The armored-individual's response was rather puzzling for Keimusho. Did that mean that he was a race he was unfamiliar? Or was he something beyond modern comprehension? Either way it was clear that he wasn't from Keimusho's world nor the world that they inhabited now. Perhaps the warrior's armor was the sole similarity to Keimusho's homeland.
After the individual turned his attention to the announcements, the shinobi would follow suit. The rules were simple enough and it seemed that the coordinators of the event went to great lengths to ensure that bystanders will be unharmed. The fact that the competition was a team effort kinda relieved Keimusho. He didn't want his broken horn to impair his performance, so being paired with two more individuals would hopefully remedy the handicap. Keimusho would continue to listen closely so he could know who he would be paired with.
First Keimusho's "name" was announced. The announcement was simple yet still managed to elicit such a response from the crowd. The next two names announces were a pleasant surprise. And what a coincidence it was. Keimusho would be paired with Caius and the man shrouded in genji armor. Apparently his name was Gilgamesh, it certainly wasn't a name that was common in Keimusho's homeland. The description that the announcer gave was really thought-provoking though. It was stated that he was from another world just as the ninja speculated, but he was also referred to as "The Voidwalker." The ninja could've pondered on what that meant all day if it weren't for the very near competition. Caius's commanded much less head scratching. He was simply intrigued that the mercenary managed to slay a Lich. If that was true then it was no wonder that the Dragonblades has the reputation that it does.
After the announcements came to a close, the ninja would traverse towards the camp to strategize with his teammates.
The organizer for this grand spectacle positioned himself before the growing throngs of people and took the time to elucidate the competition's rules and regulations, many of which openly bothered the naturally rambunctious Gilgamesh, who felt they restricted his ability to express his talents in full. Of course, he certainly didn't want the innocent to be caught in the crossfire, but a warrior must be allowed to express his strength in full, for crying out loud!
That it was a team effort made it even worse -- how could he bask in the spotlight when it was compulsory for all participants to share? Like a six-year-old that was refused a piece of candy by his overly doting parents, the swordsman simply mumbled to himself in complaint while the members of Team A—which included the long-haired, firearm-toting man—were gradually displayed for the crowd to throw praise towards. Then, it was time for the second group of contestants, Team B, to receive the same treatment.
First, the silent assassin was introduced by the handle 'Mu'. Ever the imaginative fellow, Gilgamesh tried to recall where he might have heard that name, but was only able to produce the mental image of a Holstein cow grazing listlessly on a pasture. He wasn't very good at word association, either. It didn't seem to matter to the crowds, though, since his aura of intrigue and mystery served as a point of excitement for them; to think that a killer of men could draw such a positive response truly surprised the burly armored giant.
Then came his own introduction, and the moment all eyes landed on him, Gilgamesh went and thrust both of his folded arms into his chest and snapped his gaze upward in a theatrical display of bravado, smirking widely as if he had already won the contest before it ever began. That is, until he got called the 'Voidwalker', which provoked a shocked gasp from the overly eccentric weapons collector, who wasn't able to get his twopence in before the announcer moved straight on to reveal their final teammate. Why did he have to go and remind him of Exdeath so mercilessly?
To his envious indignation, Gilgamesh could only blink and scowl as the one called 'Caius Dragelion' was utterly showered with the praise and adoration he so rightfully deserved, feeling even more upset when he just... didn't react to any of it. How?! How could someone with this big of a reputation choose to willingly turn away from the affections of the people?! He was like the world's worst sponge; hardly good enough to soak up a glass of water, let alone the cheerful cries of an adoring public.
But more important than his abundant sense of modesty was the fact that the festival's organizer called this fellow a 'Lich-slayer'. Broken, rusted gears churned in the back of Gilgamesh's mind as he began to speculate on the kind of power this Caius fellow must have possessed to accomplish a feat so illustrious and difficult as that.
It would have to wait for now -- they had a competition to vanquish!
”Tch, what poppycock! 'Voidwalker', my left foot! I got thrown out of that miserable, wretched place!” Gilgamesh complains as he enters the tent with a huff, apparently ungrateful to no longer be a prisoner of the Interdimensional Rift, yet it was more out of annoyance that he was insinuated as having some kind of voluntary ability to do so. If only that were the case! ”Bah, it isn't important.” He dismissively waves a hand as if brushing the topic aside, set on automatically tuning out whatever rhetorical commentary either of his allies of circumstance might have to provide. ”It appears that we are all in this together, regardless.” If only this weren't the case... ”How shall we seize victory today?!”
At least he was in good enough spirits to lend humor to the collaborative aspects of this event. But Gilgamesh was certain he had seen that blond fellow before; even a goldfish would have been able to remember him, and the self-proclaimed purveyor of weaponry just didn't have the capacity to think of anything other than showcasing his legendary talents right now. Bummer.
Caius was curious about this "Voidwalker" moniker for Gilgamesh. Technically, weren't they all Voidwalkers? People who walked through the void and ended up in this world? So Caius was a little curious when the red man would let out an offended gasp at the remark. It was an interesting nickname at that. Had the warrior researcher that the announcer seemed to be, decided to make that one up himself? Or had Gilgamesh shoot it to him when they were asking for introductions, and simply forgot?
Of course, Caius didn't know about the actual rift that Gilgamesh was irritable about. So it was all guesswork at best.
He supposed it didn't really matter, in the end. They were on the same team, and they would be fighting together. Nicknames mattered little here, what mattered was the fight in front of them. Though when Gilgamesh would follow into the tent, complaining about the nickname, Caius couldn't help but let out an amused chuckle.
"Well the only way he'd know you were a "Voidwalker" was either because he made something up, considering most of us popped out of portals into this world... Or you gave him a catchy sounding nickname and forgot. Cool nickname though" Caius joked lightly toward Gilgamesh as he calmly and graciously greeted Mu when he entered as well. "It will be my honour to fight at your side once more, Mu."
Gilgamesh inquired as to how they would attain victory today. That was music to Caius' ears, and he gingerly nodded his head to acknowledge it was time to move forward. He scratched his chin, pondering their situation a moment. "By what I recall of the rules... I think it would be best for us to stick together. While we can fight separate opponents, in order to score more points from the team... We should try and work together at every point we can in order to fell the most beasts as quickly as possible. Furthermore, keeping an eye on each other means that if one of us goes down, as unlikely as that is... We'll be able to quickly return them to safety to prevent disqualification, and return to the battlefield while wasting as little remaining time as possible. But we absolutely should make sure we protect each other" Caius would recommend, pacing about as he spoke. "Not only do we stand at a serious numbers disadvantage if one of us goes down, our rate of slaying will drastically decrease. Victory will become almost impossible if one of us goes down. So between all of that, splitting up and moving too far from each other is out of the question. We need to focus on speed and efficiency, while also keeping our fellow team members safe."
Caius appraised the two of them a moment before moving to another question. This was one of those moments where that side of him as the Dragonblades' co-leader came out. A tactician surveying the battlefield, surveying the conditions of the fight and that of his men. Appraising the strongest method to move forward.
"Do either of you know magic? Shielding and healing magic especially. Though combat magic would also be useful, we may be able to combine some spells together depending on what each of us possess - for maximum efficiency in taking these monsters down as quickly as possible."
He made a motion to indicate he welcome suggestions and ideas from them as well. They were a team with no leader, after all.

"Likewise Caius." Keimusho responded to the mercenary. "Did you manage to find the Original Sin?" he asked now that they were away from the public from the time being. Considering the impression that he got from Gilgamesh earlier, he would assume that the armored individual would be completely apathetic on the matter. It was safe to assume that they cared for little else but combat and the glory that came from it. Which was not a problem at all. In fact, it likely meant that he would be a very formidable ally in this event.
As Caius went over the rules once more, Keimusho thought about how best to approach this competition. The ninja obviously thought about going about it stealthily at first. However, he was wary about how much time that approach would take. When Caius asked about their capacity of magic, Keimusho figured that an aggressive approach may have to be the way to go. But he had to ask himself, "What abilities would be useful and should I make use of them?" He was also wary off potentially showing too much. Bunshin was an ability that was definitely out of the question. He only used that in the most dire of situations. He also didn't want to show many of his other ninjutsu abilities in public. Ill Wind was fine as it did not utilize mudra signs, but it was only good for stunning the enemy for a second. "That would only leave... iaijutsu," the ninja thought as he pulled his kodachi from its sheath. The sword vividly glowed a shade of amethyst purple.
Behind the ninja a sprite-sized being manifested besides the ninja's head. The red-skinned being had two horns on its head and a pair of long fangs. It was essentially an oni floating next to Keimusho.
"So you finally are thinking of utilizing me," it said. Keimusho looked surprised not because he didn't know this being, but because it didn't speak to him since he left his homeworld. It was the artificial soul that lived in (or essentially is) Keimusho's kodachi, the Anima. "Oh so it does speak," Keimusho responds. "I was just taking a nap. Where are we anyway?" it asked. "That would explain why you've been quiet for so long. And why you don't remember that I have been using you." Keimusho says while scratching his head. He didn't even realize that his weapon could nap. He just thought it became an empty husk when he came here. "Just get ready for an upcoming fight. I'll explain the rest later," he told the Anima. "Fine. Fine," it said before it dissipates its speaking form.
Keimusho sheathed the sword almost forgetting the situation he was in. "Apologies for that slight interruption. As for my abilities I will only be utilizing a few in order to not reveal too much. I am can utilize an ability that allowed me to prevent enemies from utilizing their abilities for a short while. As for shielding and healing I have two abilities that allow me to do that for myself, but not for others. Everything else for today will have to be done in close combat."
Always the odd banana, Gilgamesh could feel his own irrelevance taking root as the other two figures carried on with talks of strategy and teamwork. Regardless of what kind of personable atmosphere the blond fellow had hoped to create between the triumvirate of warriors, the largest one among them could not help but recognize exactly just how far out of his element he really was. He should be fighting other warriors, not the likes of wild creatures—
As quickly as the thought occurs to him, an idea strikes Gilgamesh like a bolt of lightning from the fingers of Ramuh himself. Of course, being a contestant of the Festival meant he was required by mandate to get involved with the dealings of his cohorts by circumstance. But this time would be different! This time, he would be useful!
”What need of restorative magic is there when you have me?!” Gilgamesh arrogantly steps forward with both arms folded against his metal breastplate, flashing a toothy grin in the way only his stupid face could project. ”I have studied the ways of the beast-kin! Their techniques are as good as my own!” The art of Blue Magic is an eccentric field of study, requiring even the most ardent of practitioners to repeatedly endanger themselves for the sole purpose of mastering their craft. In admitting this, Gilgamesh aimed to cement himself as a crucial element for their team's inevitable success.
He then shrugs almost halfheartedly, casting an errant glance in no particular direction upon recalling another detail that the warrior was practically certain would get him typecast in a negative mien. ”I mean, I might also have a rudimentary grasp of White Magic, but a practiced wizard I am not.” Gilgamesh preferred the rush of adrenaline that came with enduring the blows of his enemies, the feeling of accomplishment from denying foes the satisfaction of cutting down his allies.
Although his role was usually one of obstructive antagonism, it was a role that Gilgamesh arguably demonstrated a unique talent for. If these two seasoned veterans were to pay heed to the blundering warrior and capitalize on his strengths as they were presented, and he proves a most invaluable asset.
But, odds were pretty solid that he'd just be delegated to the position of a pocket healer.
Mu would ask about the Original Sin once they were settled. Caius nodded his head toward his question, figuring Gilgamesh didn’t seem the type to care. “Yes and no” Caius answered. “We have yet to locate their base of operations, or their leader. Instead I’ve been hunting down their lieutenants who are in charge of their operations. Darlene, head of their slave trade operations, and Charon, their magic tutor and fronter for their magical fraud have both been dealt with. Now that we’ve likely managed to severely piss them off though, the cause of the… Incident we dealt with before is the least of my problems.”
He refrained from saying “bounty” in front of Gilgamesh, deciding to keep that detail a secret. He didn’t want to deal with him deciding to cash on the Original Sin’s bounty now, when they needed to be working together.
With that bit of business taken care of, it was time to focus on the topic at hand. Caius listened intently as the two would give a description of their abilities. He reviewed them carefully, though he was surprised when some sort of creature would land on Mu’s head. He hadn’t realized that Mu had taken a companion of his own as well. He supposed that was what happens when one doesn’t write. You miss so much. He would have to make a mental note to keep in touch in the future.
“Since I don’t know enough about your abilities to give a proper strategy, I’ll leave it up to your own judgement how to proceed. You’ve proven yourself capable to me, so I have no doubts that your judgement will be a sound one. If I see anything to throw your way when we’re on the field though, I will” He spoke to Mu before looking to Gilgamesh. “As for Mr. Voidwalker here… If I might make a suggestion, Gilgamesh…” He trailed off as his lips twitched into a grin, thinking back on how Gilgamesh had presented himself earlier. “I want you to be our big gun. I want you in the front, slicing and dicing. You’re the largest and bulkiest of the three of us, and your armor looks like it could soak up a lot of damage, so I think a heavy tank role would suit you best. But that doesn’t mean we have to ignore your white magic. I’d recommend you always remember to keep an eye out for where Mu and I are. If one of us looks like we’re having trouble, lend a hand or at least a heal. Don’t forget that if one of us goes down, then we lose time in having to bring them back to the safe area. If we fail to do so, then we’re disqualified. Forgive me for doubling down on this, but… One of us going down is completely unacceptable in these circumstances, so I’d recommend to the both of you in making the safety of your comrades a priority.
As for myself…” He trailed off as he would hold out his hands. Two weapons would materialize and float around him. He would pick the longsword and grasp it, aiming it forward. “I can launch shotgun-like firearms from this blade” He remarked as the sword disappeared and he took the other one – a shortsword with a blade on each end. He would pull them apart though, to reveal two daggers with the same triggers as the longsword. “These can fire less powerful firearms, but with quicker firing capabilities. I also have access to some offensive and healing magic, though I am no proper mage. I can move around the battlefield quickly though, as Mu can attest. I’ll probably rotate functions depending on the situation, if that’s alright with you lot.
The competition should be starting soon. Anything else to cover before we head out?”

It won't do to twiddle our thumbs and pray for a saviour.

Keimusho listened intently as Caius explained the situation pertaining to the Original Sin. "Slave-trade and magic? Tis' plain to see that you're dealing with no mere bandit group then." And as the ninja took into account that they were also able to place a bounty on Caius' head it was clear that they likely also possessed a large amount of influence. Keimusho had the desireto ask for more details ;however, this not the the time nor the place to discuss this further so Keimusho simply nodded as Caius finished explaining his opposition with the Original Sin.
After Mu and Gilgamesh gave Caius a rundown of their abilities (or at least the abilities that they were willing to use this day for Mu's case), Caius would do the same. Keimusho took a closer look at Caius' weapons as the Dragonblade materialized them. Keimusho only really got to see the weapons from a distance since Caius would simply put them wherever they went instead of sheathing them. It was a most useful ability indeed. All of the mercenaries weapons were gunblades or gundaggers in the case of the latter two weapons. Keimusho had seen his fair-share of these bladed guns from the Garlean Empire, but never in the form of a dagger. He wondered why their shinobi never used such weapons, you'd only have to pull the trigger if you got caught. He also wondered what else could be made? A gunaxe? A gunspear? Keimusho dreaded the thought of seeing the weapons he conjured in his imagination in the hands of the soldiers of the Garlean Empire.
After the mercenary went over strategy Keimusho reached inside of his armor to retrieve two smokebombs. "I believe that these could prove useful in a bind. You'll never know when you could need to obscure your opposition's vision," he said as he would motion to hand them to his two teammates.
Impatient for the bloodbath that awaited them, Gilgamesh produced a sullen scowl when the flaxen-haired swordsman assumed lack of foresight (probably the most reasonable thing to do here) and, like a parent trying to remind a child of how dangerous it was to play in traffic, attempted to reinforce the importance of ensuring the safety of his companions by telling him to avoid running off or leaving them behind to fend for themselves.
”You speak as if I lack the capacity to pay attention or listen.” That was debatable. Sure, he wasn't paying any kind of conscious attention to their conversations about something called the 'Original Sin' -- or the presence of a strange wraith hovering close to the horned ninja -- but if it didn't involve ancient weapons of lore or a chance to prove his mettle against the most powerful opponents, it wasn't worth committing to memory. ”I know how to follow rules as well as I can juggle my spear.” That reminded him, he ought to practice some of that later on, once this flimflam was done and over with.
With a dramatic stamp of his foot, a brilliant flash of light envelops Gilgamesh from head to toe, dissolving away to reveal an incredible suit of Oriental armor had materialized over the giant warrior's immense form, his face all but obscured behind a helmet of equally impressive make; a memento from his own world, bequeathed upon him as proof of his merits in the art of combat. Even among collectors, this set of gear existed within the realm of legends themselves, nigh impervious to all types of damage both conventional and magical -- assuming the amount of times he's had to fend off would-be thieves and treasure hunters spoke anything of its purported value.
”I commit nothing less than my entire life to the fray and vow to keep the two of you unscathed,” promised Gilgamesh with fervor, rapping his chest plate with his knuckles for emphasis, ”Just don't expect any miracles from me! I'm a swordsman, not a saint.”
Hmm. Saint Gilgamesh. That does ring a nice tune...
Seriously, though, these people better get this shindig under way soon. All this tension and waiting was murder on the brain! And the feet. Mostly the feet, though.
"Seems not" Caius spoke toward Mu when he commented that his opponents did not seek to be what they had been expecting. But that would wait for another time. He wanted to inquire to Mu about possibly joining the fight himself at some point, but he understood that for now, they had other matters to deal with. The newcomer though, seemed less than pleased about Caius doubling down on some of the more important fundamentals to their victory. He regarded him with a cold stare, but said nothing. That would be for him to decide.
Though the transformation of the man's armor was certainly interesting, and Caius took a moment to admire the craftsmanship of the mystical armor that had materialized. Caius had suggested him as their front-liner both due to his impressive size, his heavy armor and, honestly, his seeming desire to be the center of attention. Caius could play any role, and he didn't really care who the crowd saw at the forefront so long as he was able to win some money and attention for the Dragonblades. That was all he cared about.
"Hmm" He responded curtly and in short as he nodded his head, seeming to give his approval of the change and his goal. "Mu and I are probably best suited to speed striking while Gilgamesh is taking the frontal assault. And my healing magic can keep the big man running."
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT IS TIME FOR THE HUNTING FESTIVAL TO BEGIN! ALL TEAMS PLEASE REPORT TO THE SQUARE!"
With that announcement, Caius took a breath as he nodded his head.
"We have our plan, we have our roles. May the Astrals guide us to victory."
With that, Caius departed from their tent. All the teams had assembled, and the crowds had been fenced off by magical barriers erected around the contest area in order to keep the combatants and the monsters walled in. Caius also noticed that they had wheeled in a great deal of crates, and he could almost sense the beasts lurking within... Also hear them. Because they did not sound happy.
"With that, all the teams are assembled! We wish you all the best of luck! And with that... MAY THE FESTIVAL OF THE HUNT... BEGIN!"
The host would be quick to bail behind the barrier as the crates would be opened. Three Fangs would quickly rush Caius, Mu and Gilgamesh as the other teams would begin fighting immediately...
It was utter chaos.
The amount of blades clashing with beast were throwing Caius for a loop.
"We need to move from the square as soon as possible if we're to keep from losing each other in all of this!" Caius called to the other two, though would have to quickly summon his blade as the wolf-like monster would attempt to break Caius' head with its fangs. Caius would block, and hold out his free hand as a spell would charge...
"Fire."
The creature was set aflame on contact, and was sent flying back in the process as it hit the ground hard. An announcement would sound over the intercom.
"AND THERE IT IS, FOLKS! THE FIRST SET OF POINTS GOES TO TEAM B! WHAT A FIERY START TO OUR FESTIVAL!"
This only seemed to rile up the other two Fangs though... And the fire had attracted the attention of other beasts. Breaking from the crowd would not be easy.

Keimusho would follow Caius outside of the tent. In the square, Keimusho simply closed his eyes and meditated as he awaited for the announcement for the competition's commencement. Surprisingly enough, the snarls of the caged beasts did not waver Keimusho's concentration.
There was little time to hesitate once the hunting festival commenced. Three wolf-like beasts would immediately set their sights on Team B. One of theses beasts in particular would eye down Keimusho. The beast would not hesitate in its attempt to attack the ninja as it immediately pounced towards the ninja. Keimusho rolled forward, gracefully dodging the beasts attack. That would be the moment the ninja decided to unsheathe their weapon. Keimusho swiftly turned around to strike at beast, giving it a single slash of his blade and a kick to boot. This would intensify the already present rage possessed by the beast, but not more so than what was going on very closely.
Caius would incapacitate one of the Fang's kin via a fire spell. Angered the Fang engaging with Mu looked back and forth between him and Caius. Surprisingly the beast would opt to attempt to attack Caius instead. "Mistake," Keimusho simply said. Saying no more, Keimusho would utilize the Enpi technique as he cut the air sending a blue slash attack towards the distracted wolf. As the Fang started charging towards Caius the projectile would connect with the beast, removing it from the equation.
This would prompt yet another announcement from the intercom.
"TEAM B SWIFTLY GARNERS UP ANOTHER SET OF POINTS JUST AS QUICKLY AS THE FIRST! WILL TEAM A BE ABLE TO MATCH TEAM B'S MOMENTUM?!"
