If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Serah was happy to have found her sister, and Lumina was happy that Zell returned to her. But for the SeeD, his true happiness had yet to be found. Zell's happiness wasn't a person so much as it was a place. It was his home world, where both Balamb and the Garden needed him to be their protector, just like he was in the past. Sure, Squall was the one in command of their group, but Zell was still a valuable asset.
So when he learned that he could still return home, the rush of memories and emotion that returned to Zell made him want to immediately go back. There was just one tiny problem; Zell had to be sent back by the Gods, and they wouldn't grant him that favor unless he completed their trials. He was a hero, after all, so why not utilize his abilities to fight the evils of the world?
Now that he was back in Provo, there was plenty of time to catch Lumina up on what he discovered. It wouldn't be immediate, though. Zell had to wait until Serah turned in for the evening after their big dinner, which was at the restaurant that Lumina chose.
"You were right," Zell said while the pair were walking back to where Lumina had been residing. He managed to snag a tooth pick to pry at the bits of meat that were still stuck between his teeth. "The flavor, the portions, hell even the drinks were amazing! That place was great."
"And I still gotta tell you about my trip," he said, still at her side. Darkness already laid a veil over the sky with some clouds partially covering the starry sky overhead. With it being night time, most of the city's activity had died down. Some establishments remained open, but the foot traffic was much less than it was earlier in the day. "I wanna hear about what you've been doing, too."
He still felt bad about leaving the way he did. It wasn't intentional, but he also thought that Lumina wouldn't really miss him that much. After all, Zell was just some guy that she framed helped, but he must have made some sort of impression for her to become so attached. Dealing with that issue was something that the teen still had not figured out yet.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Treating Zell to dinner felt like old times, having Serah around for dinner further fuelled Nostalgia. It made Lumina realize how much she'd settled in Provo. To a life that wasn't as thrilling but it was hers and that meant more than her survival mentality comprehended. Now another new experience for the day emerged. Waiting for Serah to turn in for the night, so that she could talk with Zell, alone. Her home in Provo was quite cozy, not overly large but rather spacious on the inside. With four separate bedrooms, Serah had her choice of three of them. Along with the opportunity to explore Lumina's house a bit.
Lumina wasn't convinced that was enough for this ploy, which meant she'd be hearing about this in a future conversation. Oh well, tomorrow's embarrassment meant little in the face of the current. Lumina having her feelings called into question, now had to consciously think about them. Despite putting them off for months, burying herself in her goal of making a lot of gil so that she could live comfortably. Back then, she told herself that this was all for Serah. That staying out of danger was her job as a vessel and any mischief she got up to, needed to be minor. Except, as she walked with Zell beneath the night sky, something became clear to her.
Only realizing that she was staring a short time after he'd stated he wanted to hear what she was up to. Lumina blinked for a moment, before smiling shyly. "I'm glad you liked it but I had help. The Innkeeper that owns the Inn we spent a night in, that place was his suggestion. He recommended it during the morning when I woke up, he figured you'd like it." thinking back, Lumina didn't end up trying the place out until almost a month later. As the owner became an acquaintance of hers, as well as a business partner.
"Mmm, as for what I've been up so? I solemnly swear I've been up to no good~" Lumina joked, even if that was somewhat true, it did start out on the shady side. After all, she did successfully smuggle Diamond Dust out of Sonora. A feat she couldn't have done without Zell for one. Chuckling softly, Lumina continued, "I had a goal in mind, to make as much gil as possible so that I could live comfortably and have some fun. I told myself that it was for Serah, as I was supposed to be protecting her heart and soul inside me. Being stranded in a new world meant I needed to be extra careful." Lumina didn't look like the type to be so responsible, as well as considerate but there was more to light than meets the eye.
"Do you remember what I told you back in Sonara, Zell?" she paused now, having recollected that moment over the months since they parted ways. "I said 'Once I help you escape, I'll be able to take care of both of us.' To my surprise, you didn't accept my offer because you just wanted to go home. That was when I realized I genuinely wanted to help you, instead of just wanting some company. I guess... I didn't really express that or show a desire that I was serious about going home myself. Maybe that would have changed things, then again... maybe it wouldn't." With such thoughts on her mind, for months. The truth was, Lumina reckoned it was her fault Zell left and worried he'd gotten himself into trouble.
"I'm not the type to charge in head first. In that way, you remind me of Serah and her boyfriend, Snow. What I ended up doing was making a foundation so that we could explore Zephon, searching for clues, so that you could get home." she smiled sadly as she figured, even without Zell telling her. That he was able to push through and find what he desired. Without getting invested in this world.
"So, what did you find~? Tell me everything."

If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
It was good to see that Lumina was on track with her goals. At least, she was with most of it. She was building wealth and establishing connections in Provo, and likely in other places, too. Zell hardly remembered the innkeeper from their first day in the city, but there were vague details that did come to mind.
"Well, you did help me. A bunch." There was no denying the aid that she gave to him. If Lumina hadn't appeared at the right time, the guards would have easily hauled him off to whatever awful prison was within that city. "You saved my butt in Sonora. And you helped me get to Provo. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have found the information I needed to get my memories and learn about getting home. If it wasn't for you, there's no telling where I'd be right now, ya know?"
When Lumina brought up Zell's trip, excitement filled his voice. "Oh! So I found out from some traveling priests that there's a place called the Crystalus Divider. It's pretty far, but it was supposed to be a very religious place. Like an ancient temple where scholars live."
Zell took a few steps ahead of her and turned to walk backwards at the same pace as before, becoming even more animated with his face and arms as he continued to describe the journey. "I walked with a caravan to the Pale Coast. That's where I met Serah! She was in the middle of looking for your other sister, so we went seperate ways."
He then turned away, still walking, and crossed one arm across his body while the other rubbed his chin. "Let's see. I met a few people on the coast. Oh," he said, looking back to her. "I met a man named Balthier in Torensten! He had a boat and we went down some rivers to get to the Divider!"
This time, rather than looking back, Zell turned to the side and threw a few punches into the air. "We found some zombies, but we popped them good! And then we found an old friend of mine from the world I came from!"
It was here that he finally stopped and faced Lumina completely. His hands reached down and grabbed hers as he got even more excited. "It was Quistis!" Zell was practically jumping when he got to this part. "She's kinda like a sister since we grew up at the same orphanage."
Without even acknowledging the possible awkward moment of hand holding, Zell went right back walking while continuing his story. "So, we got to the Crystalus Divider and did some meditation at the shrine. I--" He stopped for a moment as his face took on a more serious expression. "I'm not exactly sure how it worked, but the Gods gave us a vision. Everything came back to me so fast. It was like a movie playing on fast-forward."
A mild headache followed. Despite having his memories back, the sudden download into his brain still brought on occasional pains. Zell was still trying to get used to it. "Anyways, I tried to come back here as soon as I can to tell you what happened. I said I was gonna let you know what I found, so here I am."
It wasn't until he finally finished his story that the Zell realized that he was rambling unnecessarily. It was a bad habit of his, something that often led to him being ignored or being told to shut up. His mood started to calm as he expected Lumina to have the same reaction as everyone else.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
To Lumina's surprise, not only did Zell truly appreciate everything she had done. He even pointed out aspects she hadn't considered. Part of her wondered if he was just trying to make her feel better, as she didn't feel like she'd done enough for Zell. Yet alone contribute to bringing his memories back. This manifested with a quizzical expression initially. In time, her expression softened; being more receptive to Zell's appreciation.
A soft 'hmm' escaped Lumina's lips at the mention of the Crystalus Divider. Having started her adventure around the Metaia temple, she had also conversed with many priests and monks alike. She couldn't put her finger on it but perhaps it was through passing conversation that she'd heard about this place. Zell getting ahead of her, only to walk backwards marked a shift in tone. They were reaching pertinent information. That came when he mentioned walking with a caravan, which caused her to sigh in relief. Then her eyes widened that this was how he met Serah. Part of her wondered if that was a chance meeting or a fated encounter.
Considering Zell met other people, Lumina's interest was quite piqued. She noted Balthier but really lit up when he said he met a friend. "Someone from his world?" she mused to herself, visibly surprised. Zell continued to explain that he met Quistis, someone he viewed like a sister. Lumina was starting to feel genuine excitement, in accompaniment of the relief. Sure, she was a bit bothered that he encountered zombies in this world. He nonchalantly blew past that part of the story and it made her remember that he was supposed to be the muscle. Somewhere, in her desire to take care of the knucklehead, she'd forgotten this fact and personified him like an innocent, hyperactive puppy instead.
Those feelings, something nostalgic but no longer true for Lumina, vanished when he took her hands in his. She'd been a bit swept up in the story, so it was only when there was a brief pause that she registered the act. It caused her to blush from head to toe and given her outfit, her arms and ankles really showed it! Even after he let her hands go, the lingering warmth remained and Lumina audibly gulped. Whatever feeling just shot through her, she'd never felt it before. Not as Lightning and definitely not during her separation. Her heart was racing so fast, she nearly missed the conclusion to this. Which was arguably the most important part. Zell had meditated in a temple and received visions from the Gods.
Anything to do with Gods made Lumina wary and weary all at once. Portrayed upon her visage with a look of concern, as she slowly blinked. Zell wouldn't be receiving the usual reaction to his rambling at all. Instead, he'd find that Lumina was very attentive, given her opening remark. "Zell? Why didn't you bring Quistis with you?" in her mind, if she'd found Serah, there's no way she'd abandon her sister to come find Zell. In fact, realizing that's somewhat what he did, it made her blush more. It meant she was that important and it changed her feelings on being abandoned. Though the pain was still there...
"Also the gods are the reason your memory is back, really? There was no catch that came with this revelation...?" she was skeptical, given her circumstances which caused her to close the distance between them. She began to examine him carefully, in a very animated way as she circled him briefly. "Well, you do seem okay at least. Especially your appetite~" this made her smile.
"...You didn't happen to talk to Quistis about me, did you?" she did want to meet her, admittedly but she was hoping she wouldn't be walking into a situation similar to Serah. Her nerves were still shot from that and it was her fault too! No wonder she was still red, so she'd try to cover for this question of hers. "I just, it'd be nice to avoid another...misunderstanding." she paused for a moment, looking around the area. Hopefully there weren't bystanders who knew her around.
"What else did you learn? I'm guessing you found a way to return home right? That's why you came back here to tell me and offered to take me with you."

If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Zell wasn't expecting Lumina to be paying attention in the way that she was. Yet, it was still a pleasant surprise. She even asked why he didn't bring Quistis with him, which was a very good question. He thought about it, about that sisterly relationship that was similar to Serah's and Lumina's. But Quistis was older and more mature. If anything, she was the one who would bring Zell somewhere.
"She's staying in Torensten for now," he responded while returning to her side for the remainder of their evening stroll. "There were some other things that happened when we got back to Torensten, so she stayed behind while I came back here to find you." It wasn't like he wanted to leave the female SeeD behind. But just like Zell, she needed to find her purpose in this world. Her own special way to help the citizens of Zephon.
"I might have brought you up in passing," Zell admitted, leaving out the part where Quistis teased him just like how Serah had. "Whenever we head back that way, I'll introduce you to her. Quistis is nice, so I'm sure you two will get along."
"The Gods left me a message when I got my memories back." in order to make it seem more proper, Zell cleared his throat to mimic the way that the Gods spoke to him. "Fight back the evil of this world, and then I may guide you home."
Sure, it was cryptic and gave no clues as to where to begin his fight against the evils of Zephon. But it was a start, and it was much more than what Zell had to go off of before coming to the Crystalus Divider.
"So the way I see it; we find these evil baddies and smack them around a bit," he commented, throwing a few more punches into the air in front of himself. "After that, we can go to my world. I'll give you the grand tour; airship and all!" It was a bit of information that Zell rarely shared, but he did in fact know how to pilot the Ragnarok.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Lumina sighed in relief when Zell confirmed Quistis was in Torensten. The last thing she wanted, was for him to lose contact with someone so close. Relief it seemed, was temporary; as after the good news came confirmation that he mentioned Lumina to Quistis. This shouldn't have been a surprise but it flustered Lumina all the same. After all, what kind of girl does so much for a stranger? "A girl in love would do something so benevolent. On the other hand, it could just be someone who is really nice and helpful, like me." maybe Quistis thought of her as the latter and not the former?
The promise of an introduction snapped Lumina out of her thoughts. "I'm glad, I'll look forward to it. Oh... and I won't um... suddenly cling onto your arm this time. I'm not even sure what got over me when I did that..." with the way her emotions were going and how much of her heart she was wearing on her sleeve, she might not regain her composore or colour during this evening stroll. At least Serah wasn't here to see this.
Bliss, however fleeting it was, seemed to fade at the mention of the Gods message. The special voice Zell used to say the message was amusing, no doubt but Lumina honed in on the 'may' guide you back home part. Quite frankly, Lumina didn't like it, this was way too suspicious. "If you want something done right, then do it yourself." Lumina thought, knowing she could teleport anywhere, provided she had some knowledge of the layout. Her abilities had come in real useful during Zell's absence, perhaps she just needed to hone them. Then world traversal could be achieved, god-free edition~!
Her silence and thoughts didn't distract her from listening to Zell's conclusion. It was clear that Zell found his reason for being here, just as Lumina realized her own reason earlier. "Oh~! You have airships in your world too?" she spoke up, rather enthusiastically. Oh, how she had a surprise for Zell then. "As it just so happens, I've got my own airship here in Zephon~ I call it the Lumina-MKXIII~" she paused for a moment, waiting to see Zell's expression. "I'm just kidding on the name... Radiance is it's real name. Renwick won't let me pilot it though, even though it's my ship... Torensten has rules for pilots to be able to fly." she crossed her arms and pouted.
"By the way, are you sure about this hero business? I can't recall coming across any serious evil threats so far. Feels like I've been living a safe but boring life here in Zephon." she giggled but ultimately, she wasn't going to rain on Zell's parade. "Part of me knows you're strong, really strong; so you won't succumb to whatever evil comes your way but... I can't help worrying about you all the same." she admitted, feeling a bit at ease confessing this.
"Also, I wanted to know how you knew where to find me? I mean w-what if I had left Provo...?" admittedly, Lumina had precautions in place in case such a thing did happen but that wasn't the point. Was telling her this story really the only reason he came back and how far would he have gone to find her and tell her the truth he discovered?
tag: @zell words: xxx outfit: One piece, sleeveless black dress with pink sash. notes: Words Unsaid, pt.3
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
It seemed that Lumina truly did establish a presence for herself in his absence. She had connections, wealth, and even an airship; and all within a short amount of time, too! Zell was proud of her and her accomplishments. Even hearing about her airship made the SeeD miss the old days of soaring the skies in the Ragnarok.
"Maybe we can go for ride sometime," he suggested. Of course, Zell wouldn't be able to pilot the Radiance based off of the information shared by Lumina. But it would be nice to travel without walking everywhere for once. "Hell, we could go visit Quistis in Torensten!"
The blonde SeeD's hands lifted to the back of his head as he let out a yawn alongside a big stretch. "I've got a few leads on the evil stuff, but just leave that to me." A grin crossed Zell's face as he looked over to her; his hands still locked behind his own head. "I'm the muscle, remember?"
Lumina did have another good question. How the hell did I know she'd be here he asked himself. It took a moment of thinking before the teen was ready to respond. "Well, I guess I didn't!" He let out a carefree laugh and glanced over to see her reaction once his arms returned to his sides. "I dunno. Sonora was out of the question after what happened there. And it didn't look like you were in Torensten when I was last passing through. That kinda narrowed it down to Provo, I guess."
Zell stopped walking once more and turned to the girl. Throughout this entire day, he couldn't help but notice that her was occasionally changing to different shades of red. Maybe it was time to tease her as payback for earlier. With that in mind, it was here that Zell leaned forward with a hand on his hip and poked the smaller girl in the center of her forehead with his finger. "Did you really think I'd forget about you? You gotta have more faith in me, ya know!"

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
The idea of going for a ride didn't surprise Lumina, she figured upon hearing this he'd want to. What got her eyes to light up, was the idea of visiting Quistis. "That sounds like a great idea, my airship is due back in a couple of days. They're picking up goods from Torensten to sell here." she explained, revealing one of her more... cleaner operations in terms of wealth. Strangely, things were coming together for both of them.
Zell mentioned he'd gotten some leads on the pursuit of evil. Even as he casually walked by her side, Lumina looked to him with surprise. His reminder of being the muscle, got her to smile. "That you are~ I'm...impressed, really. I didn't think investigating would be part of the Muscle's job description." she teased, for admittedly, she reckoned doing detective work would be her thing. On the other hand, didn't she spoil him enough already? It was good to be able to rely on someone else and his passion for this was clear.
It made for a nice flow of conversation, light and casual, easy to follow. That is, until Zell was tasked with answering one of Lumina's prominent questions. His response was so shocking, so nonchalant, that Lumina gasped in surprise. Stunned speechless, she let Zell continue. Much to her relief, there was some logic to this. He'd narrowed down possibilities, searched Torensten which she was around on and off. Granted, airship, so the odds of them running into each other was very slim. That left Provo in his mind, causing Lumina to playfully roll her eyes. "There was one other city, Aljana. I'm guessing you haven't been there yet though~" neither had Lumina in fairness but she had been invited. Alas, she insisted on not going too far in case Zell did return and her instincts were right!
Noticing Zell slow to a stop, Lumina did as well, looking him over curiously. What came next certainly caused her heart rate to spike. He carefully leaned in, one hand on his hip and with his free hand, he poked her forehead. She blinked in surprise, more so because of how close he was. She'd practically frozen in place even, waiting with baited breath for some verbal explanation. Zell's point came and Lumina blinked before scrunching her eyebrows. "I-it's not that I d-don't believe!" she stammered back, arms at her side, albeit hands clenched into fists in a cute fashion.
"I just worry!" she cried out but then, stood up straight for a moment and begun to contemplate. Surely, she'd said as much before but now she began to wonder why she worried. Zell said it himself, he was the muscle, that implied being strong. Shouldn't he be protecting her? It felt more like Lumina wanted to protect him! "Let me try that again..." she spoke softer and quieter, uncertain why she'd become so fidgety now. "When you're by my side, I'm confident you can beat anyone. I also know that when it's over, I'll be there to get you something. You're a lot of fun to be around, even if I have to babysit you a little~" hopefully that made sense, she looked deep into Zell's eyes, waiting for his reaction.

"Babysit!?"
Zell pulled back and even flailed his arms a bit from the accusation that Lumina had to babysit him. He was insulted. But rather than lose his temper, the SeeD had a rare moment where he managed to control his emotions.
Instead of flying off the handle, Zell decided to double down on the teasing. His eyes closed while a big smile crossed his face.
"I'm pretty sure the muscle is the one that has to do the babysitting. Especially when the baby is as tiny as you~." It was the first shot that he ever took towards her size, but Zell was going to make it count. To top it off, he even patted the top of her head, again, like he would to a child.
"Oh, and don't forget your booster seat for the airship, yeah?" the blonde teen continued on. It would be the last remark he made before withdrawing from the insults, as he began to realize that he was getting dangerously close to bullying.
There was a lot of truth in the statement that Lumina made prior to the babysitting remark. Zell couldn't deny that there was a newfound confidence from being at Lumina's side. And he had fun with her, too. Maybe there was more to this than what he was expecting. She was his friend, and it felt as if they were getting closer by the hour.
"You've done a lot to help me, remember?" Zell asked with a more serious tone. His playfulness had completely died down at this point. "I'm gonna return that favor. It's my turn to protect you."

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Ordinarily leveraging critique of Lumina's size was effective. He'd seen as much when they stayed at the Inn. On the other hand, Zell had also seen Lumina's real appearance too. The guise of the young girl, while not explained to Zell on why she took this form, was a ruse. So, it left her with a raised left brow. When he placed his hand ontop of her head, she had mixed feelings. The intent of it, was to tease her but... it felt oddly reassuring and her heart was beating faster and louder too.
"Um..." she managed to squeak out but couldn't formulate any words. The booster seat remark made her gasp and place both hands on her hips. For in truth, her personal seat was elevated higher. Not because she needed a boost in height, mind. She just enjoyed the view and it wasn't in the cockpit anyway. In the end, she shook her head and placed her right hand to her forehead.
Once Zell's tone shifted to serious, Lumina relaxed and looked a bit thoughtful. He reiterated that she'd done a lot to help him. Admittedly, Lumina had a feeling she didn't do enough. A lingering sentiment that rose to the surface when Zell declared it was his time to protect her. She had mixed feelings on that, some of it originating from her connection to Lightning. In that she favoured helping and protecting others. Instead of relying on them for her own needs. Where she contrasted was Lumina didn't try to do things on her own. Relying on others and having their companionship, was much better than being alone.
Alone. That really was the issue, which caused her visage to soften as her voice dropped. "Then... why did you leave me, Zell?" whatever limited pride she might have about being protected, her first thought being she wasn't Serah. Lumina couldn't deny there was a feeling of being safe with him. Safe and comfortable, she may have had the former... given she'd settled in Provo and networked plenty. The later part? Well, she did have that breakdown earlier and given her frequent display of blushing, clearly she wasn't comfortable.
"Serah, turned out to be here, which I can't explain how, given what I told you. I want to continue taking precautions, just in case. So... You'll be here, from now on, right...?"
