"Got a story for me?"
Violet hadn't actually meant that there were, perhaps, auras he couldn't see. She had meant it more literally. That he had thought he understood everything when perhaps he didn't. But however he took it, it seemed he was at least willing to consider her point. Which was a start.
And not bad for her ol' ego, either, given she had basically just schooled a God on wisdom. Not bad for a teenager from Midgar.
"Y'know, I've interviewed quite a few people, and I always find, the most ignorant ones are the ones who think they know everything," Violet pointed out. "You gotta be willing to accept there might be more than you know to actually learn, so, uh, good start," she nodded. Okay, maybe she was trying to play up the whole 'teenage wisdom' thing a bit, but she couldn't resist.
"Thanks, I try," she smiled when he told her he DID think she looked smart. That was reassuring. Especially if he could see her 'soul'. You could try and dress smart, act like you were intelligent, but at the end of the day, it was nice to hear that someone who could see who you were on the inside thought the same. Especially since Violet sometimes had her own doubts about herself. Oh, she tried, but sometimes she felt like an inexperienced, spoiled ditz. It was nice to hear that she wasn't.
She smiled as he began to think about using his music, because it seemed obvious. To hear a musician wonder how to express himself was kinda ironic, she thought, but luckily he landed on the obvious answer soon enough. "No, no, keep talking, I think it's cute, hearing you figure it out," she giggled softly. "Writing him a song sounds like a great idea. I mean, of all the people with the talent to express how you truly feel, you're a musician, right? You were basically born for this," she pointed out. In the same way she supposed she was a writer, so she was probably born to write how she felt about someone... one day. But somehow that seemed less romantic than a song. Especially a song from an ancient God...

"Got a story for me?"
Violet cocked her head slightly and smirked. "You're a boy. Of course you're used to thinking you're right. Most boys are," she teased. She wasn't quite being literal. No, she had meant 'all-knowing' in the sense that he could detect emotions and was apparently thousands of years old, but she couldn't resist the playful tease. "Of course, they're usually wrong, but hey, they don't listen to us," she shrugged. Obviously meaning 'girls'. At least in Violet's experience, after all.
She was slightly surprised however that he ended up agreeing with her. Not because she thought she was wrong, but because in her experience, older men did not listen to the teenage girl and her opinions on things. However, she had felt confident in what she was talking about, and he seemed to realise it too, as he started speaking about the range of feelings he had. She had lost slight track of who the mysterious third person was, but she didn't need that to either write about or understand love across the aeons.
"See, being in 'limbo between life or death'," she practically said the quotation marks out loud given she didn't really understand what they meant, "for most of time and he still waited for you, that's a pretty big sign. Maybe there's more to life than what even you can see," she suggested. She did however pause a little, and frown when he suggested it was something 'deeper' than love. "I'm not sure there is anything deeper than love. Love is the ultimate emotion we feel for each other. It doesn't mean it's just romantic or friendly or sexual, it's not just like, lust, or whatever. But love... it's complicated and weird and can come in loads of forms, but I also think it's pretty infinite. Love is a thing that can't easily be defined. Even if you've got super cool aura vision or whatever you call it," she said, waving a vague hand and deciding not to check her notebook for the terminology she had scribbled down earlier.
She laughed a little when he called her a 'teenage journalist', and she had to admit, she hadn't expected to be able to change his mind. He was basically a God, and she was a snobby kid from upper class Midgar. She knew that she was. She tried to be understanding, but at the end of the day, she knew she was posh and spoiled. She hadn't expected to be get through to him, and it made her realise that perhaps she really did understand more about people than she thought. Maybe she was actually good at her job.
"Hey, I'm smarter than I look," she teased when he said that. "And don't say that's not hard!" she added quickly, knowing the impression her blonde hair created. She smiled when he said he couldn't promise, but he'd try. "That's good. You should try. For you, not for me! It doesn't affect me," she reminded him with a smile.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet noted that he didn't go into too much further detail with her read that the version of events he had presented; well, it was all down to humans being awful. She was no stranger to that, really. Midgar was a mess because of Shinra. She was pretty certain of that these days. And even if it wasn't Shinra, it was AVALANCHE. It was humans killing humans and causing problems. They even said the meteor was summoned by Sephiroth, who was a human (wasn't he?). Her world had been dying because of humans being idiots. It sounded like Hythlodaeus's was the same.
Luckily, the conversation moved on, to a topic she was more comfortable with. That was, who loved who. And he began to explain that he could literally 'see' love in people. Which immediately made Violet think about all the embarrassing crushes she had, which made her feel slightly sheepish. She listened to what he said, but she still wasn't sure she entirely agreed.
"Do you ever think that because you can see everything, sometimes, you might misread what you see?" she suggested. "Because, look, I get it. You're an ancient all knowing being who can read emotions and I'm like, eighteen and some rich spoiled brat from Upper Plate One," she said, because she forgot for a moment that he'd have no idea what that meant. "But trust me, even I know love is complicated. There are loads of different kinds of love, but it's all still love. Like, how I felt for that boy back in high school? Totally different from say, how I feel for Genesis, who, oh my god is hot," she explained. "But a celebrity crush and love are different. And the love for one person might be different from love for another person. Just because he doesn't look like you expect love to look doesn't mean it's not love. I mean, have you tried talking about it?" she suggested.
She realised that this was slightly outside her remit as a journalist, but she couldn't help herself. Seeing romance in jeopardy was far more important than a story, right? Plus, if it all worked out, she could have both!
"I mean, I dunno, staying by your side after all this time, it sounds like a kind of love to me," she said. "Maybe not the same love as you have, but love none the less. Friends are pretty easy to come by. He could go find somebody else. But he chose you. Despite knowing how you feel about him. Doesn't that tell you something?" she asked.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet nodded slightly as he explained the story to her in simpler terms, but she still didn't think he was doing much to really sell this idea to her. She looked at him, with a mixture between sympathy and worry. "I mean, I get it, it's just, it's hard to hear that story, and not come away thinking 'everyone sucks', right?" she said. "I mean, it all started because men made the weapon, right?" she asked. Again, not entirely unlike her own world, when she thought of Shinra and what they did. The SOLDIER program leading to Sephiroth's rampage. Information had been scarce about it, but it had been a matter of record that Sephiroth was now a terrorist, and had attacked Shinra Tower. Or maybe she only knew that because she was in a privileged position with her parents. She never actually had found out how wide spread that news got out.
But she decided not to bring that up right then, as it'd only muddy the issue, and proving her world was just as bad probably wouldn't help her point at all.
"Okay, well, whew, that's a relief," Violet smiled when he confirmed that they couldn't make any more concepts on Zephron. That was for the best. No God-killing planet-destroying monstrosities made by accident any time soon, which was something positive.
He went on to explain how she could have modified her body if she was an 'Ancient', but he couldn't, and neither could she, and it needed 'Aether' anyway. "Uh, yeah, sure, totally normal," she nodded sceptically, because, it was anything but, but she decided not to argue the point too much. He then went on to say that he doubted that Zephron was truly a fractured part of his own world, and she sighed. "Well, there goes another theory up in smoke, I guess," she sighed. And she had thought she had something there. For once, she had thought she had a lead, but it seemed to be another dead end. How could so many people be ripped from their realities and yet not a single one knew why? There had to be a clue somewhere. She just had to FIND it.
He also went on about how no new bodies could be made, and the people in question saved the world by fighting various bad guys, and she just nodded. Right, yeah. Big fight, world saved, that was fine. She wasn't about to report on all of that. She figured it wasn't particularly interesting to the citizens of Torensten. Or to her. She had never been big on action stories, and she felt like she had enough cosmic importance stuff to write about to not worry too much about a later battle.
She laughed a little when he called her question 'curious'. "Hey, you may basically be a god, but you clearly haven't spoken to many teenage journalists," she teased, since to her it was one of the main questions she'd ask. "Far from it for me to tell a guy who's 'aeons' old anything, but I'm pretty sure platonic besties don't usually sit together and watch colours swirl in silence, just to enjoy each other's company. Plus, that whole, playing tricks on each other thing? Sounds like a major crush to me. And besides, it's been Aeons! People's feelings can change. There was this boy in school who I always bickered with. He kept calling me a spoiled princess and prissy and complain about how much perfume I wear and stuff, and god, I HATED him for it. Then, one day, my friend tells me it's 'cause he has a crush on me. And I'm all like, 'ew, no way', but over the year the idea of dating him kinda, sat in my head, and by the time that school year was up, I was totally into him," she explained. And then she paused. "Of course, by that point he'd moved on and was shacking up with my OTHER best friend but y'know, the point is, feelings can change over time. How'd you know he still doesn't feel anything?" she prompted. She might have been looking to solve the greatest cosmic mystery in the universe, but Violet could never resist a little love-gossip.

"Got a story for me?"
"I mean, I kinda feel like half the planet dying to stop it blowing up at the hands of some space travelling monster you created is a tiny bit of a reason to fret," Violet couldn't help but say rather sceptically, when he tried to alleviate her fears.
"I mean, listen, I wasn't exactly the brightest spark in school all the time. I know what it's like when you get asked a question on an exam and think it might be better to blow up the universe instead, but that sounds kinda extreme..." she said, unable to avoid the joke. She paused though, processing the information. "Wait. So you guys made this 'Concept' that was powerful enough to destroy your entire world? And then you summoned a God even more powerful to stop it that also could destroy the entire world, so you summoned a THIRD God to fight your second God?" she blinked. Okay, so just because they were Ancients didn't mean they were master strategists it seemed. "Wait, that's not what I was gonna ask. I mean, also, you used to create these 'concepts' right? And one of them nearly blew up the planet? So, like, um, just to check, you're not doing that anymore, right? Like, no more Concepts being made? Riiiight?" she asked, just to double check. She felt like it was an important safety check.
"Oh, is that all?" Violet blinked when he told her that they just had to leave their bodies behind to skip between worlds. "Trust me, if we could do that, I'd go jump to a skinnier body every time I was worried I was putting weight on in my thighs," she said. And then she paused, frowning a little. "Wait. Is that something you can actually do? Jump to another body in another reality? So you could see if there's a way off Zephron?" she asked. If Zephron WAS another reality, then surely Hythlodaeus would be able to tell, if he could do that?
After all, for Violet, and indeed, anybody else stuck there, how would they know one reality from another? What if Gaia was just one of the fractured realities he had mentioned? And now so was Zephron? There was a new thing to check. He said fourteen realities. So if she met people from more than fourteen worlds, that theory got sent out the window.
"Right. So... you have a friend who can make people new bodies?" she asked, again raising an eyebrow. "Because, seriously, I can think of some work I'd like done. A whole new body, custom made to order, that'd be awesome!" And then she paused. "Or possibly really creepy," she added, frowning a little.
And then she frowned more as he explained his 'new old friend'. "Wait, your friend fought Emet-Selch? But I thought Emet-Selch was like, your boss and one of the good guys?" she asked. "No offence, but your world is like, super confusing, but I think I'm starting to get it," she said, looking down at her pink paper and the scribbles all over it.
And then he went on to explain the battle. And Hermes still being alive. And a Goddess being at the end of her life. And a Chosen fighting them? And a Rift and Champions and somehow somebody still being 'fractured'. She just stood there blinking, resisting the temptation to tear out the page and start all over again.
"Okay, um, I'm... I'm just gonna write 'there was a big battle' here and move on, because, that's... that's a lot," she said. Not really due diligence as a journalist, but her head felt like it was spinning. Despite the fact he asked her if there was anything else she wanted to ask. And she was still interested, of course, in how his world worked. In how he seemed to be an immortal God or how he summoned Gods or how they made other Gods or all that stuff. It was confusing as heck, but it felt important.
Just, she needed a break for a moment to figure out what she did know.
So, instead, she just leaned in a little, cupping her chin on the backs of her hands. "Soooooooooo, tell me about Solus...." she asked with a smile.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet couldn't help but let out a little squeal of delight and give a little fist pump of 'yes!' when he confirmed that her soul was, indeed, pink. Mostly, pink, anyway. As she had always suspected it had to be deep down. And it was not something that would surprise anybody, given that even Violet's otherwise 'professional' notebook was pink, scented paper, because of course it was. Everything about her was, well, 'girly', for lack of a better word, and she was definitely proud of it.
His read on her was shockingly accurate though. Yes, she was curious, obviously. She was a journalist. She supposed that bit was obvious, even without seeing her 'soul'. But he spoke about her wanting to be popular and the centre of attention, and she sheepishly looked at her feet for a moment. "Guilty. As charged," she admitted. Okay, it wasn't a huge logical leap, given how she dressed and her general demeanour, but yes, Violet loved being the centre of attention. Almost too much. Her hardest challenge as a journalist was making sure not everything was about her.
But then he went on to talk more about what had happened, and suddenly she felt like she was back in her old mythology class. Ancients, someone who went out to look for other worlds, an all powerful being. If she didn't know better, she'd say it sounded familiar. She remembered learning about the Ancients, the Cetra, in school, but the all powerful being? That had been something else. When she had been little, there had been a lot of interest in Cetra Legends, especially in Shinra. She had written a book report on one of the recent ones published. One that talked about something else. Something they called the 'Calamity from the Sky'.
And then the Ancient race had died out.
Ancients. Extinction. An all powerful being from another world. It all felt so... connected. Like puzzle pieces that nearly fitted together, but not quite. She tried to piece it together, as the information slowly formed. And then she gave him a slightly shocked look.
"Wait. Your 'Star' was your planet? You mean, you decided to sacrifice half the population of the planet? Did they... not get a choice?" she asked, slightly horrified. That sounded horrific. She wondered if Shinra would have made that decision. If sacrificing half the population of Gaia would have stopped the meteor.
And then she thought back to her suspicions about everything she had seen, and decided it wasn't even a question. Of course they would.
"And... you created life? You were Ancients who created the monsters? You.... sound more like Gods," she remarked. This was NOT the interview with a street singer she had expected. Things were becoming massively confusing. And impossibly more vast. "So, one of you Ancients, went out to look for other worlds, and came back wanting just to destroy yours?" she asked. "A being that's basically a God.... And now, here we are, on another world..." Again, it felt like there had to be a connection. And yet, he called the summons gods. So they were Gods to the Gods, were they? That was even vaster.
And the world was split into... fourteen realities? "Fourteen realities? What.... What did that look like? Could you move between them? What were the differences?" she asked. What if THEY were part of those fourteen realities? What if they weren't on another planet? But in another reality? Ugh, it was times like this Violet wished she watched more science fiction. She was sure it'd make more sense if she had. Ugh. That's what she got for turning down that date with that nerdy guy her Daddy tried to set her up with.
"Wait. So .... all of you who sacrificed yourself to summon Zodiark..." She was thankful for the spelling or she'd never have pronounced that right. "When Zodiark died, you came back to life?" Then she paused, and shook her head. That wasn't even the most shocking part. "Wait. You're telling me there were these two Gods, one of which was so powerful he fractured your entire world into, like, fourteen dimensions or something, and somebody just went and KILLED them? Who the heck was powerful enough to do THAT!?" she asked. Because that sounded utterly insane. Who heard of someone fighting a GOD? That was just crazy. And if someone could do that, could they have caused the entire Zephron situation?
She paused, and then smiled a little as he tripped over his words. "Ohhh, forbidden love. We'll come back to THAT, because, writing about love is my jam, but right now, I've gotta get this whole world-ending-super-gods-killing-each-other-making-different-realities thing down," she said, scribbling furiously as she tried to make some kind of sense of it.

"Got a story for me?"
Wow, okay, this was not how Violet had seen this interview going. She had expected a puff piece about a street musician, some nice fluffy words about why he liked music, and if she got really lucky, a vague connection to add to her board of reasons people had come to Zephron. Once she had enough connections to start making a board. And someone to put a board up for her, because DIY was NOT her thing.
Instead, she had apparently met a guardian of the Lifestream who was somehow involved in summoning a monster that blew up a star or something?
Well, she supposed she had wanted a story...
"Ohhh, Lifestream! We had the Lifestream on our world!" she said with excitement at something she recognised, but the rest remained mostly a mystery to her. She also made sure to quickly make a note next to Emet-Selch that it was a title, and not a name. Right, got it. That was useful to know.
When he said he could see souls, she let out a slight giggle. "Ohhhh. Can you see my soul? What's it like? Is it pink? I bet it's pink," she said, standing up and giving a little twirl as if this would somehow show off her 'soul'. She had no idea what a soul looked like, but she imagined a big blob of glowing colour floating around her. Hopefully in pink. Violet really liked pink.
His talk of music was perfect for the sort of human interest puff piece she was planning to write, but the rest started to really interest her too. "So, you had this amazing musical gift, but it got swept aside because you were also born with this power? Definitely sounds like I could write something about that, if you're interested. The idea that you had this talent you wanted to work on, but something else natural you had made them force a different destiny on you. It'd be like if my Daddy had actually forced me to be a Shinra Executive like he wanted instead of a journalist like I wanted, but, he never got away with it," she smiled. Although the comparison was probably a bit flimsy at best, and even Violet realised that.
But that was when everything derailed for Violet. Wait, did he say his people were on the brink of destruction? And he began to talk about other things. Sacrificing himself. Summoning something. Destroying half of ... a star? She blinked for a moment, her brain switching from 'puff piece' to 'actual news', and she sat back down, looking at him intently, this time not even taking the time to be disgusted by the potentially dirty seat.
"Wait. Your world was nearly destroyed?" she asked. "That happened on my world too! My world was threatened by this giant meteor. But just before it hit, all kinds of crazy stuff started happening. Some huge storm kicked up and it was like the Lifestream itself was leaking out, and then... suddenly I was here," she said. She glanced away for a moment, thoughtful.
"What if the destruction of our worlds is what ties us to Zephron?" she asked, her tone a mixture of curiosity and excitement at this new theory. "Tell me everything! What happened to your world? What was threatening it? When you say you 'wiped out half the star' to summon this, whatever-it-was, do you mean, like, the sun? Did you kill half of your sun? Then shatter the other half? I have no idea what a Primer or an Icon or a Edwardolion is," she said, having already misremembered all the words. "...so I'm not sure they're connected, but could all the destruction be? Wait, if you sacrificed yourself how come you're still alive?" she asked.
And then she noted what else he said.
"Wait. Emet-Selch is here? In Zephron?" she asked. The ruler of the after-life on his world was on Zephron. And his world had nearly been destroyed too. It made Violet begin to wonder if the crazy conspiracy theories about Zephron being some kind of after-life were true. Definitely not Heaven though. No Heaven of Violet's wouldn't have a day spa.
"Sorry, I'm the one getting carried away now, but this could all be connected to what brought us here," she explained, excitement shining in her eyes.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet nodded and quickly scribbled down the correct spelling of the name. For all of her flaws, Violet was fast at short hand, and could scribble almost indecipherable notes that made perfect sense to her. Yes, she was perhaps a bit too prissy for some of the situations she found herself in, and yes, sometimes her lack of world experience left her confused about what was happening, but when it came to journalistic note taking? She was a pro!
"Got it, thanks," she nodded. And then he went on, and she started scribbling, but quickly had to stop, because she was not following what he was talking about at all. Maybe this would have been a job for the dictaphone. So, he was old, he said. Violet guessed he could be a bit older than he looked. He was probably, like, thirty or something. SUPER old. And he had only just started sharing his music. Okay, that was great, and opened an angle to ask about it. It was just... the rest that began to lose her a little.
"Okay, uh," she paused, trying to think of a good way to frame 'what are you talking about?' that wouldn't sound rude or unprofessional. "I'm not sure I understand. Do you mind if I recap?" she asked, hoping that she could get the details right, or at least know if she didn't. That seemed like the right thing to do. She made notes as she spoke, just so she had it in her head, quick, shorthand scribbles, transcribed from manicured fingers holding a dainty golden pen. "You were offered a job to work for someone named Emet-Selch, who in your world worked for the Government, who were called the Convocation. And that job was... watching over souls that flowed into the Underworld? Because you could see them, which is something most people on your world can't do? Watching them into, like, the afterlife?" she asked, hoping both her confusion and horror was kept to a minimum.
She supposed it wasn't THAT different from some of the theories about the Lifestream. They said that you could actually see that in person, although if you did, you risked serious Mako poisoning. Maybe it was similar on Hythlodaeus's world? Just, a little different. That tied into everything she had heard so far.
"That's... interesting, in a wild kind of way," she laughed politely, hoping that she was keeping things light. "Why don't you tell me about your music a little more? When did you first discover your musical talent? What made you want to share it now? Why did you keep it to yourself for so long?" she asked, suspecting the musical angle would go down much better than all the other stuff he had mentioned in an interview.
"Hey, if you gave up your job to your friend, what did you do before you were a singer?" she also asked. Another good piece of information for an article.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet gave a bright smile at his response, the same kind of bright sunny smile that had used to open teen news segments on Shinra TV. She knew how to look charming, after all, and she didn't even have to fake it. A fresh interview! This was perfect!
She glanced down at where he was sat, her smile only faltering for a second as she considered the dirt and how it wasn't exactly the type of luxurious seat she'd prefer. Still, the life of a journalist, huh? The things she did for a story. She settled down next to him, and pulled out her pen and paper. Her dictaphone still had a little charge in it, but she was saving it for an emergency. Who knew where you could get batteries in a place like Torensten?
"Well, we can start with how to spell Hythlodaeus, because, wow, that's a mouthful," she smiled, hoping her tone came across as playful as she intended and not insulting. And misspelling somebody's name in an article was something Violet refused to do. She was a professional, after all. "And then, why don't you tell me a little about yourself, to start off with?" she suggested, before offering him another smile. "I'll be honest with you; I'm writing articles about the people who've been thrown here from other worlds. Off-Worlders, I'm calling them. Well, us. I'm one of them. I'm hoping by writing about their lives, and experiences, I can show the world all the good they do, and help people understand and accept us," she said, still smiling politely as she delivered her pitch. "I think hearing about how an Off-Worlder is a singer entertaining the masses with brand new songs could be really interesting!" she added, hoping that this would win him over and get him talking.

"Got a story for me?"
Violet had to admit, her new plan of interviewing the others who had been stolen from their worlds so far was going well. On the surface, they were just human interest stories, which in of itself was fascinating, but Violet was still hoping that somewhere they would lead to that connection. The thing that united them all. And once she found that, she could break the biggest news story Zephron or any other world had ever seen.
But for now, she still had to do the basics. Which was fine. While it wasn't quite the planet shattering exclusive she longed for, they were interesting stories. And she was something of an expert of human interest fluff pieces. She could do this all day. If she never made the big connection she wanted, she was still telling interesting stories, and with any luck, helping humanise the people trapped on Zephron to the citizens at the same time.
She hadn't actually been planning to try and grab another interview, instead out for her afternoon shopping excursion and to see if any cute new outfits had come in (what? she liked looking her best!), when she caught the voice of a bard performing. She caught sight of the bard, with his striking purple hair, and it didn't take long to establish that he both was a talented performer, and definitely an off-worlder.
Which was why she waited until his song ended, before she approached. Naturally, Violet stood out from the crowd, in her short skirt and blazer and high heeled boots, with a silky scarf draped around her neck. Overdressed? Maybe, but she liked to look smart, and she thought it made her look like a fashionable, stylish, confident journalist. It would probably have been more effective if it wasn't a style clashing with the more medieval looks around her, but she didn't care. The air around her was heavily perfumed; she had always liked wearing a lot of scent, and even more now she was missing her luxurious spa bath back in her mansion in Midgar.
She approached the singer as he finished a song, and gave a little wave on a manicured hand. "Hi theeeere," she called out in her most professional, friendly tones. "Violet Vayne; Torensten Times.
