Welcome one and all to our beautiful new skin! This marks the visual era of Adventu 4.0, our 4th and by far best design we've had. 3.0 suited our needs for a very long time, but as things are evolving around the site (and all for the better thanks to all of you), it was time for a new, sleek change. The Resource Site celebrity Pharaoh Leep was the amazing mastermind behind this with minor collaborations from your resident moogle. It's one-of-a-kind and suited specifically for Adventu. Seeing as there was just a bunch of floating ‘weapons’ taunting it from where it stood, the creature let out another bellowing noise, before inhaling deeply. A few moments later, another Blizzard magic spell fired off from its maw—and this time, rather than spreading it along the ground, it took aim right at where one of the two floating weapons was—the same one that was now firing off a Fire spell or two.
Wait—that wasn’t Fire.
Two could play that game!
Another bellowing roar shook the clearing, and this second roar shook the yellow birds to their core, feathers flying and panicking—
Over where Rem was at, the sight of the magic spell headed towards Caius spelled some trouble. She knew that Invisible had its limits and one of those was getting hit by—
“Look out!” she shouted, maybe a little too late as the first Blizzard spell was ploughing right into Caius’ direction. Knowing that she had to get them moving, she then bit her lip, before turning her attention to the Chocobos as she felt the last of the magic fade away, her form becoming visible again.
“Go, go on! Get out of here!” she shouted, flailing her hands at the large birds, who were more surprised at the sudden appearance of a girl wearing a uniform from who-knew-where rather than the Eater now bellowing angrily not too far away.
“SHOO!” she managed to half-scream, waving her hands angrily at them as she continued to try and drive them away, before turning her attention back to where Caius was…
“Are you okay?!” she called out, skidding and dashing forward, watching as a much larger blast of cold energy was headed his way—a Blizzara!
Mr. Eats didn't seem all that happy about what was going on, and Caius supposed he couldn't blame it for getting a little frustrated. Unfortunately, Caius wasn't prepared for magic and was forced to tank the hit. As a barrier appeared in front of him, the Glaive Barrier managed to tank a good deal of it but it didn't stop all of the damage from happening. Caius could feel blood seeping from his arm under the jacket, though Vordun was unharmed, which was good... Vordun inside the jacket had been protected from the brunt of the attack as he was right in proximity of the barrier Caius had put up.
Unfortunately, this meant the end of their invisibility and Caius could see his hands again. Muttering curses under his breath, he looked over to see that Rem was also visible again and trying to scare the chocobos away.
"Vordun!" Caius called to the small lizard that popped out of the jacket, looking at the birds that Caius pointed at before letting out a roar of his own. While Vordun was still a little guy, the roar was loud and sent the chocobos packing. But the move cost them, and Caius would be forced to hide Vordun in his jacket and brace himself when he saw the Blizzara coming. It was too close, too close to counter and his barrier needed to recover...
The attack sent Caius flying and crashing into a tree hard, the impact knocking the wind out of the mercenary as he would cough up blood in that moment. Struggling to regain his senses and gasping for breath, Caius' first instinct would be to check on Vordun, who still seemed to be unharmed. Ensuring he was secure again, Caius would use his blade to prop himself back up...
[attr="class","rem4"]Notes: you gotta take the front line attack!
Thankfully, she didn’t have to exert her voice more than she had to, because there was another ear-splitting roar that came from somewhere—however it wasn’t from the ugly Chocobo Eater that had now launched the cold energy that was headed Caius’ way!
She could only wonder what that little thing that had decided to make a belated appearance look like, before its (apparent) owner was swallowed up by the Blizzara attack and sent flying. “Caius!” she shouted, quickly abandoning the half-hearted attempt to shoo the bipedal birds away and running over to where he’d been sent flying.
“Stay still,” she said once she’d skidded close enough, muttering under her breath and concentrating her healing energy to cast a healing spell on him. Originally she was going to go for a simple Cure spell, but seeing the blood had made her change her mind and bump it up to a Cura. Hell, she was willing to go up to Curaga if needed!
The pale white energy slowly washed over the recovering swordsman, before she extended her arm in order to help him get on his feet quicker. “What—what was that you hid in your jacket just now?” she asked once the other had managed to get back on their feet.
“If I only had access to my black magic spells… unfortunately, I don’t,” she muttered a few moments later. “Are you still up to fighting the Eater?” she continued in his direction a few moments later.
She stood there, awaiting his answer—just as the Eater began to lumber closer to where they both were, intent on knocking them off their feet with its huge, meaty fists coming in for a backhanded swing!
Caius felt a warmth rush over him as his wounds were promptly healed by the Cura spell, and Caius would let out a gasp as he tried to grasp what breath he could now that he could breathe properly again. As he managed to get his bearings and wipe the blood off his mouth, Caius opened his eyes to see Rem asking what he'd just hidden under his jacket.
"Uhh my dog, wait, wait no, my bird. I have a bird in my jacket" Caius responded a bit shakily, remembering the lie he'd concocted by default to allay suspicion from the dragon. He'd called Vordun a dog before but then he realized right now he looked more like a bird and... Well, it all came out wrong seeing as he was still trying to get himself back together so odds were that failed utterly.
"Thanks for the heal" Caius spoke up then as he got to his feet, shaking out his sore limbs with a bit of a hop and a skip to ensure he was ready to go. He'd likely have a sore spine for a good while after that impact, but that was just part of the job. The most important thing was that Vordun was unhurt.
“Are you still up to fighting the Eater?” Rem had asked, and Caius turned to shoot her a grin. "You kidding? I could do this all day" He responded before turning back to the Eater. It was beginning to hurtle toward them, and Caius got an idea. Wrapping his arm around Rem's waist, he would lift her off her feet, muttering "Hold on" toward her ear as he would take off at a run toward the tree he'd just crashed into. Caius would begin running up the tree, relying on the Power of Kings to sustain his ascension as the monster would come at them. As it crashed into the tree, Caius would kick his feet off the tree and send them flying off. Caius would backflip through the air while still carrying Rem and once they had cleared their foe, Caius would call out to his companion.
"Vordun!"
Forgetting a moment who he was carrying in the heat of the battle, Caius let Vordun poke his scaly head out of the jacket and unleash a jet of flames that engulfed the head and back of the Eater before Caius would land on his feet, promptly dropping Rem. Once Vordun had finished his jet of fire, the lizard would quickly hide again.
"Oh, Vermillion Bird," was all she had time for before her companion got an idea. It was... something she was not expecting, the way he had grabbed her by the waist before he vaulted into the air.
Of course, she let out a shriek at the weird sensation as they were on the ground a few moments ago, but now they were flying through the air?! What was going on?!
Hanging on tight to her daggers, she hid her face and bit her lips, the better to prevent herself from screaming out of surprise because... well, while she was fine with flying on an airship, being literally hurtled through the air was something different entirely!
As soon as the strange sensation had come, they were back on the ground where she was unceremoniously dropped to the ground. Jer legs felt like jelly, but there was no mistake: birds did not breathe fire. At least, the ones from Orience didn't.
"Wh-wh-why did your bird breathe fire?" She managed to stammer once she had calmed herself down, attempting to grab onto his clothing to pull herself up from the ground.

"No idea" Caius responded bluntly when Rem would continue to ask questions about Vordun, before returning to the battle without hesitation. Caius would allow two daggers to materialize in his hands, and he squeezed both triggers as he pointed at the reeling Eater, opening fire with rapid fire shots before the thing could get a chance to attack again. Using his own energy to fuel the firearms, Caius shifted a bit as he felt his energy begin to drop in small increments at rapid succession, but soon enough got used to it again as the Kingsglaive would continue to pelt the monster with energy bullets until they would charge him once more in a last ditch attempt to take down its foes before it went down. Caius stopped firing as he raised a hand.
"FIRA!"
The fireball struck the beast dead center and exploded, sending it crashing to the ground. Caius' daggers disappeared and he would summon his sword once more, stabbing it into the creature's chest to finish it off.
Once he was sure that the creature was finished, Caius took a deep breath to steady himself. He would check inside of his coat as his sword disappeared, and he would check on the baby "bird" inside. Once he had affirmed they were okay, he patted Vordun on the head and turned back to Rem.
"You aren't hurt?" He inquired, expecting to hear another earful about the dragon. That was something she continuously seemed to be transfixed on, after all.
