II. PERSONA
Ardyn is who you would call an enigma wrapped inside a mystery. Many have tried to discern his often flippant and blasé intentions, to no avail. Why would Eos’ so-called ‘villain’ aid its saviour? From Galdin Quay, all the way to the Achaeans resting place. A peculiar line of instances when Ardyn was chancellor for the Niflheim Empire, the Lucis Kingdom’s greatest adversary. If you were to ask Ardyn what his job is? He’d most likely answer in a nonchalant tone, “The one who makes sure the wheel keeps turning.”
In truth, Ardyn was a man of unparalleled cunning, having guiled Emperor Aldercapt of Niflheim into an obsession with the Lucis Crystal that would drive the two factions into a chaotic conflict. With the nigh insurmountable knowledge Ardyn held, he required a position free from the spotlight — all the power and none of the responsibilities, if you will. That is why he remained the Chancellor. Though the gods deemed fate be written as they intended, Ardyn managed to flip the entire script so it would transpire how he wanted.
Beneath this façade was an angry and spiteful man. Having been betrayed by his brother, the love of his life, as well as being denied by the gods and forced into a role they saw fit to thrust upon him? And to endure 2000 years of suffering just to wait for the true king to end him? Damn the gods! What gods allow his tainted existence to roam freely and defile Eos? Pretenders. To that end, Ardyn saw it as such — Noctis was the shiny toy they were waiting on, so Ardyn saw fit to break the other toys before proving this new one wasn’t any different. Whatever chaos he orchestrated, he reveled in it.

III. HISTORY
2,000 years ago, in a time now expunged from the annals of history, there was a man ordained to become king. He was born Ardyn Lucis Caelum. He was gifted with the power to purge the starscourge from those ailed by it. It came at a cost; to remove it, he must harbour it unto his being. But the would-be king thought nothing of it, as he felt it was merely the role he must play to help his kingdom. However, he was beset by manipulation by his own kin. His brother, Somnus, coveted the throne and his betrothed, Aera, messenger to the gods, fueled the fire of usurpation. The ensuing conflict claimed her life, however, and the gods spurned Ardyn from his birthright. In that instance, Somnus killed his brother and ascended the throne as Lucian’s first king.
But the fate of Ardyn was not yet over, for the crystal had absorbed his soul, condemning it to the celestial realm where mortals cannot tread. Through this, he became immortal. Over a millennia he suffered the darkness until the Niflheim Empire found his body. They raised him from the shackles and helped him acclimate to this new reality.
He was despondent, however. Ardyn cared not for their ambitions, but they had an excellent bargaining chip, the frozen body of the Infernian, Ifrit. With his powers, he was able to corrupt the god with the starscourge. The infernians memories became his own. There, he learned a forbidden truth. Ardyn was destined to be king. His betrothed, Aera, who was sworn to secrecy, told Somnus, thus igniting the plans of usurpation. Racked with grief and tormented by these traitorous phantoms, Ardyn plunges into the starscourge and vows revenge against his brothers, gods be damned.
Now known as Ardyn Izunia, he rose through the ranks of the Niflheim Empire, eventually becoming chancellor to the Emperor himself. He bolstered their forces with the magitek soldiers and authored the dreadful ‘vanishing curse’ (anonymously, of course).
With influence at his beck and call, this self-proclaimed ‘man of no consequence’ oversaw the journey of the young Lucian prince, Noctis, offering a pittance of help here and there. His true motives became known during the skirmish with the Hydraean, Leviathan. Lunafreya, the latest of the Fleuret bloodline, messenger to the gods and the only thing in his way, would become collateral damage. Ardyn stabs Lunafreya, dealing a fatal blow in front of Prince Noctis before leaving him to the fate of Leviathan.
Throughout the remainder of Prince Noctis’ journey, he is accosted by hallucinations of Ardyn. Soon enough, however, he would know of Ardyn’s truth; he was born of the Caelum bloodline, rejected by the crystal and forced to play a pawn in the god’s games as their ‘villain’.
With the prince consumed by the crystal, Eos was consumed by eternal darkness over the years, courtesy of one chancellor and the starscourge. But the fated return of the true king came to pass, and the two would meet for one final battle. Just as it was foretold, the villain would lose to the hero… but the hero didn’t hate the villain. Prince, no… King Noctis wished Ardyn rest for all that he endured, fulfilling his role and ridding Eos of the starscourge and granting Ardyn a true death.

IV. AUTHOR
PLAYER ALIAS:: King
OTHER CHARACTERS:: Not yet
ROLE-PLAYING EXPERIENCE:: Close to 2 decades
HOW YOU FOUND US:: Megan the stallion (No but seriously Megan's a gem)
NOTES FOR CONSIDERATION::
ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE::
“You… wish to do what?” There was a surprise in the Emperor’s weathered words. Ardyn fell short of patience when it came to repeating himself, and yet he must. So he shall, with concise glee and elaboration. “To propose a diplomatic union between the young Prince Noctis of Lucis and Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae. The two have a history. It would be unwise to overlook a beneficial bargaining chip.” The chancellor offers a small curtsy before continuing. His words were threaded with honeyed delight. “I’m afraid our demand for territory alone will sour their disposition. With an arranged marriage, it will undoubtedly lull them into a false security.” Like cattle waiting for slaughter, the kingdom of Lucis will frolic over the latter demand. Self-preservation seems to be a common trait amongst the cowards of the crown city.
“And since such a brazen plan is of my authorship, I elect that I travel to Insomnia as your emissary, Your Excellency.” Ardyn offered an open hand gesture to his Emperor, awaiting their decision whilst showing devotion to his lord’s ambitions… foolish as they were. Iedolas’ expression was muddled betwixt obsession and lethargy. He could scarcely think beyond the common imbecile. Most of his responses consisted of domination and obsession over the crystal. But in Ardyn the Emperor could trust, such is the chancellor's machinations. “Then set forth to Insomnia, chancellor. You’re the only one that can ensure their compliance.”
The chancellor's hand retracts to his chest, offering Iedolas a bow of obedience and a humble response, “Your Excellency.” Yet underlying his wide-brimmed hat was a smirk, sinister in design. At last, his plans can slowly come together like stacked dominos. Only he can set things in motion, and Ardyn has had some millennia to ensure it falls into place.
