- IKAZUCHI: the Tempestas family heirloom and Rugiens’ primary weapon of choice. Passed down through the first born sons of the main house, its creation dates back to the days of the Warrior King. Rumours say that the sword was forged with fragments of a divine beast — creatures graced by the Astrals that hail from these same lands. While the rumour is true, the truth is that the katana is cursed. The pieces used to forge the blade left it possessed by its vengeful spirit. Only the strongest of wills can wield this weapon and weather the storm.
- MURAMASA: a compact blade and Rugiens’ secondary weapon, its sharp edge and lightweightedness works in tandem with Ikazuchi’s destructive affinity. The sword itself was forged for Rugiens at the behest of his late father and was gifted to him when he became of age. Its craftsmanship hearkens back to the lands in which the design hails from.
- SAFETY BIT: a protective charm Rugiens wears as a necklace, it was created by worshipers of the Warrior King. The special ability the accessory provides protection against the affliction Instant Death.
HEIGHT:: 191cm (6'3")
HAIR/EYES/SKIN:: White, blue, caucasian
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:: A large scar spanning the right of Rugiens' face and all the way down over the right side of his mouth.
A large portion of Rugiens' body is is also covered in scars.
II. PERSONA
Befitting both the calm and the storm, Rugiens is a laid-back and jovial individual that regularly indulges in menial delights, but can also be temperamental with matters such as people wasting his time or doing things he personally considers stupid. This goes twofold for his associates; while friendly and lax around those close to him— provided you can get past his intimidating appearance first, Rugiens is abrupt, sarcastic and even disrespectful to people he doesn’t like.
Despite conflicting interests, Rugiens adheres and upholds the code of honour as head of the Tempestas family. As a warrior, he respects a capable opponent, especially those who are loyal to their own ideals and will show disdain if they abandon it. After distancing himself from Insomnia and spending time amongst the rural folk and hunters, he’s learnt to appreciate things big and small; from mechanical ingenuity to a fine meal regardless of the quantity and quality. Nevertheless, he swore fealty to the lineage of Lucis and would return to the fold without a second thought if he were summoned.
Underlying the veneer of his duties as kingsglaive and head of his family, Rugiens enjoys an occasional splurge, whether it be material goods or more personal indulgences and is prone to get grouchy if that personal time gets interrupted. And to the surprise of others, Rugien appears unflappable during tumultuous weather, coming across as quiet during storms or heavy rains as if he lost himself within it all.

III. BACKGROUND
Rugiens was trained in tactics and numerous forms of martial arts well before his enrollment into the kingsglaive— as required by the first born sons of the Tempestas family. By the time he made it into the king’s servitude, Rugiens proved himself to be an exceptional warrior, capable of employing magic in tandem with both his swordsmanship and hand-to-hand capabilities, despite leaning towards his physical capabilities more than his magical skills. Nevertheless, he shows a great affinity for the school of thunder magic synonymous with his family, including Thunder, Thundara and Thundaga. Rugiens is even capable of evoking Electon, albeit sparingly. To compensate for this, he only knows the basics of Fire, Blizzard and Protect, paying further emphasis to his reliance on skills over magic.
As a Kingsglaive, he is capable of employing its other skills such as Warp. He also bears one of the Royal Sigils, protective relics of a former King of Lucis, namely the Warrior King’s sigil. Possessing this grants Rugiens the Untouchable skill, allowing him to provoke the opponent and evade their attacks— a perfect evasion allows him the window to perform a Vacuum Wave.
Despite his previous allusions to being self-sufficient, his time outside the walls of Insomnia humbled Rugiens into reevaluating it. To that end, he learned the fundamentals of mechanics, at least enough to repair basic problems with his motorbike and survivalism, such as setting up camp and basic cooking.

IV. HISTORY
[Note: The first paragraph is non-canon, just my own interpretation as well as filling in missing FFXV lore]
Righteousness, courage, benevolence and respect, honesty, honour, loyalty and self-control. These were the virtues held by the Inazuma clan, retainers to the Warrior King. Though not born in the crown city, when he was sought out, he, alongside the Inazuma clan, would travel to what would be Insomnia and ascend the throne. Despite his accolades, the Warrior King was perceived with intimidation, but with his beloved queen by his side, there would be a time of prosperity. Sadly, however, it crumbled when the queen would be killed by assailants. Lost in his grief and fueled with a vengeful rage, the Warrior King plunged the world into a global warring era. The assailants, as well as the ones guiding them, met their end. But so too did the king, as his ceaseless vendetta took its toll on both mind and body. In his death, the Inazuma clan buried their lord in the lands from whence he was born. When they returned, they returned under the new moniker of House Tempestas, honouring the edict of the Lucian family.
In the time of Regis Lucis Caelum, the Tempestas family still remained as a loyal retainer albeit its dwindling numbers. Rugiens, current head of the clan, rose through the ranks and became a Kingsglaive at the age of 22, three years after the Kingsglaive’s establishment. A strident person who always put the crown above comradery, Rugiens was often tasked by Captain Titus on missions outside the crown city. This was a mutual benefit for them both, as Rugiens only got along with a few of the Glaives and knew Titus valued his skill for more dangerous missions. That, and he had a tendency to rile up new initiates who over relied on the king’s magic.
12 years later, Rugiens’ appearance in Insomnia was scarce, only ever apparent when it came to the dealings of his family who were persistent that he sire a child to keep the house alive, since their numbers had dwindled greatly over the ages. If it wasn’t that, he would make the routine appearance at the Kingsglaive quarters, stating his reports and heading out on the next mission. His despondence stemmed with reports that King Regis would relinquish all Lucian territory to the Niflheim Empire and even marry the young prince Noctis off to princess Lunafraya of Tenebrae. But by the creed of the Tempestas house, he remained loyal to the crown, albeit a bit more… distant than most. On the eve of the 16th of May, however, when Rugiens was driving back to the bridge that stretched out to Insomnia, it was dense with congestion as he looked on in horror. Insomnia, crown city of the Lucian Empire, was being razed to the ground by the invading Niflheim forces.
The King was murdered, and the fate of his family remained in the air. All he could do, however, was ensure to safely get denizens of Insomnia and wounded infantrymen across the bridge, all the while warding off Niflheim assailants with his magically enchanted sword, Ikazuchi. Cutting a swath through the opposition, Rugiens saved who he could. As dawn rose, the Glaive snuck into the ruined city of Insomnia to ascertain the whereabouts of his family, or if they even made it out. The Tempestas estate was barren and in ruin. Rugiens was racked with near inconsolable grief. But fate had other plans, for he would receive a message from one of the younger members of the Tempestas House — a lot of the family managed to use a secret underground passage located in the Tempestas estate. The elation he felt was short lived… his family lived, but so many others didn’t.
A few days later, Rugiens would have a chance encounter with Cor Leonis. The two met with an exchange of steel, gauging where each other’s loyalties lied, since it was rumoured that the Niflheim takeover was so successful thanks to members of the Kingsglaive turning traitorous. Shortly after, the two men reconciled before the Marshall relayed to the Glaive that the line of Lucis wasn’t extinguished — Prince Noctis still lives. With that knowledge, Rugiens simply asked the Marshall one question, “What do you need me to do?”
Over the next couple of months, Rugiens would travel across the continents, helping out the hunters stomp out an ever growing number of beasts and daemons alike. In early July, while investigating the coast of the Allural Deep, the Glaive would be ambushed by a Niflheim Assault craft housing Magitek troopers and a MA-X Patria. Formidable though he may be, Rugiens was a mite overwhelmed by the firepower of his assailants. But on this day, the skies grew dim and a great presence roared from the distant nation of Accordo. In that moment, Rugiens could feel the strength of the King resonating within him once again. Needless to say, with his magic back, the Glaive made short work of his adversaries.
Information about Rugiens during the following months are spotty at best. In truth, when the world was plunged into darkness and Eos was infested with a rapid increase of Daemon activity, it is said that Rugiens fended off an attacking Ayakashi outside the Aracheole Stronghold— a rare and extremely dangerous daemon variant that had slain countless hunters. Although the caravan of civilians and provisions managed to flee, Rugiens fate that day forever remains a mystery. One thing was for certain… the thunder roared that night for one last time…
