Have you seen this man?
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Bartz and Lenna were missing.
Just as soon as they’d all reunited, the both of them disappeared in the night as though they’d never been there at all. Faris had woken to an empty hotel room, uneasy at the silence. Still, he’d trusted the two must just be out together so he’d waited. And waited. And waited until the sun had slipped into twilight and he was pacing, jaw clenched as strange possibilities came to mind.
Where were they? Had they been kidnapped? Were they in danger? Had they taken a midnight walk and been murdered in the streets? Neither of them could defend themselves, and if they’d gotten themselves into trouble…
Faris didn’t stay the night. No, he was out the door by nightfall, stalking through the inn’s front door so forcefully that he heard the frame shake behind him. He was going to find them. By all the sea, he was going to find them.
No one in Torensten had seen them. At least, no one he’d asked had seen anyone who looked like them. No blue-clad, chipper lads or pink-haired women in small dresses. He asked around for the next day before moving on, asking every traveler on the road for guidance from Torensten to Provo. Provo was the biggest city, the place they’d most likely have gone, and even still he couldn’t help but lose hope. What were the chances they’d made it that far without running into some wild beast or another? And what were the chances they’d have come at all? Faris didn’t know, but it was his last hope, and he’d be damned before he stopped trying.
”Hey you! The lad in the green sweater! Have you seen a man about this tall, brown hair, blue-clad with a cape? Ah. What about a-?” Faris trailed off as the boy he was questioning walked away. Then he sighed.
This was getting him nowhere. The streets of Provo were full, sure, but was it likely any of them had seen a pair that had gone missing a city away? Still, as the next passerby started towards him, Faris straightened his back and planted himself right in the woman’s path.
”Lass! Have you seen a woman, looks a tad like me but with pink hair? Oh. Or a man with a cape? He’s got brown hair, all messy like the wind got ahold of it, and-!” No, that one was a bust too. Faris grumbled something to himself and shoved his hair behind his ear.
He had to get a lead somewhere. He just had to!
”Ah, you there! Have you seen a lad with a blue tunic and a cape? Brown hair? A bit on the duller side?”
That voice.... She knew that voice. That complelty netural toned, hard to idenify voice, the way he spoke... She defenitly knew it! She turned on a dime as he called to her. Even amongst the crowd she clearly saw her ears were right. Faris... That was Faris! He was looking for someone to. The description matched another one of their friends. Wait did Faris...? No no she couldn't get to excited, that didn't pay off well last time. Bartz.... She still had to help him. But Faris... Was he looking for Bartz? Even if he didn't remember he still at least knew who Bartz was since coming here. But maybe...
"Hey! is it Bartz your looking for?"
Between the crowd she tried to find a good spot she could stand and talk to her friend. That was him, their was no denying it this close. The problem was she didn't know how to react from here. Whether or not to ask. She wasn't sure how she'd be able to take another friend having forgotten her. Just having it with Bartz sent her for a loop. He was still Bartz but... One that didn't remeber. At least not yet! She was determined to fix that, no she WOULD fix that. Even if she had to take her staff to his head every day for a year till the memories came lose!
So if that was the case.... Yeah if Faris forgot her... She'd just have to the same! ....even if she would probably get a lot more push back from him. She'd always be there for her friends, whether they remember her or not! So she gave a bright smile and a deep breath as she calmed her nerves, tried to steel herself for what was coming. She could do this... Grandpa would give her such a lecture if she let this shake her!
"Hey do you... Happen to know who I am at all, Faris?"
Bartz mentioned Faris and Lenna doing much the same as what she had done so she... Hoped so. Wait if that was Bartz he was looking for why was he calling him dull? Sure the guy could be really, really dense at times but... the guy did get out and see a lot if nothing else. Though... To be fair the guy was pretty much a hermit in all but title, more so if you had him around a bunch of Chocobos.
"I've seen Bartz recently! Though he didn't.... Really remeber much..."
The young girl frowned, the reason probably clear to Faris if he did remember.
After all, that was their promise.... To always be friends.
A promise Bartz forgot.

THIS PLEASES FARIS
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
The portly woman in front of him looked alarm at all the questioning, and just shook her head, muttering excuses as she slipped away from Faris unfettered. Faris growled behind his teeth, holding back the kind of curses that he’d have slung like arrows on the deck of a ship. Daft, yellow-bellied dullards! They couldn’t even handle a few questions and it was his fault for standing in their way? Faris had battled his way across two worlds and back, and a minute of their time was too long even to find some missing persons?
And then he heard a voice. A sharp, familiar voice not yet fully aged. Faris froze in place, eyes widening in recognition. He knew that voice almost as well as he’d known Lenna’s, and he turned to it in an instant, searching around desperately for that swathe of blonde hair.
And there she was was. That sweet, intelligent child came running up, asking if he’d meant Bartz, and it was all Faris could do just to stare at her in wonder. Had the stars aligned to bring them all together at once? He’d gone months, maybe years, without seeing another familiar soul, and now…
"Hey do you... Happen to know who I am at all, Faris?"
”Aye! Of course I do!” The cry left him in an instant like a rally to battle. ”You’re Krile, as sure as I’ve known anyone!” His heart swelled with something between relief and joy. She’d called him by name! She’d remembered! She’d-!
Faris let loose a loud, boisterous laugh and grabbed her by the waist, pulling her up into a tight embrace, spinning her around once, and then dropping her again on her feet. He couldn’t stop grinning. ”You remember!” His cry rang like a gong through the city square. ”You’re here and your head’s still intact! I was starting to think I’d be the only one! All alone, trying to herd a bunch of amnesiacs out of trouble!”
He paused, scowling. ”Not that I’ve done a great lot of good so far. Bartz went wandering off in the night, and Lenna…” He hesitated. ”Aye, Lenna has to be with him. There’s no other way about it.” Faris shook his head. No, he wouldn’t think of such grim matters now. He’d found another friend, and that was all that mattered.
”I can’t tell you how good it is to see you!” He gave her a look of pure warmth. ”Aye, I’ve been stuck here for enough moons to nearly lose my head, and finally I’ve found the lot of you. If we put our heads together, I’m sure we can figure something out! If Bartz ever gets his head back, that is.”
He remembered! He actually remembered her! A smile crossed he face and she happly laughed along with Faris as he picked her up and spun her around. Yes! He did he remembered everything! This was wonderful, amazing! Krile was at a loss for were, only able to laugh and bask in this joy with her friend. They were both here... They both remembered each other. She couldn't ask for more than that! She was grateful, so grateful that he did. The smile never left her face even as she was let back down. This was simply... Amazing, she couldn't stave off her excitement, she didn't want to!
"Of course I remember Faris! I remember you, Bartz Lenna, Gramps...."
She paused for a moment, that particular memory taking root for a moment. The memory of losing him all that time ago... But no! This wasn't the time to morn, no Gramps would want her to be happy, to celebrate! She found Faris. She was certain that together they could help Bartz and Lenna. Going by Faris' words they seemed to have have the same issue, that memory loss. But they would fix it together! After all they both had those memories, so they couldn't deny two sets right? No way! Course she really didn't see Lenna beung as stubborn as Bartz might be on the subject, so he was probably the roughest patch to fix... But they'd handle it in time. Until then they just had to be there for them right?
Krile couldn't help but giggle a but at the thought of Faris herding the rest of them along like cattle. Well Faris once led a band of pirates right? If their was going to be a 'group leader' it would probably be him or Lenna. Faris had the experience from her crew, while Lenna was a princess herself! Well so was she but.... Nah they were way more suited to it, Krile would help if she had to, but she much preferred Having the freedom to do whatever she needed to do to help her friends. To her being at the lead slowed her down in that regard. It was one of the reasons she only ever talked about taking the throne in her world as a joke, she was to young anyway!
"Herding us like your crew right? I dunno that could be fun... Maaaybe..."
She teased her friend a bit, though she had to admit that wouldn't be the worst thing. They were already all friends, all they'd need is a ship! Another idea was the mercenary thing everyone did, they'd probably good at that-more so with the power of the crystals at their side. Though... She did frown a bit at his next words. He seemed to be blaming himself but... Until she came along he was the only one of them that still had memories of their past. She was sure Faris did his best but... Bartz was a wild card. Even Lenna was probably hard at first, if easier because of their connection to each other.
"Faris I'm sure you've done great! I'm sure their fine. How has Lenna been? I'd assume she's been easier to help than Bartz right?"
She paused for a moment placing her hands at her side and looking down. It still bothered her a bit.
"Bartz didn't... Seem to remember me though. I thought maybe if we just spent time together but so far... I do hope we can help him get his head back on straght... Maybe together it'll be enough!
Faris did help her cheer up rather quickly though. One of her friends remembered her, was happy to see her.. she couldn't just stay down! They'd help all their friends in time but for now...
"I'm happy to see you to Faris! Its great! I'm sorry you've been here alone so long but... Now were all here right? Just gotta help Bartz but after that we're back on track! I mean... Can only deny so many people with memories matching right? We've got this covered!"
Yeah... They'd do it together, they promised after all... They would always be friends, the four of them.
Of that she was sure.

Ahead On Our Way
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
”Right!” Faris put his hands on his hips, squared his stance, and nodded. ”If there’s anyone’ll that’ll wrangle those louts, it’ll be us! We’re Warriors of Light whether they believe us or not, and that’ll be the end of it! With the both of us at it, they’ll have no choice but to surrender! Even if it means beating it into Bartz’ thick skull!”
Faris laughed. It had been a long time since he’d felt this confident. Just having a familiar face -- one that recognized him, that was -- made all the difference in the world. For just that moment, it didn’t matter that they were in a foreign world with no route home. It didn’t matter that Faris had lost Lenna and Bartz in the night. He’d found a friend and one hell of an ally to boot, and that was all that mattered.
”I should have seen it coming. Bartz was fidgeting like fish out of water, and he didn’t believe a word I said if his looks were anything to go by. He probably thought I was taking him hostage since I wouldn’t let him wander off on his own. He didn’t even know how to use his crystal! The useless lout. I wouldn’t have him go stumbling into the mouth of a marlboro on his own.”
Faris let out a short breath through his nose as he crossed his arms. Just the thought of that self-proclaimed “wanderer” made his blood boil even now. Life would’ve been a lot easier if Faris hadn’t cared for him so much.
”Aye, we’ll need a plan then.” Faris tilted his hip to one side and touched thoughtfully at his lip. ”Where did you see him? Bartz? We’ll need to start there and try to track him down, the lousy wanderer. He can’t’ve gone far if his crystal’s not in proper order. So long as he hasn’t found a chocobo anyway.”
Faris straightened, head held high. ”Well, what’re we waiting for? We should be off before we’ve wasted another breath! That dullard won’t find himself!” He grinned a little, exhilarated once again. ”We’ll talk on the way to the nearest chocobo ranch. You’ll have to tell me how you’ve gotten on once we’ve got our course set. I’ve got enough stories to fill a book and then some!”
She enjoyed Faris' company. It was nice being able to talk with a friend like this, instead of worrying about whether or not they remembered anything about her. It was uplifting and filled her with hope. They would help Lenna and Bartz. Of that she had no doubts alongside Faris. Yes... She smiled brightly at the thought. Her expression became more serene. Yes... That was a fact. Krile kept her promises. She would not abandon them. She couldn't help but giggle at Faris' assesment of Bartz though. It was right on mark. From what she could tell that was exactly what Bartz thought. Bartz had always been more of a free spirit.
She supposed what bothered her most about him forgetting was more than their promise. They had gotten along so well and now... He knew none of that. That was what hurt the most. It wasn't Bartz' fault this happened, but it only made her want to fix things more. She would to alongside Faris, no matter what!
"It was the same while I was with him, nothing. I couldn't believe it at first... Thought he was just messing with me but... He's so stubborn Faris! I'm worried about him... It's like you said he can't even use his crystal... As soon as possible I want to find something help him... Even if that means jolting him with a thunder spell or something!"
She was determined to fix things. To make everything right again. That was her goal, fhe promise they made, all four of them happy again. It was like Faris said-they were Warriors Of Light, that was just the fact. They we're friends who stood by each other through several battles. They supported each other, protected each other. When one was down the others brought that person back up. Now was no different. Bartz was the first one she got that close to, Faris and Lenna soon after. His friendship meant a lot to her. They all did. That was why... Yes that would be why she had no intention of stopping. She'd find a way.
"He's a handful but we'll drag him back in Faris! Together"
Her next laugh was rather weak as shd scratched the back of her head nervously at the pirate leader's words. He was right they defently needed a plan to get through to him. The thing was though...
"Well see Faris... The place I met Bartz was a Chocobo Ranch... We were helping a man there. The thing is he uh... MIGHT be able to get a Chocobo now. The man let them borrow one for job for him anyway... But maybe we'll get lucky? The ranch isn't to terribly far if I remember right, we could check. He does love ths birds so... He might come back around"
Faris was uplifting, she couldn't frown when he was like this. No, he was right. They would get this done. Bartz wasn't going to to just pop up in front of them. No they'd have to hunt him down themselves!
"Right 'captian'! Let's go!"
She'd tease her friend a bit more before nodding. Yes this was the turn around, she was sure of it!
"Well you know me! I'm sure your journey has been more interesting before now... But I'll be happy to share! Just been putting my skills to use!"
Part of that was her crystals, but mostly it was her ability to communicate with animals living and spirit. Yes... But now? Now she was back to what she was supposed to do, with her friends.
Yes she was a warrior of light, this one? Was one that would always stand by them, whether they remembered her or not... She would always be there for them, whether they wanted her to... Or not. That was jsut how it was.
She looked to her friend and toom a step forward with a smile. Yes she was sure of it, they would fix things.
"Let's go Faris! We've got a hardhead to set straght!"

RIP Bartz
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
They were both on the same page, it seemed. Unsurprising given Krile had always had more sense than the rest of their friends combined, but it still felt good to have someone agree with him after all the time he’d spent with Bartz. They’d bring him back whether he liked it or not, and they’d do it by force if necessary. After all, wasn’t that what friends were for in the end?
But then something dulled Krile's confidence. Faris paused, looking to her in interest as she laughed, rubbing at the back of her neck like she had something to hide. Faris’ gaze turned wary as he waited for whatever news she’d drop on him. He wasn’t disappointed.
”He what?!” Faris stopped, gaping at the girl, before the full force of her words hit him and he let out a groan. ”Oh that thick-headed, no-good wanderer!” Faris’ yelling echoed around them before he quieted himself with a short huff of frustration. ”I should’ve known he’d find a chocobo! I’ve yet to see so much as a feather of those birds, and he’s set a course straight to them in days! He could be anywhere by now! And he’ll be just about impossible to hunt down when he’s blowing about like a leaf in the wind!”
If anyone could evade pursuit, it was Bartz if only because he never had a clue where he’d end up. Faris could only imagine what kind of trouble he’d get himself into on his own. Monsters were only the beginning with him. Who knew how many scoundrels he could offend, how many devils could fool him, or how many traps he could fall into! Bartz had always had a knack for stumbling straight into absurdity whether it was helping a princess at a fallen meteor, getting taken hostage by a band of pirates, or accepting the power of the crystals by accident alone.
No matter what the circumstances, one thing was for certain. Left to his own devices, Bartz would fall face-first into matters in which he didn’t belong. The universe demanded it.
”We’ll check this ranch and see what we can find. Maybe get some chocobos of our own if we’ll want any chance of catching him. That 'hardhead' should get some sense smacked into him before he stumbles straight into a ravine.” Faris shook his head, rubbing at the side of it before he nodded to Krile, eyes bright.
”Aye, I’ll take your lead then. Bartz’ll have to keep on his toes if he plans to keep away from us!” He turned towards their destination, grinning his determination. ”Between the two of us, that lout doesn’t stand a chance!”
