"Don't you lot have something better to be doing this time of night?" Thancred quipped, resting his gunblade against his shoulder for a moment as he taunted the shambling corpses. What a world to wake to. The land was not a familiar one, and he had a hunch he wasn't on the First or the Source. Perhaps it was another Shard? What manner of trouble had the Exarch conjured up now? He had little time for pondering such useless questions. Survival was paramount at them moment.

The moon was high in the star speckled sky, casting bright light on the denizens below. Thancred's white coat and silver hair stood out easily, likely the reason why the zombies had flocked toward him once he'd approached. "Prepare yourselves." Thancred growled before launching himself at the bodies. His gunblade flashed and the two enemies fell in front of him. They weren't terribly hearty but the sounds of rustling in the grass and trees said they had numbers on their side.

"What a place to wake in." Thancred sighed. At the very least he could see why he had been summoned to this place. It was being beset by those of the void. The ascian's reach knew no bounds it would seem. His body thrummed with the need to vanquish the fiends but he didn't know just how many of them there was. Or how to leave this place and as much as Thancred enjoyed a good fight, this would be nothing but a waste of energy until he was overrun. Perhaps if he ran north or towards someplace on a hill? Most towns seemed to be in either of those places. The only question that remained was just how many of the voidsent would be blocking his path.

The moment those words echoed from the a short distance away, the immediate area was blanketed by a bright holy light. While it would do nothing to Thancred himself, the undead caught within said light would immediately begin writing in the closest thing they could probably feel to pain. Most of the weaker ones would be outright destroyed, but the more hardier ones would still take a fair amount of damage. Either way, it succeeded in one thing; cutting down the numbers of living corpses, even if only a little bit. And the ones that were still standing were weakened, which would give Thancred an easier time dealing with what was left. No doubt a welcome development.

Should he look to find the source of the spell, he'd find a young girl in white robes, probably no older than 15 or 16, wielding a large metal hammer; though, in this case, she seemed to be pointing it toward the general area of Thancred and the undead monsters approaching him, as if she was using it to focus her spell. At first glance, she didn't seem like she'd be out of place as a Conjurer from Eorzea, though two things would potentially come off as strange; namely, her very obviously not wielding one of the wooden wands or canes universally utilized by Conjurers, and the fact that the spell she just used simply doesn't exist in his world.

As for what she was doing here, that was simple. While the temple was always overrun with undead and demons, it seemed that there was an unusually (read; even more than normal) large number of undead in the area. Joanna was asked to look into it and, if possible, at least lower their numbers back to a more manageable amount. Given that undead was the one thing her world's version of White Magic could be used against offensively, she was more than happy to take up this particular job. She hadn't expected to find a random stranger in the mix, though. "Are you okay?! I gotta say...I didn't think there'd be anyone else all the way out here."

The light was a blinding and unexpected, lighting up the area around him like it was day. There were more undead than he'd been able to spot before but the light tore through the majority of them. It had to be a spell, even if it was unlike any Thancred had seen before. It even put Y'shtola's Holy to shame. However, who was he to question a turn in his favor? He dashed forward to the nearest weakened enemy shoving his gun-blade into it's body and pulling the trigger as he sliced, decimating it. Two more weaklings that had been just outside the light were quickly felled by several slices. One more charge and he was nearly back to where he'd started, silver blade felling the final monster. At least for the moment. Most had been deterred but who knew what might lay ahead on any sort of escape route he discovered.

With the immediate danger gone, Thancred turned his gaze on whomever had cast the light spell. It had left him completely unharmed so either it only damaged the voidsent or they were more friend than foe. Not a man to just trust a stranger, even if they looked like a young girl, he took a moment to study her. A few things reminded him of home, mainly the similarity between the young girl and the conjurers garb found in Gridania. Then there was the fact she was a touch similar to Ryne or it was more like she brought up memories of traveling with a young Ryne, though he couldn't picture her with a hammer. Actually he wasn't likely to even let her swing such a dangerous and wide sweeping weapon. A rogues arms were better for mobility and self defense as far as he was concerned.

"As pleasant as the welcoming committee has been, I can assure you I'm not out here by choice." Thancred let his arm relax, pointing the tip of the blade toward the ground. It would be unwise to sheath it with danger still afoot. Thancred chuckled at his next words, attempting to somewhat ease the tension of a dangerous situation. "Though I can't say I know quite where here is. You wouldn't happen to be familiar with the area would you?"

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light

to this riddle, all souls are tied

One by one, they fell before him. A quick nip here, a quick bit of magic there, and anything that stood before Alexander Sorel was promptly no longer standing before him. He'd been contemplating seeing what it was that was causing all this. Even he could pick up on the foul magic emanating from within, perhaps a purification was needed? It'd been a while since he'd been able to flex his white magical muscles, but this seemed as good an opportunity as any for him. So when a blast of holy magic--very, very powerful holy magic, Alexander noted--flared up, it acted as a beacon for the Warrior of Light and Darkness, and he made his way over to the source of the blast. When the light cleared, and the two figures were revealed, his heart stopped.

There was no mistaking it. The silver hair, the white coat, the gunblade, it was most definitely Thancred. Alexander's heart soared with relief. Finally, here was someone he knew. Finally, he had some confirmation that at least some of the Scions were safe. While there'd been that bubbling excitement over a new adventure, it paled in comparison to seeing one of his comrades hale and whole and hearty. If Thancred was okay, then the others likely were too. It also brought up the hope of finding them and making sure they were safe. This changed everything. He needed to find the other Scions, get them together, and then look for a way home.

This adventure is for you. Don't fill it with worrying over the others. And yet there was Fray, ever concerned for Alexander's personal health.

Alex ignored Fray. He often did.

So instead, he took another look at the two, noticing the young girl in the obvious garb of a White Mage. Young and... blonde. Really. This was the third young, blonde girl that Thancred was with. Was there just something he wasn't telling the others? He could take care of that later, because for now, the whip appeared in his hand as he fired his Corps-a-corps at Thancred to try and close the distance. "THAAAAAAAN-" It began as he went whirling at the Rogue-turned Gunbreaker, "-CRRRREEEEEEEED!" He aimed to slam into the man and give him the biggest goddamn hug that he could possibly conjure.
