Welcome one and all to our beautiful new skin! This marks the visual era of Adventu 4.0, our 4th and by far best design we've had. 3.0 suited our needs for a very long time, but as things are evolving around the site (and all for the better thanks to all of you), it was time for a new, sleek change. The Resource Site celebrity Pharaoh Leep was the amazing mastermind behind this with minor collaborations from your resident moogle. It's one-of-a-kind and suited specifically for Adventu. Final Fantasy Adventu is a roleplaying forum inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Images on the site are edited by KUPO of FF:A with all source material belonging to their respective artists (i.e. Square Enix, Pixiv Fantasia, etc). The board lyrics are from the Final Fantasy song "Otherworld" composed by Nobuo Uematsu and arranged by The Black Mages II.
The current skin was made by Pharaoh Leap of Pixel Perfect. Outside of that, individual posts and characters belong to their creators, and we claim no ownership to what which is not ours. Thank you for stopping by.
Alex waited, well at least Caius was being a good sport about all this. Probably not the crawl he wanted, but it was the crawl he got. Either that, or it was just satisfying for the near instant karma. Still, that left the matter of the golems, which while slowed, were still shambling towards them. Well, that confirmed some things. One, the guy didn't take much to go down. Two, the golems could still act independently even without the wielder. Which meant that they either needed to be destroyed or reconfigured. Personally, he disagreed with the assumption that their traitorous little merchant friend would be up quickly, considering what had happened, but still, best to assume so and work with that. "I got it, I got it." Good grief.
Once again he channeled his aether beneath him, and this time the stone erupted from underneath Alex himself as it pushed him up higher into the room. At its zenith, he made good use of his Displacement, always handy to have to create some distance. As the backflip commenced, pushed by the momentum generated by the stone pillar, he used his new vantage point to conjure an orange tether while creating some distance from the golems at the same time. Rescue, another handy ability from his Healer repertoire. Usually it had more... benign uses. Namely its most common being to yank an ally out of the path of an oncoming attack that he knew would hurt really badly, but as Urianger had demonstrated once, it had... other applications.
Namely because he was aiming it at the rod itself.
He wasn't sure how nimble Kahlil would be, or even was to begin with, but he wasn't willing to bet on the little guy. He figured getting the rod would be the easy part, hard part... well, not really. He was pretty sure he could make Kahlil let go if he really insisted on holding on to the damn thing. But just in case, he twisted his arm as he pulled on the tether, leaving his elbow jutting out to meet any wayward merchant's face. Who knows? Maybe they could wrap this up in a few more seconds!

The golems lurched onward towards them, despite the fall of their handler. They had incredibly hard and rough surfaces, so their blades were going to need to be thrown fast as much as hard if they wanted to fell them, Caius noted. This was going to be far from easy. Not only were these things incredibly sturdy and had increased power and speed when their handler was up -- and they wouldn't be able to keep them down forever -- they had the numbers advantage. By a lot. This was a serious problem, but Caius did his best not to panic despite the circumstances.
Kahlil remained prone as Alexander acted, trying to lasso the rod away from him. But as if by magic, the traitorous explorer suddenly perked right up the minute it came for the rod, curling into a ball to prevent the rod from being touched. As he moved the tethed, Kahlil suddenly kicked it aside and rolled forward, taking off at a run as far past the golems as possible, as the golems continued to close in on them.
"He doesn't take much to take down, but he certainly has quite the instincts" Caius commented, as a grappling hook materialized in his free hand. Kahlil's temporary incapacitation had given him some time to plan, and not a moment sooner as the golems began to glow again and their speed increased. It seemed that the attempt to rob him had given the explorer a second wind. Figures.
Caius launched the hook towards the wall, and let out a breath in relief as it hooked to the holes in between the surfaces holding the wall together. This was risky, but... Caius pulled back, sliding past a golem stomp that nearly turned him into a Flatglaive instead of a Kingsglaive, and managed his way behind them. He couldn't get Kahlil from here, as other golems blocked his way, and he was still out of range, but...
He let out a pained cry as he yanked when one of the golems heading for Alexander's position made contact with the hook's rope. Hoping it would hold, Caius pulled with all his might...
And then it went down.
The golem tumbled, and the chaos caused two more to tumble as well. The others turned and headed straight for Caius, but Alexander had an opportunity...
"Now! Before they can get back up!"

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Alex groaned and let out a beleagured sigh. Time was not on their side. He looked at the approaching golems. Right, if they were going to have to take them out, best to just go ahead and get that done. Raising his Star Globe, he pointed to Caius, filling him with an immediate boost of energy as he fired off his Tetragrammaton. The time of the wound began to rewind. Healing from an Astrologian was always a bit different. Rather than simply mending the wound shut, it rewound its time, as if the wound had never taken place to begin with. Still, hopefully that'd repair the damage right quick. "Go ahead and go get that guy. He can't possibly move that fast right now." But these golems were beginning to be a pain in the ass and it was becoming clear that the Merchant guy was just going to cause problems.
Still, the golems had to be dealt with, and once again he drew on the stars as he activated Lightspeed. It'd let him fire off some potent spells without having to really take breaks between them, as long as he knew to recover his mana afterwards. Taking a sharp inhale, he pointed at the downed golems, with them all being scrunched together, it'd make this easier, firing off a Verflare, followed by a Scorch at one of the active ones, taking a moment to recover some of his aether. But ideally, if the spells went off without a hitch, four of the six should be blown away at that point. The other two, well he could handle those. "Believe me, I've faced a lot worse than golems, you can leave this to me." The sooner they got that guy under control, the better.

If he was so sure, Caius didn't hesitate.
The moment that Alexander had given him the go-ahead, Caius would Warp forwards, again and again as he darted past the Golems until...
He came to Kahlil. The explorer ducked, but Caius wasn't aiming for him. The slash forward sliced the rod in half, causing the golems to lose their glow. Kahlil screamed.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?"
The golems suddenly began to glow again, but this time they attacked wildly, and far more aggressively. It appeared that without the control rod, they were blind, mindless monsters that would crush anything in their way. But while Kahlil seemed to find this a bad thing, Caius saw it as his advantage. Alexander had been able to handle himself at least, and most of the golems had been taken down regardless. But now it came time to finish the job. So long as he could recover the mana before any fighting started again, he'd be okay...
Caius took a deep breath before warping forwards, again and again in succession, leading the last two golems into each other. With their trading blows, Caius slashed at the eyes of one, though still very much in danger from being in the middle of their brawl. The other finished it off quickly, and Caius leaped off the head of the first to gain some air as it fell.
"FIRAGA!"
The spell was launched downwards. As powerful as it was, it took its toll and Caius could only hope that it would do the trick. It hit its mark, the fireball exploding into a massive pillar of flames on contact. It seemed to do the job, as the last golem went down...
Caius looked to the cowering Kahlil a moment, before rolling his eyes and looking to Alexander.
"Thanks" he spoke as he looked to the end of the room. There it was. The very treasure that Kahlil had sought. It was a massive hoard of gold and artifacts that could make a man rich. "Why don't you take as much as you can carry? Least I can do for the help" he offered. He'd been offered a share, so he would take his as agreed upon. As he walked to the pile, though, Kahlil would suddenly call out. "Hey! We had a deal! And he's not part of it!" the man growled, but Caius dismissed him with a hand. "You said yourself. The deal is off."
With that, he paid him no further attention as he worked to take as much as he could. It would seriously help the guild's coffers. If they saved this, perhaps they'd one day be able to furnish a better base of operations. While neither Caius or Alexander would be able to take anywhere near all of this treasure, the amount he'd been able to store in his pockets and in hammerspace was still a great deal. Not that he wanted all of the treasure anyway. Why rob someone else of the exploration and discovering something like this for their troubles?
While Caius was doing so though, Kahlil had made a decision. He let out a cry as he was suddenly behind the mercenary, a knife in hand as he tried to plunge it into his back.
It never connected.
Instead, the sound of a gunshot rang through the air.
Caius had tried to spare Kahlil's life, but he had left him with no choice. Caius' gunblade had re-appeared in his hand and he'd shot Kahlil from close range with the knife mere inches from his body. If he'd acted even a bit later, it might have been the end for him.
There was no need for a second shot. Kahlil crumpled, and Caius shook his head. Well, there went his good mood.
"You greedy fool."
Was wanting almost the entire hoard really worth dying for? Caius knew that greed could consume a man, he'd seen it many times before, but...
To experience it firsthand like this, to see it come to this? It was still a horrifying sight.
He had killed another human being once more. It made him sick, even if he knew it was self defense.
