Towering edifices authored with sculptured brick and masonry, flying behemoths born not from the fires of industry but magic and streets enriched with communal comradery. What a marvel! The memories of yore manoeuvred through the abyssal recesses of his mind and managed to project a modicum of glee across his weathered countenance. Naturally, the man in black stuck out like a sore thumb in that jet black raiment, but he careened through the city gates, savouring every footstep and passing glance at his surroundings.[break][break]
He knew better than to dwell on the scorned and ruinous path forced upon him, which is a feat in and of itself given the millennia of enduring it; two thousand years of anger, isolation and indignation would devour any lesser man. But Ardyn was more than that. Anger was his musical baton, isolation his theatre and indignation were the myriad instruments that played to his tune. Because unlike the menagerie of dregs, the chancellor learned patience… After all, the finale of his concerto needed to be accompanied by the crescendo of righteous vindication against those arrogant gods.[break][break]
In the meantime, he careened through the lower levels of Torensten, taking in the litany of various stores, banners and all the small oddities that were yet to be stamped out by the cold accuracy of technology. Embodying joviality, Ardyn, rather than ignoring the curious gaze of each passerby, welcomed them with courteous waves and greetings that varied between “Good day to you!” and “Hello there!” Bewildering some whilts beguiling others, the man in back truly seemed like a man without a care in the world. He didn’t, not yet, at least. There was still much to discover in this Zephon as he’s come to learn, amongst other things. Besides, Ardyn vowed to be on his best behaviour — no mischievousness.[break][break]
Before too long, his small venture through Torensten led him to the aptly named Legend Square, where heroes throughout the ages were enshrined in stone. Amongst them was the founding king of Torensten, Lord Hremit. Ambered hues stared intently at the memorialised figure, sizing it up as he spoke to himself. “A fine figure— no doubt they omit the less virtuous details to your ascension. But what would I know? I am a wayward soul with no claim to make, after all.”[break][break]
