II. PERSONA
Since childhood, he has always showed signs of instability, together with an unusually brilliant and strategical mind. Ever since he was (voluntarily) subjected to unstable Magitek experiments at the age of 15, effectively becoming the first experimental Magitek knight able to cast magic autonomously, Kefka has completely lost his mind. He has developed an obsession with dolls and mirrors, as well as a morbid attraction to destruction, which is his ultimate goal in any situation - he does not need any long-term objectives.
Sadistic and cruel, he does not care about anything and anyone other than himself: people are his main form of entertainment in the form of victims. His favourite sounds, in fact, are screams of pain. He enjoys inflicting it, without making distinctions of sex, gender, age or race in any way. Although he loves inflicting pain, he hates receiving it and the mere sight of his own blood sends him into a state of uncontrollable murderous fury.
He behaves like a child, ready to "throw a tantrum" (i.e. destroy everything) when his desires are not satisfied instantly. At the slightest provocation, he becomes furious and tries to destroy the source of his irritation. Furthermore, he is extremely narcissistic, violent and absolutely unpredictable precisely because of his madness. He often bursts into hysterical and disturbing laughter.

III. HISTORY
Kefka was born 35 years ago in an unknown location, soon abandoned by his parents, then found and raised by the Magitek Empire. While growing up, he'd show to have a brilliant but cruel and unstable mind. At the age of 15, he voluntarily submitted to a series of still-unstable Magitek experiments that gave him the power to use magic... but also robbed him of what little sanity he had, turning him into a mad and destructive jester.
He quickly became famous in the army for his utterly inhumane ways: he would not hesitate to murder women, the elderly, or children. His behavior alienated him from the rest of the army, who looked upon him with fear, but brought him closer to Emperor Gestahl, who assigned him increasingly important tasks. At a certain point, he was given custody of little Terra Branford, a half-Esper child with the gift of magic.
He chose to set the crown of hypnosis controlling her mind in such a way that if he ordered her not to breathe, she would stop doing it without a word or second thought. He toyed with her, growing her into the Empire's most powerful weapon - at times even ordering her to use her powers against the Empire's soldiers only to show everyone the extent of her powers, and his control over her.
After the girl disappeared in Narshe, Kefka searched far and wide for her, but she rebelled against him and managed to disappear with the help of Locke Cole. Thus did Kefka understand she did not have the crown anymore.
He looked for her in Figaro when he heard she had been seen there and, against the Emperor's orders, after King Edgar told him the girl had never been there, Kefka attempted to burn the whole fortress down.
Time passed, the Espers were freed from their world and, increasingly thirsty for power and destruction, Kefka overthrew the empire, killed Emperor Gestahl and took control of the Triad of Discord, effectively becoming the god of magic and ending the world as was known, reforming it to his liking.
Years later, Terra and the Returners went to face him - and at that point, Kefka had understood that for him life had absolutely no meaning: why create when everything would be destroyed and forgotten?
Kefka fought against them and, with his defeat, the last source of magic in the world was destroyed: it disappeared completely from the world, along with him. He thought that he would be gone for good, but opened his eyes on a new world instead. Given another chance at destroying everything on his path, he chose to ride the wave and see where it would take him, without even trying to go back: in the new world, he could not weave magic as swiftly as before, nor was he as powerful as a deity, but he could climb his way back to the top and, possibly, destroy the world all over again.
