The great and expansive harshness of the Reikinto Sands, indiscriminate like a great fire, punished those foolish enough to brace the flame with blithe preparation. But amidst the slopes of insurmountable grains of gold and orange stood a blip, one adorned in a midnight raiment foreign to this world. Such a brazen choice of attire befitted the man possessing it. He appeared to be neither bereft of hydration nor fatigue — he has faced harsher heats than this. Perhaps the only thing that might have left him was his sanity, for amidst the great and expansive harshness of the Reikinto Sands was a sound that echoed into the great beyond.
He was laughing.
Ardyn, the starscourge, blight of Eos, did not make it to the hereafter, for here he stood, reeling back with a hearty laugh. It was the first thing he did in this world beyond his. What followed was a mockery of the gods, well… his, at least. “Hahaha! Another charade, oh Bladekeeper? Another rushed decision wrought with fear? Was I so beyond your ken that you sought to whisk me away to another world? Bahamut, the mightiest and most pompous of gods... is no more than a gilded coward!” One usually refrains from speaking ill of deities, lest they be smited by some divine twist of irony. But Ardyn’s words held weight. If it were false, the Draconian would smite him in this instance and yet? … Silence.
The calm or perhaps lack of a response only invited another bout of laughter, shorter in duration but equally rife with twisted delight as the last. Once it subsided, Ardyn peered over with ambered hues to a site yonder the haze of the desert heat. Perhaps the scorching sun finally got to him and what lay beyond was merely a mirage. But Ardyn had all the time in this new world, so what’s a few extra moments in the eternity he has?
Fixing his hat in place, the once chancellor began moving through the sands, slowly making his way to the vicinity previously spotted. Oh, the many curiosities that spooled about in his mind. Just what did this world have in store for him? Were there gods here too? Just so many — the walk would do little to hamper that path of thoughts.

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Alex didn't like sand. It was coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it got everywhere. At least, that was how he felt about it growing up. Having long since learned the finer details of exceptional control, well, the whoops and hollers echoing throughout the dunes spoke for itself. Oh sure, Cassandra could make bigger explosions than he could, but the tricks he could manage were things she could only dream of. It'd been a while since he'd traveled like this. He'd come here into this general area looking for Ifrit. The whole thing with Shiva making him realize he didn't really know anything about this world's gods. Or much about this world in general. He figured he'd change that, do some soul searching, try and find a place in this world fitting for a destroyer. Ragnabawk refused to accompany him into this oven. Understandably so, given his black plumage, so that left alternate means of travel for him.
The sands shifted and sang beneath his feet, his own doing, as he used his aether to shift his patch forward at high speeds. Two waves crested in his wake. Using his aether to manipulate ahead, he was able to create waves for him to surf off of, get into the air, and catch himself in a patch and continue onward. He kept himself in a bubble of constantly circulating air, keeping him cooled. He was clearly having the time of his life, if his shouts were anything to go by. It was simple, it was fun, and it was something that helped him feel better. Richard and his bullshit wouldn't have him for the moment. He would have to wait. Nothing, nothing could stop the fun, not even the insane laughter he heard off in the distance. Though uh, that, that probably wasn't good. Especially if they were alone.
So he sand surfed in that direction, and came across what he presumed to be the source of that laughter. His brow furrowed. What kind of moron would cross the desert in heavy, jet black attire? He looked at himself briefly. Without proper air conditioning. That was important. He prepared a spell, one that would help. He kicked up his speed, racing towards the man. "Heads up! Alex shouted as the distance between the two rapidly closed. "I've got you!" It wouldn't hurt to take him to the nearest town or something. It'd be nothing on his aether reserves to do this with two people. Still, as Alex came closer, he opened his mouth, and vomited a wave of deep blue water towards the man of no consequence. Aqua Breath. A spell learned from Ultros. He had to tweak it slightly in this case, remove the poison, greatly reduce the force of the wave so as not to hurt the guy. All that. But heatstroke was obviously a problem, and this was a good way to alleviate that.
Of course, he likely hadn't noticed that he still had those waves of sand cresting behind him, of which the poor guy might also be caught in.

In hindsight, perhaps the piercing laugh of lunacy could drop a few decibels. No matter, Ardyn was bound to encounter someone soon enough — his mania just happened to exhaust the need of doing it himself. But it was the manner in which his saviour would arrive. With naught but the very nature itself carrying his jet-black raiment, blankets of sand part in waves against the speed that avails them. Admittedly, when someone dawns from beyond the blistering landscapes with such haste, the chancellor’s initial thought was conflict would undoubtedly ensue. He did after all just let out a rather sordid laugh, so had that hypothetical transpired, Ardyn only had himself to blame. What reprieve he felt when the other called out to him in a manner akin to extending an olive branch. Now’s not the time for adversity… not yet, at least.
His opinion of this rescue attempt soured somewhat when the other chundered forth a considerably large body of water. Lest they thought Ardyn would prefer to be mired by damp clothes in such a manner, then be blasted by sand, the man would seemingly eject himself from the would-be rescue, if you could call it that.
Ardyn’s right hand would extend and lift outwards. It was smooth yet succinct, as if it were something he’s choreographed to ad nauseum. Once it elevated to shoulder level, it twitched ever so faintly as a burst of crystalline shards danced forth, shimmering with hints of roseate colouring. But from that came a sword, intricate in detail and carrying with it a blade writhing in vermilion. The chancellor would ensure his posture wasn’t one of provocation — his demeanour remained ever laxed.
But what came after would betray the lofty and blithe exterior. As his ‘saviour’ continues reducing their proximity, Ardyn effortlessly lobs the sword from their immediate vicinity. For a simple throw, it hit a surprising altitude. But in that minute flicker when his sword reached the arc whereupon it would begin to fall, Ardyn and the black raiment that adorns him flickered out of sight. When Alex sped past where the chancellor once were, one only needed to look aloft to see that Ardyn emerged to grab his sword from its descent — he teleported to his weapon to avoid the unlikely and unfavourable alliance of water and sand. Once his footing returned to the sands, he’d wedge his sword atop the sand and calmly exclaim, “Perhaps one would be remiss to douse another in water before burying them in sand! But your valiant effort is commendable nonetheless!”

As he flew on by, Alex felt WILD and PURE and FOREVER FREE. Unfortunately, his generosity was not entirely reciprocated, even if the words were nice. Rather, he couldn't help but notice that the man disappeared in a manner relatively similar to Noctis. Maybe one of the Kingsglaive? Except it was red. To be fair, he wasn't entirely sure if people were allowed some design choices for that kind of thing. Or maybe it was just tuned to their aether? Considering Alex's tended to wax a sort of regal purple, that made sense to him. Alex slowed his pace as the sands continued to shift, and he spun around to face the man, continuing to move on a bit as he came to slow down, then pick up speed again as he began veering back towards the guy, circling around him once before coming to a stop.
Alex tilted his head. "Well yeah." He said, gesturing vaguely at the vagrant. "You're wearing all black in layers." He was out in the desert for something more like winter. "With the laughter, I thought you were going mad." Some water to cool him down. The sands beneath him shifted again, and he moved slightly to the left. "Honestly, do you need a ride or?" There would be brief bits of cool air coming from him here and there as it would become increasingly apparent that this dude was doubling as a godsdamned air conditioner in the desert.
He scratched his neck for a moment. Might as well address the elephant in the room. "Hey, you're Eosian, aren't you?" He questioned. "What in the world were you doing out here? Because now that I think about it, every single one of you I've met has worn all black. Why in the name of the Twelve are you out in a desert?" Noctis wore all black. Prompto wore all black. Iggy wore all black. Caius wore black and, well, mixed it with some blue, to be fair. If this man was indeed Eosian, then that meant that so far they were all running a perfect score. They really needed to mix up their colors. Even if his armor was black, his clothes were a variety of different colors.
It may not have been an important factor as to why his business was failing.

No sooner when the echoes of his world were brought up did the expressive Ardyn simmer to a sullied and near flat demeanour. So, it would appear his emergence here wasn’t original in relevance to exclusivity. Be that as it may, it didn’t rob him of elucidating the man, his tone of levity still carrying on despite his stiff countenance. “Ah, a black raiment would mean you have encountered others from the crown city of Insomnia— how unfortunate.” The notion of ebon garbs did tickle his curiosity, however, but that is for another time. More important (and relevant) questions were asked.
The mixture of blue and yellow, sky and sand, were taken in by the chancellor once he looked around to absorb what he might’ve neglected prior before answering, “As for my presence here? Careening through the desert is not a hobby, I assure you. All I can say is when I ‘arrived’, as it were, this is where I came to. The other details elude me, for now”
As sufficient an answer can get at this current time, the man in black returned his gaze upon the other, eyeing his attire in a passing glance before asking, “Now, permit me to pose a question to gain some bearing. Are you of this world, or shall I daringly assume that like myself, you hail from another?” The leaps and bounds of this conjecture ultimately unveils his intelligence, and to appear seemingly unflappable despite the information shared thus far meant even in these scorching sands, Ardyn kept a calm head. In truth, he internalised most of his thoughts and true emotions whilst externalising naught but mystery and enigma. One would presume to think such an event would be met with some extreme, good or bad, and yet he spared nothing short of a mild curiosity.
