[attr="class","character-spring-1d"]There were obvious hostilities between the gentlemen in her group. They knew information about this royally dressed person that she did not. She had no reason to be hostile, however. It would prove detrimental to their goals. It did show her she should use caution with the man.
Further, it appeared she was ignored by this shinobi figure. It was his familiar that spoke for him. “‘Tis a pleasure to meet you, Enma, and your companion.” She politely inclined her head in acknowledgement. It irked her that Caius would so easily kill someone on the drop of a hat. It reminded her of a certain someone who took pleasure in harming. His terse introduction left her feeling a little irritated. Still she mustered a polite acknowledgement in return, “Sir Caius.”
She felt the two warriors were rudely ignoring her, something she was unused to, and the annoyance boiled in her. Her face was a perfect mask of calm until they walked by her into the tower. Then, she just gave them a ‘what children’ look for the moment their backs were turned to her.
All this friction between members meant that she would need to work harder to keep them alive. She stifled a soft sigh. Sometimes her role as kind healer was quite the work.
She chose not to inject herself into the spat between the three. She had nothing useful to contribute so she said nothing. Nor could she sway such heated passions while they behaved in such brutish manners. If anything, what she did KNOW was how to properly greet the founder of a nation. A man ranked far higher than her on the social stratum. She was simply a de facto Queen. He was a true emperor. She curtseyed much more deeply for him and lowered her eyes. “Your Imperial Majesty, it is truly an honor.” Her eyes lifted as he strode by. Her gown rustled as she rose to follow behind the group.
Inside the tower was musty with stagnant air. It hummed with ancient magic and untold lore. She simply came with open eyes and a curious mind.
When it became too dark to see well, she simply reached into the sack at her hip. A polished, tennis ball-sized crystal spread its light upon her golden visage. In preparation, she was able to store a whisper of white magic inside the refined crystal. It’s results radiated a warm light.
She turned her palm up and with a gentle blow, allowing the crystal to hover with a bit of float magic. It would aid in lighting the way for their journey.
Upon coming upon this first terminal, she studied it curiously. Part of her wished the Terran technology had a proper translation mechanism. It could speak the common language at intruders, but it refused to translate its own secrets. A xenophobic race they appeared to be.
She nodded to Solus as he attempted his inquiry with the machine. It did not understand his inquiry. “If I may intrude, your majesty…” She quietly stepped forward and spoke, a hand touched over her heart for her sincerity. The other hand dropped to her side, palm exposed to show her openness. “I prefer to conjecture a few queries. First, if a library of magic - specifically on Terran or Summoner Tribe magic - exists, then I would humbly request its path be revealed.”
Hilda was keen on studying magic outside her own range. It allowed her to understand how her magic might interact with other types. Such understanding allowed her to not only enhance her own, but build better defenses against it. More so, her adopted daughter, Eiko, had two types of magic, which appeared customary for white mages on Gaia. The first type of magic Hilda knew well and she could teach Eiko how to best harness white magic. The second type, however, Hilda was unfamiliar with summoner tribe magic. Unfortunately, it appeared only Garnet and Eiko were left of them. Both were orphaned and one was unaware of her abilities for some time. Both held no teacher in such arts. And Hilda had no master of the magic to seek out. It frightened her that young Eiko might swell in its power without properly learning how to harness and control it. She hoped to learn more to help her not hurt herself, or those around her, with such magic.
It also appealed to her that this Ramuh may be related to the tower. A tower built to touch the skies and seek out Ramuh, and perhaps all the gods, once more. If all her inquiries failed, she would resort to this bit of lore of the tower in her next attempt.
“Second, is there a general map or layout or some sort of directory we may scroll through?” She hoped to see what options laid before them. Somehow she doubted it would be so easy.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Solus would explain that he disappeared with Jules de Lune's corpse in an attempt to revive it, albeit with omitted detail provided by Caius that Solus also stole the crystal. The attempt at revival aside, this did not add up to Keimusho. He knew full well that Garleans could not manipulate aether. His mind would revisit the conversation that he had with Alexander Sorel, in which he was informed of the Resonant Project and how it enabled Zenos to use magic. But that was not a plausible explanation. Solus was long dead before that supposed project was in motion. [break][break] Caius could see how vexed Mu was and assure him that if Solus raised a hand against them then he would kill them. The shinobi nodded in agreement as he sheathes his blade. The Doman's were still at an all time high, but even so he knew that it wasn't the best idea to attack before he completely understood his adversary. In addition, Solus in all likelihood expected to be attacked in this scenario, giving the Garlean room to retaliate. No, if Mu were to strike at this man, he would do so when when he had all the information and when Solus least expected it. [break][break] "One last thing, Galvus. Are you insinuating that you attempted to revive him through arcane means?" The shinobi asks. After that was settled he would turn his attention to the tower. Solus would inquire about something called the Occular, while Hilda inquired about about a magic library of sorts and a potential map of the layout of the tower. [break][break]

all our splendour
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
Oh dear, he was just getting bodied, wasn't he? Finding himself surrounded on all sides, he raised his hands, waving a bit. "One at a time, please." Yes, he was quite popular, wasn't he? He supposed he should answer everyone, at least as best as he can, as he more or less ignored the issue he was having with the computer to focus on mostly everyone else. "To begin with the one who treats me like a decent human being..." Yes, Lady Hilda was nothing but polite, so he bowed respectfully. Regardless of status, he was just relieved to have something close to an ally in this. "The pleasure is all mine, my lady. It is encouraging to know I will have at least one other civilized companion in this tower." He dipped his head as well, before raising back up. Right, that took care of one, that left the two others.
Folding his hands behind his back, one covering the wrist of the other, he slouched a bit. "As for the Doman..." He raised a brow. The hue of this man's soul was familiar, in an ancient way. This was an Amaurotine, that much he knew. Beyond that however, he knew not who the original soul was, and he doubted it had been anyone close. "Yes, I did attempt to revive him through Arcane means. One might wonder that in a new world..." And he trailed off, allowing the Doman to make his own conclusions. "Alas, I had the same result you would expect." Nothing concrete had been said, after all. Perhaps he would see through the veil, or perhaps be lost in its mists. Neither made a difference in the end.
And then there was Caius. Emet-Selch wheeled about, smelling opportunity. "And, as for our dear Dragelion..." He craned his head up to look at the tall man. He'd seen taller, he'd been taller, but still, Caius was one to stand out in a crowd. "The crystal was a catalyst for an ongoing time loop. With its removal, the loop could not be perpetuated. You're quite welcome." Of course, he didn't know that at the time, but well, it would work out, right? "And may I say I don't appreciate the continued slander. If that's something you wish to try your hand at, you may be out of your depth, my boy." Namely, when you had to deal with a court of intrigue, especially for as something as unpopular as oh, turning a republic into a dictatorial empire, yeah.
Yeah.
He looked back to Hilda, his head craning over his shoulder. "I am doing my best, my lady. But cooperation requires both parties, I'm afraid, and I really do not wish to be slandered repeatedly." His gaze returned to Caius, an insufferable smirk plastered on his lips. "Alas, it seems Miss Chere is the one who does all the work that gives your organization its reputation. I would guess a brute like you just sees her as eye candy, no? Between your organizations' recent acquisitions, 'twould seem you just have a type for beautiful maidens of blonde hair and blue eyes. It would explain why you picked this job, seeing as Lady Hilda fits that same description, mayhaps you wished to add her to your, ah... collection?" What was Caius's button? Probe, see what he reacted to. What was Caius going to do, cap him? No, if he had to guess, he expected Caius to just laugh it off or something. Whether or not he fumed beneath the laughter would be key.

The Dragonglaive
It honestly sounded like a load of garbage. But there was no proving for or otherwise, and Caius didn't feel like wasting their time debating it. He had made his point clear, and if Emet proved to be a threat, Caius would deal with it. Their survival came first. That was all there was to it. Emet could explain away all he liked, it would make no difference. "My point is simple, Solus zos Galvus, founder of Garlemald. If you do not present a threat to the safety of myself or our comrades, then you have naught to fear."
He had been ready to get on with the expedition, but "Solus" was still talking. Of all things, a smirk protruded across his expression at his insinuations. He understood what this was. He had dealt with bandits for most of his life, this was nothing. "Is that what they're saying about me? That I must have collected a harem? I should feel honored they think so capable of me" he remarked with a hint of amusement in his voice. Words did not phase him, especially that of this sort of nature. It was the only advantage to having, at best, a basic understanding of these sorts of things. But he had read books. He knew things... Just didn't know how to comprehend them the same as everyone else just yet. Long story short, Caius didn't have the capacity to feel anything for his remarks.
"If I do have a "collection", perhaps my "type" is not the blonde-haired beauty with brimming blues, but the magic man of mystery. Since you appear so interested in my love life, Your Highness, are you requesting to be part of my "collection" as well?" came a burst of sass as Caius no-sold his remarks without a single skip of a heartbeat. He cocked his head then, towards the thing that Hilda was attempting to communicate with. And with it, his smirk faded back into all-business stone. A silent gesture that he desired for them to shut up and let Hilda work so they could get moving. They had wasted enough time.
As the others talk and slander each other, the pedestal reacts to Hilda’s requests. ”There are many libraries within the tower archives,” it responds. ”The term ‘Terran’ is unfound. Searching for the term ‘summoner.’”
The holographic screen flickers as it runs through its database. ”The term ‘summoner’ has been identified in three hundred and seven instances. Information can be found most prominently in the history of the gods and the research of extra-dimensional planes.
”Now scanning for an accessible route…
”No route discovered. Higher security clearance is required.”
The pedestal hums as its processes its second query. ”A map of area one detected. Now printing schematics.”
A sheet of paper slides over the top of the pedestal, and in a flash of light, shapes are burned into it. Another paper is followed by another until there are five sheets on the pedestal printed with a detailed map. While the layout is easy enough to make out, the sigils are not in a common language, and any text is illegible.
The first page shows a room with the same shape as the one you currently find yourself in. A sigil marks where the pedestal is, and in front of that is a circle marked with another sigil.
”Access to area one granted. Now activating portal.”
Up the stairs, the circle of dormant runes spring to light, forming a magical circle that seeps with a strange and alien power. The pedestal is active, but silent. Having fulfilled its queries, its work is done.
[attr="class","character-spring-1d"] Hilda was becoming annoyed at all the bickering. She kept out of it and focused on the task at hand instead. His majesty seemed to take the harassment from all sides. As most elite, he took the criticisms and insults in stride. One had to have a strong backbone to stand up to the weight of the throne, but the wit to manage those who tried to poke holes in your defense.
In one breath, he was polite to her. In the next, his Imperial Majesty smeared her honor in front of others. Higher ranked or not, she would not stand to have some stranger make such assumptions of her nor her morals. She raised a brow at him, her mouth thinned into a severe pout. “If I may make a recommendation, your Majesty.” She started quite stiffly. “You already have few allies here. Do not make them fewer.” She stepped closer to him, her hands neatly folded in front of her but her chin rose as she stood up to him. There was a hum of magic that hung in the air for a moment, while she took the next breath to compose herself. “Never associate me with a ‘collection’ again.” The edge of her voice made it quite clear she did not care if it was simply an example to clear his own name.
Her husband tried and he paid a heavy price for months. Her captor had done so similarly and ended up releasing her when others had not even the notion of survival in equivalent situations. She would not be ‘owned’ by anyone. Nor would she simply be tossed to the side, as if her use was no longer of value. She would decide her own terms and values.
“If it pleases his Majesty to never do so again, then we shan’t have any trouble cooperating.” She gave a sharp huff and turned her darkening blue-hazel eyes to Caius and Keimusho. “Now that we have drawn our boundaries, may we continue without further argument?”
The machine had already spouted her answers in between the human jabs. Her heart softened that there were many libraries here. All the knowledge she could read. Perhaps, this time she should lock herself away in an ancient library. She was unsurprised Terran was nowhere in its dictionary. She wondered if the Terrans had another name for themselves. Something that was not humble to the Gaian tongue. But the fact that ‘summoner’ had many hints renewed her interest in pursuing its nature. The fact that its research extended into other planes…
While the gentlemen gaped at each other, she quickly retrieved the maps that printed and studied them. Another language barrier...Still she could guess definitions based on their recurrence and location. She hummed quietly to herself as she thought. Without much interest on whether they followed or continued to puff their feathers like angry cocks, she confidently stepped into the magic circle. It seemed the only way forward after all.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Solus taunts Caius by referring to the blond haired women in the Dragonblades as a "collection" and draws a correlation between Lady Hilda and this hypothetical collection. Caius responds, "If I do have a "collection", perhaps my "type" is not the blonde-haired beauty with brimming blues, but the magic man of mystery. Since you appear so interested in my love life, Your Highness, are you requesting to be part of my "collection" as well?" This mention of such a "collection" confuses a certain floating oni. The clearly confused Enma responds to the two's exchange with, "Wait you collect people?! Isn't that... illegal?" Mu simply shook his head in response.
[break][break] Lady Hilda who mostly kept out of the argument that they exchanged did not take Solus's comment laying down as she would tell him to never associate her a so called ‘collection’. Hilda would then suggest that they move forward without any further argument. Enma one once again responds to the "collection" comment. "I don't blame you for being mad. I don't think anyone wants to be forced to be part of a collection." "Enma no one is collecting anyone," Mu responds."That aside, I agree that we should be getting a move on."

all our splendour
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
And then came Caius's comeback. By all accounts it would have enraged many. It was expected, after all, considering that it was a good comeback, despite Emet's own expectations. He stood there in silence, waiting for it to finish before he kept that ever smug smirk on his face. There was a low chuckle as he shrugged and shook his head. "Ahaaaa! You do have a sense of humour!" Well at least he was able to take these sorts of things in stride. "The most I thought I would get out of you is a grunt and a gunshot." Part of him was wondering though, just how many of Caius's buttons he could press before he wound up on the receiving end of that gunblade. Perhaps he should warn him of Zenos? No need. Too easy, and he was sure the Doman would, sooner or later. Ah well, his great grandson had asked for interesting prey, and well, at the time, Caius was one of the names going around.
He was sure it'd all work out.
But the barrages continued as it seemed that Lady Hilda would make her own issues known. He turned to face her, as was polite. He understood her complaint at least. Yes, perhaps he had smeared her honor or somesuch. The political court had always been such a bother. Perhaps he would have been challenged to a duel by her husband, were she married and he around. Though he felt that there was a story there. "Ah, was her lady denied a collection when she was younger? A pity, if so. I think you would have made for a natural botanist." It was an honest assessment; he'd been allowed several collections vegetable, animal, and mineral. But he placed a hand to his chest and bowed. "Nevertheless, I see your point and I have clearly misstepped. Please accept my apologies, it won't happen again." He could find ways to trade barbs without going there regarding Hilda. To overly rely on one method was, well, in this context, boring. But it did have its uses.
Just shooting them never really stopped being useful.
That being said, it appeared his apology fell on deaf ears, as she took the map and left the three of them. He let out a sigh. "I see our mediator has chosen to depart." On the flip side, if things did go south, it was two on one. And well, without a dedicated mage, Emet-Selch felt even better about his odds than he did before. "Excellent work, Dragelion. I do hope you're proud of yourself." He remarked glibly. Proud of what? He'd let Caius work that out himself. He looked to the Doman, who seemed to be getting impatient. They were now short a map and a mage, and Emet-Selch motioned back to the machine. "Well? Aren't you going to fetch another map?" If he wished to move, then he'd best move. "Though I'm glad Doma seems to be learning from its mistakes, since a certain collection gave birth to our dear Viceroy Brutus." Oh, he'd known of Yotsuyu's childhood since she was made Viceroy. He had to. Perhaps her methods were unnecessarily brutish, but the girl was clearly lashing out at those who made her.

The Dragonblades
Indeed, it seemed that he did. Wouldn’t stop Caius from shooting him, though. But soon to shoot instead was the Lady, who shot him a glare and a scolding of a lifetime. Even Caius’ stoic expression broke in the face of that level of ferocity. He leaned over to whisper to Mu. “She might be scarier than he is. We should let her go in front, she’ll terrify anything that gets in our way.”
Unfortunately, things didn't work out like that. Because instead of going forward, she went back. And gone. With the map. The one who insinuated that she may become part of a harem tried to put the blame on him for this outburst, but it was ignored as he tried to play with the machine. Luckily, he had remembered the steps that the Lady had taken, having been spectating this while Emet tried to play his games. He hadn't intended to have to use it for this purpose though.
If able to procure a new map, he would thank the silent thing before himself silently walking through the way that had happened. And if he couldn't get a map? Well, the only way they could go was forward.
