His memory was starting to come back. The details and timeline were still a confusing mess, but he remembered the important, vital bits. Lucrecia’s face, encased in crystal. Aerith’s death. His own near-death at the hands of Hojo. Defeating Omega with Shelke. The headaches were getting better, too. Only when he concentrated too hard on memories would spasm with pain.
But Sonora was still confusing. So similar to Midgar, but not quite similar enough. Weeks had passed and he still didn’t feel acclimated. He’d done a few local jobs, earned enough gil to afford a small room at an inn so at least he had a place to stay now. His phone still wouldn’t turn on and no one here had been able to help. They’d acted baffled at the device, saying it was somehow fundamentally different than the phones in Sonora. Vincent knew nothing about the technology and eventually abandoned the thing. Waste of space. He never should have bought it in the first place.
After the phone incident, he’d been shocked to realize the three materia equipped on Cerberus actually worked in this strange land he found himself in. Only a couple days past, he’d been attacked by a pack of imps outside the city. They were a nuisance, but in large numbers they certainly posed a thread. He’d been surrounded. Cerberus needed to be reloaded. So out of pure instinct he’d called up a Fire spell. Vincent wasn’t sure if he or the imps had been more surprised when the frozen land erupted into a fiery blaze. Since the incident with the imps, he’d tested Gravity and Time. Both worked as expected.
But now he had a very mundane concern. He was out of ammo for Cerberus. His last job had involved a golem and too many bullets, leaving him suddenly depleted. He’d looked at the local weapons dealer near his inn, but no luck. He couldn’t find the correct caliber. Was this just another strange difference between Sonora and Midgar? He couldn’t bear the thought of trading Cerberus for another gun. They’d been through far too much together. Even if he couldn’t remember all of it.
So now Vincent found himself in the seedy underbelly of Sonora. Long, twisting alleyways of rusted metal and flickering lights. Wet, cold rain fell and ran black through the streets, carrying the debris of the city with it. He sloshed through the muck, dressed now in plain black head-to-toe. The red and gold of his normal outfit was too distinctive for the black market of a strange city he barely knew.
Vincent pulled a black cloak around his head as scant protection from the rain and pushed through the hawkers and hagglers to see the stalls and shops. Weapons, potions, drugs, illegal technology. That and more that Vincent didn’t recognize. “You look like you need some cheering up,” a thin, sleazy man walked into his path, shoving a vial of reddish brown liquid in his path. “This potion will make you instantly better! Sure to lighten even the darkest mood.”
“No, thanks,” he mumbled and tried to disengage from the persistent man now trying to sell him a sickeningly colored love potion that would supposedly find him instant love.
He didn’t respond and the seller found a new target, shoving the vials into another unsuspecting victim’s face. Vincent pushed away, further into the tangle of shops and stalls.
"No, I assure you, I do not need a love potion," Stella stated as politely as she could to the rather insistent salesman. Honestly, she was sure if she even attempted to drink whatever was in that vial it may kill her. How in the world had she even ventured into the seedier underbelly of Sonora? For once, she had simply allowed her mind to wander as she walked around the city and now she was paying the price for it. Inattention was not normally one of her faults but it had proven to be so this time. No one was exactly threatening her well being as she tried to find a way out of this place at least. No, she simply had the entertainment of turning down every salesman that was trying to sell her their miracle wares and cures. [break][break]
Again, she takes a step back to disengage from the persistent man as her smile took a more icy edge. Sometimes diplomacy did not always work and she was not in the mood to keep being humoring him. "I do believe I said no. I will not do so a third time." Violet eyes flashed with her restrained temper and the man finally backed off. Satisfied that that was the end of it, Stella brushed past him and continued to walk forward with feigned confidence. No, she still did not know where she was going or how to get back. Should she double back the way she came? That would be the most logical conclusion, but she had no wish to engage with those salesmen again. The rain certainly did not help matters as it plastered her blond hair to her face and back along with the black skirt and camisole she wore. [break][break]
Stella sighed softly as she glanced upwards at the clouded sky and pondered over her sheer, dumb luck in this. Where was a stall with umbrellas for sale? That would truly be useful at the moment! Holding back her laughter at herself, she continued forward as she edged past the other people to see if there was an exit from this underbelly of Sonora. Being stuck in the rain was the lesser of her concerns at this point as she brushed past a taller, dark-haired man with an apologetic smile. "Please, excuse me."

Keimusho needed a better understanding of what went on in Sonora. The extent of which he knew was just the influx of crime result of dragons occupying the guard, just the usual of what you'd hear by word of mouth. However, if he wanted to make any difference here he would need to know specifics. The shinobi would need to know what kind of crime happens here. He would need to know to layout of the city's streets. Though he knew that this would take time and that he could not stay here long. He did need to go back to Torensten and check up on Aldrich. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best idea to leave an elderly man with amnesia to his own devices. However, the old man almost got killed a handful of time travelling with the ninja so it was probably for the best.
If there was anywhere that was a good start it was definitely this criminal underbelly. Though he entered with the expectation that he would not purchase any of the goods nor did he wish to be seen in here at all. To rectify this issue, he utilized Hide to become undetectable to the individuals in the underbelly.
He traversed the underbelly only to overhear one of the salesman trying to pitch a bizarre potion. "A love potion?... How in the hells would that work?" the shinobi thought. The love potion wasn't the only thing that the ninja found odd. There were other things that the merchants pitched that gave an equally fraudulent impression. Though it wasn't something that was worth dwelling on. He doubted that there was anyone dumb enough to fall for the scam, especially after two individuals in succession expressed disinterest in the product. Though he was sure that these potions were not the worse offenders when it came to what happens in this underbelly so he would traverse onward through the stalls.
A soft roll of thunder grumbled overhead and the rain picked up. The stalls and looming buildings blocked the worst of the rain and wind, but it was still unpleasantly damp as Vincent moved away from the potion seller. It was starting to look like he wouldn’t find anything useful here. He was about to give up and just buy a new gun at a more legitimate store in the morning.
Vincent ducked under an awning and peered down the alley, giving it one last look before he gave up. He overheard a female voice, polite but firm, telling the sleazy potion salesman that she didn’t need love potions. The man didn’t give up with her, apparently deciding she was a better target than Vincent had been. But when her next response came icy and dangerous, the seller finally decided to move on. His voice drifted away. Did that tactic of selling every actually work? Did people buy the potions just to get him to leave them alone?
He sighed and turned to leave, to return to the inn he’d called home since arriving in Sonora. It had been foolish to think he’d be able to find exactly what he needed in this strange world. Everything was different here, so of course ammo would be. He’d find a new gun. It wouldn’t be Cerberus, but it would work. But as he was turning, a young blonde woman brushed into him. Her shoulder bumped into his chest. When she apologized, he recognized her voice. She’d been the potion seller’s other victim. He looked down at her. She looked as bedraggled and uncomfortable as he felt in the endless Sonoran rain.
“Sorry,” Vincent muttered too. “I was just trying to get out of here. It’s too crowded.” He looked around in distaste at the swell of people flowing further into the alleyway. This had been a mistake from the beginning.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Oh, well, he was quite tall! Stella obtained a closer look at the man as he stopped to apologize to her as well. The most striking thing about him were his eyes, but she remembered that it was quite rude of her to stare at a stranger. If she were younger then she would have blushed in embarrassment! Instead, she continued her polite smile as she brushed her damp fringe away from her eyes. The rain really was beginning to leave a chill within her slender frame as she resisted the urge to wrap her arms around her chest. It really had been foolhardy of her to venture this far into Sonora unawares. At least the worst of it was simply overzealous salesmen and bumping into strangers accidentally. Stella really had no wish to instigate a fight or stumble into one due to her ignorance. [break][break]
"I was as well, in all honesty." Stella glanced back over her shoulder in mild distaste at the packed alley and so many people selling and purchasing questionable wares. Crowded areas did not bother her all that much, but even she felt a little overwhelmed by it all. Stella turned her attention back to the man with a pensive expression on her features. He must know the way out of here, right? She disliked imposing on someone she had literally bumped into, but she hoped he would not mind showing her a little kindness. [break][break]
"Please forgive me for imposing, but may I ask for your aid in showing me the correct path out of here?" Her smile was still pleasant and polite but she could not help the hopeful glint in her eyes. If he declined, then she would simply part ways with him and hope for the best. Stella mostly wished to find a decent place for shelter to wait out the rain for a time.

The ninja took glances at the other stalls to observe the illegal wares. In honesty, Keimusho didn't account for being unable to recognize a multitude of the items here. He never gave himself much chance to just sit and relax so he never really noticed how drastically the technology was from his world. One stand advertised bootleg cellphones. A cell phone? What in the seven hells was that?
He would proceed to look at other stands. His eye particularly drawn to the weapon stands. It was probably in his best interest to get his hands on another weapon eventually just on the off chance that it was needed. If he would ever try to get his hands on another weapon it couldn't be anything to bulky. Maybe daggers? He used them early on in his shinobi training, until he realized that short swords like a kodachi were even more effective in his arsenal. The kodachi he used had better range than the daggers that most shinobi in his world utilized. It also gave him the luxury of utilizing samurai abilities as well.
Taking more than a slight glance proved to be a mistake as the Anima in his weapon suddenly appears. "Don't you think of using another weapon," it announces to Keimusho. However, it was loud enough to be heard from others. Could the timing be any worse? He never accounted for the oni-like creature to decide to reveal himself while the ninja was using the hide ability. He also did not realize that this particular form would not be hidden as well considering that it was his weapon at its core. "Seven hells.. could you not just appear at any and every time you see fit?" he muttered to the Anima. Without a word it simply disappeared, but not without a few glances from bystanders. Confused and/or concerned as to why they saw a floating demon-like creature. Keimusho hoped that it didn't cause to much attention to be drawn near him, but luckily for him the predicament didn't cause the Hide ability to cease.
The blonde woman seemed equally distasteful of the crowded alleyway. They were stuck together, huddled under an awning in the cold rain, trapped in a sea of people going about their various less-than-legal enterprises. Vincent briefly wondered what had brought her here in the first place. She stood out starkly in this grim place.
There was a hopeful look in her face when she spoke again, asking if he’d help her find the way out. Ah. Well, about that. Vincent stared over her head and looked around, realizing he’d gotten himself turned around and slightly lost. He blamed all the vendors pushing their wares into his face, making him lose concentration. “I would,” he began. “But it seems I’ve gotten myself lost down here, too. I’ve never been here before.”
He looked back down at her. She was even less prepared for this weather than he was! Her thin shirt couldn’t be providing any warmth or protection from the rain. He sighed inwardly. There was no way he could leave her alone here to fend for herself. Maybe there was a hidden strength or magical talent he couldn’t see, but to his eyes she looked quite helpless. “But you can come with me. We’ll find an exit,” he promised. Then he shrugged off his black cloak. It was wet from the rain, but certainly better than what she wore. Anyway, he still had a long-sleeved shirt on beneath it. “Here. You look like you might freeze to death first.”
Then Vincent turned away from her and narrowed his eyes, trying to figure out where he’d come from in the twisting mess of stalls, shops, and people. But something else caught his eye. Something very much not human. A floating red creature, too far away to completely make out the details. It hovered near a weapons vendor. The people walking past it gasped and moved away, giving the strange creature a wide berth. “Do you see that?” he asked the woman softly, gesturing to the red creature. Maybe it wasn’t an abnormality in Sonora. He’d not been here long enough to really know. It didn’t seem openly hostile… yet. But Vincent still prepared himself to intervene if it proved dangerous. Too bad he hadn’t found that ammo after all.
[attr="class","curragepost"] The blind leading the blind, then? Stella could not help but laugh a little in amusement as she shook her head. It was quite easy to get turned about within this place and she could not blame the man for falling into the same predicament. At least he was willing to aid her! "Well, are we not two lost souls, then?" she mused with an amused smile. An inside joke to herself considering her ability to see the souls of those that had passed on as well. Her violet eyes shifted as she attempted to seek out some sort of opening, but it really was difficult with the rain and how many people were walking about. Sonora really needed to come with a map for each newcomer here. Then again, she surmised she would still have become lost even with one. [break][break]
Surprise flickered across her features when she saw him taking off his cloak and holding it out to her. Stella felt the instant refusal bubble against her lips, but she was feeling somewhat cold from the rain. A soft sigh escaped her as she took the offered cloak before smiling gratefully up at the man. "Thank you. I was caught out in the rain unprepared, I admit." The fabric was damp from the rain but it did not matter to her as she wrapped it around her shoulders. The fabric bunched along the ground with her much shorter height and she could not help but grab at it to keep it from becoming dirtier should she begin walking. What a damsel in distress she had become as she relied upon this stranger's kindness to lead her out. [break][break]
See something? Stella glanced around him to see what he was speaking about. A demonic like creature that disappeared as soon as she set her eyes upon. "A daemon?" she mused aloud. No, she did not sense the familiar taint that spoke of the Starscourge that each of those monsters carried. It was simply a very disconcerting creature that she did not quite know about. "Yes, I do. I have not witnessed such a creature before. I sense no inward taint coming from it, though. Perhaps it is a spiritual being allied with that man?" If it proved to be hostile then she would interfere to prevent any harm.

Great now there was commotion going on thanks to the Anima revealing itself. Unsurprisingly people started making it their goal to leave the area. A few of the shopkeepers would follow suit and decide to suddenly close. Though he was irked that the Anima decided to show itself randomly once again, the ninja was also frustrated that it had to be this way. The creature wasn't necessarily one that most people gravitated towards in his world (at least not the ones of the adventuring or scholarly type), but they wouldn't have been so alarmed to the point of fleeing.
Amidst the confusion he once again overheard the conversation of the two individuals whom declined the purchase of a love potion. The cloaked man inquired like many other on whether or not they saw "it". As expected the blond-haired woman would respond yes. In speculation she would point the Anima out as a spiritual being paired allied with "that man". Was it just a coincidence? Or did she see Keimusho through his Hide ability. If it were the latter then that was a huge eye opener for Keimusho. Keimusho realized that there was little to no point in speculating and due to this he decided to dispel the Hide ability.
Unfazed by the on pouring rain the ninja walked towards the two individuals discussing the matter. "Greetings," the ninja says while giving a bow. "I trust that you aren't too bothered by the slight commotio-"
"Yes the slight commotion," said the oni-like creature said as it appeared once more.
Vincent was glad when the woman took his cloak without complaint. She needed it more than he did right now. He noticed she gathered up the too-long ends so it didn’t drag through the muck of the alleyway. That was kind of her, though he'd probably not have even noticed some extra dirt on it. A daemon? Vincent didn’t recognize the name she uttered. A type of demon, maybe? She seemed to think again though and added she’d never seen a creature like it before. Vincent was briefly confused when she speculated that it was allied with a man. What man? There were men all about, but none seemed particularly close to the creature. In fact, most people were trying to stay further away from it.
Then suddenly, Vincent saw him. There was a man clad in black with a shock of brilliant white hair. How had he missed him before? He wasn't exactly blending in with that hair. Maybe he’d been hidden from view from his vantage point. As Vincent watched and tried to figure out where he’d come from, the man walked closer to them. Instinctively, Vincent’s hand rested on Cerberus’ grip. He briefly forgot it was completely out of ammo and would do him no good in a fight. That was the whole reason he was here, after all.
But the man seemed calm and made no hostile movements. He seemed completely unbothered by the rain as he came to stand before them and bowed, almost as if in ceremony. The white-haired man greeted them, sounding formal and polite. Vincent nodded back but drew up short when the red creature suddenly reappeared again. Up close, he still had no idea what it was. Some strange denizen of Sonora, no doubt.
He was even more shocked when it spoke in a human-sounding voice, echoing the words of its apparent master. Slight commotion, they both said, apologizing for it. Vincent glanced around. Most of the other Sonorans filtering through the alleyway seemed not to care about the strange beast anymore. He supposed they’d seen stranger. “No problem,” Vincent responded, addressing the man. “I was just hoping it wasn’t a monster,” he gestured at the creature. “Not something I want to deal with right now.”
