II. PERSONA
Before her years of hardship with Shinra, Ifalna had been a bright and inquisitive young woman from her youth--always asking questions. Perhaps it had been her nature as one of the last living Cetra during her childhood. Her parents always answered her questions about their duties to the planet and what it entailed. It blessed this young woman with the knowledge passed down to their dwindling generations until she was suddenly the only one left with these secrets and the burdens of it. Ifalna felt her duties keenly as the last of her kind, and she did her best to fulfill them from her own little corner of the world.
Beneath the veneer of her heritage still rests that kind and positive woman that attempted to make the most of what she had and to not allow her personal sorrows show outwardly. This trait of hers truly shone after she had been kidnapped along with her daughter by Shinra in their desire to use them both as the last of the Ancients. Ifalna would distract her daughter with fantastical tales of the adventures they could have, or speak to her of the tales her own mother had passed down to herself about the planet and the secrets of the White Materia.
Ifalna became a selfless mother devoted in doing everything she could to spare her daughter the pains of the experimentations she went through. It did not matter to her as long as Aerith remained as safe as possible, and so she always did her best to maintain a happy persona and facing any tribulation thrown at her with a kind smile and kind words. Underneath that kindness remained a stubbornness and determination to save both herself and her daughter--Aerith most of all. Ifalna would always do what she must to protect those precious to her even at the cost of her own health and safety.

III. HISTORY
Born within the relatively quiet area of Icicle Inn, Ifalna was one of the last of the pureblooded Cetra as her kind and dwindled down through the centuries. This new modern world seemingly had no need for the stewards of the planet moving forward, but she grew up with the passed down tales of her people and the secrets that the planet itself still continued to harbor. Her own parents taught her everything they could so she knew about her heritage and what needed to be done should ever the calamity from the skies ever became a threat again. Her parents passed away when Ifalna barely reached her own adulthood, which left her with the White Materia--a sacred piece of her heritage and the key to keeping the planet safe.
The young woman continued on with her life as peacefully as she could--tending to the departed souls that would whisper their thoughts to her and listening to the will of the lifestream that pulsed all around her. When Shinra discovered the knowledge of her identity and that she was the last living Cetra many overtures were made to her to have her come to Midgar. Should she not wish to share her knowledge with those that could benefit from them? Her knowledge of the planet and people would ensure an ease of life for all others that shared their home after all. Ifalna refused each and every time, but she knew they would not extend their patience to her forever.
The former head of Research and Development of Shinra eventually came to her doorstep in search of knowledge and atonement for his part in skewing the truth of the Ancients and for his experiments after finding Jenova. Ifalna did not have the heart to turn someone away who so earnestly wished for forgiveness and the truth of her people. And so Ifalna agreed to share her wisdom and stories with Professor Gast Faremis in the hopes that perhaps it would lead to a greater outcome with time. She explained to him the true nature of Jenova, the Weapons that planet created for self-defense and the capabilities of the Cetra. Over time Ifalna found herself falling in love with Gast and agreed to marry him when he asked.
In a short year, Ifalna gave birth to their daughter whom they named Aerith. It seemed as if she would be able to continue on the traditions and teachings of her people through her daughter and with the love and support of her husband. Happiness had always seemed a fleeting thing for Ifalna, though. Barely a month after Aerith had been born did Shinra arrive upon her doorstep to bring her back within them by force this time. Apparently, they had been waiting for this opportune moment with now two Cetra to have within their custody instead of one. Her husband attempted to intervene, but he was murdered before her eyes as Ifalna was taken along with Aerith back to Midgar with force.
At first, Ifalna and Aerith were treated quite well--almost like guests. Whatever the word they used, she knew they were captives to be used at Shinra's whim. The two were given a comfortable, furnished room and all that entailed were questions into the true nature of the Cetra and about the fabled Promised Land--the true goal of Shinra. Ifalna told them little to the best of her ability, but Shinra's patience with her came to an end when Aerith awakened into her powers as a Cetra. And so Hojo gave her a proposition--allow him his experiments or he would turn to conduct them on Aerith instead.
And so for seven years Ifalna endured in silence as Hojo conducted his experiments without much care to the impact this had on her health. Each and every day she was brought forth from the room she shared with her daughter to endure the needles and more physically harmful experiments in order to keep Aerith safe. Ifalna did her best to keep her mind open for a potential escape route, and one presented itself when she begged a researched named Faz Hicks for painkillers because it had become too much for her to bear. The man soon developed an obsession with her, and Ifalna did not hesitate to use this to her advantage in her desire to escape.
And so a plan was brought forth--Faz would whisk them away in the cover of a monster attack. Ifalna was meant to meet up with him in the Sector 4 Slums, but Ifalna fled even from him with Aerith. Unfortunately, Ifalna's ill health caught up to her was they made it as far as the Sector 5 train station. Closing her eyes as Aerith ran off to find a doctor, Ifalna soon awoke to a strange new world without her daughter and the White Materia still within her possession.

OTHER CHARACTERS:: Cassandra Amell
ROLE-PLAYING EXPERIENCE:: Almost twenty years now.
HOW YOU FOUND US:: Already a member~!
NOTES FOR CONSIDERATION:: N/A
ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE:: Each breath felt like a weight beneath her breast. Ifalna could not get enough life within her lungs no matter how deeply she inhaled, nor no matter how desperately she attempted to ignore the call. The lifestream hummed beneath her fingertips as it continued to call her forth. It should have been a welcoming and comforting presence to her even within the confines of this steel city, but she had one purpose left to her within the weakened confines of her body. Every attempt she made to lurch forward was met with weakness as her body began to succumb to the illness that now plagued her. If only she had the strength to summon forth the healing winds of the planet beneath her, but the call was so very weak and so was the physical form that housed her soul. All they kept her still going was the desperation to know that her daughter would be safe and that perhaps Aerith would find the doctor she was seeking.
That hope was a futile one even though she wished with all of her being that this failing body of hers would last just a little longer. How could she fall into the comforting embrace of the planet's call without ensuring her daughter would be cared for? Oh, if only she had been able to do this sooner, or if she had been able to foresee this calamity before it had even occurred. Ifalna had done all she could to shield her daughter from the brunt of Shinra's depravity, but it had not been enough. None of it had ever been enough from the moment she had been captured with her husband murdered in front of her eyes. Her eyelids remained heavy as she wished to continue forth on the adventure she had reassured her daughter with--to a peaceful place where no one would ever find either of them.
Her gaze parted as she gained what remained of her strength to comfort her daughter, "Aerith, mommy has to...return to the planet." The tears that spilled forth from Aerith's eyes wounded her bleeding heart further. Very little strength remained to her as she attempted to cling on to life for as long as she could. The call to simply release her soul from this mortal shell echoed from within her very depth, but she could not yet go while Aerith remained before her uncertain and frightened. Her head shifted at the concerned tone from a kind bystander. A woman with lonely eyes and a kind soul, and so Ifalna lurched forth with her remaining strength to grasp the woman's hand, "Please. Take Aerith somewhere safe!"
A brief breath and a heartbeat as the call overwhelmed her entirely. Her hand slipped back as Ifalna shut her eyes and welcome the embrace of the lifestream calling her forth. Her daughter would be safe--she knew it to her very bones. And so she would always remain with Aerith to give forth comforting murmers and reassurances that all would be well.
