There weren't many willing to brave the dangers of the Metaia Marshlands and even fever capable of it. While indeed the quickest route from Aljana to Torensten it was also one rife with natural hazards as well as unnatural ones. There are many ancient tales that speak of the majesty of Metaia in its past.
Scholars speak of the long lost Kingdom while others tell tales of the riches lost to time. Many try to claim these forgotten treasures for themselves and there are some who chase the glory of successfully traversing the long, overgrown roads of the ancient realm.
Deep in the Metaia Temple there was more than just the odd undead or ghastly ghoul. Through the twisting corridor of corpses and deep within the gheist filled gaols was a great treasure waiting to be recovered. somewhere in the basement of the innermost sanctum was a decorative Ampule of Holy Water. This artifact was requested by a certain collector who was not only willing to pay top gil, but introduce the treasure hunter to a difficult to reach associate with gil to spend. All one needed to do was rescue the necklace, once believed to be a centerpiece to the priest's rituals, from the clutches of its dour prison.
But why was it always zombies?
Zidane could handle Fangs. He didn't mind dealing with Frogs. But places crawling with undead always left him feeling out of sorts. It wasn't as if he was scared of ghosts, but the ghoulish misers were reluctant to part with their worldly possessions and could fight harder than a Chimera with a thorn in their paw.
He had been bonking skeletons and dodging ghouls for the past hour. The deeper he climbed into the temple the harder it became to believe the place hadn't already been cleared out by adventurers. He soon came upon a pitfall. He peered inside and noticed it went down at least another floor.
"May as well, It looks like it leads somewhere." As opposed to He nowhere he felt he was going.
Without a second thought the agile Genome leapt into the passage. With an echoing tap he landed in what appeared to be an abandoned antechamber. At the center of the chamber was an altar with a great statue proudly standing over an altar. On the podium was an old stone tablet and beside it the Ampule...
Dusty Skeletons lay scattered around the room. some wore moth-worn robes while others appeared to be wearing old leather armor and wielding weapons. That aside, nothing seemed to be moving. There weren't even any bats or rats to contend with so deep in the ruins.
"I think my luck just turned around." He grinned.
Since the part-time adventurer was wearing his cloak he decided to pull the hood over his head and collar over his nose to better protect from the dust that seemed to kick up whenever he moved. It also helped to hide his figure from view were there any curious corpses or meandering mice.
