Like I'd forget about a friend after we've been together so long
......
Tears don't really suit you Krile
Galuf's laughing at your blubbering kiddo
Four friends stood under a tree, among a small patch of flowers. The words they exchanged kindled hope in the youngest one there, because she knew it was true. They made a promise there. They would never forget each other. With delightful smiles they raced off... So certain in the future...
And then everything went black.
She looked up to her three friends in a void, all staring upon her with blank faces. At first she was happy. After all as weird as this was she had her friends, and so long as she had them she could keep going and....
"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"
......
"No!"
Krile praticully screamed as she awoke from her sleep in a cold sweat. She looked around, confirming where she was. Just the bed she went to sleep in, just the inn she stayed in last night. Everything was ok... No one had... No one had forgotten her, no one left her.
No one except Bartz
The thought hit her hard. He didn't remeber anything about her, every adventure they had was gone. From what Faris told her Lenna had been the same. The only one that DID remeber besides her was Faris. Krile did her best to stay positive but this... This was to much. Their promise was shattered... They had forgotten.
She... Had to fix that, somehow.
She promised Faris they would do it together but... Could they? From what she could tell their was no part of Bartz that remebered. One of her closest friends... Truly the people she was closest to now that her Grandpa was gone... Treated her like a stranger.
"Why.... How could this happen...?"
She finished getting dressed, looking towards the door, as if expecting Bartz to burst through with his antics again, frowning when he didn't. Thay was the thing that really got her. It would be one thing if he wasn't here... Then she'd just be looking for him. But he was here, he was here and he didn't remeber.
She tried to take it off her mind as she walked down the stairs of the Inn. This particular Inn offered breakfast so she got herself a small meal to set for her self, just eggs and some bread. She hoped it would take her mind off the situation, if only for a bit.
She was wrong
A shiver came down her spine and she jumped up. It was a familar feeling. The same feeling she always had when someone she cared about was in trouble. A guiding sense. This one.... told her Bartz was. That in itself wasn't surprising, heck it was common. But that sense of hers... It woudn't be going off if Bartz was just acting up. No... Bartz was in danger and that was enough for her to praticully race out the door right then.
Faris
If she left now Faris would think something happened when he got back. That would only make things worse. She didn't have her Wind Drake right now to go pick Faris up from whatever job she was on right now ether. That only left one option... As uncomfertable as it made her she had to wait for him to come back. Faris knew her sense well, and she was sure would be just as worried about Bartz as she was when she told him.
So.. she would wait, she returned to the Inn's lobby and awaited her friend.
Because no matter what the nightmares told her... Their promise was real. Their friendship was real.
They would come back together...she knew that in her heart.
And one thing was for sure, Faris would return to a very out of sorts friend.

Faris, get your act together
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
The life of a pirate had never been easy.
Faris checked over his shoulder as he slid through an alleyway behind an old bakery, startling a morning crowd of aged women. Faris groaned and dispelled his ninja garb, shooting them a reassuring half-grin before rolling his neck and starting off. A lousy start to the day if he said so himself.
He’d never been one to run from a fight. No, he’d have rather done just about anything else unless his life was dangling on the edge, but he’d had to tread carefully with Krile about. No matter how much it had pained him, he’d had no choice but to pick at easy targets and to bolt at the first sign of trouble. Faris pulled a pouch from his belt, rattling the gil inside. He felt like a common thief snatching the thing, but he’d already put himself in enough danger this month to get him enough disapproving looks to last him a lifetime. His pride mattered, but his friends mattered all the more.
Faris yawned as he trudged down the street towards the inn they’d rented. Without the crystal’s power, he didn’t worry much about being noticed. With a ninja's high scarf, speed, and smoke bombs, hiding his face came easy. Even the tight-knit fit of the leotard came to his advantage as much as he hated it. He’d seen posters plastered for a woman dressed in violet. Faris couldn’t have been farther from the mark.
He didn’t notice her at first as he pushed the door open and started towards the stairs. At this hour, the inn’s front lobby was almost bare, and Faris didn’t give it much attention. That was until he caught a familiar flash of blonde from the side of his eye. He stopped, blinking as he turned towards her. ”Krile?” he asked, and there she was, sitting there with circles under her eyes and sleeplessly slouched into a chair. Faris frowned. ”What’re you doing up alread-?”
He paused. She’d sensed him in trouble. There was nothing else to it. Faris bit his tongue and tried to keep the guilt from his eyes. He’d done everything he could to keep his heart from racing. It hadn’t been worth a thing.
”Couldn’t sleep then?” He kept his tone careful. Maybe it hadn’t been him. Anyone could be struck with insomnia after all. ”That’s a bad lot of luck.”
Oh there he was! Krile looked up to the sound of her friend above her. So he was back! She offered a light smile despite her state if unrest. She questioned why she was up already. A question that made Krile look down towards the ground, a question that clearly bothered her. She wasn't sure if she should bother Faris with what woke her up. After all he had only just gotten back from whatever job he was doing to get money together. On the other hand she could praticully invision him getting on her for not doing exactly that. That was something she needed to remeber despite her worried state, that dream... Wasn't true. Faris remebered her, and they were going to help their friends get back to normal as well. She needed to remeber that because it was true, truer than her darkest dream and fears could say.
"I had... A Nightmare... About everyone... All of you... Being like Bartz, all of you... Forgetting about me, leaving me behind... Alone"
Her worry wasn't unfounded of course, as Faris himself said they were the only ones With their head on straght. But her fear was still there. It wasn't helped by Bartz basicully fufling most of that worry already. He didn't remeber her, didn't even feel an inkling of her. It was made worse really, by the fact he had been the one to assure her they would never forget... And yet now?
She tried her best, but that Nightmare haunted her, in a very clear way today. But... Faris was here and that proved her fear wrong, if only a little. Because Faris did remeber her, snd that meant she had a friend alongside her despite everything else.
She took solice in that, it was enough to ease her tension, easy the worry seeing Bartz again had stirred withen...
Bartz! The memory caused her to jolt to attention, that was the main thing here! Memory or no Bartz was in trouble, they needed to help before... Something bad happened, she didn't care what it was she wasn't about to let it happen!
"Bartz is in trouble! I can feel it! He's gone and gotten himself... Into some kind of danger again!"
That was the other reason she was in such a state of unrest. Of course she could feel the location to, though she wasn't as familar with the world as Faris was yet, so she coudn't name it. It was a time like this she really she really wished her drake was around, it wouod get them there so much faster!
"I know you just got back but... You know how hard headed he's being right now, i woudnt be surprised if he's on the wrong end of some wild beast or angry villiger... Or anything else! He's capable but... He'd be at a disadvantage right now woudn't he? He doesn't even remember how to use his crystal from what I saw"
She worried, she wanted to help her friend now but... She knew it wasn't that easy anymore, dhe didn't have her drake to fly through the sky anymore.
But she still had every intent of keeping her friends safe.

Wait, you're a little rough? You don't say, Faris
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Krile’s voice was weak and uneven with stifled tears. Faris watched her, uncertain what to say until it was done. Then he rubbed at his neck, glancing to the side. ”Aye, with all you’ve seen, that’s not a fear striking from the blue.” Krile had lost the one she loved most, no matter how briefly. Faris knew that pain now. It was the same pain that had pierced him when Bartz gave him that look of concern like he wanted to edge away and keep running. Krile had seen that twice. She was a stronger girl than she knew.
Faris started towards her, pulled out a chair, flipped it around, and sat with his elbows on the back. It felt strange being the only to care for the girl. While he’d have gladly snatched her from a behemoth’s maw and taken its teeth for himself, he’d never had Galuf’s knack for parenting or Lenna’s kindness or even Bartz’ fun-loving spirit. No, Faris was rough and sharp and crass, and even as his heart swelled with affection for the girl, they’d never been as close as the others. Faris wondered if Krile’d noticed that she’d been short-changed in her choice of friends. Maybe she was relieved just to have anyone at all.
”You know Bartz, the scatter-brained dolt. Always wandering about. Never sticking to a thing. He’d forget his own name if you let him.” Faris laughed loudly. ”Me though? I’ve got a right head on my shoulders. How could I ever forget you?”
He nudged Krile in the shoulders with his knuckles. ”We’ll get him back sure as the sunrise You’ve just got to buck up and weather through. He’ll be sitting here before you know it, and then I’ll knock him upside the head for his trouble.” Faris shot her a grin. It was better to stand strong than to let his own fears slip through. A captain who wavered wasn’t worthy of his crew.
But then Krile proved him wrong. Bartz was in trouble. Faris pounded on the back of the chair, cursing. ”That dunder-headed-! Again?” Faris threw himself back and stormed to his feet. ”Well we’d better go get him! Bet he’s met the wrong side of a snarling chocobo or he’s wandered straight into the sea! You can find him, aye? We’ll not be heading anywhere fast, but you can get us started in the right direction!”
Faris shoved his hair over his shoulder, scowling. That boy had set a storm in his heart, and it wasn’t clearing any time soon. That luckless, simple-minded, troublemaking-!”
”Well he isn’t going to save himself! I’ll grab a pair of chocobos and we’ll set off before dawn!”
Faris' words brought her her comfort, probaly more than her friend relized. She was happy to have him here, happy to have a friend with their memories in tact. He nudged her and she smiled. If Faris didn't have a major dislike of it she might be good at ruling, he was certanly helping her. His words caused a notible shift in her mood as she became less deppressed and more like her normal self, granted it was still a normal self concerned for Bartz's well being.
"Faris... Thank you, your right, we'll get him back! We'll all come back together... were the Warriors Of Light after all! Bartz... Lenna... All of us, I know it's true, we... Will always be united, thank you... For helping me remeber"
No matter what, even with a difficult situation like this... They would come back together. Faris helped her see that. She'd grin, going in with the encouragment.
"Ok but i get a shot to, a good pop to the head for forgetting his promise!"
She would giggle, clearly playing around. Having Bartz back would be enough, she missed the fun things they would do together, she missed her friend. In her heart she knew Faris was right. They would all come back together, even in this strange new world.
They were the only family she had left here after all
Was that silly, to consider them that way? After all they went through... Maybe that was why Bartz forgetting about her hurt like it did. A sister and two brothers... Or two sisters and one brother? ...she'd ask Faris later, but the point was they were like siblings now, at least to her. The closest of friends.
But for now...? For now they had to get their wind headed friend out of trouble!
"Of course I can! Just as sure as I found you guys in the moggle forest! I guess this time it'll be like i'm a homing becon... But you know the world better than me, so together we'll find him soon!"
Right chocobos! That would speed them along nicely, also help them avoid as many distractions along the way. Faris knew how to prepare, that was for sure.
"Kind of wish the Drake came here with me... Would get us there way faster. but... I'm sure she's fine back at the castle! We'll have to make do after all, so let's go Faris! We have a wild Bartz to save!"
She lept to her feet alongside her friend, just as eager to rescue their reckless teamate from whatever mess he had gotten himself into this time. She gave Faris a firm nod of agreement to get the chocobos for their trip, taking the time to take her own crystal out and look at it, almost gazing into its depths.
"Grandpa... Would you know what to do for Bartz? You just needed me but..."
She would pause for a moment, frowning.
"Could it be were not the kind of loved one he needs to see?"
Left to her thoughts she would tuck the Crystal back under her shirt and gave a light smile remebering what Faris said earlier.
Whatever it was they would find it.

Faris is not happy about his friend situation
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
”Eh?” Faris glanced towards Krile with his eyebrow raised. ”Not the kind he needs to see? I’d be hard-pressed to think of any others.” He pushed open the inn’s front doors and sidled out onto the street. At this hour, the sky had turned a deep violet and the air was chilled with morning dew. Faris’ steps clicked on slick cobblestone as he considered the sky.
Bartz was as fickle as the wind and just as detached. If he had any friends then Faris certainly didn’t know it. In fact, Bartz cared so little of his past that Faris couldn’t have said a thing about it except that he’d come from a small town, his father was a dawn warrior, and his parents were dead. ”I think we’re about all he has,” Faris said. ”Us and-...”
Faris froze, eyes widening in realization. Then he cursed. ”Blast it all, it's that bird!”
The absurdity of it nearly had him reeling. That chocobo was all that Bartz had talked about around campfires or once he had a few drinks in him. They’d gone on adventures, he’d said. They were “best buddies,” he’d said. No, the person closest to him wasn’t actually a person at all. ”It’s that damned bird!” he said again, slapping his hand to his forehead. ”Aye, that’ll do us a right lot of good! Even if it fell into this mess like we did, we’d have a hard time knowing it! What was its name again? Beaker? Balto? Last I knew, it was off raising a family and Bartz declared himself an uncle!”
Faris groaned something unpleasant before starting forward again. ”I’m not searching every chocobo in the world hoping it’s Bartz’ pet,” he said. ”We’ll just have to make do without it.”
Faris’ heart was a storm as he stalked toward the chocobo ranch. A harsh storm with howling winds and waves as tall as a ship’s mast. Outmatched by a bird! That was the long and short of it, and he knew it. If he wanted something to really connect to Bartz, it wouldn’t be him. The daft bastard!
In fact, by the time they reached the ranch, Faris didn’t even want to look at a chocobo. He eyed them all suspiciously, daring any one of them to steal the heart of his friends again. They blinked at him stupidly and pawed at the ground. Faris scowled and paid the rental fee before rounding them up and climbing on.
”Take the lead and point us straight,” Faris said with a dark glance towards Krile. ”That bird-brained dolt won’t save himself.”
Krile felt the same way, she coudn't think of anyone else that would spark his meory aside from them, anyone else that could had already passed on right? Still if it was like Grandpa,'s case and they nether her or Faris triffered anything it had to be true didn't it? Thst mean't their had to be someone else who could bring his memories flowing back. But who? If the three of them coudn't she coudn't imagine...
The young teen followed behind Faris deep in thought on the subject. Their just wasn't anyone that came to mind. The only other people she could think of that he had seen as often were Exdeath and Gilgamesh. Exdeath was gone and even if he wasn't would not be remotly an option for her. Even if Gilgamesh was around he was liable to only make the situstion a million times worse if she was being honest, probaly get in a fight with Bartz over forgrtting him to or something.
And then Faris said it, and Krile blinked in relization.
"Boko!"
Her reaction was similar to Faris', though she was more annoyed than fuming. It was like Faris said, even if Boko had fallen into this world with them how on earth would they find him? She could communicate sure but that didn't mean stopping every chocobo they saw would make things any quicker. The other thing though... Boko?! Really?! She knew well the bond you could have with an pet but... Really??? She rubbed her head in annoyance, not Faris.. not her... Not even Lenna.... But Boko!
"We all have animal friends were connected to but... Serisoly?? Were being outranked by a chocobo!"
She gave a huff as they approached the chocobo stables. All that travling, all those nights and battles together... And they were outdone by the chocobo! It was weird. On one hand she understood well the bond that could form between animal and man.
But on the other she was really jealous, as could be clearly see in her face. How!
In counter to Faris Krile concoled the Chocobos that met his glare. Giving them both a good brush as they took them out to begin there ride.
"Don't worry its not you guys, we just have a really airheaded friend, sure you know what thats like right?"
The chocobo she chose gave a knowing nod, as if it knew well the kind of person they were talking about. To Faris she gave a nod of confirmation, determination in her eyes dispite how air headed there friend was. He was in danger and, least as far as she one coudn't use his crystal.
Of course he still had it coming for all this. She was just as annoyed as her friend on that front. She would point in the direction they were to ride take pace in front of Faris ad they made way.
Oh Bartz defently had it coming, lost memory or not!
"Let's go bring that feather brain in!"

That's a bad mood right there
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
They didn’t find him.
Despite the speed of their chocobos and Krile’s directions, they lost the trail before they could make any real progress. While Faris loudly cursed the news, he couldn’t say that part of him wasn’t relieved. That meant that Bartz was out of danger. For now at least.
Still, that left Faris and Krile on the side of the road -- sore and several hours out from the city. Faris cracked his neck, stretching his arm out over his head. ”All that riding for nothing. There’s not a man alive better at not being found.”
Faris stalked to the grass and fell into it, letting their blades overtake him. The sun glared back at him with an unforgiving heat. Faris squinted into it before throwing an arm over his eyes. His mood had quieted with time, but that didn’t make it any less sour. ”He’s daft, I say. Daft and scattered and about as sharp as a block of wood. If he’s that set on trouble then we’ll be damned before he’s stopped.”
The earth was dry and dusty beneath him. The grass tickled at his arms damp with sweat. It had been nearly a full day since he’d slept, nearly half a day since he’d eaten, and hours since he’d last felt comfortable. A headache was brewing behind his eyes. Damn it all!
”He wants to leave us so bad? Aye, he’ll have his wish then!” Faris felt a snarl at his lips. ”That cur. He’s not got a thing on his mind but himself!”
A fly buzzed past his ear. Faris slammed it into the dirt with the palm of his hand, scowling. He pushed himself onto his elbows so he could better glare at the road and the chocobos who’s taken them there. ”If that’s his way then so be it. I doubt he ever cared in the first place.”
Bartz had illuded them. Whether by accident or on purpose she didn't know, but her sense had stop flaring so she at least knew he was safe wherever he was. Still she coudn't help but feel irritated. Bartz was her friend, her family whether he remebered it or not! She just wanted to bring him back home... Wherever home was so they could all be reunited! All be together... So her dreams could go back to normal.
So the fear of being alone could go away
Faris was really mad, rightfully so. They came all this way... For nothing. Bartz had slipped through their fingers again. She lost her friend again. She was begining to wonder if it mattered. Bartz didn't recognise her. Going by their last meeting he didn't care to try. It was enough to bring her down. Where Faris was mad Krile was instead starting to get depressed. Four friends... Four friends closer than anything. It seemed like they were down to three now.
That was assuming Lena hadn't forgotten her to
She slumped next to her friendin the grass and listenes to her words about Bartz. At first she didn't say anything, only lending her ears as he spoke. When she did finally speak their was clear sadness in her voice, even hurt. She balled herself up in her knees and shook her head lightly.
"I'm sorry Faris"
What for would be obvious, she had failed to get them to their friend in time. He was safe but it hadn't been thanks to him. Their was even the possibility he had made effort to avoid them all together, they coudn't be sure. But the point was even with her sense... They hadn't been able to bring him back. She only jolted back to attention when Faris suggested they let him stay gone. She was pretty sure Faris was just mad, she was to but.. she coudn't just abandon Bartz. Even even chocobo lover didn't remeber she did. Every last memory... All of them from the happy to sad. She coudn't... Just coudn't let them go.
"I know he cared... He's just... He's just forgotten Faris... I just... I don't know how he can't feel anything"
Tears welled up in the young teens eyes even as she tried to hide them with one hand, Faris was upset after all, it woudn't do to be a burden right now. She needed to help him, so she wi d them with her arms and looked up with a light smile, however forced it was right.
"We... We can't just give up were... Were all friends.."
As upset as she was she coudn't... She just coudn't let herself lose heart... She coudn't lose hope.
Still... Even if she coudn't, that did little to heal the fault in her heart right now. She was just as upset as Faris... But in a different way.

N'aww. Family.
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
”I’m sorry, Faris.”
”Eh?” He glanced over to where Krile had settled on the ground beside him. She looked almost like a pixie curled up with there in her capes and bangles and jeweled hair. Then he noticed the heavy look in her eye and blinked without understanding. ”Sorry? What’re you-?” And then it hit him. She’d been the one leading the way.
”Wait! That’s not what I-!” Horror struck him as he watched her curl tighter around herself, tears welling up in her eyes. Her voice was staggered, her throat tight, and even so she tried to reassure him. ’I know he cared. We can’t give up. We’re all friends.’ Faris nodded emphatically.
”Aye! Aye, I know! I was just-! Hey now!” Faris leaned in towards her, trying to meet her eye. ”I didn’t mean a thing! I swear it, captain’s honor! I didn’t mean to-!” Faris cursed under his breath and looked away as though that would somehow spare her from his foul influence.
This was his fault. He’d let his temper get the better of him, and now he’d driven the one friend he had left to tears. Lenna would have taken him aside and let him bluster and rage until her soft words could reach him and make him feel a fool. She would have calmed him like a cool stream to his wild flame, but Lenna wasn’t here, and he wouldn’t take excuses. He’d hurt Krile and that was all there was to it.
”I’m sorry.” His voice came gruff and quiet. ”You’re not at fault for a thing.” He swallowed. His anger had hurt less than this. ”I care for him. More than I can say. With his head all muddied...Thinking he knows me as a stranger…” He let out a shuddering breath. ”Aye, that’s the hardest part of all.”
A gust of wind rustled the grass as it passed. It smelled of dry earth.
”So I’ll not have tears, aye?” Faris tried for a grin and nudged Krile on the shoulder. ”You’re as clear as a crystal, and I’m a right fool for not following suit. We’ll need to stick together, you and I. Somebody’s got to keep me on track.”
