"Got a story for me?"
"I mean, I kinda feel like half the planet dying to stop it blowing up at the hands of some space travelling monster you created is a tiny bit of a reason to fret," Violet couldn't help but say rather sceptically, when he tried to alleviate her fears.
"I mean, listen, I wasn't exactly the brightest spark in school all the time. I know what it's like when you get asked a question on an exam and think it might be better to blow up the universe instead, but that sounds kinda extreme..." she said, unable to avoid the joke. She paused though, processing the information. "Wait. So you guys made this 'Concept' that was powerful enough to destroy your entire world? And then you summoned a God even more powerful to stop it that also could destroy the entire world, so you summoned a THIRD God to fight your second God?" she blinked. Okay, so just because they were Ancients didn't mean they were master strategists it seemed. "Wait, that's not what I was gonna ask. I mean, also, you used to create these 'concepts' right? And one of them nearly blew up the planet? So, like, um, just to check, you're not doing that anymore, right? Like, no more Concepts being made? Riiiight?" she asked, just to double check. She felt like it was an important safety check.
"Oh, is that all?" Violet blinked when he told her that they just had to leave their bodies behind to skip between worlds. "Trust me, if we could do that, I'd go jump to a skinnier body every time I was worried I was putting weight on in my thighs," she said. And then she paused, frowning a little. "Wait. Is that something you can actually do? Jump to another body in another reality? So you could see if there's a way off Zephron?" she asked. If Zephron WAS another reality, then surely Hythlodaeus would be able to tell, if he could do that?
After all, for Violet, and indeed, anybody else stuck there, how would they know one reality from another? What if Gaia was just one of the fractured realities he had mentioned? And now so was Zephron? There was a new thing to check. He said fourteen realities. So if she met people from more than fourteen worlds, that theory got sent out the window.
"Right. So... you have a friend who can make people new bodies?" she asked, again raising an eyebrow. "Because, seriously, I can think of some work I'd like done. A whole new body, custom made to order, that'd be awesome!" And then she paused. "Or possibly really creepy," she added, frowning a little.
And then she frowned more as he explained his 'new old friend'. "Wait, your friend fought Emet-Selch? But I thought Emet-Selch was like, your boss and one of the good guys?" she asked. "No offence, but your world is like, super confusing, but I think I'm starting to get it," she said, looking down at her pink paper and the scribbles all over it.
And then he went on to explain the battle. And Hermes still being alive. And a Goddess being at the end of her life. And a Chosen fighting them? And a Rift and Champions and somehow somebody still being 'fractured'. She just stood there blinking, resisting the temptation to tear out the page and start all over again.
"Okay, um, I'm... I'm just gonna write 'there was a big battle' here and move on, because, that's... that's a lot," she said. Not really due diligence as a journalist, but her head felt like it was spinning. Despite the fact he asked her if there was anything else she wanted to ask. And she was still interested, of course, in how his world worked. In how he seemed to be an immortal God or how he summoned Gods or how they made other Gods or all that stuff. It was confusing as heck, but it felt important.
Just, she needed a break for a moment to figure out what she did know.
So, instead, she just leaned in a little, cupping her chin on the backs of her hands. "Soooooooooo, tell me about Solus...." she asked with a smile.

Hythlodaeus chuckled at her joke, then listened to her quick summary. "It's not as easily avoidable and careless as it sounds." he said "Think of it like this. There was a weapon made by men. An emperor found a way to subdue it with a great war that caused many losses, but then wanted to rule upon other men with an iron fist. And thus did the resistance appear.. and cause a complete revolution at any cost." This time he tried to keep it as simple as possible, no names and no details. It was the best he could think of doing. Then she rephrased her questions, and he chuckled once again. "There is not nearly enough aether on this planet to create such a thing as a Concept, or a Primal as strong as Zodiark and Hydaelyn, at least for what I can see. Not even if Emet-Selch was involved, probably. And there are no special crystals in which to contain them, and no paperwork to fill, and... 'no' would be the short answer."
After he told her about the body shifting, he chuckled once again. "To modify your own body, if you were an ancient, you would only need to be able to manipulate aether properly. Yet another completely normal thing I fail at." He smiled cheerfully, even though this thing in particular still bothered him at times. "And no. At least, not me. As for him... well, I believe he would have gone back to our homeworld had there been a way. And if our most powerful sorcerer cannot do that... than none of us could. All I can say is that this does not look like one of the shards of Aetherys - my homeworld. It does not have the... right shade I would say." he corrected himself right away, not wanting to overload the girl with information once again.
He chuckled about the 'friend who can make people new bodies' part. "Well he cannot - not anymore. He used the last bit of the Goddess' energy to make ours." he quickly explained, then he went on about his friend and his fight with Emet-Selch and all the rest. So he ended up chuckling once again. "Indeed, it would be for the best. They have saved their own world and another, by defeating whoever crossed their path. That is a quick and easy summary of what happened in the end."
The next question caught him completely off-guard.
He blushed suddenly and stiffened, opening and closing his mouth a few times while trying to speak - but at first he was unable to. Then he chuckled. "Very curious indeed." he remarked, then he sat with his legs stretched outwards again. "Solus is my best friend. One of the two, at least. Well. The only one in one piece." He sighed softly, with a smile on his lips, soon after. "He was our best magician, and the one and only person who could truly understand what it meant to see. The same way as I, I mean." His smile gradually became sweeter, his eyes softening their expression as if he had him in front of him in that very moment. "When not at work - which was rare, I admit- we would sit somewhere and just... watch the aether swirl and dance all around us. We needed no words or anything else, we just existed next to each other and.. and that was.. perfect."
He sighed. "I know full well he does not feel the same for me. I have made my peace with this aeons ago - I had already done so before the whole thing with the gods had started. And I am also pretty sure he can see the way my soul shifts when I'm with him. But. He is my friend, and nothing more. For better or worse. I am most definitely not one to impose myself on him. Not on serious things, at least. I love to pester him and cause him trouble together with our mutual friend, and ask him to do things for others only because I know he will if I ask him... but that is all. I would help with his job, listen to his problems.. and he would do the same with me. That is all. He is my family."
"Let the light of your soul shine for all to see."

"Got a story for me?"
Violet nodded slightly as he explained the story to her in simpler terms, but she still didn't think he was doing much to really sell this idea to her. She looked at him, with a mixture between sympathy and worry. "I mean, I get it, it's just, it's hard to hear that story, and not come away thinking 'everyone sucks', right?" she said. "I mean, it all started because men made the weapon, right?" she asked. Again, not entirely unlike her own world, when she thought of Shinra and what they did. The SOLDIER program leading to Sephiroth's rampage. Information had been scarce about it, but it had been a matter of record that Sephiroth was now a terrorist, and had attacked Shinra Tower. Or maybe she only knew that because she was in a privileged position with her parents. She never actually had found out how wide spread that news got out.
But she decided not to bring that up right then, as it'd only muddy the issue, and proving her world was just as bad probably wouldn't help her point at all.
"Okay, well, whew, that's a relief," Violet smiled when he confirmed that they couldn't make any more concepts on Zephron. That was for the best. No God-killing planet-destroying monstrosities made by accident any time soon, which was something positive.
He went on to explain how she could have modified her body if she was an 'Ancient', but he couldn't, and neither could she, and it needed 'Aether' anyway. "Uh, yeah, sure, totally normal," she nodded sceptically, because, it was anything but, but she decided not to argue the point too much. He then went on to say that he doubted that Zephron was truly a fractured part of his own world, and she sighed. "Well, there goes another theory up in smoke, I guess," she sighed. And she had thought she had something there. For once, she had thought she had a lead, but it seemed to be another dead end. How could so many people be ripped from their realities and yet not a single one knew why? There had to be a clue somewhere. She just had to FIND it.
He also went on about how no new bodies could be made, and the people in question saved the world by fighting various bad guys, and she just nodded. Right, yeah. Big fight, world saved, that was fine. She wasn't about to report on all of that. She figured it wasn't particularly interesting to the citizens of Torensten. Or to her. She had never been big on action stories, and she felt like she had enough cosmic importance stuff to write about to not worry too much about a later battle.
She laughed a little when he called her question 'curious'. "Hey, you may basically be a god, but you clearly haven't spoken to many teenage journalists," she teased, since to her it was one of the main questions she'd ask. "Far from it for me to tell a guy who's 'aeons' old anything, but I'm pretty sure platonic besties don't usually sit together and watch colours swirl in silence, just to enjoy each other's company. Plus, that whole, playing tricks on each other thing? Sounds like a major crush to me. And besides, it's been Aeons! People's feelings can change. There was this boy in school who I always bickered with. He kept calling me a spoiled princess and prissy and complain about how much perfume I wear and stuff, and god, I HATED him for it. Then, one day, my friend tells me it's 'cause he has a crush on me. And I'm all like, 'ew, no way', but over the year the idea of dating him kinda, sat in my head, and by the time that school year was up, I was totally into him," she explained. And then she paused. "Of course, by that point he'd moved on and was shacking up with my OTHER best friend but y'know, the point is, feelings can change over time. How'd you know he still doesn't feel anything?" she prompted. She might have been looking to solve the greatest cosmic mystery in the universe, but Violet could never resist a little love-gossip.

"I suppose so." was the only thing Hythlodaeus thought of replying with. He did not really want to explain in detail what happened, and the girl would not have managed to understand anyways. So he kept the rest of his thoughts for himself. She was already upset enough, he decided. Then he told her that no more Meteia or concepts could be created, and told her that, had she been an ancient, she could have manipulated her body shape however she pleased. Unlike him. He almost wanted to apologize for making her theory go "up in smoke", as she said, but he simply looked at her with a sorry smile on his lips.
The words she told him next surprised him, and her tease made him chuckle and deny with his head. "I have not." he confirmed, then he went on rambling about Hades and how they spent their time together. And her reply and subsequent question made him sigh. "I... understand what you are trying to say, and I thank you for your kind words, but... I can... literally see it. Or, well.." He sighed, then changed position once again. "My sight allows me to read the intention of others. Or helps me do it, anyways. I'm not entirely sure where my perception ends and my sight begins." he explained. "And although it's been ages... I have never seen his soul turn that specific color. When someone feels something intense, their entire soul may temporarily and slightly change in its hue. I cannot say he does not show love, but... it's not that kind of love. Although he does care, and he cares deeply."
His smile faded for a few moments, as he lost himself in thought. There could have been so many occasions in which his soul could have shifted towards that specific hue, but hadn't. "And the worst part is that I know my soul does reveal my feelings, and that he can see almost as precisely as me. Which means he knows full well I am not over him, even after all this time. But as we have agreed in the past, we both ignore this and go on as the friends we have always been." He muttered in the end, curling up and hugging his own knees. Then he smiled again, sweetly. "But this ability to be at my side even when knowing this.. is one of the things I love about him. If he says he will ignore it and means it, then he will. He is terrible at lying anyways... well, to me at least."

"Got a story for me?"
Violet noted that he didn't go into too much further detail with her read that the version of events he had presented; well, it was all down to humans being awful. She was no stranger to that, really. Midgar was a mess because of Shinra. She was pretty certain of that these days. And even if it wasn't Shinra, it was AVALANCHE. It was humans killing humans and causing problems. They even said the meteor was summoned by Sephiroth, who was a human (wasn't he?). Her world had been dying because of humans being idiots. It sounded like Hythlodaeus's was the same.
Luckily, the conversation moved on, to a topic she was more comfortable with. That was, who loved who. And he began to explain that he could literally 'see' love in people. Which immediately made Violet think about all the embarrassing crushes she had, which made her feel slightly sheepish. She listened to what he said, but she still wasn't sure she entirely agreed.
"Do you ever think that because you can see everything, sometimes, you might misread what you see?" she suggested. "Because, look, I get it. You're an ancient all knowing being who can read emotions and I'm like, eighteen and some rich spoiled brat from Upper Plate One," she said, because she forgot for a moment that he'd have no idea what that meant. "But trust me, even I know love is complicated. There are loads of different kinds of love, but it's all still love. Like, how I felt for that boy back in high school? Totally different from say, how I feel for Genesis, who, oh my god is hot," she explained. "But a celebrity crush and love are different. And the love for one person might be different from love for another person. Just because he doesn't look like you expect love to look doesn't mean it's not love. I mean, have you tried talking about it?" she suggested.
She realised that this was slightly outside her remit as a journalist, but she couldn't help herself. Seeing romance in jeopardy was far more important than a story, right? Plus, if it all worked out, she could have both!
"I mean, I dunno, staying by your side after all this time, it sounds like a kind of love to me," she said. "Maybe not the same love as you have, but love none the less. Friends are pretty easy to come by. He could go find somebody else. But he chose you. Despite knowing how you feel about him. Doesn't that tell you something?" she asked.

Her question made him falter for a moment. Something within stirred. What if she was right? What if Hades..
He killed the thought where it stood.
Or at least, he tried to, but now the spark was lit and he could not help but hope. Which he knew would be a heavy blow if he ever talked to Hades about it.
He sighed. "I am not all-knowing, but.. I have always been used to being right, at least on this." he confessed, without asking anything about what she could have meant with upper plate. She then went on about different kinds of love and he could not help but sigh once again. "I think I understand what you mean. I don't feel the same kind of love for him as I do for our mutual friend, and that is still different from the loce I may feel for other people."
He smiled softly. "On this we can agree. We have chosen each other for life. It has always been the three of us, now the three have become.. well, two and a piece. And said piece doesn't seem to make either of us feel the same as before. They are not the same at all. While we.. we remain unchanged in our souls and minds. We are still the same ones who have chosen each other ages ago. And even if I have been in a limbo between life and death for most of our lives, as soon as I found him it was as if not even a moment had passed. Or better.. it had, but.. but it had not? I am not quite sure how to explain this."
He chuckled. "I mean.. I would probably go with anyone else if I deem the person interesting enough. But that would be entertainment, or at most a connection. It would never be a certainty, unlike.. Solus, was it? We both know that no matter what, we will be there for each other if it's important. I.. I think it might be something more than just love -be it romantic, platonic or anything else. Something deeper."
He smiled to the girl and went back to sitting with his legs crossed. "To think that I would need a 'teenage journalist' to remind me." He brought the back of his hand to his lips and laughed softly. "I suppose I needed to talk about this with someone. And.. I cannot make promises, but if and when I'll see him again.. I will try. To talk about this, I mean."

"Got a story for me?"
Violet cocked her head slightly and smirked. "You're a boy. Of course you're used to thinking you're right. Most boys are," she teased. She wasn't quite being literal. No, she had meant 'all-knowing' in the sense that he could detect emotions and was apparently thousands of years old, but she couldn't resist the playful tease. "Of course, they're usually wrong, but hey, they don't listen to us," she shrugged. Obviously meaning 'girls'. At least in Violet's experience, after all.
She was slightly surprised however that he ended up agreeing with her. Not because she thought she was wrong, but because in her experience, older men did not listen to the teenage girl and her opinions on things. However, she had felt confident in what she was talking about, and he seemed to realise it too, as he started speaking about the range of feelings he had. She had lost slight track of who the mysterious third person was, but she didn't need that to either write about or understand love across the aeons.
"See, being in 'limbo between life or death'," she practically said the quotation marks out loud given she didn't really understand what they meant, "for most of time and he still waited for you, that's a pretty big sign. Maybe there's more to life than what even you can see," she suggested. She did however pause a little, and frown when he suggested it was something 'deeper' than love. "I'm not sure there is anything deeper than love. Love is the ultimate emotion we feel for each other. It doesn't mean it's just romantic or friendly or sexual, it's not just like, lust, or whatever. But love... it's complicated and weird and can come in loads of forms, but I also think it's pretty infinite. Love is a thing that can't easily be defined. Even if you've got super cool aura vision or whatever you call it," she said, waving a vague hand and deciding not to check her notebook for the terminology she had scribbled down earlier.
She laughed a little when he called her a 'teenage journalist', and she had to admit, she hadn't expected to be able to change his mind. He was basically a God, and she was a snobby kid from upper class Midgar. She knew that she was. She tried to be understanding, but at the end of the day, she knew she was posh and spoiled. She hadn't expected to be get through to him, and it made her realise that perhaps she really did understand more about people than she thought. Maybe she was actually good at her job.
"Hey, I'm smarter than I look," she teased when he said that. "And don't say that's not hard!" she added quickly, knowing the impression her blonde hair created. She smiled when he said he couldn't promise, but he'd try. "That's good. You should try. For you, not for me! It doesn't affect me," she reminded him with a smile.

He chuckled in hearing her say that boys often thought they were right, then said out loud his train of thought and eventually agreed with her. He gave her a warm smile. "Perhaps there is." he agreed "Especially now. I did not really stop to think about it, but.. who can say if my eyes work in the same way in a world that is not mine? Who can say if they are precise as before, or less? Or perhaps aether here works in a different way, and considering I can already see shades I had never seen before... it is not unlikely."
He let his gaze wander among the colors swirling in the air once again. "Aura vis-? Oh, the Soulsight." He chuckled, then finally looked at her again as she said she was smarter than she looked. "I was about to say that you do look smart, but I suppose it's unnecessary now." he said chuckling once more. Then he told her he would try - and he meant it. If ever he found a chance, he was resolved to try and speak to Hades about this entire conversation - provided he would not see the girl's article before they could meet again.
"I suppose I'm just.. not used to expressing my thoughts in a way that is different from-" He paused, realizing it in that very moment. "But of course. In music. I could say it all in music. I had never thought of writing for him instead of about him - well, our people and families and friends. Something only for him.. It could work. Love or not, it will be an expression of my feelings and thoughts. It could also help me sort out my own mind and heart. Perhaps what i think I feel might not be exactly.. he interrupted his rambling and looked at the girl with an almost sorry expression. "Forgive me, I should probably stop saying all that comes into my mind out loud."

"Got a story for me?"
Violet hadn't actually meant that there were, perhaps, auras he couldn't see. She had meant it more literally. That he had thought he understood everything when perhaps he didn't. But however he took it, it seemed he was at least willing to consider her point. Which was a start.
And not bad for her ol' ego, either, given she had basically just schooled a God on wisdom. Not bad for a teenager from Midgar.
"Y'know, I've interviewed quite a few people, and I always find, the most ignorant ones are the ones who think they know everything," Violet pointed out. "You gotta be willing to accept there might be more than you know to actually learn, so, uh, good start," she nodded. Okay, maybe she was trying to play up the whole 'teenage wisdom' thing a bit, but she couldn't resist.
"Thanks, I try," she smiled when he told her he DID think she looked smart. That was reassuring. Especially if he could see her 'soul'. You could try and dress smart, act like you were intelligent, but at the end of the day, it was nice to hear that someone who could see who you were on the inside thought the same. Especially since Violet sometimes had her own doubts about herself. Oh, she tried, but sometimes she felt like an inexperienced, spoiled ditz. It was nice to hear that she wasn't.
She smiled as he began to think about using his music, because it seemed obvious. To hear a musician wonder how to express himself was kinda ironic, she thought, but luckily he landed on the obvious answer soon enough. "No, no, keep talking, I think it's cute, hearing you figure it out," she giggled softly. "Writing him a song sounds like a great idea. I mean, of all the people with the talent to express how you truly feel, you're a musician, right? You were basically born for this," she pointed out. In the same way she supposed she was a writer, so she was probably born to write how she felt about someone... one day. But somehow that seemed less romantic than a song. Especially a song from an ancient God...

He nodded at her words. "Of course. Things often change, and to always be up to date on everything is near impossible." He smiled sweetly at her, then his smile widened at her thanks. "Nice work so far, my friend." He said before letting out a soft chuckle. "It will be easier as time goes on."
He then started thinking of a different way, one that he had never tried before, to express his feeling and turn them into music - not for the people to hear, but for him alone. Until he thought he was probably bothering and apologised, although he did not really see annoyance in her. Curiosity perhaps? And some sort of amusement.
"I.. suppose I am, now." He replied to her question. "I'm simply not used to this. I used to be an office worker, you know." He chuckled "But I will follow your advice, thank you." And with another smile he shifted his position once again. "I suppose I needed this. And I am truly glad to have met you. Despite being so young, you have opened my eyes to possibilities I dared not see before."
He sighed. "I cannot help but feel overwhelmed by the mere thought." he confessed "I fear that insisting on this will let him away. And at the same time if my supposed death and many other things did not.. I know I am worried over nothing, but..." He stopped and chuckled. "And here I am, thinking like a child at their first love."
