Caius' expression fell when the kid explained that he had indeed died once. And that he knew he was dying, knew he was fading away. Knowing there was nothing he could do about it. And then the kid started trembling. And it was Caius' turn to feel helpless, knowing there was little he could do about it. He didn't know this kid. There wasn't anything he could say, or anything that he could do, to take the pain away. He asked if Caius had died too, and he shook his head. "I... Don't know, honestly."He really didn't. Had he been sent here from that hole? Or was that hole he had seen been an attack and Caius had died in battle and had been sent here? Was this world an afterlife? No, it didn't seem like such. This world had its own problems, and people could still die here. Whatever this was... It wasn't an afterlife at all. Caius was quiet for a short while as Vivi explained that he had been made to fight. Made? He was made? Just to be a weapon? It sounded as though he had been spared the fate of fighting for some kind of monsters, but it seemed that these fates did not spare this child from death. Caius didn't snap out of it until Vivi asked him a question, and it took him a moment to realize he'd been asked as such. "Me? I uh..." He trailed off, trying to regain his bearings. He took another sip from his mug to try and stroke his thoughts. "I haven't thought much of it. But I guess... If I wasn't fighting, I would want to take care of animals. Lots and lots of animals, I'd build a whole sanctuary for them" He would admit. "Seeing as I can't keep myself from being busy though, I'd probably build on my blacksmithing. Learn to build better weapons, even if I didn't use them myself."Finishing his hot chocolate, he placed the mug down, letting out a sigh as he thought something over. "I'd probably pick up that trade in one of the cities. Where it's a little safer. Sure, sometimes I wouldn't have a choice but to fight if something happens... But that wouldn't be often. But the thing is, I'm okay with fighting. It's why I seek it out as a mercenary. I'm okay with it, and... What I can do coupled with that can make a difference for some people."
He leaned over to stroke Vordun's head. "But if you aren't okay with fighting... Maybe hunkering down in a city and learning how to cook, working your way to opening up a restaurant perhaps... Perhaps it would suit you. I just want you to know that you always have a choice. Regardless of what you were made for... It's what you do with it of your own volition that defines how your life is spent. Whether that's taking up a trade and helping people through that... Or doing what I do and taking up a weapon. It will always be up to you. If someone tries to change that... Well, that's one of those "have to" cases I talked about. Not because they told you to, but because you have every right to be free to choose. Even if you gotta fight for it. If you want to cook... Cook. If you want to fight... Fight. But only do it because you choose to."

I ran and I ran. I'm still running away "That sounds really nice. You could have a whole assortment of cute friends if you did that." Vivi's voiced squeaked as he thought of a small sanctuary filled with Chocobos and friendly manners of animals seeing as Caius had found himself a friendly dragon. He was very different than the dragons he had seen in Gaia, and he had an even softer aura to him thanMs. Ava even though she was still a nice enough dragon to him despite Kuja's warnings. "I think my hands are too big to blacksmith. I think I'd hit them all the time." Vivi examined his over sized gloves as though actually giving
Vivi listened as Caius explained he should do what he wanted to whether that be cooking or baking or fighting if he so chose. "We had to fight to make sure the world was saved and not everything died," Vivi mentioned off offhandedly as though it were common knowledge. "I hope we don't have to worry about that here, so maybe, just maybe, I could just do something else instead, but first I still need to try and find my friends." Vivi explained although he wasn't sure if he wanted them to be here or not as Caius' answer still left him uncertain if this was a land of the dead or now.
"Do you think we could go inside the inn? I've been walking a really really long time today." Vivi asked as the flame in his hand wavered with each yawn he tried to suppress, his large glowing eyes drooping and blinking with surprise when he caught himself dozing just a little. "I don't want to keep Mr. Vordrun awake too long talking. It sounds like you've guys had a rough day earlier." Vivi forced himself up off the barrel and wrung his hands not wanting to upset Caius if he wasn't ready to call it a night. "I need to see if they'll let me sleep in a chair near the fire like the last place did since I don't have any money before the innkeeper goes to bed anyway."

Caius smiled softly at that. But it was only a small smile. His mood had still been heavily stagnated by Vivi's story earlier. No kid should go through what he had gone through. Especially not with how young the kid seemed to be. "That sounds nice" He spoke quietly. "Maybe one day, when I'm ready to retire. When I feel like this world's people can get on without me running around keeping an eye out" He added. He didn't know if that day would ever come. But it was a nice pipe dream. "Maybe you could try and find a way to do it with magic?" He suggested when Vivi brought up that his hands wouldn't fit being a blacksmith. "I don't know how much your magic capabilities stretch, but it's always worth looking into if you think it's possible, right?"Of course he wanted to do cooking, so that was just Caius offering potential scenarios. If he enjoyed cooking, he should cook! Vivi brought up that before he came here, he had to fight to keep everyone from dying and Caius nodded his head knowingly. He didn't want to bring up that he'd done so himself, he'd talked enough of himself already. Vivi seemed to hope that he wouldn't have to fight so much here, and he would be able to have this chance, perhaps with his friends. "Well, if anyone says they know a Vivi, I'll tell them you're around" He spoke softly. A small comfort, but it was worth a try. Vivi was right though, it was getting late. And the later it got, the colder it would get. Caius nodded his head as he got up, patting Vordun's head. Vordun seemed ready to sleep, so he supposed it was a good time to head into the inn. When Vivi brought up sleeping on a chair in the inn though, Caius shook his head. He fished out enough gil to afford a room and handed it to Vivi, plus a bit extra for him to eat in the morning. "That's for the inn. And to eat when you wake up" Caius pointed out as he headed for the inn. "Good night, Vivi. I hope you find what you're looking for. Don't hesitate to come find me if you need help. Look for the Dragonblades in Torensten if you need me."
