The Dragonblades
"Pretty much, aye" Caius answered in affirmative as he finished with setting up his line and casting out once again. "They are each different in the sorts of technology they use, and their cultures. Torensten has a culture that idolizes heroics, which is why all these powerful offworlders aren't a problem for them so long as they're not attempting to cause harm. Provo is a trade center, and prioritizes commerce. Sonora's people are used to being controlled and their leaders control every facet of their life."
On the subject of Sonora, Caius shook his head though, his expression hitching a moment with discomfort when the red one pushed the idea of their actually moving to Sonora despite it not being ideal, thinking they might find some measure of happiness there. “I apologize if I haven’t been clear on the conditions there. Sonora is a corporate police state in a constant state of martial law. There are no “safe” places for offworlders, they have been groomed to think offworlders are dangerous and should be contained. If you go there, they should know nothing. If they find out, you’ll be locked up.”
It was easy to see why Caius held such a distaste for it. Aphmau and their retinue would bring up that it was possible there were people still looking, or ones that succeeded and didn't return. Caius only shrugged. He didn't know. But as for the next question, that at least he did know a little more. “Many I’ve met are from the same worlds as one another. Though some also are from variations of the same world. Different points in time, sometimes even different timelines of events entirely.”
Caius had been alerted to the existence of a timeline where Noctis died, some time ago. But he didn’t know which one this Noctis and his friends were from. Only that they were from an earlier point in time than he was.
They all were.
And he was reminded of that timeline isolation everytime he looked upon them. Everytime his own king, who he had given his life for, talked with no memory of what he had done. It was like his life back in Lucis hadn't existed.
To those around him, it really hadn't.
Caius rested against Vordun again as he watched the automaton cast their line. When the mercenary topic came up, he nodded at that. “Torensten is a good place for freelance work. So long as you’re not causing harm, they’re welcoming and its size means there’s a ton of work to go around. If you know how to fight monsters, it’s one way to make a living.”
Aphmau was glad learning more on these nations, as was Mnejing while he was watching his line, wondering if he stood a chance in catching anything. He wasn't exactly familiar with fishing whatsoever. Neither he nor his puppetmaster or the other automaton had ever done a similar thing to start with. He was at least good at watching and copying the behavior of others. He felt this would aid him in perhaps catching something. On the part of putting on a show, he was probably the better of the two automatons, having been the one acting as the empress during their time in the court as Aphmau would speak through him while also being below in the court itself.
Hearing more on Sonora, Mnejing pondered what was with them, but he supposed it was just precisely the people that disliked offworlders. He had thought there'd be those and these just seemed to be the extreme ones huddled together into one nation. “Well, unless anyone from our nation is now locked up there, it'd be best to avoid Sonora then,” he gave with what seemed to be a shrug, though Aphmau wondered as she placed a hand by her chin in thought, “what if one of our own is in prison there? Is there a way of knowing? Has anyone outside Sonora have contact with the nation?” She hoped that if there was any of her friends or allies… or even her brother… there in prison, she would be able to learn of it.
Mnejing merely shook her head and continued with his studying on Caius while fishing. He was memorizing any patterns in his movements and voice changes at this point, having decided if he ever needed to create an illusion, he would at least be able to act and speak like Caius.
Hearing there were people from different points of time or even different timelines actually bothered Aphmau, “so even if we were to find someone from home, they might just be from a different timeline of my own and we would still learn nothing.” She let out a drawnout sigh from this revelation, “then it's no use to even try to understand what happened home and just figure out what to do in this world.” She sat back while Mnejing turned his gaze towards her and slowly let his head go sideways, seemingly surprised.
Ovjang continued to watch the dragon and patted it again calmly, “well, this world might be an adventure in its own! We could have a lot of fun and your brother isn't getting in our way from having fun!” she chimed happily, not really caring about their predicament.
Listening to the possibility of work, Aphmau nodded, “it might actually be a good way to actually learn about the terrain and world to get some work. We are capable of fighting and if anything, we can set up a performance if we cannot fight anything else.” Mnejing joined in as he nodded, “getting a lay of the land would be good if we do need to travel and end up performing jobs. We have some experience in combat, investigation, infiltration, and subtlety.” With one exception on the last, he thought while his head turned to Ovjang.

The Dragonblades
Caius seemed to pick up on the little things here and there and would help the puppet to correct their stance or ensure that their line wouldn't snag while casting. While they seemed to be some sort of automaton, they still had at least a shred of sentience in them and he had every reason to continue to be polite with them since they had it. Though he didn't seem to have to help much, they were quick at copying his own stance, it seemed. Of course, his stance fit his size. The one beside him was much smaller and needed to be adjusted to match.
"If one of your own is imprisoned, then contact will be slim to none -- and the odds of getting them out are even worse. Sonora appears to have safeguards against just about everything, including magic" Caius pointed out. He was still trying to figure out ways around that problem as they spoke. While it was technically not his business as he didn't really know Ignis nor Gladiolus, they were the friends of His Highness, and they were Crownsguard themselves. Caius did not know what led them into a Sonoran gulag, but it was more than a little unlikely that they had actually committed any crime.
Aphmau didn't seem pleased when he spoke of his experiences with timelines, but that was the breaks. "Unfortunately. Everyone from my world that I have met is from a time where I was not a factor" Caius spoke bluntly on the matter. Better to just be frank about his own experiences, it would be one way to prepare them for the many possibilities they could face. "Some worlds seem more... Popular than others. So your odds depend on your luck, I would wager."
At least she seemed to understand that it was best to focus on the present and what to do about this world, however long their tenure might be. It also sounded like they were capable of combat, which was interesting. Caius peered down at the water below as he noticed a fish headed towards his hook before he spoke softly. "There is freelance work to be done in Torensten, and the Dragonblades I mentioned also offer steady work to their members. Though they refuse any assassination or thieving work."
Mnejing enjoyed the help as he figured out the fishing. Perhaps some would've been confused with how much of a personality the two automatons had, but their advanced programming was designed with the powers of the Gordeus. It allowed the two of them to decide things for themselves, a greater degree of autonomy than other automatons had. Their behavioral patterns still followed some kind of protocol, but they were meant to aid Aphmau and her brother.
Aphmau was a little saddened to hear that there was no chance on contact if anyone was stuck in Sonora, she did wonder if the place might be hiding more than it would let on. But she was unfamiliar with… well, everything here. "I… see..." she said softly, "perhaps we'd best understand the situation in this world beyond that first." That statement had Mnejing nod, "it'd be most wise to actually have a clear understanding of what all might be here and go from there." If they had more a lay of the land, they could work from there.
The timelines… was definitely a problem, but would they not disturb it if they explained situations to others? Aphmau pondered on this, but Ovjang this time spoke up: "so many different timelines, but then it'd mean that whatever we do in here might just not have any impact on our own world. There might even be the chance that at some point we leave and have no knowledge this ever happened," the red automaton said while she continued to study the dragon, "even on the off chance that we do retain all the knowledge from this world, we'd have created a new timeline of itself with new knowledge, but it might just as well be possible that others from the same world have been here, returned, but never brought it up to others and as such still not know you as they have forgotten their time here."
Mnejing merely nodded at this. "These… Dragonblades recruit or have open missions to undertake?" Aphmau asked, "I think the better option is to work where we involve ourselves with others," she continued a little nervously.

The Dragonblades
Caius was not experienced with automatons by any means, so he did not question it too thoroughly. In a world where the multiverse had run wild, Caius was no longer blind to potential possibilities. Anything could happen now. He understood that. So trying to understand these kinds of things was unneeded, until it became necessary. He listened as Aphmau and her partners mused about the connections between this world and theirs.
"All of those things are possible. I try not to think about it" Caius admitted with a sad smile. He was dead. He had no world to go back to. So he tried not to think about the possibility that he could be sent back, since that would involve having to come to grips with the possibility that one day he would just completely vanish from existence. Not a pretty thought by any means.
The red one seemed to be getting the hang of fishing, so Caius let them handle the rest on their own. The next question however, was one that he was happy to answer. "They recruit. We're a full scale organization that employs mercenaries for jobs specifically sent to the Dragonblades. We used to take from the bulletin boards here in Torensten, but it is no longer necessary as people who have need of what we can do, know to seek us out" Caius brought up then. "Our jobs are mainly related to slaying monsters or dealing with bandit problems. On occasion, we get the request to search for a missing child if law enforcement has turned up empty, or to serve as security for a traveling caravan if they feel they would be comfortable with a more proven but more expensive unit than if they had picked a few tough guys out of the local bar. We try to be reasonable with our prices, but considering the fighting capability of our best, and our other responsibilities, we charge more than the run of the mill mercenaries with a scale based off the difficulty of the job, the resources it will take and how much it would cost the mercenary in particular to carry it out. Of course..."
There was a catch.
"Not everything we do is for money. The Dragonblades are most commonly comprised of fighters from other worlds. Many of which whom are people who have fought to save their worlds and the people around them. That desire does not die out so easily, even in a new world. People have begun to depend on us when major threats come to Zephon and its people. When someone is in severe need, regardless of whether they can pay or not, most of us will choose to intervene without thought to reward. While you are technically not obligated to do so, the reputation both gives us clientele, and an expectation. A blessing and a curse. People may think it strange if you ignore an emergency happening in front of you."
