, then… yes, I’m probably from the same place as him.”
She sighed, then crossed her arms. “Now, let it out. Whine, cry, scream, do what you want and let that mass of confusion, frustration and I-don’t-know-what-else out. Then, we can start again from the bottom. Who said you cannot be friends with two versions of the same person? I have done that before.” Eventually, she smiled softly again. “I have only been here for a few days. We can settle for a trade. I help you with whatever you need, and you can tell me more about this… Zephon, was it? You look like you’ve been here for quite a while, now.”

That sounded like Y’sthola. Common sense and practicality. She took the breath as instructed and stared long and hard at her. “…I don’t know where to begin… I guess where I last saw you. The last I saw you, you were bleeding out at the hands of Zenos yae Galvus. Krile saved your life…” she started. “At least that’s my version of events. And given you know Alexander, you probably remember something similar. Only it was he, not I who engaged the forces of Garelmald across Ala Mhigo… and beyond…” she sighed. “I didn’t start on a good note with him… to be honest, I dislike him. Mostly because he accused me of being a Crystal Brave. I am nothing like them. At least… I think I am…”
“As for the whole different version of events… I’m also from Eorzea. Only in my world, I’m what Alexander is. The Warrior of Light… or was anyway… ever since I arrived here in Zephon I began to second guess myself. I even found Zenos yae Galvus here, and engaged him in battle, believing that if I could win, I could return home. But what he did to Krile… the horrific things she had to go through because of HIM… it’s given him the power of a voidsent!” She started to outline her recollection of her fight with Zenos in Provo ending with her slumped over a barrel in defeat. She chose not to add her upset stomach after the fact. “I beat him once… as himself. But as Shinryu, I failed. His power ripped a hole through space and time. That’s how I ended up here.”
“I-I-I’m sorry… I probably should have been a lot more coherent and in order too. I kinda went here, there and everywhere… it’s been on my mind for too long. Everything. The Dragonsong war, Ala Mhigo, Doma… I’ve had trouble talking to people about it. Back in my world, the You there has tried to ask me about it. But i always refused to speak about it… I felt…it just… I felt I was disappointing my friends in thr Scions by coming off as weak. You know?”

Shtola kept quiet and listened to the woman's half-rant all the way until she confessed she feared disappointing her friends. "Well, first and foremost, take another deep breath. In, and out. Then, if your Scions friends are one tenth as understanding as the ones I know, then you have no way of disappointing them. And even if you did, you would have plenty of ways to recover." she began. "As for Zenos almost killing me, that has happened in my homeworld as well. ‘Ah, a magical barrier.’, he said. ‘Alas, it will not save you.’ and he proceeded to crush it and cut me down. Etched into my mind as if it happened this morning. That, and the Dragonsong War, and the liberation of Doma, and Zenos in Ala Mhigo… they are yet another few things your world and mine have in common." she said, nonchalantly, waving slightly her hand left and right as if she was bothered by a fly.
“Zenos with the power of a voidsent is also not news to me. His Resonant whatnot has turned him into an Ascian in all but name.” She chose not to specify unless otherwise asked, but she would not be surprised should the former Prince be able to cheat death indefinitely, as long as he had a body to possess. She shrugged. “As long as he does no direct harm to me, he is none of my concern at the moment. As I said, I have only been here for a few days and need to get used to this new Star and the flow of its aether before I can be of any use to anyone, especially until I have found a proper rod.” She tapped a couple of times on the ground with the bottom of her bone staff.
“Going on. As for you being the Warrior of Light, it is the very reason why I have stared at you all along. Your souls have something in common, although I could not quite grasp what exactly. Now I do. It might be Hydaelyn’s blessing or your common origin. That said.” She extended her hand towards Renitra. “Nice to meet you, I am Y’Shtola, as you may know. May I ask for your name and treat you to a nice cup of tea? There is a cozy café not far from here.” She would not tell, but since she had just seemed to ‘see’ Zenos not far from them, it was probably not the best of ideas for them to stay in the open, especially considering how deeply traumatized the girl was because of him.

“... As long as I'm not… being a nuisance to you…” Renitra said. She tended to use this statement slot to her friends in the Scions back in her world. She had even said one to a storyteller on the Dawn Throne in the Azim Steppe which both storyteller, and her companion at the time, Lord Hien of Doma found to be both adorable and funny.
Renitra's cheeks blushed scarlet as she numbly introduced herself to this reflection of her friend. “My name is Renitra Starspear .. I'm a Lancer… from Gridania.” She mumbled softly “My father is from Doma and my mother hails from Old Sharlayan. Mum claims her parents once served on the Forum. But I do not know if that is good, or what it means…” she admitted. “As I said the first time, I heard there was a Miqo’te who was skilled in magic. I did not expect it to be you. My intention was to seek wisdom. I use the Lance, and an Astrometer...” As she said this she showed Y’sthola her two job crystals. Dragoon and Astrologian. “I want to use them in tandem, similar to the Red Mages of Gyr Abania… or like…” she gulped. “Alieise… she apparently learnt how to use a sword and magics…" She remembered that Gyr Abanian Mi’qote who trained her had mentioned he had trained Aliese.
She sighed as she finally sat down by a table with Y’sthola. She didn’t know what else to say. But then she felt like she had to admit something. “I feel my wish to do so is very selfish. My wish was to meet Zenos again and use both skill sets as one to win. To finally win and go home. Everyone is waiting for me back home… I promised everyone I’d come home. I can’t let them down… Not Rauhban, not Krile… hells, not even Lyse… even if I acted like an actual beast to her… she didn’t deserve the flak and the rudeness I gave her…”

At the girl's words, Y’shtola sighed. “I would not have offered to help had I not wanted to.” she declared before tapping on the ground a couple of times with the end of her staff. She then listened to her introduction and slightly raised her eyebrows when the Forum was mentioned, without uttering a word as the Warrior started to talk about her fighting skills and her wish to join the two arts.
After sitting, the blonde clearly stated that she wanted to go back home. Shtola did not like having to be the bearer of such news, but she could not let the girl live in a dream. “I am sorry for what I am about to say, but you must know. As far as I understood, there is no way back - I am still looking for one nonetheless, but that is another matter. There is a slim chance that the Zenos you know is somewhere on this Star, but I firmly believe that taking his life would not grant you the ability to go back. Although he may have had the strength to send you to Hydaelyn in the past, he would probably have lost a fair amount of his power once he arrived here. As an example of this, I have found out that I cannot cast spells unless with a proper tool. Take away my rod, and I am completely useless - wits and knowledge aside. This inability has caused me a fair amount of trouble in these past few weeks, and I would not be surprised should you find difficulty in channelling aether as well.”
She sighed, then rested her head on her hand, and her elbow on the table. “I cannot help with swordsmanship, but I can help with magic. I have not trained under any red mages, but I believe I have understood their ways at least to a certain extent. I have studied a few of their techniques. So. First and foremost, you need both a weapon and a spell catalyst, which I believe you may have already. Then, you need to be able to focus on both at the same time: to channel your magic from the catalyst to the weapon, or to shape your magic in a way that complements your weapon. As for a lance…” she tapped with the staff on the ground a couple of times again, with a pensive expression on her face. “Perhaps something akin to a starshower?”

“No… way… back..?” Renitra's face turned deathly pale. “No… it can't be… I promised them… surely there is a way Y’sthola… just because you say there is no way… there's no way that we KNOW.” This sounded like an argument Alphinaud would have said. “Oh hells, I sounded like Alphinaud for a moment … he would have teased me if he heard it.” Her face was flushing red again. She was adamant in her wish to the point she will refuse to accept facts.
She clenched her fists trying to clear her mind… only for her armor to rustle and with a cheerful squeak, Oleg popped out and jumped onto the table. Upon seeing Y'sthola, Oleg assumed it was Renitra's version of her and was extremely happy to the point he started bobbing about and shuffling his feet. The distraction caused Renitra to giggle. “Oleg…” she said softly. She looked to Y'sthola and apologetically explained herself. “This is Oleg, my pet Meerkat. He doesn't understand this world. Or that you're not the Y'sthola of my world. He just thinks you're Y'sthola and that's good enough for him. He's doing his happy dance.”
Oleg continues his little happy dance as Renitra verbally stumbles to come to the next point of her reason for coming. “So um… the obvious would be like a VerMalefic and a VerBenefic..” she began. Malefic was a basic astrology spell for damage while Benefic was a basic healing spell. “What if… I don't remember if you know how a Planimeter or Astrometer functions but what if I used it like a Garlean Magitek Bit?” she suggested. “For what it's worth I do know a few basic spells from Conjury and Thaumaturgy… you know. Stone, Wind, Fire, Ice and Thunder… nothing more than that. Probably irrelevant…”
Eventually Oleg stopped his happy dance and stood on his haunches watching the conversation.
