The moment he stepped outside and felt the cool air, things started to cool down. He wasn't sure how to feel, or even what to think, honestly. A jumbled mess, he supposed. He took a drink and looked at his hand and noted it was still shaking. No, despite everything, he'd gone over the edge. Trying to focus, he reached for that connection, that magic, and found it. Outside, he wasn't so restricted. A simple cantrip, one needed to be maintained. That would do, as he let the heat permeate around him. Keep him from freezing. Nor did he really have a chance to get his thoughts in order, on even what to do or say next. Tifa, the bartender, followed him out. Ah. She asked him if he was alright. "No, I'm really not." He stated simply, and took another drink. No point in divulging any further.
Pulling out his tomestone, Alexander simply decided to cut to the point. He had his magic back, so he figured she was probably just treading a bit more lightly regarding him now. "So what's got you out here?" He remarked, pausing for a moment as he extended the field. He motioned slightly to it. "Heated. No need to stand there and freeze while I figure this thing out." He stated simply, before giving it a sigh. He wasn't in the mood. "Payment, right? Give me a moment, I'm still trying to figure out how GP works." His thumb swiped across the screen as he tried to figure out a payment method. What was it with Sonora and their digital currencies? Gil was simple. Gil worked. Gil you simply handed the jingly shiny coins and they wished you well. He also noted it missed a few times, and he looked at his hand as it still shook. It was at this moment that he noticed he was gritting his teeth, and forced them to release.
It took some finagling, but he was making progress. He'd submitted what financial information he could figure out, and paused for a moment as he grumbled slightly. "How do I tip you?" He asked in simple exasperation, taking another sip. Noctis did say he wanted them all to tip her generously for everything, and he figured he would. He also figured once she had her money, she'd just walk back inside and everything would carry on, and he'd be free to put his thoughts together on... whatever the fuck he'd gone and done now. Maybe he should be thankful that so simple a task gave him something that he could focus on.

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
There was no reason for Tifa to go outside to comfort a man she didn't even know, except maybe that she didn't need to be in there for whatever meeting they were all supposed to be having. It was mostly her caring nature that brought her out here. She knew what being overwhelmed and at a breaking point felt like. Company had helped her when she was at that point, maybe it would help him too.
Alex stated he was not okay, and she looked up at him. To her, he was just a normal guy. Of course, she hadn't known him long enough to get any other opinions of him. Even his outburst before wouldn't be cause for her to understand him, everyone had their moments. He then stated that the field around him was heated, and she stepped into, instantly feeling much warmer. "Thanks." He did have some manners, even if he did just try to put the other girl to sleep.
Tifa wasn't even mad about that anymore, given it wasn't a harmful spell. Still, there were better options than spelling someone. He asked why she was out there, and before she could answer, he started figuring out payment. Waving her hands in front of her, she shook her head. "That's not why I'm out here. I'm just checking to make sure you'll be okay." To some, she was probably being stupid. She didn't know Alex, she didn't know what he was capable of.
He was friends with Noctis though. Even though she had only just met the future king, she trusted his judgment. Therefore, she didn't think Alex would be a threat to her. Besides, she could protect herself. "Kind of seems like you're the odd one out in there, and I kind of know how that feels." When Avalanche was a thing, she was always the one opposed to the things they did. Barrett was pretty over the top in her opinion, so she stayed out of most of the missions.
When she stated she just wanted to check on him, he blinked before simply pocketing his tomestone. She made an observation, and astute one, at that. Not that it was anything other than obvious. "Because I am." He shrugged. "I'm not from their world. I only know Noct because he got stranded in mine." To be honest, it was incredible that Noctis even bought that when it was relayed to him. All he had to go on was Alex's word. For all he knew, he might have been Ardyn in disguise, just trying to fuck with him. "His car broke down in Thanalan. So there he is, wearing all black as he tends to, stranded in the middle of a desert, with a sandstorm on the horizon." In short, Noctis would have died from simple exposure. Nevermind those cyborg soldiers following him.
"So I helped him. Seemed the right thing to do."
He was rambling again. She just wanted to ask him how he was, right? "I'll be fine. I just find it absurd." He quietly remarked, swirling his drink lightly before finishing the last of it. "I've held the fate of all creation in my hands. I've traveled to the edge of the universe and seen the end of countless stars. I've saved every last remaining world; mine, Noct's, yours, from extinction. I can look up at the sky on a clear night and see every light, and know I have paid the blood price to ensure their existence." She was there, she'd heard everything he'd said about Warriors of Light and reincarnation and all that. What difference did it make now? Even so, he had a feeling even if she were to talk, no one would really believe her. He wondered, briefly, if that was part of why she wanted to check in on him. Once that came out, it changed things. Always did, and it was why he'd initially tried so hard to just be an adventurer.
Even if his feeling was correct, what difference did it make now?
Nevermind that it assumed she even believed him.
And he snorted, looking at the ground. Part of him just wanted to smash the glass on the pavement and be done with it. Just some small measure of stress release. With his hands still shaking, he almost expected to drop the glass anyway. "But I can't even handle a teenage boy without losing my shit." Perhaps it was a tacit admission that maybe, just maybe, he'd gone too far, even if it hadn't quite settled in his head yet. Even then, it wasn't like he was like this with them all. Just Prompto. He could handle the twins fine. He could handle Ryne fine. He could handle Gaia fine. Hell, Gaia fought him on everything and he'd still managed to work things out with her. So why couldn't he handle someone around their age? Why was Prompto the lone exception? Still, he looked back to Tifa. "What about you, Tifa? You seemed to fit right in. How're you the odd one out?" He'd admit, he was curious.

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
When Alex stated he was the odd one out and how he knew Noctis, she had to giggle a little bit. "Seems like he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Helping people is the right thing to do." It's what she did, and all her friends did. That's what Avalanche was for, to help the people of Midgar. The way they went about it all though, that was a different story...
As he explained himself, Tifa leaned against a post next to the stairs leading to the bar. So he was a Warrior of Light, huh. She wasn't sure exactly what that meant, but it seemed like he did a lot, but no one ever knew. She wasn't sure if that was something she could ever do, that was for sure. The things people did didn't make her like them more or less, but how they treated others. You could be the hero of the world, but she would still hate you if you were crappy to other people.
Once he finished, she gave a smile. "When you were saving worlds, you knew what you had to do. You had a goal, and you did everything you needed to in order to achieve it. People are complicated. You don't know what they're going through when you encounter them. You don't know that just the littlest thing could set them off." At this point her arms had crossed, but that was mostly because she didn't know what to do with them.
When he turned the conversation on her, she gave a shrug as she looked to the floor. "Here on Zephon I just work and "go with the flow" as they say. Back on my world though, I was usually the one with a different opinion. The group I was with wanted to save the planet from having its energy drained. Sounds great in writing, but the way they went about it was wrong in my eyes. So, I was the odd one out there." It was kind of nice to be able to talk about Avalanche, since there was no Shinra here.
Saving worlds was easy. Talking to people was hard. Alex rubbed the bridge of his nose at how much he hated that her explanation made sense. "I guess. You'd think it'd be the other way around." He grumbled. But listening to her story, well, she was the opposing viewpoint. The balancer. Some might have called her the naysayer, but... "Let's see if I've been paying attention about you so far. If I have to guess, this group wanted to get violent. You didn't." He understood it, if not supported it. Alphinaud had always been the diplomat, and if he could talk whoever down, then Alex was more than happy to let him. A spar was one thing, but once you actually started swinging your weapon, there was no going back, and may the consequences be upon your head.
But her being the opposing viewpoint. It was enough to get a small chuckle out of him, at least. "Still, that explains why you're staying out here instead of being at the Cool Kids Table." She knew he'd be fine, right? Though that was followed a quick sigh, and a feeling of fatigue starting to kick in. He looked at his hands. The shaking was getting better, at least. So he focused on Tifa, best he could. That was her advice, was it? Go with the flow? "Unfortunately, I tried going with the flow at first. Some blond prick wrecked my shop with his giant sword. It's been a disaster ever since. That never worked for me, I'm afraid." Gods, he couldn't even muster the energy to rage at that asshole. He'd put that homewrecker in a wheelchair if he ever got his hands on him. Gods, that didn't even sound enthusiastic in his head.
He blinked for a moment before he just exhaled. Between the Rising Stones, shit with the Dragonblades, finding that Homewrecker, Prompto, all of it. He was coming to a realization; his life was a mess. He wasn't really sure where to even begin on how to get everything back up and running. Sephiroth was inadvertently helping with the Stones, but that was only until he could get a better offer. He still had no leads on the Homewrecker. Prompto, well he'd gone and lit that all on fire and he wasn't even sure how he could even hope to put that out, now.

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
Tifa watched and listened Alex's frustrated response. "You'd think so, but people are complicated. It's what makes us unique I suppose." No two people were alike, and you had no way of knowing what you were getting yourself into, even when you just wanted to have a chat with someone. Human life was a mess, and people being brought to this world just made it messier.
Alex was then talking about her and she gave a nod. "That's right, and they did get violent. Took out almost an entire sector just to take out the machines sucking out the energy. The amount of lives lost at what we did..." That memory still haunted her to this day, especially since the whole thing really didn't change much. To be fair, she felt as though it had made things worse.
"The Cool Kids Table? I guess that's one way to describe them." Tifa gave a shrug and wrapped her coat around herself a little tighter. "I figured I'd be a good host and check on you since everyone else stayed and could help each other out." She had always had motherly instincts, and maybe that came from being raised mostly by her father. She had to take on that feminine role.
The next thing he said made her eyes go wide. No. No way. This couldn't be the guy. There was no way the owner of the building Cloud and Sephiroth smashed to pieces just happened to come into the bar. With Cloud upstairs sleeping in the spare bedroom. Regaining her composure, she gave a small smile. "Oh man, that's terrible." That was all she could muster. He would know she knew something, she was terrible at hiding her emotions. This wasn't the time or the place to discuss that though.
Of course he'd notice. In fact, it quickly became apparent that he'd noticed, considering he gave her a deadpan stare as he simply started to tap one foot against the pavement. It also became apparent to him that Tifa could not hold her cards to her chest to save her life. The moment her eyes widened and she caught herself, he'd figured it out. He also made a mental note to challenge her to Triple Triad later. There was absolutely no way he could lose with her reacting like that. Still, he tried to will the fury, the outrage, and simply couldn't. "We'll talk about it later. I really don't have the energy to get up in arms about it right now." More important things, Tifa had been nothing but kind, that sort of thing. But he definitely made a note of it. He'd be back some other time at the absolute most. He had a lead now, he'd die before he let it go.
For now, focus on the good. "Still, your concern is appreciated. Truly. I'll be headed back in, soon. I'm not going anywhere. Those two got dragged out of everything they've known, only recently found each other, and now have a lead on their loved ones." Being alone in this world was not a pleasant experience. He knew that one all too well. "I would see them all happy and reunited, if I can." He shrugged, which then brought a focus on the bad. Namely, the fact he'd lit everything on fire with Prompto. He sighed a bit as he added on. "Which... Prompto is a good kid. Don't let the stupid shit I said cloud that over." He still needed to figure out how the hell to make things right with him. He doubted an apology and some hot cocoa was going to be enough this time.
He'd figure something out. He always did. The problem then just making sure it didn't happen again down the line. That, he had no idea what to do. So he shifted his focus again, as best he could, looking up at the clouded sky. "But yeah, the Cool Kids Table. They're from Eos, we're not." Noticing her wrapping her coat around her, he simply sent her a small gust of heat. He'd have to keep a closer eye on the field, not let his mind wander. He also wondered for a moment if he should. It was only a moment though, he quickly decided that, what the hell, might as well shoot his shot. "You know, like you said, you and I really are the odd ones out, here." His gaze drifted a little as he turned towards her. Pointing back inside with his thumb, he shrugged. "Once we rescue their friends, there's probably gonna be a celebration with you and I standing awkwardly in a corner while they go on about the good times, and we'll have no idea what they're talking about."
There were a few places he'd heard about, and he'd heard rumors of a stadium in the area, too. Sonora always put him on edge enough that he never really stuck around to really explore the city. "So, instead of being caught in that, what do you say once we're back, you and I go for a private night in the city? Make our own fun?" And let them have theirs, without him there to make it all terrible. Worst she could do was say no. Probably.

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
Oh, he noticed all right. Tifa couldn’t meet his eyes, and instead watched his foot as it tapped against the pavement. He was mad, she could tell. In a way, she was glad this was happening now since Noctis and his friends were inside if Alex were to react and go after her or anything. The man in front of her was still unknown to her, she had no idea how he would react. Luckily, he also decided to save that talk for later. ”Right.” It had been quite the night for him already.
It seemed as though he had calmed down a little because he was stating he was going to head in soon, and that he did still want to see Noctis and Prompto find their other friends. ”I do too, now that I know what’s going on. I had no idea any of this was happening, just that you all decided to show up tonight.” She had been glad for the business, but was a little upset about how it was going so far. Hopefully now it could get back on track.
Alex was then complimenting Prompto and Tifa had to nod. ”He seems shy, but very kind and loyal. We all say things when we’re mad that we’re not proud of, it happens.” She had once or twice in her life as well, no one was perfect. Prompto did have some work to do when it came to people, especially women. Some guys were like that, shy and awkward. Cloud had has days as well, but she always knew who he really was.
Tilting her head, she gave a confused look. ”I can only assume Eos is where they’re all from originally?” That was a given Tifa. Next thing she felt was more heat and she gave Alex a small thanks. He was then talking about how Noctis and his friends were going to have a get together and talk about old times. She had to agree, but didn’t blame them, since that’s exactly what her and her friends would do too. Though, she was caught a little off guard at the next statement. Rolling her eyes, she started towards the door.
”Don’t hold your breath, Warrior of Light. You’re still on my shit list.” She stated as she slipped back inside.
Wait. Now that she knew what was going on? Alex stared at her as she continued on with an open mouth, as the words started to just drown themselves out. Slowly, the wheels were turning in his head as he came to one conclusion. Tifa didn't know. After all the talk of doing something illegal, and it turned out she didn't know. She was just some random stop. But they were supposed to meet here. They were all discussing this with someone who wasn't supposed to know. He thought a moment to his spells. Maybe he could just... put her to sleep or something. They were outside or--shit. Maybe Doom? Maybe he could just change the command to forget the past hour instead of accidentally killing her or something. Losing himself in his head gave him quite the obvious thousand yard stare, which probably just came off like he was blowing her off.
Instead, he could only come up with the sole thought of Noct. Why. There was some small comfort that came to him as he realized this was probably always going to be a disaster, but it still didn't take away all of the guilt. In fact, it was only when she rolled her eyes at him that he finally focused again. "Yeah?" He smirked. Oh boy, he was on her shit list. "Get in line." Was all he said with a snort and a shrug. It was only when he stepped back inside as he felt the magic he'd been so effortlessly channeling fall away, and he couldn't help but narrow his eyes at Tifa in a glare. Could he live without his magic? ... Kind of. He could live in the sense that he could defend himself, sure. But going day to day? Probably not so much.
And then he realized he was back inside. And Noctis and Prompto were off elsewhere, which only helped lend some weight to the amount of just how much he had fucked up. Again. Apology cocoa would not do it this time. Neither would cupcakes of sorriness. He looked at the floor for a moment, keeping his gaze down before inhaling through his nose. He just. Needed to play it cool for now. He could apologize to Prompto later. In private. Probably get shot, in all honesty. That little reach behind his back hadn't escaped Alex's notice. Maybe the field hadn't been so bad an idea. "So uh," He looked up and away, focusing his gaze upon the wall. "What'd I miss?" He just, kept staring at the wall. Yeah, that was a nice wall. Really nice paint, too. And he just stood there, awkwardly.
