Though annoyed that s/he didn't get a response to their inquiry about these so-called "cup noodles", Quina took it in stride. It wasn't like s/he wasn't about to find out soon anyway. What caught his/her attention, however, was the pieces of behemoth meat that Caius was preparing to add to the soup. "Ooh...that Behemoth meat right? No other type of meat have that color or marbling. So...that mean there are monsters hear after all? I not run into any since waking up; beginning to wonder if there were any here." Regardless of Caius' response, that was one curiosity about this strange place sated. All s/he would have to do now is find a location that did have some monsters.
Either way, Quina listened quietly as Caius went on to confirm his/her suspicions. They were indeed in an entirely different world from the one they originated from. Different worlds weren't exactly a new concept for Quina; after all, his/her journey led to one. But the fact that there were even more outside of the two s/he'd been to was a bit of an eye-opener. Just how many different worlds were there? Either way, Quina was unusually quick to pick up on Caius' attempts to fish for a name, and immediately took it upon him/herself to start the rounds of introductions. "Oh yes! I called Quina Quen; I member of Qu Tribe...though...I going to assume that not something that exists in this world."
If it was, Quina would be very pleasantly surprised, to say the least. From what s/he could tell, this world was fairly similar to their own, but s/he was already noticing many subtle differences. Having a strong nose helped in that regard; heck, with his/her tongue perpetually hanging out, s/he could even taste differences in the air around them and compare it to how the air "tasted" back in their home world. That's just how the Qu were. To them, taste was quite literally everything. Either way, Quina continued to listen as Caius went into further detail about his time here, and how he even met the person he'd served in his homeworld.
"In that case, maybe my friends here too. Though...if they here, then how come they not end up in same place I did?..." Quina, not being one to dwell on things, was astonishingly quick to get over this. "Oh well. If they here, I find them eventually. Not first time we separated."
Caius gave them a bit of time while he tended to their dinner. He knew that this news would be difficult to swallow, but he knew they’d be okay with time. This was a very jarring thing to deal with, and he was content to let them accept this fact at their own individual pace. He’d needed months to settle down, so the least he could do was give them the patience to at least start on the right path. By the time they were back to asking questions and the like, Caius stepped away from the food. He noticed Vordun had remained curled up, but had been staring at the cup noodles the entire time. He could almost swear he could see a bit of drool trailing from the lizard’s jaws.
The strange creature asked about there being monsters in Zephon, to which Caius nodded his head. "I fight monsters for a living, as well as bandits and the like. I've been a monster hunter since I was thirteen, back in my own world. If there is anything that there is an abundance of in this world, Zephon... It's monsters. I assume you haven't been in this world very long if you haven't found any."
Seeing as they'd asked to eat Vordun and the dog, he had to assume that the creature, Quina as they then introduced themselves as, was carnivorous and ate creatures -- monsters especially. Quina then asked why, if their friends were possibly here, why they hadn't arrived in the same place as them.
"The people I've met have all popped up here in different locations" Caius answered as he moved to check on the noodles. A move that caused Vordun to pick up his head. "A woman I met recently hadn't ever been anywhere far from Sonora since coming to this world, and that's quite a ways from where I popped up - near the City of Torensten. You meanwhile, are closest to the City of Provo. Though I'd steer clear of it right now, and head to Torensten if I were you while you get your bearings. Provo is dealing with a plague at the moment."
It seemed they were ready, and Caius let out a sigh of relief as he handed a cup to both the woman and to Quina. "Just open the seal on the top, and slurp the noodles. Feel free to eat the meat and drink the boiled water if you want" He instructed as he handed each one to them. "The noodles are given their texture and flavour using the juices of the meat, which are soaked in with the water and heat."
With that, Caius unsealed Vordun's cup before placing it down in front of the dragon, before sitting down himself with his back leaned against the dragon's side. Restraining the urge to start drooling himself, he opened the seal on his own cup as the overwhelming aroma of cup noodles filled his senses. Caius didn't wait, as he immediately began digging in. After a few bites, he did stop to say one thing though.
"If you can name any of your friends, I'm fairly well traveled here" He explained. "If I see them, I can shoot them your way. Its possible they're either somewhere else, or just weren't sent here yet" He offered to them both.
Rinoa was quiet for the monster talk. The last thing she wanted to think about right now was monsters. More horrors, more fighting. Rinoa had been fighting for most of her life. But they had won. The biggest threat in the world, across all of time, had fallen and they'd had a chance to live in peace for once. Finally. And now she was pulled into this world with monsters, and plagues, and whatever other problem and she was here with little more than the clothes on her back. She had finally been happy and content, and now that was gone and she had to start from scratch. No friends with her and no idea of what any of the people were like. Where could she go? What was she going to do now?
With the food served, Rinoa opened Angelo's for her and then started on her own. She had never had Behemoth meat before and was trusting it was fine to eat based off the other two talking. It was different but good. Angelo gulped up all the noodles and meat easily, not bothering with the broth so much as it ended up spilled on the ground as the dog tore into the cup to get at the real food. Rinoa slurped at her own noodles as the man gave instructions to Quina on how to eat them. Rinoa knew, having had something similar before. She didn't know it as 'Cup Noodles', more just called instant ramen, but she knew what he had meant by the name.
"I'm Rinoa Heartilly, and this is Angelo." Rinoa introduced herself again following the member of the Qu Tribe so the man would know her name too, "I've never met a Qu tribe in my world either, though I did meet the Shumi Tribe." The Shumi Tribe were odd creatures too. Rinoa wondered if they were connected in some way with the Qu, like counterparts or something between worlds. She didn't know anywhere near enough about Qu's to make a theory though. After that the conversation turned to the possibility that the man had met some of their friends if they had been pulled here before.
"Squall!?" Rinoa suddenly shouted in response. Then she cleared her throat and started again more calmly, "H-have you met someone named Squall? He's a broody, cute guy with great hair. Or anyone named Selphie, Zell, Irvine, or Quistis?" she asked.
Quina eyed the cup of noodles warily. It went without saying that s/he'd never seen anything like this before. They were all for trying new and unusual foods, but there was just something about this one; it was almost a little too new and unusual. Nevertheless, s/he was still hungry enough to eat this new and strange food, and thus followed Caius' instructions closely. The strange creature's long and perpetually-hanging tongue retracted back into his/her mouth, just long enough to slurp up the noodles and drink the broth. After a moment, there was a flash in Quina's eyes as they suddenly went wide. Quite the reaction to some instant ramen, to say the least.
"Delicious! Broth very salty. Would normally ruin a soup like this! But unexpectedly flavorful, and the saltiness actually help it! And the noodles. Thin and slightly chewy. Normally, would not be very good, but work well with strange broth! And behemoth meat makes good addition. Perfectly cooked!" Pausing the impromptu appraisal long enough to finish the food, Quina had one last thing to say "Surprisingly filling, too...I expecting to be hungrier after eating." Needless to say, this weird entity known as "cup noodle" has turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the eyes of the Qu. Already, s/he was thinking of possible ways to recreate it if/when they ever returned to Gaia.
Afterward, s/he listened as Rinoa introduced herself and her pet, giving a small nod of acknowledgement. His/her interest was mildly piqued when she mentioned a "Shumi Tribe", though s/he didn't think much on the matter since Rinoa didn't elaborate. Maybe s/he'd ask about them later. Either way, listening to Caius talk, Quina made mental notes. That plague sounded like nasty business. There was a chance that his/her biology might make them immune (or at least resistant), but regardless, s/he wasn't taking any chances. Then came the offer from Caius to see if he'd met any of their friends. It felt like a long shot, but at this point, Quina had nothing to lose.
S/he listened to Rinoa talk, making a point of mentally writing down each name on the off chance that s/he might run into them at some point, then took their turn. "Let see...there Zidane, Princess Garnet, Steiner, Freya, Eiko...and Amarant, I guess. Then there Vivi...he technically my husband...it long story. Still make me happy though, even though we not especially close."
The lot seemed to like the Cup Noodles, which was good. Vordun was occupied gobbling up everything he could. Even as a bigger dragon, his appetite for Cup Noodles hadn't changed, and Caius was quite happy about that as that meant they would still be able to share these meals together for years to come. Though he hadn't expected Quina to suddenly become a cutlery critic. At least they liked it, he supposed? He wasn't sure what he would have done if they put a negative spin on this critique. It wasn't like he did much to prepare the food, aside from set it up and pick the right complimentary ingredient. So he supposed he wouldn't have been offended or even effected either way. Would have been weird though.
The woman, Rinoa, would introduce herself before starting to name people off, though Caius didn't recognize any of them. "Caius" He introduced, realizing he hadn't done so before. "The dragon is Vordun. We're part of a group of mercenaries called the Dragonblades. As for the names you gave... Sorry, I haven't met any of them. But if I do, I'll point them in your direction" He promised. Quina went next, and his head snapped to attention when they named Zidane.
"I know Zidane" He responded. "Monkey tail kid? Can turn pink? He was near Torensten last I saw him, but that was some time ago. Was looking for a girl named Garnet."
He looked to Vordun. "You weren't around" He told the dragon, who was too busy eating to care. He tapped his foot a bit in thought. "Amarant as well. I believe I met a man of that name in the desert, on an expedition. No clue where else he might have gone though, he wasn't a very sociable man."
He shrugged his shoulders. "I wouldn't worry though. I found the people I was looking for, I'm sure you'll find yours as well."
Quina was quite the foodie. Zone used to ramble on about food like this too, but Quina actually sounded like she knew what she was talking about. (Quina had a husband so she was a she, right? Maybe?) Zone just liked to complain and if you called him out on it he suddenly got a stomach ache and had to excuse himself. Quina was definitely an interesting and unique character. As for dragon tamer Caius, Rinoa still wasn't completely sure about him. He was very friendly to offer two perfect strangers food and information, so far asking for nothing in return. Did he have repayment in mind? It was difficult to believe there was nothing, but maybe his world and hers were very different.
The flicker of excitement Rinoa had felt at the possibility that Caius had met one of her friends was quickly snuffed by his answer. It was always entirely possible he just hadn't met them yet, but it was also possible she was completely alone here. Maybe the people pulled here all had something in common. Something she had, but the others of her world didn't. Apparently Caius had found people of Quina's world too, not to mention his own, which only made Rinoa feel more hopeless. Were any of them here? Or would they wake up in their own beds and find her missing? She might never see any of them ever again. Squall... The thought of not seeing him again made her heart ache. Her eyes turned from the others back out toward the field of flowers.
"I'll be here... I'll be waiting for you... If you come here, you'll find me. I promise."
"But what if I can't get there?" she thought, "Can you find me?" Rinoa's hand went back to the ring that hung at her chest and her eyes moved to look to the sky.
It went without saying that Quina was pleased when Caius informed him that he had not only met Zidane, but also Amarant as well. Doubly so when he went on to perfectly describe him, relieved that it wasn't just an unlikely case of two people with the same name. Can never be too careful with that sort of thing. Amarant was a bit of a surprise, though, ultimately, Quina wasn't going to be picky when it came to his/her allies. Amarant had always been a rather cold and aloof ally, often to the point that Quina legitimately couldn't help but wonder why he even stuck with Zidane and the rest of their group for as long as he did.
"Well, that good, at least. If Zidane here, no surprise if the others are as well. Just hope they okay..." Quina then looked to Rinoa. S/he wasn't exactly a paragon of subtlety or reading the mood, but even they could tell what had to have been going through her mind based on the look on her face. She was scared and worried about seeing her friends again. It was something Quina could relate to, even if only slightly. S/he often ended up getting separated from the rest of his/her party during their journey. More often than not, all Quina had to do was wander aimlessly for a bit and s/he'd catch up with them in no time at all, regardless of how implausible it seemed.
But here, it was different. It was a whole new world, and she had no idea who all was even here, let alone where they were. No doubt, those who were here likely didn't even realize Quina was here yet. As such, it was hard to feel as casual about it as s/he normally did. For once, s/he was actually a little worried about whether or not s/he'd run into them again. Though, still not worried enough that s/he could still more or less be their usual carefree self. Either way, Quina took pity on the girl and decided to try cheering her up "No worry! If your friends here, I sure you find them! Until then, no give up!"
S/he may be extremely self-centered, but Quina was still very empathetic toward others, even those s/he barely knew.
Caius felt bad that there was nothing that he could do for Rinoa, and he frowned a bit. He was happy that he was able to identify two of Quina's friends at least, but it somehow made it even worse that someone was left out in all of this. "Sorry" He repeated softly toward Rinoa. "If I see or hear of a Squall or the others, I'll let you know if I can find you again."
Squall, Squall... He could almost swear he had heard that name once. But it was such a faint memory, such an obstructed memory that he wasn't sure if he was just imagining it or not. He recalled vague memories of a gunblade and a Malboro, but that might have just been from one of the Malboro he killed by himself, and the gunblade might have just been his. But why had that memory been associated with the name? He wasn't sure. All he knew was that he didn't remember. Thinking back to what he had said earlier... Was it possible that this Squall was someone that Caius had once met on a job once, and this Squall had then been sent home? If so... Then Rinoa would probably never find him, unless he was sent home herself.
It was clear by how much she prioritized him that he was special to her. He hoped they would be reunited one day. Either in this world, or another.
He let out a sigh, trying to push it from his mind. There was no use in dwelling on it. There was nothin that Caius could do right now. "Anyway, if you guys look out to the horizon out there..." He spoke up, pointing behind them and toward the distance. "You'll find the industrial city of Provo. It's very possible that if anyone you know is here... They might be there."
He shrugged slightly. "Or not. Provo has recently become a plague town. Something has cropped up there and has been infecting people left and right. You might have better luck in Torensten."
Or not, considering everyone under the sun seemed invested in blowing up Torensten.
"If you keep following the road that way" He remarked as he pointed out another way. "You'll find yourself in Torensten. It's a little father, but... If plague isn't your thing, Torensten is probably where you want to go. If you need help should you go there, ask around for a representative of the Dragonblades. If I'm not there, then my partner will probably be. She has long blonde hair, kind of like mine. Looks and acts like the feistiest woman in the world... Hard to miss. Goes by Celes."
With that, Caius went back to casually eating, not wanting to let good Cup Noodles go to waste.
ight." Rinoa said with a nod to Quina's encouragement. She was right, Rinoa couldn't give up so easily. If she was brought to this world then it stood to reason there was a way back too. She just had to find it. There had to be something out there that could do what happened to her in reverse. She just needed to find whatever that was. Or who. And if that was the case, then a 'why' would be nice too. She didn't really see the point of pulling her from her world to drop her into this one with zero purpose being presented. And these two she was with at the moment didn't seem to have been given any reason behind it either. And Caius had clearly been here awhile.
"Thanks." she replied to Caius' offer, "Not sure how you'll find me, but it would be good if you could let them know I'm here too at least." she said. He continued by giving some directions. He brought up the plague of Provo again. It was sad to hear, but Rinoa didn't think she could do anything to help those people as it was. She didn't want to be a burden on anyone trying to help and she could just end up getting sick herself, which helped nothing.
"I guess I'll be heading south then." she said, "That works well enough, especially if your based there. At least I know I'll have somewhere to turn to there if I need help." she added. And this Celes person seemed cool. Rinoa was definitely on board with a feisty woman. She fancied herself a bit feisty as well. They might get along pretty good! And if she was as nice and helpful to a stranger as Caius was, that'd be super helpful.
"So when you say partner, is she like your girlfriend or something?" Rinoa asked innocently.
