It was already late in the afternoon, the point where the sun was highest in the sky, or so it normally was. The clouds had yet to disperse after a short rainstorm caught local residents off guard. Though the region was usually temperate and sunny, in a land so close to the sea they were bound to be affected by storms at such an altitude. While many had chosen to stay indoors during the sudden showers there were a few who enjoyed the cooling reprieve amidst such a hot and humid day. In the past Zidane never experienced such things unless he traveled down into the valleys especially to places close to Burmecia. Although he was used to such weather, that didn't mean he was out traipsing about.
The young man walked around draped in a dark cloak, despite the humidity. His hood was pulled over his head and his tail hiding beneath the confines of the fabric. He had been on Zephon for only a short while and was already quite aware of their feelings towards Outsiders. He had an easy enough time adopting their habits of speech and mannerisms. As an understudy it was quite easy to pick up their gestures by hanging out at the local taverns for a few hours. There was just one thing about himself he couldn't change, nor hide given the circumstances so he often had to wear his cloak to prevent unwanted gazes. Beastmen were too far, few and in between on this world so he stuck out like a ship on land.
Undern had set in. It would not be sunset for a while so there would still be daylight out to get things done. The rogue decided to go for a bit of a walk, but he wasn't the only one who decided that an after-shower stroll was relaxing...
There were many small farms that seemed to dot the outskirts of Torensten, though not to the extent of Porvo or Aljana. They were small fields that seemed to specialize in one crop or another, barricaded with small split rail fences that wouldn't keep out a fox, let alone a hungry chocobo. The youth stopped nearby, noticing some of the farm dogs chasing a gaggle of ducks. He settled down in a crouch, peeking through the fence line with a grin on his face. It was hard to ignore the critter's antics while nursing his hangover. It was relaxing and let him forget that he was in a strange place, far from home.
BUHWEEEEE
A gruff, bellowing sound rumbled in the distance. Zidane raised his head, tawny hair framing his face as he peered past the edge of his hood. "What was that?"
A few plots down the rain seems to have attracted a gigantic boar. The beast was as big as a juvenile Behemoth, with the temperament to boot. Its white, curling tusks spoke highly of its youth and a thick mane told of its health. After the rain it came snuffling around for truffles and found itself a patch of pumpkins, but the farmer was remiss to relinquish them -- shame. The Boar didn't take kindly to the refusal and was now rampaging.

The Truffle Shuffle
The scent of rain lingered in the air, a soothing balm that always calmed Cloud's restless spirit. It reminded him of days long past in Nibelheim, where he'd sit atop the old water tower, watching the world blur beneath the curtain of falling droplets. His mother would often scold him for coming home drenched, but those were moments he cherished. Fragments of a more simpler time now lost to the currents of fate.
Sheltering beneath a sprawling tree, Cloud found refuge from the rain. The canopy of leaves and intertwined branches above provided a patchwork shield, allowing only the occasional stray droplet to reach him. He leaned against the sturdy trunk, the rough bark pressing into his back. His eyelids had grown heavy, lulled by the rhythmic patter of rain and the distant sounds of the world around him. For a moment, it felt as though the weight of his past was lifted, just long enough to let him drift into a light, restless sleep.
Time slipped away unnoticed, the rain gradually easing into silence. When Cloud finally stirred, blinking groggily as the rain had passed, leaving the air thick with the earthy smell of damp soil and fresh greenery. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying to shake off the drowsiness when a sudden jarring sound shattered the tranquility — the angry sound of a boar and the frantic shouts of a nearby farmer.
Cloud snapped upright, immediately on high alert. The serene world he had fallen asleep in was now replaced by chaos. In the distance, a massive boar was tearing through a pumpkin patch, its tusks glinting under the faint light of the clearing skies. The beast had been enraged, destroying everything in its path as the farmer desperately tried to fend it off. Cloud knew all too well what would come next. In a heartbeat, Cloud was on his feet, dashing across the field with remarkable speed. His boots hit the now - softened earth as he closed the distance. The boar, sensing the farmer’s panic prepared to charge, but Cloud moved faster. Before the beast could barrel forward, Cloud leapt into action whilst drawing his sword with practiced precision.
With a swift deliberate strike, his blade sliced through one of the boar’s tusks, sending the severed ivory spinning across the ground. The boar reeled, its fury growing, but Cloud remained calm, positioning himself between the animal and the farmer.
"Get back inside." Cloud ordered, his voice firm but calm. The farmer, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and relief, scrambled to obey. As the man retreated, Cloud tightened his grip on the Buster Sword. Eyes narrowing at the still - raging boar.
The boar snorted angrily, pawing the ground as if readying for another charge. Cloud stood firm. The weight of his sword comforting in his hands.

Upon hearing the ravenous bellow of the denied boar ZIdane kicked off the ground and took off running. The young man made his way into the clearing where Cloud had sliced off a section of the sullen sow's tusk. It did not take kindly to the attack and stamped its hooves against the muddy ground. The farmer rushed back, not wanting to get between the warrior and the beast. Zidane noticed the chunk of ivory thrown aside. His tail flicked beneath his cloak, a thought coming to mind. He wouldn't mind collecting that bit of treasure, but it would have to come after/
The boar lowered its head, its btistleback strengthening its hide like steel. It wouldn't be as easy to cut through its skin as he had done with its tusk. The boar charged. Realizing the guy was in a dangerous pickle Zidane charged forward, unaware if the man knew how dangerous an angry boar was. Zidane has been at the sharp end of a Zahgnol's tusks before and if this beast's was anything like theirs it was going to be quite a doozy. Their horns could cut like any blade and their hooves stomp harder than an ornery Chocobo out for blood.
When Zidane drew close enough he jumped up mid way through his dash and piled a heavy kick into the beast's side. Unaware of the incoming volley the belligerent boar nearly toppled over, its charge cutting past Cloud without a single strike. The giant pig slammed into a nearby fenceline, trampling it to the ground before it crashed into a tree. Both the boar and tree toppled over. Zidane landed, the cloak elegantly fluttering down, covering his body from view. When he turned on his heel it would be revealed to Cloud that he was just a young man, perhaps close in age with him. He put his hand over his forehead and watched as the pig took the fall.
"That was close. Gotta be careful with beasts like that." Zidnae pulled back his hood, the sky clear or rain, though the clouds had yet to fully disperse.
Of course that wasn't the end of the ham. It wouldn't easily give up its prize of fresh truffle and pumpkins. It pushed back to its hooves and shook out the debris from its coat before turning around, trying to figure out what had hit it.

The Truffle Shuffle
Cloud braced himself, ready for the boar's charge as his hand remained steady on the hilt of his sword. The beast's hooves digging into the mud as its massive body barreled towards him with a ferocious momentum that spoke of imminent danger. Yet, before the confrontation could escalate further, a blur of motion caught his eye — an unexpected ally in the fray.
An agility that surprised him when Zidane darted into the clearing and executed a powerful kick. Cloud watched, momentarily taken aback as the boar was redirected mid - charge, its trajectory veering off towards a nearby tree.
The impact was substantial. The boar crashing against the tree with a force that sent both the animal and the tree down to the ground. Cloud remained where he was, his initial readiness to engage shifting to observance as Zidane landed with his cloak fluttering elegantly to cover his figure.
As Cloud assessed Zidane, noting the ease with which he had handled the situation, he felt a grudging respect. Here was someone who understood the peril of such creatures, perhaps even more than he had expected. The boar, stubborn and undeterred, struggled back to its feet shaking off debris and confusion. Clearly not yet ready to concede defeat.
Cloud shifted his stance slightly, preparing for the next move. "Impressive." he finally said, acknowledging Zidane's effective intervention. "Looks like it's not down for the count yet, though. Ready for another round?"
There was a slight nod towards Zidane, an unspoken agreement that they were now in this together!

The boar lowered its head, scraping its blade-like tusks against some store. The action was frightfully intimidating as with each pass sparks would fly from the friction. Once the curved fangs were sharpened the beast looked up towards the offending men. It let out a fierce snort, sharp, gold eyes glaring down the pair.
The Genome turned his head when Cloud spoke up. The rogue grinned and cocked his head. This guy seemed to know his stuff. It wasn't easy to overturn a charging beast that was big and brutish. If the thief hadn't struck at just the right spot and at the correct speed he wouldn't have been able to stutter the boar like he had. The beast swiveled its triangular ears and punched its forehoof against the ground. It looked between Cloud and Zidane, unsure of which of the males was the bigger threat.
Zidane hid his tail beneath his cloak, causing it to flutter in the soft winds. The hay-haired youth thrust his thumb against his chest as he pushed up to stand straight. He had been standing with his legs at shoulder width, in a crouched position so looked much shorter than he actually was. He was about Cloud's height and with a quick look at his bare arms, had a much more slender build.
"Well if that's enough to impress you, can't say this next trick'll be lacking." He'd grin.
Zidane was pretty taken by the young man's surprise. He decided to show off. Throwing back his cloak he would reveal his holster. The rogue wasn't packing a firearm, or any sort of gunblade, by the looks of the ornate scabbard. With a quick and agile flourish that rivaled any ninja, the rogue drew a pair of blades which he pulled up by the hilt into either hand. Once the blades were held tight in either palm he turned them to face back, a peculiar stance with twin blades. They shone with a magenta gleam, the light catching the sow's attention. Lowering her head she let out a bellow and charged.
The hog ripped through a garden plot, causing the farmer to shout out.
"My cabbages!"
But said cabbages were torn into coleslaw as the beast shred the leafy greens and rumbled towards the Genome.
"Watch out!" Zidane called before jumping to the side, the whipping head of the beast cleaving the air with audible slices.
Zidane was able to deflect the boar by throwing up his blade, sending the weapons into the air. The force he had thrown the knife up and forward clashed with the boar's fang, which forced the weapon further into the air. The rogue jumped back, holding his gloved hand up to catch his weapon as it fell. This time it was ready and the boar quickly slid to a stop, turning on its heels before it turned to face the warriors, her rump colliding with a nearby fence, tearing it down, to the dismay of the farmer. The boar thrust her head up, using its tusks like blades in order to slice in Cloud's direction. Zidane landed silently on his tiptoes before settling on the soles of his boots.
"P-please! Stop it! I'll reward you both if you can keep it from destroying anything else!" The desperate farmer hailed the warriors.
