[attr="class","ayab-text"] The confines of Sonora had become stifling as her worry increased over time. Cloud had still not returned, and she was worried about what had happened to him. All she knew was what Alexander had told her, and she knew any fight with Sephiroth would end in some type of injury. When she managed to make it to Provo, then she was going to give her friend a piece of her mind! After making sure he was alright, of course. Sadly, her sense of direction had taken her a little off of the mark on her wayward journey. This was why Barrett had been the one to read the maps or even Cloud. Her sense of the world after leaving Midgar had been so limited and it was not like she had intimately known the layout of Gaia as her friends had. Oh, she knew she should have just spent the gil on an airship ticket! [break][break]
It would have been faster, but she had worried that perhaps Cloud would have been traveling back to Sonora. So, Aerith had thought that perhaps there would be a slim chance of encountering him on the road to the city. And now she regretted her 'brilliant' idea and was lost and staring down at her map with a look of complete betrayal. "I should have listened to my first idea," she lamented with a sigh as she shoved her map back into her bag. This area was known as the Pale Coast, and she could admit the scenery was worthwhile. And, well, it seemed she was not too far away from Provo. All she had to do was retrace her steps, right? [break][break]
And retrace her steps she did--until she literally found herself facing a ghost. A startled gasp escaped her as her hands flew upward to cover her mouth in surprise. It felt as if the entire world stood still and everything she had known had been upended in an instant. Oh. Oh. Was this how Cloud had felt when first coming across her? As if the past had come back to haunt her without warning or preamble and her mind began to fill with white noise for a moment. Aerith was not usually caught by surprise like this, and she could only stand there for several moments as she stared at her very own ghost. [break][break]
"Zack...?" His name came out as a nearly strangled syllable as her heart raced quite erratically against her chest. A part of her wished to run forward and hug him while another wished to pick up a nearby stick and throw it at him. How odd that she felt a strong surge of both incredible care and anger towards him. Five years without a single return letter--even though she know knew the truth as to why. It had not been his fault at all, but emotions were such unreasonable things.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] There was just so much jubilance and glee emanating from Jessie that Aerith was quite sure her cheeks would be hurting from constantly smiling by the end of this evening. Not that she did not smile often! But Aerith could not recall a recent time she had experienced this much fun with someone she had just met. "And all of the games there were to play! I wasn't able to stay longer and try them out, but I really wanted to try chocobo racing. It was so exciting from the one race I was able to watch!" Of course, her freedom had been riding on Cloud winning that race to free them from Coral Prison. But semantics, right? Right! Perhaps she would be able to find something like those races here! Start her own chocobo farm and raise them well? [break][break]
Aerith burst into a fit of giggles at the silly thought. Was it silly, though? She believed she could be happy with such a lifestyle for herself. Away from the city and its lights and somewhere small and cozy with a garden for herself and a stable full of chocobos! "Then it's a promise for a second date!" she replied with a playful wink. It did not seem this evening would turn into an everlasting love story for herself, but she was quite happy to meet Jessie and make a new friend. Dates like these did not often lead into that sort of fairytale ending, anyway! It was still a nice thought to think about, though. [break][break]
"Why not a bit of both? Maybe your experiences here are better than Gaia, so the food is just that much better! And, of course, you are in good company." Her lips curled into a faux-sauve grin before she felt herself begin to laugh once more. The food here was pretty good, though! But nothing would quite compare to the home-cooked meals she had grown up with as a child. And, before that, it had only been tasteless, nutrition-based meals Shinra had provided to her. Cold, clinical and impersonal as with everything else in her early childhood. Simple meals like these really were one of the best to indulge in. [break][break]
Eventually, she did finish her treat without managing to make a mess out of herself! Aerith tilted her head to the side as Jessie pointed out a nearby band beginning to set themselves up. It did not take her too long to figure out what her date had in mind. Grinning, she turned on her heel to bow gallantly to Jessie. "May I ask for the honor of this dance, fair maiden?" Holding her hand out, she grabbed Jessie's hand within her own before leading her towards the other dancing couples.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] "If you want something enough, then you owe it to yourself to reach for it. Be selfish, Vincent, and be happy." Her lips curled into a soft smile at his soft, doubting words. There was surely someone out there that would love her friend for all of his worth: the good and the bad. For all of the traumas he had endured and overcome and for all the good he would continue to do here because he wanted to better himself. Her green eyes were warm and vibrant as she ran an affectionate hand through his braided hair in an almost maternal fashion. There was still such a melancholy air to her friend that she hoped would ease completely away with more time. [break][break]
She closed her eyes as she allowed herself to soak in the comfort Vincent was offering to her. This was not something she indulged in often since she always tried to offer comfort to everyone else. Aerith disliked burdening her friends with her own worries and woes. Most of the time she had kept her true thoughts and feelings to herself--and it had been with a costly price. Her stubborn nature had lead to her future death, but she had made her choice knowing that it could happen. She had had no desire to burden her friends further when Cloud had needed help and praying for Holy was something she could have done, anyway. Would she still make the same choice? [break][break]
Most likely. If her death had meant her friends could live, then she would gladly make that choice twice over in a heartbeat. "That a nice way of saying I'm too stubborn for my own good," she teased with a soft laugh. A soft exhale escaped her as she nuzzled her cheek against his shoulder. Her eyes were half-lidded as she continued to allow herself this closeness to one of her dear friends. It was not as if she had lacked affection when she was younger, but she had always felt the urge to reach out and simply keep those dear to her close. Whether with a hug or simply pushing them about as she often did to Cloud. [break][break]
A snort of laughter escaped her at the mention of falling in love. Her love life had been complicated enough with Zack, and it still was complicated with her current feelings for someone else. "Hah! My love life is better left unsaid. I'd make a mess of those kinds of things, anyway. But I'm more than happy to make new friends! There are plenty of people here to meet." But she supposed she had waxed her poetics and her woes long enough, and Vincent had been kind enough to endure her whims. "I think I'll stay here for awhile so we can catch up more, Vincent. But, thank you, for your words and kindness. I'll definitely remember them and try my best, and so should you!"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith was more than content to stay within Tifa's arms for all of eternity as far as she was concerned. There was a comfort she found in her best friend's arms that words failed to convey. Had it truly been so long for both Cloud and Tifa? Time was such an odd thing to contemplate. What had been years for them had only been a short instance for her, and she could feel guilt over leaving them both like this. It was a situation that could be helped--no matter how much she wished she could change things. Sometimes, things just happened as they were meant to, and all that could be done was to enjoy the time that was given to them. [break][break]
Her green eyes settled onto Cloud as Tifa took a few moments to wipe away her tears and grasp at her emotions. She kept her arms around her friend even as that simple question was asked. A simple question with an unknown, complicated answer. Why were any of them here? How was any of this possible at all? Aerith wished she could think of some explanation for this phenomenon. If only she could commune with the lifestream, but this world did not have one. It was another stark reminder of how a part of her felt cold and isolated within this world. Would she ever grow accustomed to this feeling? For so many years of her life, she had taken to ignoring the voices of the lifestream but it had always been there. And now there was no comforting lull from it. An absence that would not go away any time soon. [break][break]
"I can't be sure. I was in the Forgotten City when I went to sleep, and then I woke up here," she answered with a slight frown on her lips. Her head tilted to the side as she took in the empty table in the corner before glancing around to take in the regulars. One refused to look at them, which she surmised was from Cloud glaring at him. But there were a few curious onlookers, so she took her chance of smiling at them all brightly with a slight edge to said smile. Most quickly glanced away while a few eyed her as if she were a little crazy. Just a little, though! [break][break]
"Yeah, that would be for the best. I'll save a seat for you right next to me, Tifa!" The edge around her smile disappeared when she looked back to Tifa. Shifting herself from the embrace, she kept one arm around her friend's waist before leading the way forward. Sitting down in the secluded corner, she tugged Tifa towards the seat beside her while simply keeping that arm around her. This almost reminded her of how they had spent time together back at the bar in Cosmo Canyon. The brief feeling of nostalgia brought another smile to her lips as she recalled somewhat happier memories. "So, what questions do you have? I'll try to answer them as best as I can, Tifa."

[attr="class","ayab-text"] An unladylike snort escaped her at his rather proud, rhetorical question. Aerith was quite pleased to see Vincent taking care of himself properly now, though. There were no more tattered cloaks of red nor tangled snarls in his hair. This world had truly allowed him to blossom, no? It was as clear as day to her that life had continued onward for him and she wished with all of her heart that he continued to walk forward on this path of his. Her friends all deserved the best life could give them and the happiness that went with such changes. "You're going to make every girl that sees you jealous. And with this flower crown, you look fit to be a princess~!" Her eyes were bright as she laughed merrily at her own, silly quip. [break][break]
But the laughter faded as a more contemplative expression settled upon her features. What was it like to be free? Aerith believed she had tasted freedom when she had met Cloud and had left the confines of Midgar. She had been able to see and witness so many parts of Gaia that she would never have been able to otherwise. No, Shinra would have kept her close and under their thumb until they had what they wanted from her. And even then, she had felt tied down by the heritage and bloodline of her mother. Aerith had only come to appreciate her unique ties to the planet when she had been able to learn more about herself at Cosmo Canyon. [break][break]
"You're free to do as you like, you know. Make new friends, travel the world, and maybe fall in love," she added with a soft smile. "Live your life the way you finally want to, Vincent. I'll be cheering for you the entire time, too!" Soon enough, she had finished plaiting his hair and weaving the daffodils through his ebony tresses. Aerith admired her handiwork with a proud smile as she clapped her hands together excitedly. "There! All finished and you look prettier for it!" [break][break]
Was she at peace? Aerith hummed to herself thoughtfully as she leaned forward to rest her forehead against Vincent's back. Perhaps she just enjoyed being close to her friend again, or she was in search of some comfort for herself. "I'd like to be. I believe I could be with some more time. I just find it hard to feel settled. I have Cloud and Tifa with me, which means so much. I know I might make things look easy, but sometimes I can be the biggest quitter. I ran away from a lot of things and pretended that everything was fine. I thought I'd finally gotten things right when we all journeyed together. And then...I woke up here and learned that I died. It's a lot to take in and I'm still trying to find a purpose for myself here, but I know I'll find one eventually. I just need to keep moving forward, right?"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] The playfulness of her demeanor softened considerably as Aerith took note of the series of emotions warring within Tifa's eyes and face. Shock, disbelief, and sadness she had only recently learned from Cloud. It had never been her intention to die, nor had it happened to her in the first place. All of it felt surreal to Aerith in a way, because the others had experienced a tragedy she had not. But that did not make their emotions or experiences any less real or important. The warmth of Tifa's hands was very real within her own, and so she squeezed them once more when she saw those tears well up in her friend's eyes. [break][break]
And soon she found herself embraced quite tightly as Tifa wept so openly into her shoulder. Aerith did not hesitate to hug her friend back just as tightly and fiercely. Her own eyes burned with tears as a soft laugh bubbled against her lips. A sound of reassurance as she began to run her hand through the thick tresses of Tifa's hair. "I'm here, I promise," she said softly, pressing a kiss against Tifa's temple. All she wished was for time to stand still so she could keep Tifa's familiar warmth and comfort against her. Aerith had not realized just how much she had missed her best friend after she had set off for the Forgotten City. [break][break]
She continued to run her hands through Tifa's hair as she allowed the other woman to cry. The young woman could recall what she had told Cloud in that dream she had sent to him. How she would come back when it was over and she supposed she had been able to. This was not how she had envisioned her meeting with her friends again, but the bittersweetness of this reunion did not mar the joy she still felt. "Everything's alright now. I'm real and I'm not going anywhere, Tifa." Hopefully, these reassurances would be enough for Cloud and Tifa that she had no intention of leaving again.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Tifa really would be so happy to see a familiar face again. Amusedly, she wondered how Cloud would react to Jessie's presence. Should she mention the blonde swordsman to her? Aerith was very sorely tempted to do so, but that was a conversation that could wait for another time. Her friend could only handle so many energetic women in one sitting after all. And Aerith knew she could be a handful at times for her friend to tag along with, and she was always happy when he went along with her silly ideas and whims for the most part. Now she had someone that would be more than happy to do so! Not that Cloud was unhappy to tag along with her, but he often sighed and stared at the sky as if asking what he had done to deserve such a fate. [break][break]
"You're an actress? Oh, that's so exciting! I remember when I went to the Gold Saucer, I was able to participate in one of the plays. I don't remember the name of it, but I was the damsel and one of my friends played the knight. It was one of those prize roles where a lucky couple got picked to play in it," she revealed with an amused grin. The memory was one that filled her with fond nostalgia and homesickness. Surely Zephon had something that resembled the Gold Saucer beyond just this event for the evening. It was definitely worth looking into when she felt the urge to travel a bit. "Sometimes when you find yourself in a time of peace, you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know the feeling. I spent a lot of this past year before coming here traveling across Gaia. There was always something to do or worry about, so it's really important to savor the quiet moments." [break][break]
Life was made up of moments: good and bad. Each moment was something to experience and learn from after all! Aerith wanted to enjoy the good moments in between the bad ones. "Traveling is a great way to clear your mind! You get to do all sorts of new things, meet new people, and make great memories. When you visit Sonora, you definitely have to let me know. I'll show you all the nice spots and this really nice cafe I go to. They have the best hot chocolate and cheesecake." She soon found herself bursting into a fit of giggles as Jessie's stomach began to rumble loudly. As wonderful as funnel cakes were, they were hardly filling or nutritious. [break][break]
Aerith nodded her head eager before looping her arm through Jessie's and promptly dragging the other woman with her to the nearby stall. The one Jessie had been eying quite eagerly! The scent of the meats and vegetables had her own mouth nearly watering. Hopefully, she would not make a mess of the dress she had bought before the evening was over. Between the both of them, Aerith was beginning to think they were going to eat the event out of all of their food!

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith did recall that Vincent had harbored a being known as Chaos. In her mind's eye, she could recall his transformation into the fearsome being when the situation had called for it. He had been more powerful than in his human form, but she had not feared him after that initial first reaction. A primordial being created from tainted lifestream? It had her wonder if the Cetra had ever come across Chaos in the distant past, but it was not something she was ever likely to truly know. "I'm glad that you feel more like the you from your past. It can't have been easy being separated from Chaos, but you seem to be doing well. I can only hope I adjust over time without feeling or hearing the lifestream." [break][break]
His words were a comfort and ones she would hold closely in her heart. Aerith needed to believe that Elmyra knew how much she had loved and appreciated all that the woman had done for her. Not many could easily adopt a girl they had met on the streets and love them so unconditionally. She truly hoped she could do the same if such a situation ever happened to her. But such thoughts could be mused over another time. Now was the time for mischief and braiding! Her emerald eyes glinted as she eagerly began to scour the stalls for daffodils to purchase and weave. Vincent had no choice but to accept his floral fate and allow her these silly whims! [break][break]
The grumbles and complaints were ignored with giggles and diabolical smiles as she nearly rubbed her hands together in sheer glee. Instead, she found herself with an armful of flowers as she lead him towards an empty bench to place her prizes upon. Humming happily, Aerith combed her fingers through the thick mass of ebony locks. Oh, it really was not fair that his hair was so luxurious! Did he even realize his hair was any girl's dream? Huffing to herself, Aerith deftly began to braid his hair once she had gotten the tangles out. "You don't realize how much a girl would kill for hair like yours, Vincent! Mine is pretty long, but yours is just so much softer and the color is so wonderful! If you're ever in need of a career, you could definitely be a model for shampoo and conditioner." [break][break]
Giggling to herself, she plaited his hair with practiced ease before she moved to the flowers to begin weaving a flower crown for him. Oh, if only Cloud would allow her to do this! But the man would only run the moment she mentioned flower crowns and braiding. "You're really happy here, right?" she asked softly. "We might not be able to see each other as often as we did back home, so I want to make sure you're really at peace here." He had said as much earlier, but perhaps she just wanted the reassurance for her own peace of mind.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Her lips curled into a smile as she felt herself become a little flustered from the compliment. It was not the first time someone had called her wise, but Aerith really did not think of herself as such. Perhaps it was just an innate thing from her heritage as a Cetra, or she had just experienced a lot during her relatively short life. Either could apply but she favored the latter more than anything. "Live in the present and worry about the past when you need to! That's what I think, anyway. There's just too much to enjoy in the here and now than to wallow in things that can't be changed then and there." [break][break]
The young woman was more than happy to split the funnel cake with her date. The powder quickly spread all over her fingers as she broke off a piece and stuffed it into her mouth without a care in the world. Her cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk as she chewed on the delicious treat thoroughly before sighing. A soft moan escaped her before she could help herself, which had her flushing just a little in embarrassment. "Well, we're adults now! We can have dessert for dinner without feeling guilty or being grounded for it!" Green eyes glittered with mischief and a hint of joy as she promptly shoved another piece into her mouth. [break][break]
Sugary powder soon covered her hands as Aerith resisted the urge to brush her fingers over her dress to rid herself of it. The fabric of her dress was so nice and she wished to avoid making too much of a mess. Of course, it could not be helped as some of the sugar descended onto the red satin, anyway. This could be dry cleaned later, right? If Jessie's mouth was covered with powder, then Aerith knew her own would be stained with it as well. Turning towards the vendor, she quickly grabbed some napkins from the stall before handing some over for Jessie to use at her convenience. [break][break]
"Oh, no, I've been living in Sonora with some of my friends. I was lucky to come across a few when I arrived here! Otherwise, I've been trying to start a business growing and selling flowers with a little success! I managed to grow them in Midgar, so I know I can do it here, too. Even without a lifestream on this world. What about you? How have you settled here?" The words felt like a rush as they left her mouth in quick succession as she grinned at Jessie.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The sound of laughter from Vincent Valentine from all people could be considered a novelty. It was not a sound she could recall hearing even if she did remember him smiling a handful of times. The sound was rich and deep and warmed her heart immensely. Yes, this was a sound she wished her friend would indulge in as much as he felt the need to. Aerith could see how much good Zephon had done for him, and she knew that she would rather see him happy here than return to Gaia with regrets and unfulfilled wishes. How could she be selfish and wish for anything else? "It makes me happy to hear you laugh. I'm so glad you're at peace here, Vincent. It suits you so well." [break][break]
No, she did not think anyone could feel the lifestream as she had been able to. It was a further reminder that she was the last of her kind and most likely her bloodline would end with her. Had it not in another time, anyway? The Planet would go on with or without the guidance of the Cetra. Life always found a way to continue on in some capacity after all. "You do?" she asked with a curious glint. There was still so much she did not know about Vincent's past, but she believed him when he said he could sympathize with her. Oh, she could remember when she had learned more about her people in Cosmo Canyon and how alone she had felt. In some ways, she still felt alone. [break][break]
"I know my mother knows how much I love her. All I can hope is that my feelings reach her somehow." Her smile was somewhat pained as she looked to Vincent, but Aerith never did enjoy lingering too much upon sadness. Happiness was a choice one could make and it was one she preferred to choose above most others. Soon enough her sadness melted away as her smile became more chipper with just a hint of mischievousness. Vincent's presence brightened her mood as well as the fact he had agreed to allow her to braid his hair. The ebony tresses were just so long and most women would be envious of such beautiful strands. How could they not? [break][break]
"Yellow daffodils. They symbolize new beginnings and even the beginnings of a new friendship. Of course, you've been my friend since we met, but why not the renewal of our friendship on Zephon? But more than one bloom, of course! Daffodils should always be placed together!" Her smile was bright as she suddenly stood and clapped her hands together. Now they needed to find a nearby stall that sold such flowers! Aerith could find another flower with a similar meaning, but she now had her heart set upon daffodils for Vincent if Zephon held such similar flowers.
