Seconds felt like minutes and minutes felt like hours. Yet, Zell did all he could to contain his excitement. Waiting this long in line was difficult for the hungry SeeD, but he was almost to the front now. Uncertainty had long passed as the blonde man discovered not too long ago that this whole new world had his favorite dish available; hot dogs.
The entire time that he had been in line in front of this food kiosk, Zell’s eyes were glued to the large picture of a hot dog on the side. It had been too long since he enjoyed the delicious item. He could only imagine savoring the meaty flavor of the hot dog, accompanied with the combination of various toppings. And now, it was his turn to order.
“What’ll it be, son?” the owner asked as Zell became the next in line to order.
“I’ll have two hot dogs!” His hand quickly darted up to point at his beloved food.
“Alright. And what toppings would you like on them?”
The blonde male paused for a moment to think about the various toppings and their flavors. There were so many options that he knew of, and so many more that he didn’t. For now, he needed to what this place was willing to put on the hot dogs. His decision will come after. “What kinds of toppings do you have?”
The kiosk owner took a deep breath before starting down the list. “We’ve got ketchup, mustard, relish, chili, cheese, bacon, onions, lettuce, salsa, hot sauce, and shredded gyshal.”
It was so much to take in because everything sounded great. Starvation made him more irrational, and his rumbling belly didn’t help. Everything sounded so good, and even though Zell had many of those toppings before on hot dogs, he could not make up his mind on which combination to take. After some thought, there was only one logical conclusion left.
“Would I be able to have all of them?”
A nod and a smile followed. “The Works? Sure thing.”
Zell’s excitement grew even more with every passing moment until the shopkeeper presented him with the finished product. The scent of the various toppings was heavenly and he felt he could happily die with these magnificent hot dogs in his hand. After paying the appropriate amount of Gil for his food, the lost SeeD departed from the spot, happily walking down the street and carelessly ignoring his surroundings. Blue hues examined the meal, and hands caressed it in an almost creepy manner. Nothing could ruin this moment, or so he thought.

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."

One could hardly fault Zell for ignoring his surroundings. Two hot dogs in hand, each done up with the works; their pleasing scents wafted in his wake. Though perhaps ignoring his surroundings would lead to bittersweet partings with his precious items? To start, whilst he was in line initially, there was a situation developing not far from the vendor's stall. The guards were growing increasingly agitated, despite trying to keep their voices to considerate levels.
The source for the guards frustration was none other than Lumina. Initially, they held her up under suspicion she was trying to smuggle their precious metal ore. "No,no,no. Where would I put such a thing on my person? No pockets here...or here, see~?" innocent though her response may sound, did she have to demonstrate the lack of pockets with touch? Now they were flustered ontop of frustrated, for Lumina's point was compelling but looks were deceiving. Yet none felt up to the task of a body search. What would citizens of Sonora think if they saw them thoroughly patting down a young girl?
"You wouldn't lie to us, would you missy? You're sure that you don't have any of that precious metal on you, yes?" naturally Lumina shook her head before smiling. "I'm very sure I don't have it on me." Lumina reiterated before turning and pointing in the direction that Zell was coming from. "I think he might have what you're looking for, look closely at the edge of his pockets."
Naturally the guards needed to squint, waiting for the young man to come into better visibility. That was when Lumina worked her magic, a simple illusion and the guards would see what she wanted them to. A bit of ore, in a thin prism shape, poking out from one of his pockets. That was all it took for them to stop hassling her and immediately make a charge for Zell, crying out "HALT!" as they did.
"Boy, these guards sure get bent out of shape about that metal ore. Someone should teach them that it's wrong to monopolize resources found in nature." there was a twinkle within her blue irises, for who better to teach the guards and by extension, Sonara; the error of their ways? Her parents taught her better than that, sharing was caring, as was giving back. She imagined what another city in Zephon could do with this technology? "I wonder what those Monks would think if they saw it. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces!"
Not that she was entirely in the clear yet. The guards needed to have not a single doubt within their minds about her innocence. That meant she couldn't just run off and let a stranger deal with the consequences. Though it would be fun to see how far they'd take their presumptions. Shame Zell might lose his hot dogs due to the guards attempting to tackle him as part of detaining a potential smuggler!
So close, he was so close to heaven. The unfortunate SeeD wouldn't get more than twenty feet from the food cart before his hand rose up to begin eating his meal. But he would be interrupted by the sounds of approaching footsteps and shouts.
"Halt!"
"Huh?" Zell stopped to turn, only to see three large men in armor rush towards him. Like a deer in the headlights, he didn't know how to respond. In his mind, Zell didn't think that these guards were shouting at him. They couldn't be, could they? No, all he was doing was getting some food and---
The young man's thoughts were interrupted when the guards grabbed him and dragged him down to the ground. His moment of bliss was ruined, and now his food was gone. Still, the guards made attempts to restrain the man, though he endured the attack and flailed about on the ground to resist arrest.
"Get off!" he shouted, trying to wiggle out of their grasp. "I didn't do nothin'! Help! HELP!!!" His cries did him no good. Some of the citizens watched the scene unravel while others turned and quickly left. Even the guy who was selling food took his large cart and left the area, wanting nothing to do with this situation. And still, Zell continued to fight.
During the commotion, a guard accidentally stomped on one of the hot dogs. Zell's eyes widened in horror, almost as if seeing someone he loved being murdered. "No!" he cried out dramatically and reached out for it with a hand. "Noooo!"
The guards continued to struggle with the man, even going as far as leaping on top of him and making a pile of bodies just to restrain him. But enough was enough, and his burning passion for hot dogs put him into a rage. The bodies under him shook just moments before Zell used all his might to break free.
All three guards went flying in various directions at once. At the center of the commotion stood the SeeD, heavily breathing in a fighting stance and with an aura slowly forming around his body as he was entering combat mode. There were two things that Zell was great at; kicking ass and eating hot dogs. And he's all out of hot dogs...

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."
Post by Claire Farron on Feb 2, 2019 16:59:10 GMT -6
With the guards sent flying, Lumina giggled in delight. This was way too much, she hadn't expected him to fight back, which meant he was definitely on the radar! Lumina began to clap enthusiastically, "Bravo, bravo. That was an excellent display of physical prowess; I'm impressed." Lumina proceeded to walk over to Zell as the guards landed and were promptly winded. They'd need a moment or two to get up. Good thing Lumina only needed a moment to work her magic. Ah, not actual magic in this case, just her way with words.
"Of course, now you're going to be in big trouble." Lumina continued, her hands moving to cover her mouth to express shock and awe. For a moment her eyes widened, then they downcast to look to his pockets. Now the real magic came, as Zell would see the source of what the commotion was all about. A little prism of special metallic ore, the city's life blood. They'd never trade it to anyone else and it was used to make all their grand inventions! "Having that in your pocket marks you as a potential smuggler. Don't worry though, I'm here to help. You'll have to run though, ready?" she moved her hands from her lips, then signaled with her left hand three fingers. Then two fingers, then one finger, which was her index finger.
"Let's go!" her hand balled up into into a fist as she pumped it in the air before promptly running further ahead. She'd look back over her right shoulder, just to be sure Zell was following her. Those guards weren't going to get up for a while longer but once they did, they'd probably radio for backup. Code red, code amber, code something, either way, smugglers didn't leave those walls. So how did the little trickster decide get into this smugguling business anyway? Well it all started when a caravan passed through Metaia. There was talk of Sononara having interesting technology that could do all kinds of simple and advanced functions. Though the mystery was that the caravan had no examples on their person to prove as much. When asked why that was, they explained the situation and that caught Lumina's attention.
So she made her way here, to confirm what was said but it wasn't enough to see the completed products. She needed to see the source material and well... she had. Though there was an important caveat to that and it was the crux of her deception to boot. "Make sure you don't touch it, fingerprints and all." Lumina informed though she was sure there were many questions to be asked. Sadly, the roller coaster was just getting started!
The rage subsided, as did the aura that accompanied it. And just as Zell let out his sigh, he couldn't help but feel like he had once again done something to get himself into trouble. It was something that he always kicked himself in the ass about. But this time? This time he had no clue as to what he did to start this mess.
"Bravo, bravo. That was a excellent display of physical prowess; I'm impressed."
His head turned to see the pink haired girl nearby who had obviously witnessed this entire mess go down. As she continued on with her observations, the words smuggler caught his attention, as did her eyes looking at his pocket.
"What the--?!" Of course, the damage was already done. He'd never seen that item before in his life, but it still somehow found its way to him. "No, it's not what you think!"
When she suggested running, Zell was already on board. His mind switched into auto-pilot, fleeing the scene rather than stick around and try to explain this mistaken identity crisis. Therefore, he chose to follow the girl's retreat, even following her advice about not touching the item. Surely they'd find a place to dump it nearby.
SeeD or not, this was the situation that he was now stuck in; a fugitive in a foreign city and fleeing from the authorities with some stranger. The events of what had just happened swirled around in his head as incoherent thoughts. Zell wasn't the brightest crayon in the box and having rational deductions is certainly not something he is capable of while in a rush such as this. Perhaps when the pair found a place to hide, he could get some clarity on the situation. Or so he hoped.
"All I wanted was something to eat! Is that so much to ask for?!"

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."
Post by Claire Farron on Feb 8, 2019 15:48:51 GMT -6
So much success and so quickly to boot! Lumina could hardly contain herself, she wanted to laugh but she needed to keep up this plot for as long as possible. Unaware of Zell's...lacking intelligence, she'd reason that she solely had him caught in the heat of the moment. Thus she'd drive up his anxiousness further as they ran. "We need to get off the main roads, quickly!" she stated, before pointing to a side road, then another. She'd practically mapped this escape route out ahead of time. Which meant Zell would soon be treated to Sonora's underworld, a place where the Black Market thrived.
Thus Lumina came to a slow descent. Granted, they weren't really 'underground', not yet anyway. She'd entered a building that seemed to be abandoned. A simple warehouse, scarcely lit but known to the criminal agents. It was a wonder that someone was paying rent on this place but nobody knew who. Nor did they likely care, so long as it continued to be a place where they could meet under the eyes of the zealous guards. Invading Zell's personal space as soon as he came to a stop, she made a motion to snatch the prism ore from his pockets. It had to be done quick to feel like she genuinely did it.
"This little thing caused so much trouble..." she began, holding it with her left hand which was properly covered. "I'll find a place to hide it but you... I don't think you're going to be safe in Sonora anymore. I'm sure the guards and other people have memorized your face. You poor thing, are you still hungry?" surely he must be, so she'd use that to appeal to him. There were a few dusty crates, some covered with a a black tarp. She'd rummage about a few of them before opening it just enough to slip her left hand in and drop it in carefully. Then she'd close it just as carefully.
"Keeping you here until nightfall is safest. There should be some food around here and a bit of entertainment too. Once night sets in, the guards focus their attention to the North. I'll sneak you out of Sonora and bring you to a safe place down south, in Metaia." she explained, with so much confidence, so as to reassure the would be criminal. Little did he know that he'd actually be aiding the real smuggler with an operation that whilst many tried and failed, could just be the first time someone pulled it off.
The pitter patters of footsteps trailed deeper into the unknown parts of this foreign city as the SeeD followed the young girl away from the crime scene. Zell was just as lost as ever, evaluating some of his life choices that may have brought him to this point. It wasn't a good day at all.
"Okay!" He followed the girl's suggestion and continued to tail her while they moved off the main streets. The unknown building she chose for them to hide in was dark and somewhat damp, definitely some sort of storage space that was poorly maintained. Zell took this opportunity to catch his breath.
"The hell is that thing, anyways?" he asked as she dug it out of his pocket to find a better hiding spot for the object. It was hard to believe that all of this ruckus was over some small stone. Did it belong to someone of wealth? And how the hell did it get in his pocket in the first place?
There was so much going on that he could barely keep up with the order of events. Zell was in Sonora for only a day and now had to leave the city, along with his very unhappy stomach that rumbled yet again at the mention of food. He was very upset and wanted some kind of answer as to why those hot dogs he bought had to be wasted.
"Look, I appreciate your help, but you need to give me some kind of explanation about all of this. I'm the victim here, ya know?" Zell was from another world, after all, so of course he would be oblivious to the entire mining operation of Sonora. But this girl seemed to know a whole lot more than he did, so just maybe she would tell him something useful.
"I'm Zell, by the way. Zell Dincht. And I wanna know why this happened to me?"

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."

Lumina gave Zell a sympathetic look. Part of stringing him along the way she had, was making him become completely dependent on her after all. She'd let him say his piece and well, he was entitled to some information, so why not provide it? "It's nice to meet you, Zell Dincht. My name is Lumina." she began, placing her right hand over her chest.
"That stone in your pocket, is a type of rare metal that exists solely within Sonora's mines. It's not meant to leave the city and only select people should be handling the ore in that form, before it's used to make up various technologies in the city. The secret is that it resonates well with magic." Lumina explained, now covering her mouth with both her hands. Then the mysterious girl twirled on the ball of her left foot, so that her back was facing Zell for a moment.
"You're probably wondering how such even got into your pocket? You're obviously a victim in all this, right? Well, recall your actions previously, weren't you around a lot of people?" Lumina was admittedly leading him into his own answer, to help make the deception real. Leveraging what he saw and what was around him previously, things which she'd not seen mind; would work wonders. Her sea blue irises observed him scrutiny. Waiting for the moment of realization to occur in Zell's eyes.
"As for why this happened to you... well, you're a smart guy Zell. A would be smuggler wants to get a rare ore outside of a city that polices it. Said smuggler is trying to make a break for it but not far from your position were guards, interrogating a young girl about those very ores. What would you do~?" further leading, even buttering him up with compliments that weren't true.
Now, she'd bring her left hand to cusp her cheek. Her elbow being propped up by her right hand. The look of genuine concern on her face, would indicate just how much trouble Zell was in. "Just remember to breathe, I'm going to help you, please don't forget that, Zell." and well, she did mean it too.
Lumina's explanation provided some relief for the distraught SeeD. Finally someone understood his plight which gave him a sigh of relief. At least now he had somewhat of an understanding of the situation. Or at the very least, he understood what Lumina wanted him to understand.
"Thank you!" he exclaimed, shifting closer with his hands clasped together. Zell was truly thankful for the aid and took a moment to breathe as instructed.. "So, is it safe for me to even go out and get some food?"
Going back out to look for a meal was the next pressing matter for Zell. He hadn't eaten for a day at this point and his stomach wasn't too pleased about it. He was also weighing the risks of getting caught over some hot chow.
"Do you think you'd be able to grab something to eat?" Zell practically fell to his knees to beg for food. And since Lumina already offered to help, he figured asking for a little more wouldn't hurt. Maybe even the puppy eyes will do the trick.
"Pleaaase!!!"

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."
Post by Claire Farron on Feb 23, 2019 12:02:38 GMT -6
Although Lumina retained her look of concern, seeing the SeeD on his knees, giving her puppy eyes... it was just too much! So she walked a bit closer to him, invading his personal space as she placed her right hand on his left shoulder. Her lips slowly curling into a sweet smile."Oh,you~ Asking so nicely like that, how could I say no~?" she began, playing up her own cuteness as well as being his saviour. The feeling unfortunately, didn't feel as good as she wanted it to. Like she was betraying a part of herself in this instance. No matter, her trouble didn't reflect upon her pretty little visage in the least.
"Still, it's not safe for you to go outside right now. So, if you do everything I ask..." she made sure to speak as eloquently and maturely as she could.
Those words would linger, even as her smile never left. Naturally, Lumina wanted to enjoy having Zell at her mercy like this. He was like an overgrown puppy but was he as loyal as one? They say dog is man's best friend and having a loyal servant who was strong would serve her purposes. Especially since the cost to her was so low! Only when he responded would she finally speak up.
"I'll get you some new hot dogs then, two with the works, right?" Lumina was revealing her power of observation now. "For now though, there is some food and drink here too. Just over there through that door, a little kitchen with a full fridge, stove and all." she continued, gesturing with her left hand to the location in question.
This way, Lumina covered all bases. He could get a little something to hold him over while she went off to reclaim his prize anew. When she returned with the hot dogs, Zell's loyalty would be hers forever. Well, at least until something else distracted is heart. She wasn't going to bet entirely on the long term of a man so simple. It likely would take a bit more of her magic for that but she'd do it. Loyal dogs would never abandon her after all.
With a glow of soft, warm light, her body would become enveloped in it, before she vanished. It would be approximately thirty to forty minutes later before her return. Lumina manifested within the hideaway, a hot dog in each hand; done up just as he had before the guards sent them to the ground. "Ooooohh Zell~? I've fulfilled your request, two hot dogs with the works."
