Eillien could not help but feel her smile just stick tight to her face. All this time around Faris had reignited the fun fiery side of herself that she had kept herself tame with. This taming was because of her being a guard of the town of Sonora. Though the flustered nature that she was seeing from Faris made her chuckle lightly. Knowing full well that the words had done something inside of Faris’s brain. This was an unintended consequence of her teasing yet she enjoyed playing the game with Faris.
Though hearing that Faris was grateful that she would be there for her. This made her nod in agreement toward Faris as she finished taking her long drink of the mug. Setting it back on the table before her as Faris asked as to what she was up to up in Sonora. “Helping people as best I could. As for why I would stick there… Its easy as it reminds me of home. Minus the fact that it is a metal city where as my hometown is a stone one. A land of proud people who do everything in their power to stay alive in the harsh cold. So, it stuck with me to this day. So, I went up that way and stuck there to help others.”
Speaking normally, she could not help but speak about her time. As she could not help but let her know. Allowing her mind to actually go back and wander she had to think about the few times in the past her and Faris had shared more then a few drinks. Thinking back as to if anything had actually happened in the past. To her recollection nothing had ever happened after the many drinks that the pair of them enjoyed. “Though if I had wanted a place to move to. It would be a desert town a lot more like the place I spent a few years when I was a teen. Had great drinks and great entertainment for the eyes.”
Eillien could not help but smirk as she spoke the last little bit. There were many things that she could not help but remember from her times in Ul’dah. So many skimpy dancers around the place. As this was something that she fondly remembered. “What about yourself Faris? What have you been doing other than watching your friend?”
Faris has had a rough time now that I think about it
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
She was from the mountains. Well that made sense then. She was a fan of the cold -- not the city -- and it reminded her of home. Faris’ stomach turned at the word. Home. He didn’t know what would remind him of it. Tycoon? The sea? He’d never been much for roots, but he knew he missed the few he’d had terribly. He couldn’t blame her for taking to a place that would sit well with her memories. If he could have, he’d have done the same.
”You’ve got a good heart.” Faris glanced to Eillien. Sticking around just to help people. That sounded like something Lenna would have done. Not him. He’d gone for the money even if he’d liked to have helped people on the side. And as for his pirating…
Well, he hadn’t exactly used his spear for charity.
”There’s a desert here, but it’s not much for towns. I’ve hardly been myself. The heat could just about burn me through.” Still, would he mind stopping by the sands with a friend? He imagined it -- the two of them laughing loud at some desert village with cool glasses of ale in their hands. He thought they could have that anywhere and he’d put his heart into it.
”Eh?” What had he been doing? His stomach sank a little in shame. Crime mostly.
”Taking jobs here and there,” he said instead. ”I don’t mind being a hired spear. It’s mostly good work anyway.” On that side of his life. With Bartz and Krile in tow, they’d been too low on money to rely on the mercenary work that popped up in flyers now and again. No, he’d gone back to his roots, and talking here with Eillien, he wished he could toss them into the sea.
”I stumbled into another friend. She’s a brave lass, and strong too. Another Warrior of Light, but she’s young. She lost her family, and I’m what she’s got. A sad substitute.” Faris smirked wryly. ”Maybe I’ll raise her as a pirate. I’m just a lad plucked from the sea and thrown to work for a batch of thieves.” Faris shook his head. ”Now I’ve got the both of them in my hands.”

As she spoke about her own home, she could not help but notice the look within Faris’s features. There was just something that she would make certain to not press upon again. As she did not know just how it affected him. It took little for the pair of them to move along toward the next subject. His calling out that she had a good heart made her smile widely. There was much that she had been told over the years but this was one of the first times she had been told this.
Though hearing about the desert she could not help but think about it. Thinking on going to a desert that she was hearing about was stopped as Faris made motion of there being next to no towns. This was something that she hated as going down there and finding a great city. A great city would be great to know of. Yet knowing full well that there wasn’t made her frown a little. Also hearing that the heat was intense there.
“The heat is not that bad if you get used to it all. The last few ties I went to that desert of my parents birth I had to change out my equipment Had to make it ventilated easy enough. So, it was difficult to do things.” She could not help but speak about her last trip to Ul’dah. Despite that she did love it all. Hearing about how he was doing made her nod and smile at Faris. Taking another drink from her alcohol she could not help but take another long drink of it.
“Honestly I would say to just raise them as best you can. Do whatever that you think is right. Whatever that this may be…” She spoke as she could not help but start to feel the alcohol within her system. This was welcome as the pair of them just enjoyed the time with one another. Taking a few moments to relax alongside her friend. She knew that Faris had been through plenty and she had as well.
Taking a couple of breaths, she finished off the mug of alcohol. Letting it all burn down her throat and the smile stuck upon her face. “So is there anything you got on your mind Faris? As I am honestly contemplating on what to do. I am thinking of spending time with others like yourself.”
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
’Do whatever you think is right.’ The advice was about as helpful as a fish on land, but Faris couldn’t fault Eillien for that. It wasn’t Eillien’s responsibility to give him advice just as it wasn’t his responsibility to take charge of Faris’ problems. Eillien had her own way and Faris had his. He was thankful for the shoulder to lay them on as it was. He didn’t need anything else.
Faris shook his head. ”Wandering about with friends. Aye, that sounds like a dream. If only mine weren’t so empty-headed.” He grinned faintly and shoved a hand through his hair, pushing it behind his ear. ”I’ve got nothing but what I’ve said. With the two of them, it’s been hard enough earning gil to keep it all afloat. Work comes and goes, and I’ve got more than my mouth to feed.”
Not to mention keeping Bartz satisfied. If Faris couldn’t manage the job, he’d go taking off on his own again. A sad state when he’d run afoul of a witch’s curse that attracted him to trouble. No matter where he went, absurdity followed -- and not often the peaceful kind. With his crystal only barely unlocked, Faris had his hands full just keeping him alive. And if Bartz ran off without him…
Well, Krile’s sense for danger gave her enough sleepless nights enough as it was.
”Enough of that,” he said. He leaned back in his chair and tilted his head to the side. ”I’d like to hear a tale of your own. Something from your home world if you’ve got any. You’re the type who takes to adventure like water. I’m sure you’ve got enough to fill a book.”
A book he wouldn’t have opened. Reading was slow work, and he’d have far rather listened to it straight from the teller. He nodded. ”I’ll trade one of yours for one of mine.”

“It may be hard but we have both done it. To help friends when they need it the most I mean. With those two not knowing anything about themselves and this world… Having you there to keep them grounded and as a place of port in their mental storm. I wish that I had a friend like you here when I first arrived to help me gather myself instead of wandering as I did.” As she spoke it was obvious just how much having a friend within this world meant to her. To have Faris meant more than she could think on. Her words were a simple response to Faris as she could not help but spew it from her mouth.
As she finished up a waitress came by and Eillien lifted her mug to her to indicate that she wanted another and she got a nod of acknowledgement. Turning back to the table she heard the question and asking from Faris about a story from her own world. This was difficult as she knew of a few that she could talk about. The tattoo on her upper back a constant reminder about the largest single moment of her life. The waitress placed another mug down upon the table and she took in a breath and looked down into it as her smile slipped away as she started to speak.
“A story eh? Well I have a whopper for you but promise you do not say a word until I am finished alright Faris? This will be the story of how I got a large tattoo on my upper back and the stab wound I have on my face.” As she spoke the last bit she would show the healed over wound path that she had just hidden beneath her hair and down the right side of her face. Awaiting the response from Faris she would continue upon his acknowledgement. So she took a drink and after swallowing she took a deep breath.
“Upon my homeworld there was an enemy of my homeland. They were technologically superior to my own and her allies. Yet we never stopped struggling and fighting against them at ever venture they attempted upon our lands. I was a standard bearer for my people. So I was there upon the battlefield on the day that our people called the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Underneath a blood red and blackened moon we fought this enemy. I took a spear to the forehead to give me that scar. Yet that was not the worst thing of the day. The Falling Star or Dalamud as it was called came crashing down upon the Plain of Carteneau.” As she spoke her eyes stayed looking down into the mug as she took a drink to wet her tongue before continuing.
”Dalamud was actually a prison for what my people called a Primal. A summoned beast of immense power that subjugated entire races of people beneath their sway with only select persons being immune to their influence. Inside the moon was the eldest of all of the Primals a dragon of immense power and rage. ITs name was Bahamut… I have never felt so utterly helpless as I watched him make his prison explode in hellfire that rained down upon the planet below. The heat burned at my skin, my armor, and I swear even my very aetherical soul. That day was burned into my mind as I saw him rising above the battlefield a massive fireball within its jaws. It was within that moment that I blacked out due to the heat and the next time I awoke I was inside the snow filled fields near my home once more with a tattoo on my back that shimmers with magical energy…” She finished her story and fell silent as this was one whopper of a story and she hoped that it had kept Faris’ interest and at least gave him something to understand.
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
That was not the kind of story he’d expected.
Faris grabbed his drink as he listened, glass awkwardly at his lips. He’d asked for something adventurous -- something that could lighten the mood. Instead, his stomach dropped as soon as the word “enemy” struck his ears. It sunk further with the words “battlefield,” “calamity,” and “blood.” Still, Faris had had too many drunken nights to flinch from talk that suddenly soured the mood. It was a simple risk of the vice, and he couldn’t blame Eillien for taking it five shades darker than he’d intended.
”Ah,” he said though he didn’t really understand. Dalamud, Primals. He knew Bahamut, but couldn’t fathom how a summon had anything to do with it. None of it meant a thing to him, but the message came clear. The battle had nearly killed her. It had likely killed scores more, and it would never really leave her. He wouldn’t have guessed her as a soldier, but that was neither here nor there. They were both here now and the past was squarely behind them.
”That’s a mighty tale,” he said and it was true. It was mighty and strong and like a bitter herb on the tongue. ”I don’t think I’ve got a thing to match it.”
Still, it was only fair to try. Eillien had laid herself bare. Faris would match it out of respect.
”My world was nearly sucked into the Rift.” Faris lowered his glass and shot Eillien a wry smile. ”It’s like the doorway to nothing. Inside, time had stopped. All manner of fiends wreaked havoc there. And it all came back to the great warlock -- Exdeath.”
Faris placed his drink on the table. Where did he even begin on this one? Even now, Faris could hardly believe it all.
”He was sealed away by the crystals. Er, these magic stones. They built up the elements and the world was teetering on the edge without them. They shattered one by one until the devil was loose and he took to his army of monsters. He was after a terrible power. The Void.”
Faris stopped. What was he supposed to say about The Void? Even now, he didn’t really understand it.
”The Void’s inside the Rift,” he said. ”Exdeath went inside and we went after him. In the end, it took him and was just about to wipe the whole world of reality. We killed him first though -- me and Bartz and Krile and-” He paused. He wasn’t ready to talk about Lenna.
”It was a wild ride,” he said. ”I still think about the sight of it. He became a monster himself in the end. I’ll never forget it.” He pushed a handful of hair behind his ear. He still saw that twisted devil in the dark. It was something that shouldn’t have lived. They’d done away with it before it could manage.
”Well that’s the long and short of it, anyway.” He tossed his head towards Eillien and smirked. ”Now that we’ve aired our pasts out in the open.”

“There is no need to even attempt to match it Faris. You wanted a story and well I figure that I tell you the one story that changed me into the person that sits before you. The woman I was before I came to this world and to know yourself and others.” Eillien could not help but respond to Faris as the smile started to come back to her lips. Talking about the subject was a sore one and she could not help but finally let it all out toward the only person she had met on this world that she considered an ally and friend.
Though it was Faris’ turn to speak and to explain to her a story that came to his mind. As Faris started she heard words that she remembered from tales of the past of Eorzea. The Rift and the Void were two things that had manifested upon her world before and continued to do so in plagues toward the people of the planet. Despite the similarities she could not help but feel her own blood run cold as Faris explained what had happened leading up to a confrontation with that warlock as he called him.
Mentioning crystals Eillien could not help but nod in acknowledgement. As she knew of the power that the crystals in her world had. She could not even imagine the power that they could have inside of other worlds linked to this one. Yet it seemed that the crystals held even more sway over the world that Faris came from. “You make my story sound like the preamble to a larger story by comparison Faris. You yourself have been through a hell that I cannot imagine. Yet now you are doing better. Well better enough then before. We both are…” [/color]
She spoke as she looked down at her drink before lifting her gaze back toward Faris. There was something that she knew was being unsaid as if there was another person that Faris was not speaking about. However, she would not be pressing the subject any at all. Lifting her glass toward Faris once more. “To our past self and to our new future. Though I do have another story for you. This story was something funny. Before I came here, I was walking through a place called Gridania. It is a forest kingdom and within it one day I saw a chocobo get loose and run full force through a stall bowling over the owner who was a lalafell. A lalafell is a shorter humanoid from Eorzea.”
They have so much chemistry. This is easy to write.
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
”Hell?” Faris blinked. ”Mayhap.” He shoved his hair behind his shoulder and thrust himself back, thinking. It didn’t feel right. Not really. Not after hearing Eillien’s story, anyway. Faris was just a pirate at the end of the day -- that and a Warrior of Light. He hadn’t experienced anything like war or battle or the kind of bloodshed that Eillien spoke. And he certainly wouldn’t have described his own life as “hell.”
Still, he sat silent -- half baffled and half brooding. Maybe he wouldn’t have agreed, but he wasn’t about to go correcting Eillien on that. He didn’t want to bring up the dark thing lurking in her past anymore than he wanted to bring up the absurd branches of his.
”Aye.” Faris cast her a weak grin as he once again lifted his glass. ”To the future.” He took a long drought and felt the room haze. How much had he had now? Surely not enough to disconnect the colors like they were. Had he eaten today? He couldn’t say. ”You know, I’ve grown used to this place, I think. I’d still take home in a heartbeat but…”
Faris shook his head. ”If I could just get a ship and a crew….Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.” He glanced at Eillien, grinning faintly. ”What do you say? If I ever land myself a ship, how’d you like to sail with me? I could use the extra pair of hands.”
It was a lousy offer, he knew. With the money he was making, he could barely keep himself afloat let alone afford a ship, but it came like a flare of the heart. If he could have a ship, he’d take her in a heartbeat. The open wind would do them well.
”I’d say my stories are a little more outside the law.” He winked at Eillien and sipped again. Should he stop soon? The thought floated past without roots. He’d have water in the morning. ”It comes with the life of a pirate.”

The fact that Faris took quite a little bit to speak after agreeing to her words and continuing the conversation that they had been having. The raising of the glass between them was certainly a good thing. As for her having her friend back was most certainly the only thing that she really wanted. Knowing her own past was not being the cheeriest of pasts so she would not begin to pry anymore. There would be a chance that Faris would eventually tell her should they become closer friends.
“You know that I would also love to go back home. To go back to my Ishgard and to smell its air and listen to its people once more. Yet I know that this place… Torenstein and Sonora are honestly the only places that I feel close to home. So, I like to stay in these places.” She spoke softly and shook her head from side to side. There were many things that she would speak about but now this was all about her friend. To be there for him is all that she was going to do from now on.
Though she stopped her words to allow Faris to speak and ask his question. To have him ask her about joining his crew should he make one. It drew a wide smile upon her face as she knew the answer to Faris’ question without hesitation. “The answer to that is… Fuck yes I would join your crew. Hell, I would be there to be your right-hand woman should you have me. To travel the high seas and then for us to do whatever and pillage and drink and party.”
“As for your stories being from outside the law… I could care less. As this was an amazing thing to listen to. For me I got some of them that aren’t all that bad.” She could not help herself as the alcohol swung through her head and kept her loose lips.
Faris is the best princess, what are you talking about?
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Eillien brightened in an instant. ’His right-hand woman?’ As unlikely as it was, Faris couldn’t help but grin. The thought burst in a million colors. The bitter wind. The sea rocking beneath his boots, and Eillien -- holding her spear in one hand and a glass of ale in the other. ”We’d be the scourge of the sea,” Faris said, laughing. ”They’d know our names far and wide. Two Warriors of Light out wreaking havoc. It has a nice ring to it, I think.”
’To pillage and drink and party.’ He imagined himself with his hands on the wheel and Eillien at his side. In his dream, they were laughing.
”Well you help me find a ship, and we’ll be off. I could commandeer one, but without a crew…” Faris shook his head. ”It’s not exactly a solo venture, and it’s not an easy one at that. But the feel of the wind...Aye, there’s nothing like it.”
How long had he missed the sea? His crew? Even the power in his sword and his ill-sought gil? Longer than he’d been stranded here, that was for certain. Saving the world was all fine and good, and he’d protect innocent lives in a heartbeat, but he’d always known that the life of a Warrior wasn’t for him. With Exdeath gone, he’d taken straight back to the water.
”Did I ever tell you about the time I nearly ransomed my own sister?” Faris laughed again and drank. ”That was the start of my dealing with the crystals -- a rough start if I’ve ever seen one. They were daft -- the lot of them. Sneaking aboard a ship full of pirates! Then one of them turned out to be the princess of Tycoon. We don’t usually make a business of kidnapping, but when it falls straight from the sky…”
Faris shook his head. ”Now that was an awkward moment. She carried a pendant -- the same as mine.” Faris fished inside his scarf and pulled at the chain of his necklace. He held out the gleaming stone in his hand. ”It was just about the only clue I had to my past. I had a half dozen reasons to sell it, but I never did. I guess I knew, somehow.”
He tucked the pendant back beneath his tunic. ”Turns out I was a princess before I fell into the sea. Can you imagine it? Me? A princess?” Faris laughed. ”Just goes to show that blood doesn’t mean a thing.”
