Welcome one and all to our beautiful new skin! This marks the visual era of Adventu 4.0, our 4th and by far best design we've had. 3.0 suited our needs for a very long time, but as things are evolving around the site (and all for the better thanks to all of you), it was time for a new, sleek change. The Resource Site celebrity Pharaoh Leep was the amazing mastermind behind this with minor collaborations from your resident moogle. It's one-of-a-kind and suited specifically for Adventu. Final Fantasy Adventu is a roleplaying forum inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Images on the site are edited by KUPO of FF:A with all source material belonging to their respective artists (i.e. Square Enix, Pixiv Fantasia, etc). The board lyrics are from the Final Fantasy song "Otherworld" composed by Nobuo Uematsu and arranged by The Black Mages II.
The current skin was made by Pharaoh Leap of Pixel Perfect. Outside of that, individual posts and characters belong to their creators, and we claim no ownership to what which is not ours. Thank you for stopping by.
Wrapping them up because really, a party of bandits are doomed here
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
Thunder cracked in the space between them. It flashed in the mage’s hand and then above Caius who could only stare at it, eyes wide in horror. In an instant, Celes hand was on her sword as she dashed forward -- knowing somewhere that she didn’t have time to block it, but charging forward all the same. Stupid! She should have kept a closer eye on the rest of them. She should have recognized magic when she’d seen it. She should have-!
The magic fizzled and died.
Celes stopped, blinking at the space it had left behind. For a moment, she couldn’t guess as to why, but then she heard a familiar voice behind her. ”Got your backs!” Relm. Celes could have laughed in relief, but instead she merely cast a smile the girl’s way and nodded. Relm hadn’t disappointed. Of course she hadn’t.
A blade whistled behind her, and Celes gasped, stumbling out of its way as she raised her sword to block it. She heard the clink of metal on metal and a sharp pressure on her pauldron that sent her even harder off balance. She twisted around on her heel and raised her sword to block again. A grizzled face rose to meet her. They’d lost the element of surprise.
Which really only made things messier.
All in all, they made short work of the crew. Despite the damages done, they were really nothing more than common thugs, and between the three of them they didn’t stand a chance. In fact, Celes felt her stomach drop as the looked into the wrinkled eyes of her assailant. There was no satisfaction in them -- only determination and a hint of fear. Celes chose to disarm him instead, kicking him to the ground with the tip of her boot. Celes had shed enough blood for five lifetimes.
Caius and Relm took care of the others, and within minutes Celes was left scowling with a hand on her shoulder. Her pauldron had caught the blow well enough, but the force of it had gone straight through. She could already feel a bruise forming beneath her armor. It could have been worse.
”Well does that prove it then?” Celes started towards the carriage and peered over the edge. The driver was curled at the bottom, hands over his head. He peeked through the gaps as Celes approached him, eyes wild. ”We’ve done our job though I don’t think it would be a terrible idea to escort him the rest of the way.” Celes turned from the carriage and shifted her focus to the other two. ”Then there’s cleanup here. Someone will need to take the rest of them to town.” She gestured towards the remaining bandits. Her own was still wincing on the ground, touching at a leg that she might have fractured. His eyes panned the forest. Looking for his sword no doubt.
”Or is there some other part of the job left to finish?”
It felt good. It felt good to help. It felt good to be useful to her friends. But more than that it felt great that her friends recognised that help. It made her grin wide as she giggled in response. She hoped Caius could see that she was useful now. Despite his agreement earlier she wanted to show him, prove it to him. She was a strong girl, and Celes belived in her! She supposed in a way she wanted the same from the other person she was going to be working with. She was no dumby. Their was a lot she didn't understand about suddenly being plopped into a new world. She didn't know how it happened, or why. But she did understand the chances of going back were probaly low. The chances of seeing Gramps and everyone else again was low.
She understood that their was the very real chance Celes was the only person she would ever see again from home. She didn't want it to be true, far from it. But it seemed far fetched a bunch more little holes would pop up and drop the others here. It was a sad thought.
Why had her last words to Gramps been so mean?
The sound of battle shook her back to attentipn. The flash of magic and the rythem of blades clashing. They were relying on her. She coudn't accord to sulk now. The point was that she did hsve Celes. She sorta had Caius.
And to quote Setzer, the bandits had a bad hand.
Magic danced from her hands as she retook her position. Her size gave her an edge, she was harder to hit than her grown up allies. When they came for her she rolled, when they tried to hit her rolling she took the momentum into their face and lit them uo with magic. It wasn't long before theg had cleaned uo and everyone was down and out except them. The surprise was lost but.. They had still won-that was something to be proud of right? Yes for sure! She called out her boast in a sing song, cheery little decleration of victory.
"Dragonblades one, Bandits zero!"
Her ears though, caught a grunt from Celes. At first she thought it was in reaction to the way she was acting-they wearn't done after all. But that cheeky grin turned to a frown when she saw Celes rubbing her shoulder. Someone had struck her. It looked lile the armor caught it, and chances are she wasn't about to complain but.... That could effect them later right? Even one bad wound...
But more than that she didn't want her friend to be in pain.
"Stay put Celes!"
The commanding tone might seem odd to some comong from her chdish voice, but Relm didn't much care. Within moments she had sketched a stool in front Celes and hopped onto it. Not once did it occur to her that Celes could probaly use her own magic to heal that wound. Why would she? The only thought that mattered was 'Celes had been hurt' and she needed to be helped, it was as simple as that. And so her hadns went to work over her shoulder. It probaly wasn't serious. It woudn't requote Curaga or even Cura. But she coudn't just leave it. Maybe she was a silly little kid for that, she didn't care. She let Cure do its work, guiding the spell over the small wound until it was done.
"Annnnd there! All better?"
She offered a smile to Celes, then looked back to Caius. He didn't seem to have been harmed but... She'd be ready if he had. Serisoly what was with soldiers and just bearing their wounds? It wasn't even effective! Sheesh.
With the bandits gone Celes' plan to guide the carriage the rest of the way made sense. After all what if there were more? Or monsters? If they just guarded the carriage they woudn't have to worry about that! But they also needed someone to... Take the bandits into down...? Relm seemed to have a moment as she tapped her chin. Before a childish put came from her lips and she slumped her arms.
Believe it or not, aside from the surprise of one of their quarry knowing magic (That was something Caius was going to have to look into. Since when did common bandits know sizeable magic?), everything had gone according to plan. While Celes might not have seen it that way, everything had gone the way that Caius had envisioned. While it had been a risk as to whether the bandits would actually be there or not, they had been able to ambush the bandits right when they were occupied with their attack on the caravan. Caius had purposely waited until the last moment, right when they charged at the caravan, to make their move. This had given them as much of an element of surprise as they were going to get without seriously risking the safety of the merchant.
Caius stopped to speak to the merchant and ensure he understood the situation and that he was alright. From the corner of his eye, he watched as Relm fussed over a minor wound of Celes', and he couldn't help but smile faintly. It seemed that in some respect, she had gained a measure of approval from Caius. And in the way that really did matter when it came to what he looked for in the Dragonblades.
But something hit him like a kick in the chest deep down, and instinct wheeled him back toward the merchant, who had a second later let out a cry due to one of the bandits having a firearm pressed to his head. Before the bandit could get a word out to proclaim demands though, Caius had already aimed his gunblade upwards and fired, knocking the firearm out of his hands.
"Son of a-" Caius growled as he warped forward, roughly kicking the bandit off the merchant's cart before checking on the merchant's welfare. Once he was sure they were well, he turned to Celes and Relm when the question of what to do next came up.
“I agree. It would be best if you two escorted him back to town” Caius concurred. “When you get back to town, inform law enforcement of what happened and send them my way, to handle cleanup. I’ll remain here and keep them from fleeing. I have a few questions for them anyway.”
When Celes asked if this was all that was left to do, Caius turned to her.
“That depends on what I find out. I’ll let you know when I return. I'll meet the two of you back at the inn when I have finished here.”
