II. PERSONA
Aerith is typically a warm and gentle soul who wants nothing more than to see her friends succeed and be happy. She approaches most situations with a smile on her face and can usually laugh her problems away. When it comes to her feelings, she usally keeps them hidden with a smile so that she won't make others worry for her. To make others worry over her would just make her worry even more. It really is a vicious cycle. Aerith is mysterious in that way. She often won't reveal her feelings about something if they are not good feelings.
When it comes to her friends, Aerith is definitely motherly. She does what is needed to keep her friends safe and happy, and this could include sacrificing herself for the greater good. She's not a selfish person and will share what she has with others if it will make them happy. That's honestly her one true goal: to make others happy.
On the opposite spectrum, Aerith can be fierce when she or her friends are threatened. Like a mother bear with its cubs, she will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves. She can also be a bit quirky and strange, but she'd hope that her friends accept her anyway as she is~

III. HISTORY
Aerith never really knew her father, as he was killed barely a month after she was born. Her mother, Ifalna, and herself were captured by a man named Professor Hojo. He was a scientist in the large corporation Shinra, and he proceeded to conduct experiments on them because they were very special... They were the last known Cetra, an ancient race known for their immense magical abilities.
Ifalna did not want such a life for her child, and so the two managed to escape seven years later. Ifalna was, unfortunately, gravely injured in the chase and she collapsed before a woman named Elmyra Gainsborough. Ifalna begged the woman to take care of Aerith, and then she passed away. Elmyra raised Aerith as if she were her own daughter. To say she had a happy childhood would be wrong; but she was at least taken care of and knew of love. But she could never escape the feeling of being lonely. The other children often called her weird, or thought she was strange, and it was difficult for her to make friends. She also knew of her Cetra heritage and knew she was the only one left; it has been and always will be something she struggles with and tries to hide and forget.
But growing up in the slums made Aerith a strong woman. She had no trouble doing things alone, which she often did, much to the chagrin of her mother. The Turks and Shinra always kept a close eye on her. She spent a lot of her time in an abandoned church, tending to a patch of flowers that she planted after removing some floor boards. Little life grew on the surface because of the Mako Reactors. It was because of the Mako Reactor above her that she met one of the most dear people in her life. When she was fifteen, Zack Fair crashed through the ceiling of the church and landed on her flowers. Aerith was not upset, and made a light joke out of the situation. The two started a conversation, and their relationship only grew from there. He was her first love; he took her on a date, and bought her the signature ribbon she wears in her hair. The two kept in touch with cellphones and occasionally seeing each other for the next few years.
The time she spent with him was precious. Shinra had always been interested in her, and their continued interest made her wary to leave but Zack made her feel safe. He convinced her to leave the slums to sell her flowers, but it didn't work as well as they had hoped. Not many people saw an interest in nature. Aerith asked him to write down a few of his "tiny wishes," which he does. Little did she know that that would be the last time she saw Zack.
Aerith had always wanted to leave the slums, leave the city that was slowly becoming more and more polluted. She shared these dreams with a Turk that she ran into as she was selling her flowers. She is told about AVALANCHE and evades some trouble that comes her way. Little has changed in her life, and she continues to write Zack letters, never knowing if he is receiving any of them. Her fears came true when one day, while tending to her flowers, she feels a strong energy from the earth, a sinking feeling in her gut that something has happened to the one she loves. She looks up to the sky and clasps her hands.
As the years passed, Aerith grew more comfortable with going to the surface to sell her flowers. On one particular day when she is selling them, she runs into a blonde-haired blue-eyed boy dressed in familiar clothing. Later that day as she is in the church, that same boy falls through the ceiling and lands in her flowers... It brought back some painful memories, but she pushed them aside with a light smile and laugh. The situation is soon turned serious when Reno of the Turks comes to take her away to Shinra, and she asks Cloud Strife to be her bodyguard.
Thus begins her adventures with the members of AVALANCHE and soon to be hear dearest friends. They infiltrated Wall Market to save Tifa from Don Corneo, and learned of Shinra's plan to drop the Sector 7 plate and blame it on AVALANCHE, killing many innocents and even some friends. While Cloud, Tifa and Barret try to stop Shinra's plans, Aerith is tasked with finding Marlene, Barret's daughter, and leading her to safety.
Aerith is unfortunately captured by Shinra, and in exchange for the safety of Marlene, goes with them. She is taken back to Professor Hojo, whom locks her away again to continue his experiments. It was the last place she wanted to be. But soon, the members of AVALANCHE storm the place and rescue her as well as Red XIII from imprisonment. They all soon flee from Midgar to escape Shinra and hunt down Sephiroth, who poses an even bigger threat to the world.
Their quest eventually leads them to the Temple of the Ancients, a sacred place the Ancients, the Cetra, built to house a powerful Materia. With it, Sephiroth could destroy the world. With it, Aerith could stop him. In a way, she always knew her purpose would come to this. Not wanting to worry her friends, she goes alone to pray in the Temple. Sensing the dangers, everyone rushes after her but ultimately only Cloud can try and rescue her. Already reeling from the massive mindgames that Sephiroth was playing, he appears to attack Aerith as she was praying... But it was revealed to be another mindgame, and Sephiroth descends from the heavens...
It was too late.
A blinding, searing pain... and then white.
All white.
When she opened her eyes, she could see nothing but white. She could feel nothing but a throbbing pain on her back that slowly went away with each passing second. As her eyes adjusted... she found herself beneath the bright sun, lying in the grass and seemingly alone. When she sat up, she saw in the distance a large structure, unlike anything she had ever seen before.
Thus began her adventures in Serenestra.

ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE::
Her lidded eyes burned as a white light poured down on her. Blinking helped subside the pain. When her emerald eyes grew accustomed to the bright light of the sun, the pain on her back soothed from the soft, plush grass beneath her, she began to sit up and gather in her surroundings.
Where was she? What... happened to her?
Vague flashes of memories came to her in pieces. A dark-haired figure, smiling brightly. Sky blue... It was comforting. But then it was gone. A glint of metal, and then the pain came back. She winced and closed her eyes, pressing her face into the palms of her hands.
"Where am I..." she asked aloud, rubbing her eyes and her face. She knew she had been ripped from her home. She knew something terrible had happened to her before she arrived.
Was she dead?
Surely death wouldn't carry this pain anymore. With that thought in mind, she slowly rose to her feet and took in more of her surroundings. There was nature all around her, and that in itself gave her comfort. The trees... the grass, the flowers and the breeze. It was all so beautiful... And then a large, looming structure in the distance. She did not know if it housed friends or foe, but that was the only thing she could see that would be of any help to her. And so she made her way there.
As she moved, the pain and flashes continued to come. The glint of silver turned into a sword. At the end, more silver... Aerith collapsed to her knees. She knew something terrible had happened, and the pain from the sword lingered. She fell to the ground and saw nothing but black.
When she opened her eyes again, it was much easier to adjust. The lighting in the room was dim and lit by candlelight. There was a figure close to her, hooded and robed. Aerith was on her guard but she did not feel threatened yet. When the figure turned, she visibly relaxed. It was a young girl with mousy brown hair and chocolate colored eyes. She held a rag in her hand, which she dipped into a small bowl of water. She soon leaned toward Aerith, smiling and speaking softly, "Ah! You're awake! You must have fallen from the sky... like an angel!"
The phrase soothed Aerith for reasons she did not voice aloud, but she was glad this girl was kind to a complete stranger. If this is how the people were, Aerith could get used to it... She at least knew she was safe for the time being. The girl continued to speak as she drifted off into a light sleep, the anxieties from the day began to melt away, the pain subsiding almost completely.
A start of a new life... a new adventure.
