Aranea grunted in disapproval as the man tried to help her from crumbling in pain. She pushed at him to get him to back off as she righted herself. She had had enough hands pouring over her in overly sympathetic gestures the last few days, and she didn't need this kid to think she needed his pity either. She flashed him a glare to stay back; hurt or not hurt she had no problem dealing with a too helping hand.
When he had done trying to play hero, Caius once again tried to convince Aranea of his tale. She had to admit that his fervent and attention to detail caused her to listen a bit more closely this time. He did have a few good points. He looked far too young to have been one of the old king's helpers, and did in fact seem to possess the traits of one. She found it odd that he had been here longer than her as well. Her hunch that time was a little messed up here began to solidify itself more in her mind.
She began to slow down as he started talking about Ardyn. Bile rose in her mouth at thought of the monster and she looked over to see what he was deducing. "Bingo, kid," she sighed as he finally figured out that Ardyn was still alive and well. She let him have a few moments of self reflection before she decided that now was as good a time as any to start formulating a plan.
"So even if Noctis came back, doesn't do us much good here. I still believe everything, but it really doesn't matter does it? Don't know if this is some sort of hell or what, but I'm not going to sit around and let him do the same spiel as last time." Aranea cast a glance at the man. She wasn't sure what he planned on doing but something in her felt he was gonna try something stupid. "There's no use fighting him head on...obviously so don't try." She hated to admit her defeats but if it would keep someone from being hurt then she'd bare the shame. "Best bet is to find Noctis' lackeys again. Ran into two of them a while back but got separated. See what they know and warn them. Maybe, hopefully, there's some like her here as well." She began to walk back towards the temple once more.

Well, that settled that she wasn't going to be taking any help from him. When she did glare at him though, he stared right back at her with a piercing gaze, not exactly backing down but not persisting either. It was an indication that while he'd respect her wishes, if she collapsed entirely then he wasn't going to just leave her there like an idiot would. Either way, he backed off and wouldn't help her again until it became absolutely necessary.
But now it was time to move on to the business at hand. Chancellor Izunia, he'd been told he was the cause of the Starscourge and the demons that had appeared. It was part of his orientation into the Kingsglaive, learning the history of the recent conflict in case something like him came along again. Noctis had slain him, and the eternal black had lifted, the demons had disappeared for good. The Eos he was from had been in a period of peace as the Kingdom of Lucis stood tall. He remembered the dream of King Noctis - to unite the kingdoms of Lucis, Niflheim, Tenebrae and others together as one. Was he still there in his world, making that dream a reality? Would he ever get back to his world to help make that dream as so? He supposed it didn't matter anymore. He'd been here a long time. It was very likely he wasn't going back. Whether this was some sort of hell or not, there were people here that were in danger. Ardyn Izunia was on the loose, and god knows what he was doing now?
"No. I suppose it doesn't matter" He spoke, as she would correct him on the fact that Noctis coming back in his world meant nothing if Ardyn was here now. Sure, it helped there... But they were there. He was here. Ardyn was here. He continued to listen as she would detail some sort of plan. Fighting him head on was useless, she had said, so gathering warriors like he had originally intended on wasn't going to work. "Noctis' retainers are here?" He would ask. He had never met Ignis, Prompto and Gladiolus, but he had heard of them. Was it possible the King had been sucked into this land with him?
Perhaps they had a chance, after all...
He didn't know who "she" was, but he didn't bring it up as the two would make their way back to the temple. Letting out an exhale, he pondered all that had been said.
"It's a shame this isn't something we can just stick a blade into" He pondered aloud. "Always nice when it is."
"Yeah I ran into Ignis and Prompto a while back. Things got hairy to say the least. Haven't seen Gladio or the big guy himself though. Always was one to keep us waiting though," Aranea waved her hand as Caius asked about Noctis' right hand men. Didn't really matter though. She knew without the Oracle or the True King there was little that they could do besides just base discussion of a plan. Hadn't she already spent years of her life doing just that? Waiting for Noctis knowing that heading into Insomnia without him was a suicide mission.
"Still a kid," she taunted as Caius wished they could just attack the problem with brute force. It reminded her of herself when she was still a green bean mercenary. Fight first; question later. Look where that had found her. A mercenary for the Empire and barely escaping becoming the daemon fodder she now fought so diligently against. Time and scars had softened her tendency to immediately draw her blade. Still, she knew what she would have done some time ago.
"So we've come to an understanding then?" Their slow walk back to the temple had found them at the large entrance way. She hated to admit that even this simple walk about the grounds had tired her greatly. Perhaps the monks had been right in keeping her here. Of course, she'd never tell them that now. Trying to casually lean on her spear for support she continued on her point, "You're not going to go try to save the day, and you're not going into the catacombs alone. We need to find answers and Noctis' men first." She wasn't asking but her own sternness made her smirk. Who had she become all of sudden telling others what to do. Would she have listened to herself?
She began to walk back towards her ward before turning once more, "And don't bother coming to check on me. Not big on pity parties. I'll be out of here as soon as they unlock the cell door. I'm not too hard to find when I want to be found if you come across anything. Well then. See ya around, kiddo." Aranea saluted him with two fingers before making her way back to her room. This revelation that Noctis was alive and the Darkness gone was a lot to think about. And if Ardyn had supposedly died and come to this place, perhaps there was chance a good friend might be here too. She would hold out hope a while longer.

"Sounds like we have our work cut out for us".
Even with Ignis and Prompto, their chances of taking down Izunia were, unfortunately, very slim. He knew that fighting him head on was suicide. It took the prophecy and Chosen King to stop him before. The sad fact of the matter was... Caius was not special. He was a man. He was not a Prince, or a King, he was not some chosen one destined to route darkness from the world. He was just a man who had lucked into a job with the Kingsglaive, for a King that he could no longer protect. By just existing here in this world without the King, Caius had already failed his job as a Kingsglaive. Caius had been here for over a year now, and it was pretty clear at this point that he would never be able to return to Eos. He had resigned to that, even if the harsh reality of the situation was a... Difficult pill to swallow. It was not a reality that he had wanted to face that everything that he had known, everyone he had loved, was gone. But it was one that he needed to face now. And for some time, he had found himself falling further and further into depression until it began to consume him.
Caius recalled when he had hit rock bottom. It wasn't pretty. He had considered death to be more honourable than to continue to fail his King, and to live as aimlessly as he had been. He had almost killed himself that day. It would have been so easy, too. It really would have been. All he had to do was load Lonoaw with that energy bullet, take aim... And it would be all over if he aimed it right. If it didn't... Well, a sword through one's chest usually did the trick. But he didn't. He was still here. This was a reality that he needed to tackle head on, start over... Make his own living and make his own fate. The gods had dictated this problem onto him... It was up to him to make his own destiny. His own life. With what cards he had been dealt. This was something that eventually, he learned to accept, to embrace.
And even if he was just a man, displaced from where he belonged, away from the King he had sworn to protect... He still needed to find a way to do something about this. In a way, he almost felt like this was the reason he was here. The gods had dictated he be here for a reason... Was this it?
But he was still just a man. Brute physical strength alone would not be the way to stop Ardyn. Perhaps if they recruited more people like himself and Aranea, it might be possible... Or it might lead them to their deaths. He didn't know. It was a situation he was going to need to puzzle over for some time, he knew.
Aranea taunted him, calling him just a kid for his desire to just be able to stab Ardyn and get it over with. He stuck his tongue out at her in turn, taking it in stride. He had many things he could say in response to that... Most of them inappropriate to say aloud in front of the temple. It was better to not respond.
Aranea would re-affirm their agreement that he would not try to blindly seek out and attack Ardyn, and get himself killed. "Yes" He spoke calmly, with a resigned sigh. "I will not seek him out. Not yet. There's no point in trying to kill him until we actually can."
She told him not to throw a pity party on her, don't check on her. A smirk crossed his face in turn. "So don't come out of sympathy? What if I just enjoy your company?" The former Glaive would tease, his lips twitching into a grin. It was a cheeky parting shot across the bow to end this on. With a casual wave, he would decide to head back to his own ward to rest... He needed to get better if they were to begin gathering information, allies from their world and look for a way to put an end to Ardyn before he could harm this world as well.
Aranea had said he could find her when she wanted to be found. He would remember that.
