The Dragonglaive
@noctisluciscaelum Alexander Sorel Word Count: OOC: Dialogue Color: 196fd1
Noctis couldn't pass his power onto someone else.
Caius' head darted toward Noctis at that moment, blinking a few times in confusion. His not recognizing Caius, he could deal with. He'd had his fair share of Glaives, he couldn't expect him to recognize them all. Noctis dying, that was... A bit harder to swallow. Had Caius failed in his mission that day? He said it was following his encounter with Ardyn though, which confused him even more. Hadn't Ardyn been dead for two years when Caius had left his world? But he could attribute that to maybe something that had happened after, or maybe even dying and coming back somehow, in part of the battle that he wasn't aware of? He could bull up some possibilities for that. But this? This made no sense whatsoever.
It was impossible. Alexander may have said that when Noctis, even if he couldn't remember, had granted him it in a different place, but that place was apparently swimming with some kind of energy. Which more or less didn't help Caius' situation. Caius had seen him do it. And sure, maybe Noctis was having some memory issues, but... If he remembered "dying" in the battle with Ardyn, he remembered the assault on Insomnia, right? So that wasn't it either. After a few moments where Caius was silent, looking down for a moment as the conversation continued, a thought struck him. And with it, pieces began to form together. The blind man, not blind when Caius had seen him previously. Noctis having apparently died, not having any memory of Caius, and now… Not being able to perform the ceremony for a Kingsglaive.
He thought back on Aera. She had been pulled from generations before them. Time here was a mess. And yet everyone that he had met from Eos, in some respect... Knew each other. All except for Caius. Nobody knew Caius. Nobody recognized Caius. Nobody knew Caius had even existed in that world. There was really only one answer to that, that Caius could think of.
His world was not the same as theirs. He was from another world entirely. Well, not quite. The worlds were identical... But separated by time. Two different versions of the same world. It was the only conclusion that was left to come to. Which meant that the world that Caius was from, and the world that this one was pulling people from...
Were completely different.
That... Well, Caius didn't know how to react to this realization at first. It hit him, then and there. His desire to find people he knew, to have some sort of familiarity, to stave off some amount of homesickness... To find some level of comfort in what he knew... That was it. That was gone. He was most likely completely cut off from where he had come from. All of these people coming from Eos... They were not like him. They were not the ones he knew. They were the same people, and yet... Also strangers at the same time. What he had thought to be a comforting familiarity was nothing but a red herring.
What was worse, was realizing that they were not the strange ones here. This world was clearly pulling from one particular timeline. The people he had met backed that up. The people he'd met knew each other. But Caius? Nothing.
He was the outsider.
He was a stranger to these people. But... That was it, wasn't it? He was alone in this world. His last link to his world was cut off. Or well, more specifically... He never had a link to begin with. Nobody he had met from his world was actually from it. Because he was an outsider.
He didn't understand. Why didn't the gods here take the Caius from the timeline that was so special? The same one as everyone else? Why was he cursed to live like this? Why was he here? Did a version of him even exist in that world? Or had he perhaps died and never even existed to the others here? He didn't know that answer. Part of him didn't even want to. But this knowledge it... It made him sick to his stomach. That was it. He was never going to find anyone he knew here. He hadn't so far, it turned out... And he most likely never would.
He needed to accept that he was, in that respect, alone. It was time to let go. He had managed to accept that he would no longer be a Kingsglaive, seeing as he would likely, after these two years, never go back home. But this? Accepting that he was an outsider even amongst the Eos refugees? Accepting that he was completely isolated in that respect? That... That was...
He quietly placed a hand over his mouth, quickly trying to hide that he could feel bile coming up from his throat. He would take the drink he had ordered previously and immediately slam the contents down into his throat, hoping to knock it back and not raise suspicion. Even if this man was not the King Noctis that he knew... He was still King Noctis, in some respect. And he would show him that same respect.
He was the real King Noctis anyway, right? According to this world anyway. Caius was the outsider. So once the lot of them had finished speaking, Caius would take a breath and steel himself. “You’re capable of it, even if this version of you does not know how yet” Caius brought up when he finally did speak. “With all the time nonsense going on… It might be best to not rule out alternative timelines. This might seem weird to you, but…” He trailed off, preparing himself mentally for the can of worms he was about to open. “I’ve been meaning to ask you a few questions, Your Majesty, after listening to what you had to say, but I realized that if alternative timelines are responsible, then there is no point. So I’ll try to make my point clear as I can.”
He cleared his throat. He did his best to hide his feelings. Hide his disappointment, hide the overwhelmingly depressing feelings that had struck him in these moments. Feelings that made him want to walk out and heave in a back-lot somewhere. But all he could do for now was remain stone-faced and professional. As he always had.
“There have been some… Differences. Between the things you talk about, and how I remember them. But one thing I’ve been meaning to bring up is that I have sighted one of your retainers. I sent him this way to meet with you if he could find you, but… Strangely enough, he’s blinded. A far cry from the Ignis who spent those ten years coordinating efforts for your arrival. Nor the Ignis who buried himself in his work in Insomnia, and rarely left your side when you returned. No blindness in sight.” Caius revealed. "Furthermore... The Noctis I knew was capable of sharing the crystal's power to appoint Kingsglaive. No energy fields or anything. I know that because I wasn't appointed by King Regis" He brought up. What was the difference between their two timelines that had led to Noctis being able to do it in one, and not knowing if he could even do it in another?
If he knew Ignis better, perhaps he would have found his answer. But Caius had only seen him a few times while on the field, and only knew the spectacled retainer by reputation. Caius would have never guessed though, that one person's actions had been the source of completely altering his reality from the one that stood before him.
"So at the least, I know you're capable of it, for certain. Figuring out how might be another matter entirely. But I have no doubts you'll figure it out if the need arises."
With that, he moved onto the next order of business that Noctis had brought up. He tried to push his realizations from before from his mind, but it was... Hard. Still, he tried. Even if it was difficult to deal with. It was something he would have to accept over time. He knew deep down that he had to make his own keep, with his own company. There was no home to return to, and there was nothing from home to keep him company. It was time for this world... And for the Dragonblades... To become his home. For real, and for true. He needed to move on.
He had completely forgotten he had meant to mention Somnus to Noctis. He had been jarred from those thoughts with all that had come since.
"The Dragonblades can lend their assistance when the time comes. While we typically deal with bandits and monsters, many of us have taken the cause of protecting Serentestra from threats such as Ardyn" Caius brought up. "One of my companions, her name is Yuna, she's claimed that she had an encounter with Ardyn and was capable of holding her own with him. She claimed that he reacted strangely when she tried to use a power called the Sending, or something like that. Said it was meant to be a power that her kind could use in her world, sending lost souls to the afterlife so they didn't turn into monsters. And my co-leader, her name is Celes. She is a powerful magic user, and a fierce warrior who is at least on par with myself. The two of them have pledged to said cause of handling these threats. They already know who you are, so if you meet them on the road, don't hesitate to ask for help. And I'm sure we can count on them and others when it's time."
He decided to let Noctis handle explaining Ardyn to Alexander. As far as Ardyn's fiance went... He supposed that was his cue. "I'm not sure. When I met her, she seemed pretty intent on finding Ardyn despite knowing what he's done. While she was kindly woman, I wouldn't trust her to help us defeat him."
She had incredibly strong feelings for Ardyn. Those that seemed to mirror his own for... Well... Either way, he couldn't see her fighting against him. Or helping to facilitate his end. No matter what he had done.
When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No, I won't be afraid Oh, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand, stand by me
❞
He listened to Alexander for a moment, then Caius began to speak. He listened, and even raised his eyebrows at the mention of Ignis, but was not surprised. So, this version of him that was sent was still blind… But, sharp as any blade, Noctis was sure. Caius, however, seemed… deeply troubled. His mention of Alternate Timelines piqued a curiosity… and a suspicion. One Noctis would have to address, later on.
At the Tower.
Caius passed the buck of explaining Ardyn to Noctis, but Noctis had a more pressing matter to attend at that moment.
"I've realized that, after scaling a portion of Worldsight, that our Arrival was not the product of some preconceived plan, or machination. This is random. Completely random." Noctis leaned forward on the table, lifting a hand to Alexander to indicate that he wasn't ignoring his inquiry of Ardyn.
He needed this tangent.
"We need to accept two things. Firstly… there is no way home." better to pull that bandage off, now. "Secondly, anyone pulled from these specific timelines can be brought here. Dead or alive. Which means that Ardyn may not be our most prominent threat."
Chaos. Shinryu. Any of the Warriors of Chaos that he encountered on the Last Cycle. Most of them with enough power to obliterate whole cities. If the Starscourge were to somehow empower and enslave any of them, as it did with Ifrit…
"This is a whole hell of a lot worse than I thought. There are beings out there that are potentially stronger than the Astrals." he shot a look at Caius. "You've encountered a lot while you've been here, which means we're going to have to exchange notes. Known allies, known foes. Whether I can share my power at this point is moot, since I don't have full control over them at the moment. It's just like leaving Insomnia all over again…" he held up his hand, the Ring on his finger. "Save for me having this."
He looked to Alexander. "What I'm going to need from everyone is open communication. Some of us have been here for a year or more already, and have no idea just how this world works. I'm going to need you both to help me find out just what is going on."
They all made good points. Plans were offered, and it seemed things were starting to come together. Perhaps Alexander should try and chime in on that front, maybe add his own, admittedly not as useful thoughts, considering how little time he'd actually spent here compared to the other two. He would state the obvious, first. "Not all of our abilities work." A no duh, but well, getting it out there and realizing the extent might help. "I normally have something called the Echo in my world. Lets me see into other people's past, gives me battle clairvoyance, and while in the past of other people or myself, I can rewrite history." Now that he actually said what it did for him out loud, he was really starting to realize how ridiculous it could be. Still, though. "I don't have any of that here. I don't miss it, if I'm being honest. Battle clairvoyance aside, where I've got adrenaline running, every time the Echo kicked in it gave me the migraine from hell. I've been migraine free since I got here. It's nice." He was better off without it.
He gave a light shrug. "So, sorry guys, but I'm just an adventurer here."
Still, then there was the matter of their enemies. Noctis was lucky, he just had Ardyn that was a viable threat. Alexander... he visibly grimaced as the rest started to come back. Gently resting his forehead in the palm of a hand, he sighed. "Then there are a couple... adversaries I need to disclose." He started with the one he considered the most obvious and potentially the most dangerous. "The first is Zenos Yae Galvus. Tall, long blonde hair, has a third eye that looks like a pearl. Uses katanas. If you encounter him, just leave unless you have backup. Not only is he powerful, but if, Twelve Forbid, you give him a good fight, he'll become ah... obsessed with you. It's not worth it unless you know you can kill him. Fortunately, there are no angry dragon gods around that I've noticed, so I don't see him being able to hijack and possess Shinryu again. His Echo might be working, as it's artificial, mine isn't. So be careful there."
That and he figured neither Noctis nor Caius would enjoy the idea of Zenos cooing over how much he treasured their "friendship."
Up came the next, which while he had defeated, still was a close call. A second finger went up. "Then there's... Omega. An inter-dimensional robot beetle. It has a ton of weapons, lasers, missiles, you name it. Durable as all hell, too. We more or less scratched it to death. Doesn't sound like much, but its lasers really hurt, so uh, don't get shot." That was the best he could put it. Should he have included the ability for it to split into a disturbingly pretty male and female pair, though? Eh, it'd be fine. He'd contemplated bringing up Lahabrea and Elidibus, but thinking back to how his previous encounters with them had gone, he decided it'd be best to leave them out of it. If he could handle them on his own, then without the Echo, he imagined they'd probably be much easier to manage as well. Loss of Echo worked both ways, and he figured Noctis might be able to take them on, so he just moved on as he raised a third finger.
"And then there's Emet-Selch. Smarmy beyond reason, atrocious fashion sense, insists he's not all that special. Unfathomably powerful with darkness. He... won't be a threat unless he's motivated to be a threat. He's a bit of a lackadaisical slacker otherwise. Also immortal." In short, all too familiar to some people at the table. "Also really, really good at scheming. Emet-Selch's 'gifts' are poison. Remember that." That was his advice, anyway, but he'd leave one last note. "His most dangerous aspect though is... well, remember what I said about motivated? He never had an overarching plan for world conquest or anything like that. All he wanted was to save his world and his people. Doing so would have meant the extinction of mine, but the survival of mine meant the extinction of his, so one of us had to die. If he thinks this world could save his people, there wouldn't be a thing you could say or do to make him back down. You'd have to kill him. Which becomes an even bigger issue; not only is he immortal, he doesn't quit. His motives are genuine, and he's got the willpower that comes with it. He'll keep fighting no matter how bad it gets." Heroic Willpower. It was always so handy when it was on your side and you were channeling and being awesome and effectively impossible to kill. Like the hero of your own ballad you got a really nice limit breaker and proceeded to wipe the floor and be great while doing it.
But man, it sucked when you were on the receiving end of it.

When it came to his identity, Caius left it at that. It wouldn't take much to piece together from there, considering Caius' age. He was much younger than Noctis himself, his being part of Regis' retinue would be physically impossible if he had already expressed having been part of the Ten Years of Darkness.
Caius found himself back in his calm. Talking business, talking plans... This, he could do just fine. This was his comfort zone. He was a strategist, and the pre-battle was just as much a part of the battle as the actual thing. Noctis brought up that they would need to accept there was no way home. Caius shrugged. "Already have, long have. I've been here around two years. I've crafted a life and a purpose here with the Dragonblades. I am where I need to be" he brought up. His place was with the Dragonblades. Yuna had figured he might leave them to remain at the side of his King once they had been reunited, but Caius knew where he needed to be. He would always be a Kingsglaive, and always be there to help Noctis he needed it. But he was a Dragonblade, and their goals were his focus right now. It just happened that being peacekeepers... Well, that was just part of the job.
Caius listened as Alexander went over his rogue's gallery with a quirked brow. He had made quite a few enemies, then. Once he had finished, Caius took a breath as it was his turn.
"Allies... There are the Dragonblades, my guild. Consisting of Celes Chere, Former General of her world's military. Formidable magic user, expert commander. She's my co-leader for a reason. Yuna, who I mentioned was capable of phasing Ardyn with her magic. Can summon this world's version of one of the Astrals, or at least something similar. Sound magic user. Rem, magic user. Good natured but a bit... Off on her judgement. Need to keep an eye on her. Beatrix, once General of Alexandria's military. Swift with a blade and sound with magic. A commanding force on the battlefield, and a capable warrior. Sabin, a strong martial artist. Outside of the Dragonblades, I've also met people who may be willing to help us against these threats if the time comes... Mu, a skilled shinobi. Faris, one of the strangest pirates I've ever met. And Cecil, a Knight of Baron."
Then it came to the other way around.
"Threats... There are several I have encountered here, not just Ardyn. An assassin from the world Noctis and I belong to, called Cortez. Is capable of summoning, turning and controlling daemons, though he doesn't seem to have the level of power that Ardyn does. Kuja, a master manipulator with power beyond imagination. According to Beatrix, he has destroyed entire planets. And there is the Original Sin, a large crime syndicate who has been at odds with my Dragonblades. They are some of the cruelest, most sadistic people I've ever seen."
When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No, I won't be afraid Oh, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand, stand by me
❞
More foes than allies, of course. But Noctis knew better than to let simple numbers permit hope to be abandoned. Listening to the two, he gathered his thoughts, took a deep breath, and looked over to Caius, giving a slight grin at his proclamation of his loyalty. The Dragonblades, huh? It was nice to know that the Glaives he knew of were still working to better the world, even if it wasn't theirs. Taking in the information wasn't as overwhelming as he had initially thought, but it was still a lot of information, and in that sense, it was more than he even needed. Ardyn wasn't their greatest threat. They had a literal world destroyer running around, on top of an entire syndicate that opposed the Dragonblades. A collaborative effort would be ideal, but…
"We can't expect every single like minded person to join up under one banner. So, we rip off one bandage now." he looked over at Caius again. "Follow your own path. You are exactly where you need to be, and I couldn't be more proud to call you an ally." he looked to Alexander. "If you don't mind, we can squad up and set out soon. I've heard that a certain three individuals have emerged in this world, and I need to find them again."
Ignis.
Gladio.
Prompto.
"To the point, I don't know to what extent of strength I can muster, so any head on assaults are out of the question, for the moment. We suppress the Original Sin best we can, and we monitor the other threats until we can regroup completely. I like where we are, on this, but…" he frowned. "I can't help but shake the feeling that we're missing something. Something huge."
Alex wasn't entirely sure how to take to Caius just getting kind of dismissed like that. These two were obviously more familiar with each other, at least to the extent they had some memories of their home worlds. And from what he'd heard, well, this was kind of a big deal. But he understood the logic; Alex was just some adventurer for hire here, with no place to call home save for the outside world and the occasional inn that he got. Caius had some roots here, he had a network he could work with. There wasn't much else to go for that. Besides, a part of Alex was kind of excited for the chance to actually get to see Noctis again... and actually meet these friends of his, if his intuition was right. Granted, he couldn't fault the King of Light; dying had a pretty good way of interrupting one's plans, and setting things on a different course, if that failed timeline of his was anything to go by.
So Alex looked at Noctis. "Yeah, sure. It's been a while since we did anything, and I'm not as green as I used to be." Old Alex didn't mind people pouring his drinks for him. New Alex had flashbacks whenever it happened. But this Original Sin. Well, it had the bigger threat in the fact that it was actually in this world. Zenos was not in this world. There was no Omega in this world. And almost certainly Emet-Selch wouldn't be around right now causing his special brand of bullshit that just made everyone miserable and made things all the more difficult to deal with. Gods, he really, really hoped none of the actually competent Ascians were around. Lahabrea? Sure, he'd happily take Lahabrea. Lahabrea was a moron, Lahabrea could be dealt with. Perhaps it was fortunate that, to his knowledge, out of the thirteen of them, only two ever seemed to be a real threat.
"Caius," He tried the name out. Okay, that wasn't a bad name. Maybe just ask an innocent question, get some more information on what they were dealing with? "It was great meeting you and seeing Noctis again. Before I go, any idea where Original Sin is located?" It was something that could be answered quickly, he was already getting up and getting some gil out before looking at Noctis. Were they missing something? A slightly more mischievous idea came up, why not, right? "Meh, what's the worst that could happen?" He wasn't the most superstitious guy, but he'd noticed that saying such things always got a rise out of people. But for Alex? He was ready to go.

Caius had planned to follow his path from the beginning, but he could admit it hurt just a little for Noctis to not even consider bringing him back on board officially. But it was what it was. Caius had a job to do with the Dragonblades, and he wouldn't give it up for anything. Not even His Highness. At the least, despite not really knowing who he was or having any real memory of him, Caius had given Noctis a good enough impression to make him proud to call him an ally. That in of itself got a smile from him, and a nod of thanks.
"Perhaps one day you'll decide to join us permanently, Your Highness" he teased with a small chuckle. "The hunters always talked about how interesting it was to have the Crown Prince once be part of their ranks, back when I was with them. I took inspiration from them and the Kingsglaive when organizing the Dragonblades. Sellswords and monster hunters that moonlight as peacekeepers when things go south. We like to specialize in jobs that will actually make a difference with people, and use any funds to keep us available for, equipped for and ready for threats that come around. I think you and your retinue would be a fit. My co-leader also already knows about you. I doubt she would have any complaints."
Noctis, even if it wasn't this Noctis, had once given Caius a home. It would be his honor to do the same for him, giving him a place to belong long after this business with Ardyn was over.
At the least they had their goal. The Original Sin was a priority. Which was fine with him, it had been his priority lately anyway. "Two of their lieutenants are dead, but we're having trouble finding the others" he brought up as he looked to Alexander, shaking his head. "And unfortunately, we can't find a base of operations. Not yet, anyway. They're scattered around all over Zephon."
Noctis thought perhaps something was missing, and Caius scratched his head in turn. "Not sure. All we can do is chug forward and hope for the best, really."
When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No, I won't be afraid Oh, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand, stand by me
❞
Was this just another excuse to strike out alone? Sure. Noctis had his reasons to venture forth and seize his newfound role in this world. This wasn't Eos.
He wasn't King, anymore.
He closed his eyes for a moment, and felt a slight ripple of relief wash over him. He was never once regretful of his place, his role, and his title in Lucis, but to not be shackled to any of them was more freeing than he was sure these two would understand. They had the benefit of being adventurers and heroes in their own right, and Noctis had the benefit of being, well…
Calling martyrdom a benefit is reaching, for sure.
He listened to the two, and realized that he had been out of the loop during his pilgrimage, realizing even more that he had little to no idea what they were talking about.
But that was okay. This was their adventure. He had one he needed to begin.
He leaned forward, letting out a sigh, head hanging slightly before he stood, letting the cloak drop off of his shoulders into the chair.
"I have a couple of things I need to do." he said. He placed a hand on the table, his eyes moving to Caius. "Keep going down the path you are. You've accomplished a lot. A whole lot. Keep rounding up allies so we're ready."
He looked back down at the table, noticing the Ring of the Lucii glinting in the light, almost as if an acknowledgement. A sign.
"He'd be proud of you. Hell, I'm proud of you. Potential like this is why he formed the Kingsglaive, and potential like this is why you must embrace who you are now."
He looked to Alexander, standing up straight. "I'm gonna be looking you both up once I find what I'm looking for, so, don't hide. I've had a hard enough time finding my friends, as it is, and I know they're terrible at it."
He took a deep breath and centered himself, looking at the door, giving them enough time to say what they needed to before he took his leave, bidding his farewells, and taking his leave, the cloak remaining in the chair, like a weight shed from the shoulders of an old soldier.

The Dragonglaive
Something in His Majesty's eyes as he rose to his feet told Caius a story. A story of a man that wasn't His Majesty at all, but Noctis. It was the biggest tell, the biggest reminder to Caius that this was not the King he had sworn to. It was, and yet it wasn't. He knew he had to accept that this was a different Noctis... Perhaps even a very different Noctis. Or perhaps he just... Didn't know his Liege very well. They hadn't exactly been friends. He'd had his own entourage to get along with, Caius was just another hand. Another cog in the machine, a spoke on the wheel. And it'd keep rolling with or without him. But something about the King told Caius that it was time to look at him for who he was, and not for the King that he'd known. It had been on his mind for a bit, ever since he figured it out, but how casually he spoke, how softly he spoke... How solemn he spoke. It hit him home.
But what he said hit even harder.
To hear that encouragement. To hear that someone who thought like the Noctis he knew, even just a little... Would be proud of him for what he had done... That... Gods, he didn't know what to say. Caius stared at the table a moment before forcing himself to meet his eyes without tearing up, best he could. Yes, he would keep finding allies. And ensure what was now their mission, came to fruition. They would protect this world and its people, no matter what it took.
"Your Majesty... No, Noctis. That... That means more to me than you'll ever know."
And with that, Noctis was gone. Caius loosed a long breath. The cloak, he'd left it. Part of him knew it was on purpose. He had shed something. Like the responsibility had been thrown on them. After a bit of thought, Caius picked up the cloak and slung it over his shoulder. Perhaps he'd return it someday, when Noctis was ready. He looked to Alexander.
"Look me up in Torensten if you have need of me. The Dragonblades could use a sword like yours, Alex. And I'm not talking just when it comes to the mercenary part either. When Ardyn, or Emet, or Kuja or others come around... We need the best. Not just as a fighter... But people who think as Noctis does. Those willing to put it all on the line to protect this world when others won't."
With that, he finished his drink and nodded his goodbyes. Soon enough, he took his lead.
He had a job to do.

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Welp, no idea where Original Sin was, then. That got rid of one of his options, then. Of course, the option to simply "go inside and burn the place down" was probably not something that Caius may have been up for. Still, a few well aimed Flares would... nah, best to move on, Noctis already had, anyway. "Let's see... Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto. That's them, right? I'll keep an eye out. Two when I can spare them." Those were the named Noctis gave him when he went and got himself stranded in Eorzea anyway. So unless it was someone else, then that worked. ... He wondered how the others were doing. Maybe he'd find Lightning here. Maybe Iroha had gotten back home. ... He could do without running into Shantotto though, that Lalafell or, no, what was she? Anyway, she terrified him.
Still, he mulled Caius's offer over for a moment. Join the Dragonblades? He wasn't one for mercenary work. He was more of an adventurer kind of guy. Granted, some may see that as the exact same thing, but not him. "We'll see about joining. But I will likely drop by to get everything you have on Ardyn. Noct seemed pretty tight lipped." But he could totally get the idea of thinking more like Noctis did. From their time together he'd notice they were pretty much Snark Knights Supreme. Still, at least he could sympathize with the dying part, having done that himself... in an alternate timeline, anyway. Two, actually, now that he thought about it. Keimusho said he came from a world where Alex had kicked the bucket in Doma. Hoo boy, he really wondered how that world went without him.
As the others left, Alex mulled things over for a bit. Torensten, right? They were in... actually, now that he thought about it, they were in Torensten. Shit, he could probably just walk over there right now. So what, he just went in and asked for Caius? First he had to find out where in Torensten--Ah he'd figure it out, one way or another. But any information on Ardyn would be appreciated. Kuja, too, probably. At least in this world he didn't have to worry about Zenos or Emet-Selch or Elidibus. Thank the gods for that one. But for now, he was content to finish up his drinking before moving on.
