She gave a soft shrug of her shoulders and looked away at his questions. She turned to admire the gentle flow of the water under the bridge. The mandarin ducks showed off their plumage as they floated along the current. “Please. Don’t mistake me for the type to spread rumors.” She only did so if it was necessary, of course. There were times to strategically do so in court and for one’s advantage. “I know not if they hide anything or simply wish to keep their research private. I shant say otherwise.” But it didn’t mean that it wasn’t possible they were using guests in some experiments. However, there were no grounds for her to make such dreadful assumptions to spread such information.
Perhaps, she gave him something interesting to do at the party. After all, it did not seem conversations with others interested him much.
“Is that so? I couldn’t tell that you chased anything with the pace you are going for this bird.” He was being so leisurely about it. As if he had not the energy to give chase at all. “It seems the event must be important if you gave chase to troublemakers. Were you a guard of some sort?”
They drew near the bird’s nest where it was trying to nestle it down into the twigs of its bed. It preened under its arm and stared at them warily. The rest of the red string now seemed knotted up and tangled within the tree branches. “Well, Sir Tseng.” She said looking at the conundrum. “Do you know how to unknot this problem?” She looked up at him and raised a brow. The bird obviously would not give it up without a fight. It would also take time to unravel the string.
Tseng gave a shake of his head. "I wasn't thinking that at all. You are voicing concerns." Sharing information and spreading rumors were different things. It wasn't like she was expaning on the information or saying these things just to say them. The topic of conversation had come up with the sight of the doors, and he had been the one to ask for more information. He didn't care for rumors, but he was one for as much information as he could get on just about anything. Knowledge was power, and it was what he needed in a new place.
Thinking on her words, he gave a short nod. "Fair enough. Maybe we shall find out about their work later on. It could be something innocent that will better the world, maybe we will never know." He had to respect working in private, as that was the way he himself liked to do things. It was best not to reveal small parts, or you will have people asking for more and that tends to stress inventors and researchers.
At her words, he gave a chuckle. "Well, it does seem like the bird is going to a certain location, so there is no need for a chase at this time." Chases were meant to catch someone before you lost them, and you did not know their destination. This bird had a home, and she knew where the home was. There was no need to go at a quick pace at the moment.
"You could say that." How much did he want to tell her? It was true that this was a new world. Turks were no longer a thing, and most wouldn't even know what that meant. "I was in charge of a security branch in my old world. We were a secret organization that fronted as security detail." Not too much information about the extent of work they did, so he felt comfortable telling that part of his story.
As they entered where the bird had retreated to, it amused him how defensive the bird was getting over a string. Animals were curious creatures, and they bonded with the strangest things. It seemed to have gotten comfortable, knowing the mess it had caused and was quite happy about it. "It's usually best to start at the beginning." He gave a smile as he made his way to one of the branches were the tangle seemed to have started. He started taking the string off of one of the small bits sticking out, working his way up.

[attr="class","character-spring-1d"]She smiled in amusement as she lowered her eyes. “We, good Sir?” She said bemused that he wanted to include her in his endeavor to learn more about the secret rooms. “Careful where you put your nose in the palace. If you get caught, then you are bound to be removed from the premises.” She said lightly. She wondered if he would try anyway. He probably could talk himself out of a situation, if he wanted to.
She gave a soft shrug. “You are correct, I suppose. It cannot leave this aviary at least.” She hummed thoughtfully, “But how did you know where the nest would be? Do you know more about birds than you are letting on?” She asked, raising a brow. Or maybe he simply guessed by his trajectory.
He mentioned his line of work and she only raised a brow. “Interesting. Fortunately, if your current employer is not here, I am sure there are plenty of opportunities to be hired for such skill sets.” Lady Hilda and Regent Cid hired Baku and Tantalus to assist him at times. “A secret organization that fronted as security detail.” She hummed thoughtfully. Much like Tantalus fronting as a group of performers when they were really thieves that could be paid to kidnap people, or other services, at times. “If you only fronted as security, then what was your real job, I wonder.”
As he moved to get the string pulled down from the tree, Hilda whispered a gentle spell. With a gentle flick of her hand, a float spell to help lift him to the other branches to untangle his string. The magic sparkled under his feet.
Then, she turned to notice that the little bird noticed the tugging of the string in its nest. It squawked angrily and then took to the air to badger Tseng. It swooped and dived angrily and Hilda watched helplessly as she tried to look around for something to help with. It seemed too aggressive to harm the bird for protecting its little home.
Tseng looked at her with a sly grin. "We as in the world, let's not get ahead of ourselves." Her next sentence turned the sly grin into a more mischievious one. "For that to happen, they would have to catch me first. I'm not one to go down so easily." Or at all if he was being honest. Tseng wasn't one to brag or ever really talk about himself, but he was good at either talking himself out of things, or never being caught if he wasn't able to get out of it.
"I do hope they treat them well. Being cooped up is no good for them after all." Birds were kept as pets to some, but their nature was to be out in the open, flying free with the wind. "Just had to keep an eye on it. If I had lost it, I would just have to find where the aviary." He figured she would have known where it was in the end, so he hadn't been too worried about it.
"Correct, but I do not trust just anyone, so that makes it a bit complicated to find someone to work for, or with." Fortunately he had found Cissnei, so that had been a step forward. She had her own schedule though and things to attend to, so he was fine just being on his own as well.
The next thing he knew, he was being lifted by something to the other branches. Looking over at her, he gave a small smile. "Someone has some tricks up her sleeves." From what he had gathered about the people here, it came as no surprise that she could do something like that. Everyone came from a different world, so they came with different skills.
Just then, the bird noticed what was going on and he seemed to become a target. He had to admit, he never thought he would be going against a bird. He didn't try to fight it, it was just an innocent bird after all. He did put his arm up to shield his face as he made his way to sturdy branch to stand on. Once his footing was stable, he quickly grabbed the bird with both hands around the body. "You are a fiesty little thing, aren't you?" It was squirming and squacking still, trying to get free.

[attr="class","character-spring-1d"]He sounded confident he would not get caught. He must have a lot of trust in his abilities, especially in the world he was from. But there were different rules and capabilities here. Hopefuly that confidence would not be his downfall. Her eyes shifted to their current task at hand.
She raised a brow at him as he seemed to not know where the aviary was. “Good, sir.” She said gently, shaking her head and gesturing around them. “We are in the aviary. This entire palace - the Birdsong Palace - is known for it, as I said before.” Goodness. He really did just wander in here without knowing, didn’t he? It made her worry about these skills he boasted of. “And of course, they take care of them. It is why they were bestowed by the dukes to take care of them and research all breeds in Torensten.”
She shook her head and shrugged. “Sounds awfully difficult to have a job with trust issues.” She said lightly and thought back to a sorcerer she knew had similar issues. How did he manage? She thought back to his story. “You could always simply work for yourself. Start your own business based around your trade.”
He glanced at her when she cast float upon him. He commented on her ‘tricks’ and she humbly lowered her eyes and gave no response. Though when he managed to safety of the branches, he simply grabbed the bird and let it struggle. Hilda’s eyes widened. “Please don’t harm it.” She told him, her brows drawing together. “Perhaps, it would be easier for you and the bird if you found a different string, if you cannot get your own?”
The bird struggled and sqwaked and pecked at his hands angrily.
‘What would Tseng do to get his end of the string and resolve this situation?,’ She wondered.
