The Dragonblade
It did not make it easier.
Caius’ cheeks flared up at the suggestion. Yes, that show of affection… -Was-… Part of a romantic partnership, wasn’t it? "Alright," he agreed with a quick nod of his head. "Given time, you will have it". By the Six, was it really wise for him to go into that hot spring now, when he already felt himself growing warm? Because he was very warm. Not in the body, but definitely in the face! And Lumina saying there was "no rush" didn't really make it any better. Sure, taking the pressure off was nice in theory. But he would have to do it eventually. And while he was not unfamiliar with the concept, since he had read books and things, it was still not something he had ever imagined himself doing.
So apparently the rings were waterproofed. He supposed he should have known, but he didn't want to risk anything happening to it. He had come from a world where everything that did, well, anything, shouldn't be let anywhere near water. While he hadn't been a part of that world for a few years now, old habits were still hard to break. "I've never been much of a ring person. Never had a reason to, or even afford to wear one until now," Caius admitted quietly as he turned to Lumina. "But for you, I can learn" came the tease, with a cheekier grin this time as he flashed the ring for her to see once he had summoned it back to his hand. Starting to gain a bit more confidence, though not entirely there yet.
With her agreement, he rose from the water... And instantly regretted it. He had felt the difference between getting out of a shower and getting out before, but somehow this was far worse! Even in this hot and humid climate, he found himself getting unbearably chilly and a sense of panic set in as he felt himself freezing over quite quickly. While he tried to hide this sense of panic from Lumina, the rings probably gave it away. Figures.
Once he speed-walked to the hot spring and near-submerged himself -- something he quickly came to regret as he walked back to a more reasonable distance to ease himself in more slowly, Caius took a deep breath as the cold was quickly replaced with HOT! Really hot! But still better than cold.
"Honestly, I see why people choose to travel the sea as their form of relaxation" Caius admitted softly, steadily sliding himself into the spring to get the rest of the cold out. "The sea air, when the winds are calm, provides the right mix between heat and cold. And there's something about the sea, it's... Calming. I don't quite know how to explain it, but it's helped me fall asleep many a time."
There was a faraway look in his eye as he stared out at that very sea.
"Back in my world, while we didn't go to the beach much, I remember a place called Galdin Quay. A beach resort, essentially, not too different from the one on the Pale Coast. Back when Eos was infested with daemons, Galdin was one of the last bastions that still had enough light to keep the daemons at bay. People used it as a base for trade and hunting operations, but... Back then, my heart had closed to other people. I couldn't trust them. And I barely slept, not since my slumber was broken by a knife breaking the car's glass and almost going through my head. But people didn't brave the beaches, they weren't lit and not even brigands would chance the daemons for long. Whenever I was in the area, I took the risk."
Caius closed his eyes as he took in the sea air, remembering what it had been like back then...
"I towed the line. Took the car as far out onto the sands as I could where there was still just enough light from the resort. Just enough to keep the daemons away. Those were the only times I felt even remotely comfortable sleeping. I worried I may risk the daemons, sure, but I did what I had to. But all I can remember is the sounds of the sea, and falling asleep listening to them. Even now, listening to the waters makes me want to close my eyes and drift off."
He opened his eyes, and looked to Lumina. It had been Caius' way of opening up to his newfound partner, revealing another part of himself that he had always kept out of reach.
"It's... Soothing. I see the appeal."

Light
Rebirth of the Saviour
"Is that a promise then~?" Claire inquires with a blatantly mischievous tone, with all the visual cues to match. From the twinkle in her sea blue eyes, the subtle curl of her lips that smoothed into an earnest smile. In her true form, whilst she tried to be less...eccentric, her body language was still very honest. The adjustment to things seemed smooth on the surface but only because people had become so accustomed to her antics as Lumina, that it'd break character if she showed her old stoicism that Serah associated with her Lightning codename.
Not that differences didn't exist. She'd had years here, just like Caius and that had changed her in ways she couldn't account for. Take the rings for example, "I was never much a ring person myself. There was a me, who could have been, given my love of fashion but it's only because I'm here, in Zephon, that I reconnected with that part of me." there was a soft bit of laughter that followed, she'd learned to laugh at herself, given her own mistakes. "Since you're so willing to learn, I'll be sure to give you the crash course. Serah might be the teacher in this family but I quite like giving pop quizzes."
True enough, as if divine timing was on her side, an opportunity to demonstrate such knowledge presented itself. Their rings and the magical connection was truly a great product. One she'd been strongly considering investing in, outside the crystal supply. She'd become quite in tune with her ring after all. Hiding the panic was sure enough, pointless. Fortunately, she had quite a bit of class, so she'd approach Caius carefully and offer her hand. "This should help a bit. When you're more comfortable you could..." best not to finish her line of thought aloud. What she wanted to say, in a reassuring way, was he could cuddle with her in moments like this. She doubted he was ready for that. There was a conscientious limit to her forwardness, though if he took her hand, he could see the reaction on her ring. As well as feel Lumina's restrained excitement and bubbly sentiments.
Just observing his antics when it came time to get into the hot spring was too much to even feign reservation, causing a more expected, Lumina style giggle fit. Serah wasn't here, so there wasn't a need to hide much. (In truth, there wasn't a need to hide much period but she had pride as a big sister, for however much of that was trampled over her years until she regained her true form. So, she had to make up for some lost time in her own, silly way)
"I understand, I've experienced that calming presence a lot when I was younger. At times, it feels like I've forgotten those points because of tunnel vision. especially as she found herself thinking about her Dad after Caius spoke about the sea. Outside of some shared traits that Snow had, which caused annoyance, she hadn't found herself thinking about her deceased family members. Being on Zephon gave her a lot of time to reflect, as well as be herself. In this moment of recollection, as she listened to Caius' experiences, partly horrified for him, something clicked that hadn't before.
"I hate to admit it but...this part of you, even when all I can think about is how awful that must have been for you, reminds me of my Dad. He had an uncanny ability to chase after and cherish even the most fleeting moments of happiness. No matter how bad things actually were. There wasn't much time for me to get to know him better, less for Serah. Yet now, I understand him a bit better."

Caius Lucis Caelum
“Yes, -dear-, that’s a promise” Caius snarked right back as he fought a blush, uncharacteristic with the pet names that he had read about in books. But that’s why it was called sass. Well, he supposed he was going to have to learn to start calling her by terms of endearment eventually. The concept was completely alien to the mercenary, but he knew of it, and knew it was part of the proceedings. Would he get used to it anytime soon, however? No, probably not. As far as rings were concerned, they were also foreign to him. The only ring he had ever really thought about was the Ring of Lucii, and that was a different matter entirely. This was the first ring he had ever actually owned, or had reason to think about beyond matters of business.
But Lumina claimed that she would give him a “crash course” of sorts, so he shrugged in acceptance. Well, he’d certainly rather learn about rings from the person he was sharing one with, rather than the perpetual awkwardness of learning from Serah. He didn't understand the purpose of why Lumina was offering her hand, but considering their relationship he didn't really have reason to hesitate in taking it. And he did note that her ring's color had suddenly changed...
Once they were in the hot tub and Caius had told his story, he listened as Lumina admitted he reminded her of her father. That was a strange comparison, wasn't it? Comparing one's romantic partner to their own parent. But like how he typically would, she seemed to be calling it from a logical standpoint. Finding happiness in even the smallest things. "I had no room to think about what would make me happy, only what would allow me to sleep so I could survive the next day," Caius admitted quietly. "But the sea breeze and sound does make me happy... As does being here with you."
Well, that was bold. Caius chewed the inside of his cheek after saying that one. But he decided to continue that line of thought regardless.
“It’s still hard sometimes to process that I’m here, alive. As if Etro herself chose to escort me to this world. But I'm glad for it. Being able to have an opportunity to find happiness, even in the smallest places... It's not something I ever imagined myself having."
