The sad blue eyes of the abandoned SeeD watched Lumina exit the building, leaving him all alone. Lazily, he rose back up to his feet and slouched his shoulders. "Oh man, why does this always happen to me?"
Zell sluggishly dragged himself to where the kitchen was to find a snack before Lumina returned with the goods. Both the counters and the electrical appliances looked like they had seen better days. Dust lined most of the surfaces with the exception of a few spots where there were smudges. It was apparent that someone else made use of the kitchen lately.
"Welp, time to open Pandora's box..."
Grasping the handle, Zell opened the refrigerator and swung it open. To his surprise, there was a reasonable amount of food inside of it. Of course, Zell wasn't a skilled cook. Usually it was either his mother spoiling him with food, or the cafeteria at the Garden providing meals. Either way, the young fighter never really took the time to pick up that particular skill, which was something he now regretted doing.
"I can't cook any of this," he said, scanning through the shelves. However, he did spot something to drink. Although he wasn't familiar with the brands in this town, the term Cola on the side of the can let him know exactly what was inside. "Jackpot!"
Quickly, his hand snatched the can before cracking it open. Zell exhaled loudly after taking a few gulps, pleased with his find. "Nice! That hits the spot!"
Zell attempted to return to the other room, only to accidentally turn too quickly through the doorway and bang his elbow off the side of a steel box, causing him to drop his drink. It and spilled across the floor beneath his feet and unfortunately, Zell's clumsiness got the better of him. "Damn it!" he shouted, both from the pain in his elbow and the drink as he quickly turned and jumped back. It was then that the blonde bumped into a few cardboard boxes that were poorly stacked which shook from the impact and began to fall all around him. Zell staggered away in confusion, only to slip on the soda that was on the floor and knock himself unconscious upon landing.
Now, he laid in the middle of the room, pass out and surrounded by a large mess of assorted items that were once stored in the boxes. He would not wake again until after Lumina's return.

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."
Post by Claire Farron on Sept 1, 2019 10:21:23 GMT -6
Lumina could do simple or rather handle simple people, easily. Except... what she returned to was... a disaster! Zell was knocked unconscious, seemingly by accident due to no fault but his own. Laying in a pool of cola, which was a waste given it was meant for them to drink and stay refreshed. Now the floor of the abandoned lot would enjoy the sweet drink instead.
Sigh.
Whatever would she do with a dog that she needed to teach? At least he wasn't an old dog, breaking Zell in was possible, surely? For now, she'd casually walk around him and find a counter to place the hot dogs atop. Then she'd return to her carbonated victim, crouching down by his sid, legs pressed together. Her knees acting as a makeshift rest for her elbow, whilst her palm cradled her face. Now, how best to bring him back from unconsciousness?
Waving around her right index finger, she'd poke Zell's side and produce a current of red lightning magic. Not strong enough to even put a dent on his vitality. While certainly being a better zap than most static electricity could provide~ Once Zell was conscious and cognitive of her presence, Lumina would point towards the counter where she left the hot dogs. "Try not to drop these ones, the line for this vendor got longer, if you can believe it." Lumina chastised her pet SeeD. He needed to know the value of her gifts after all!
"So... I did a bit of scouting, looks like we can make a break for it tonight. There's a designated caravan heading out of here. If we can avoid the baggage checks, which should be on high alert all day..." then they'd be out of here and Lumina would have gotten away with grand theft~!

When everything went black there was a sudden stillness around him. Zell felt as if he was floating in nothingness where the only thing visible was his own body. There was no light, no sound, nothing. He tried to move but there was no ground for him to plant his feet onto. Instead, he flailed around like a drowning victim that was trying to reach the surface. But that, too, yielded no results. So here he was in absolute loneliness with nothing but his own thoughts.
As moments pass, a light came from the distance and a surface could be felt from below. Zell's eyes looked down to see that there was a hardwood floor forming from below. The floor assembled itself one plank at a time and as he moved forward it would continue assembling a path that always formed at the same pace that he moved. The light was distant, but not impossibly so. Even as he approached, more abnormalities emerged around him.
Voices. They sounded familiar but were muffled at first. And as the SeeD got ever closer to the light, they became more and more clear. It sounded like a conversation, although he didn't know who was speaking.
"Hey!" he called out, trying to get the attention of the voices.
"He's quite a lively fellow," one of the voices said, not acknowledging Zell's presence.
"Lively?" the other voice asked. "He's just loud." Zell was getting closer. He knew these voices, but he couldn't put a finger on their names.
"Teamwork means staying out of my way," a third voice said. This one was much more arrogant and the tone irritated Zell, although he couldn't figure out why.
His running continued, getting ever closer to the light. It was so bright now and it almost completely engulfed the SeeD before the wooden floor below him collapsed. Rather than float, he fell this time. The velocity increased on his way down which was felt by the air blowing through his hair and clothes. Around him, the darkness began to light up with a different colored hue. Not with a bright white light like before, but with a dim orangish one, like the inside of a small room. His back was towards the ground, so he wasn't able to tell how close he was to the bottom. But what he did notice before the impact was the walls that started to form around the SeeD along with mounds of boxes. By the time Zell realized where he was, a sudden jolt shot through his body and forced him to flop like a fish into consciousness.
----------------------------
"God damnit!" Zell's body sat straight up when he shouted. Heavy panting followed as the blonde teen anxiously looked around the room to see where he was. And of course, right next to him was Lumina, who had returned to the scene. "The food," he said in regards to her comment. His eyes shifted across the room to spot the small mound of hot dogs that Lumina had brought back, just like she promised.
"So... I did a bit of scouting, looks like we can make a break for it tonight. There's a designated caravan heading out of here. If we can avoid the baggage checks, which should be on high alert all day..."
The starved SeeD paid no mind to what she was saying and immediately stood up and darted towards the food. As if some kind of animal, Zell grabbed the hot dogs one at a time and ate them in the most barbaric way possible. With some of the food, he didn't even bother chewing properly and instead took large chomps out of the hot dogs before swallowing to make room for more of his favorite meal. It wasn't until most of the food was gone that he would turn to face Lumina again.
"If yuh fink iht will wuhrk, ih'm douhn wiff iht!" It would be hard to understand what he was saying, as the SeeD didn't even have the decency to stop eating so he could speak clearly. But his mouth was full and he didn't want her to think that she was being ignored for what he perceived as her good intentions. "Fahnk yuh foh duh fooh!"

"Thought I lost him for a moment..." Lumina mused as it took a min to resuscitate the SeeD, in a manner of speaking. Of course, he shot right up, back straight when he returned to the land of the living. Then, ever single minded, the young man honed in on the object of desire; food. Zell got up to his feet so suddenly, Lumina thought she might topple over but was spared that embarrassment.
"Boy, you'd think he hadn't eaten in weeks, look at him go..." Lumina noted whilst she was attempting to go over the plan. Why she bothered, Lumina couldn't say. For Zell's complacency enabled her deviant acts so completely, Lumina was in disbelief! Now, how to capitalize on her compliant partner's waning awareness? Turning him into her dedicated pack mule would likely be the answer. Though how to load up as much of the rare mineral, without tripping up the scanners? From her scouting, she reckoned each outpost was properly equipped and they'd do a scan and manual check. Fooling them on the manual check was easy, fooling the machines required... work.
Focusing her gaze upon Zell, the young man practically inhaling the hot dogs, toppings et al. Given they were searching for him, he'd need a disguise. Sizing him up from head to toe, Lumina reckoned he could fit into a guard uniform quite nicely. Just needed to cover that admittedly handsome, yet dorky mug of his. "Maybe..." Lumina pondered aloud this time.
In her scheme, the Farron nearly missed the garbled words, scarcely able to comprehend them initially. Then, what he said made sense, deciphering by the gist of phonetics. "Oh, don't mention it. Just think of me as your little guardian. I'm an expert~" Lumina remarked casually. Rising to her feet, she'd dust off her skirt before approaching the kitchen in order to open the fridge. He might have spilled the cola but there was other stuff in there. After all, this location was specifically to facilitate illicit deals. Essentially, Lumina had been planning this heist for a little while.
For her journey in this new world had not even begun in Sonara. This was the second place she'd ever visit according to recent memory. If her calculations were correct, selling her illegal goods to another city state, would leave her with a fortune that could last... decades, easily! Granted, no one got rich without spending some money and breaking a few eggs... Investing in her overgrown pup came part nad parcel.
"Do you know your measurements, by chance?" hopefully her sudden inquiry wouldn't cause him to joke but given how she asked with the straightest face...

Zell took a moment to finish his food before responding to her comments about his measurements. It was one of the many things that he did not remember since his arrival on Zephon, but that didn't mean that he couldn't find out what size clothing he wore. Admittedly, it was an odd request from Lumina, but she seemed to be a lot more perceptive than her appearance suggested. She always had a plan.
"Gimme a sec." The SeeD removed his jacket and checked the tag on the back of it. "Men's large," he said, reading the size out loud. "I think I'm about five foot, seven inches." He had to ponder for a moment before giving that last statement. The details of his height came to him naturally and he wasn't sure why. Not to mention that he was not yet sure as to why she asked for this information. "Why?"
In that moment, there was a short flashback that played before his eyes. His view became slightly obstructed which affected his field of view. Even his body felt different, like some stiff and slightly itchy material was wraping around him. As his eyes lowered, he could see that he was now in a blue uniform with sections of grayed armor plating on it. Two others were with him who wore what he suspected to be the same uniform. There was no audio, although he could tell by their body language that the other two people were speaking.
The flashback ended as abruptly as it started which left Zell with some new questions. Based off the uniform he wore, was he a soldier in the past? Or maybe some kind of guard? It would explain his fighting skills, that's for sure. Maybe even why the guards in Sonara seemed so anxious to catch him. Whatever it was, the flashback helped him see where Lumina was going with her questions.
"Wait. Are we gonna dress up like them to sneak out of the city?" That feeling of familiarity returned to him, but it was something that he would have to shake off for now. "It's not a bad idea. I like it."
Post by Claire Farron on Sept 21, 2019 8:02:32 GMT -6
Lumina was surprised that Zell was able to deduce the plan without her instructions. "Oh you're actually quite sharp behind the pretty boy visage, aren't you~?" Lumina giggled before twirling around. "Well then, specifically, you'll be dressing up like a guard. As for myself? Oh... I have ways and friends that can help in case this go awry." playfully wagging her finger, Lumina wanted to reassure him that his personal saviour had his well being at heart. That he could rely on her for anything and everything in this new world.
"I take it those fists of yours aren't just for show or eating contests? You'll probably have to subdue someone with your size. I'll lure one here and leave the rest to you. Don't worry, said guard will be safe and taken care of. We're just going to borrow his uniform..." okay, so the guard wouldn't be 'safe' in the short haul. That was a white lie of sorts, as the guard that Zell would knock out, would be made to look like him, further aiding in their great escape! All while Sonara would believe they 'caught' Zell, go through their interrogation, not find the contraband and then soon realize it was one of their own.
"A fine trick, if I do say so myself." Lumina mused, though she wouldn't share how devious her ploy was with Zell. After all, when did a Master or Mistress share their diabolical schemes with their pets? For the smart ones... never but there were those who just couldn't help themselves. Especially if said pet couldn't speak human language. Unfortunately, Zell could talk so there was no chance of cluing him in. As for her plans after getting out of Sonara? Well, Lumina was about to become quite wealthy, which meant she could feasibly support Zell and herself with no worries!
"So, any questions before I lure a guard here?" best to be thorough after all. "I'm not sure how settled in you are of if you have the means to provide for yourself." Lumina explained, her innocent features expressing genuine worry for the older accomplice. "Once I help you escape, I'll be able to take care of both of us." placing her left hand over her chest, she smiled in a 'humble' way. Meant to reassure instead of boast.

Zell couldn't help but rub the back of his head laugh a little bit from Lumina's remarks about his sharpness. He had his moments, even if they were few and far between. Still, there was the issue of actually pulling off this little stunt.
"Yeah, I'll try not to rough him up too much," he said while shadowboxing to see if he could still throw punches like before. The bump to his head earlier was still sore, so the SeeD still had some concern regarding his actual capabilities. He'd need to be careful not to take a hit when the guard actually arrives and rely on Lumina's word that her plan was thought through well enough for them to actually escape.
"Thanks for the offer, but I just want to get back home." It was a generous offer for Lumina to want to take care of someone she only met hours prior. But there were so many things in this place that didn't make sense to Zell and he was learning to just go with the flow. Getting his memories back was his first priority after they would escape the city. "Let's focus on getting out of here, first. I'm ready whenever you are!"
Post by Claire Farron on Nov 1, 2019 8:50:39 GMT -6
Lumina couldn't blame him when he mentioned just wanting to go home. Hearing someone vocalize said feelings affected her far more than she realized. For a brief moment, she had a sympathetic expression, nodding her head after he spoke to acknowledge Zell. Getting home should be her primary goal even. It was likely just... Well, Lumina had simply cast aside the possibility due to her own memories being as bad, if not worse than Zell's. Combined with her adaptability, which saw her seeking to have fun and make lemonade from the lemons this world was giving her. Of which, Lumina had a ton of lemons!
"Alright then, find a good spot to hide and get your fighting stance ready." Lumina instructed, as it was time for some action! They were going to get out of here, that much she'd see to without fail. Dispersing in light and darkness, Lumina seemed to disappear from the hideaway. Leaving Zell to his thoughts and possible worry as some time passed before the door burst open. The guard was initially alert but ultimately saw nothing if Zell hid as instructed. In fact, he even turned to look outside the door to the girl who cried wolf.
"I don't see the fugitive little girl, I hope you're not planning on wasting my time. Us adults are real busy, understand?!" of course, this grandstanding speech was the perfect time to knock him out, especially as Lumina was playing up her youthful demeanour:
"I'm telling the truth, I swear! Y-you gotta believe me!" just perfect acting, if Lumina said so herself~ After the guard was dispatched, she'd promptly enter the hideaway and close the door behind them for a time. "Right, get dressed, I'm going to clean up and make sure this place remains off the radar..." which basically meant she was going to use some illusions and leave the keys in a designated area, as per the deal she cut.
It'd be late evening when the next part of their plan was underway, Zell would accompany her to a caravan that was leaving Sonora. Knowing her smuggling could be detected easily if they just attempted to leave haphazardly, she'd attempt to trigger sensors and chaos at the perimeter. The guards would search, only to see one of their fellow guards already checking the caravan. No illegal goods to find upon their sweep, while Lumina kept out of sight. Essentially, the trickster aimed to make a real alarm feel like a false alarm and with co-operation from Zell (albeit unknowing)... They'd escape scotch free!
With the Caravan making tracks and Sonora becoming a distant memory, Lumina would say something very cryptic, "Well then, I guess you and I are thick as thieves now."

With Lumina stepping out to find a guard for the ambush, Zell leaned against the wall and waited. Minutes passed as he awaited the arrival of the unsuspecting guard and for a moment, he felt some pity for the poor soul that would be attacked. But the SeeD had no intent on killing the man. He would only knock out the guard to steal the uniform. Hopefully, Lumina found one whose uniform fit him properly.
Soon, footsteps and voices could be heard on the other side of the door. Zell’s back pressed hard against the wall, making sure that he would be behind the door whenever it opened to remain hidden until it was time to strike. The blonde's heart thump harder within his chest with every passing moment in anticipation for the ambush.
"I don't see the fugitive little girl, I hope you're not planning on wasting my time. Us adults are real busy, understand?!"
The comment came after the door swung open and almost smacked into Zell’s face. Luckily, he blocked it and maintained his composure while waiting for the guard to fully enter the room with Lumina close behind. Once they were both inside, Zell shoved the door shut and attacked. He lunged forward and struck the guard in the back of the head with his fist. With only one punch, the guard went down like a sack of potatoes. The Seed expected more of a fight, but this outcome was pleasing enough for him.
A nod was given to Lumina after she told him to change. Zell dragged the body to the back room and began to remove the garments from the guard, though he chose to keep the man somewhat dressed in undergarments. While fitting into the uniform, there were a few things that bothered him enough to begin complaining.
“Ugh.” He groaned while stepping out from the back room. The uniform was now on him, though Zell didn’t seemed too happy about it. “These pants are too tight around the waist. And the gloves are all sweaty. And the helmet smells like bad breath!” Lumina’s ominous comment went completely unnoticed as Zell was too busy voicing his opinions on the garb.
“Let’s get this over with so I can take this crap off as soon as possible. I’m assuming you know where we need to go to get out of town, right?” There was some apprehension that began to fill his mind. He wondered if this was really a good idea and if Lumina’s plan would actually work. But her plan was already in motion and Zell was in too deep to back out now. All he could do now was go along for the ride.

Caravan travel wasn't exactly the fastest. Their departure from Sonora was not unlike the ending of a movie. Slow, nuanced, with the kind of timing meant to evoke emotions within the audience. For Lumina, she was much too happy and could not help but smile knowingly. The whole point of this escapade was to get a certain precious ore out of Sonora. With the help of her unknowing mule and future grunt; she was going to sell this off on the black market to the highest bidder. Netting them enough gil to live comfortably in this strange new world. Of course it wasn't a surprise then that the devious agent of chaos, was essentially counting her chickens.
"So, our next destination..." she began, laying back against some of the cargo. Her legs crossed as a little lady should, she raised her left index finger up. "Provo sounds good..." she reckoned that finding a high paying bidder there would work out. Not that she'd gotten her head wrapped around the geography of this world. At best she had some rudimentary knowledge of select caravan routes to select designations.
Unfortunately, making such a clean getaway, particularly at night, was a bit naive. Sounds that did not provide simple ambience to the landscape could be made out softly. Then they became louder, it was the sounds of footsteps, a right cacophony at that! When Lumina looked out from the back of the caravan, she gasped! "Oh boy, we're not out the woods yet!" her eyebrows scrunched in annoyance, for the blasted guards were running from the gates. A small squadron at that but if that was all, Lumina could have probably dispatched them, maybe. Coming further up the road was an incoming caravan. It's sounds soon blotted out the noise of the guards, as it seemed a group of caravan hijackers, were charging their way!
"This can't get any worse..." Lumina declared, defiantly mostly, as her head still peered out from the curtains, just looking towards the front instead. When she withdrew from her lookout, she looked to Zell. "We've got to protect this Caravan and throw off the guards. If we split our efforts, I think we can do this." this was likely the first time Lumina didn't sound confident. After all, this was the unexpected wrench in her plan and well... right now, she needed to secure their meal ticket. Moving swiftly, she attempted to place both her hands on either side of Zell's shoulders.
"Do you trust me~?" regardless of his answer, her form became shrouded in wisps of dark clouds. She was going to form a chaos infusion around the caravan and summon the local monsters for help. She just needed a bit of time to setup...
