II. PERSONA
Having been raised both as crown prince of Kashuan and as a reliable figure for his younger brother to turn to, Scott is a man who feels a deep sense of responsibility for what happens around him, both things he can change and things he cannot - exacerbated by his role in fighting against the Palamecian Empire before his death as part of the Rebel Army, Scott can't help but feel uncertain in ceding his duties to those who live beyond him to see them through, no matter how capable they may be; to put it simply, Scott would presume to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, if nobody forced him to share it.
Aside from this, however, he is rather hot-blooded, with a fiery temper that, while not too quickly stoked, burns like hellfire upon being lit. He has quite the mouth on him, and a tendency to be snide, mostly towards those he doesn't like. He's prone to tossing insults freely and adopting an overall derisive demeanour when dealing with an enemy, to a point that might cause him to seem facetious. Grudges are held as close to his chest as his heart, even if he doesn't make a show out of it - you could say this somewhat aggressive mien developed from Scott feeling a need to defend his much meeker sibling, alongside a fierce protectiveness of the people he deems as his responsibility (i.e; most people he takes a liking to, though not from a lack of respect for their abilities) and a loyalty worthy of the highest regard.
In more casual situations, Scott is generally a reasonable and cool person, though it's not actual tranquility so much as just learned stoicism. He also has a tendency to joke, especially with those he's most comfortable with. Kindhearted, Scott is willing to extend help to even complete strangers, though not without a healthy amount of skepticism involved. Even so, Scott has a habit of jumping to conclusions, and while its not overly difficult to dissuade him of them with solid evidence, it can cause him to seem quite impulsive. He's also somewhat blasé, occasionally to his own detriment.

III. HISTORY
Firstborn son to the King and Queen of the Kingdom of Kashuan, Scott was raised with the fact that he would one day take the throne being made incredibly clear to him, even as a young child. Beloved for his precocity, earnestness and natural talent, in spite of his snark, Scott was a very quick learner, taking to the art of the sword with ease - and supplementing his ability with a hand in both Black and White magics, making him a certifiable jack-of-all trades.
To Scott, however, the defining feature of his childhood was not his royal upbringing, nor his education or pedigree; instead, the most delightful part of his life was his beloved younger brother, Gordon. In comparison to Scott, Gordon had always been quieter and less confident. It was this that made Scott protective of him, and even made the older boy ever more outgoing in the process. To someone who was set to inherit the kingdom, the duty of defending and properly raising his brother seemed natural to take up. In Gordon, Scott saw limitless potential - potential he knew that his brother would someday embrace should he find the courage. Courage Scott hoped to nurture wherever he could, although in the end, his habit of taking on Gordon's issues in his stead may have had an opposite effect.
Alongside his duties to his own kingdom, Scott was involved in political affairs beginning from his youth, the chief of which being Kashuan's diplomatic relationship with the Kingdom of Fynn. A sociable and friendly relationship between the kingdoms became an intrinsic, permanent link when Scott formed a close bond with Princess Hilda, enough so that Hilda's father even envisioned Scott as a possible marriage candidate for her - and true to the King's opinions, Scott did grow to love Hilda deeply.
However, not all good things can last; in fact, most of them don't. It wasn't very long after Scott's 24th birthday that tensions brewing between the isolated Palamecian Empire and the rest of the world came to a destructive conclusion - the Emperor of Palamecia, a mysterious man with unimaginable magical power, had unveiled a deep and monstrous desire to rule the entire world, and had summoned forth an inexhaustible flood of demons from the very depths of Hell to help him do so. Forming a rebellion with Fynn, Kashuan's forces grappled viciously with the Empire's armies, and yet, for every enemy that was killed, ten more rose in its place. A violent confrontation soon turned to a desperate plea for survival in Kashuan Keep, and Scott, with an immutable responsibility to not only his kingdom and people, but to Princess Hilda and his brother Gordon, alongside a strong bone to pick, defended the Keep to the last, buying Gordon time to flee unencumbered. Mortally wounded in his sacrificial last stand, Scott barely managed to flee to Gatrea after slaughtering the Imperial forces. Rendered bedridden, dying slowly under the care of a barkeep, the last moments Scott had before his death were punctuated by the arrival of a group of young rebel scouts. Hoping to assist, though he knew he was done for, Scott told them everything he knew, as well as gave them his ring - a precious piece of jewelry he had worn almost religiously. Insisting that his brother had the spirit to lead, if only he could realise it, Scott then asked the rebels to tell Hilda he loved her - though he quickly retracted the confession.
Saying that he needed to rest a while, Scott's eyes fluttered closed for the last time.
And yet, even death could not save him from the Emperor's machinations. Awakening once more when he had never expected to, Scott found himself in such a situation that he could only assume he had been dragged to Hell for the enemy deaths at his hands - after all, it was those same enemies that continued to surround him, and those same enemies he would continue to dispatch. At least, until his battle was crashed by Fynn's White Wizard, Minwu. Shocked to see eachother - and Minwu had mistaken Scott for his brother at first - they soon agreed they were in the afterlife, and agreed to travel together. Forcing their way through what they assumed to be the Jade Passage, entrance to Hell, a party of two became a party of four as they picked up more allies yet. Allies with one similarity between them all - their relationships with that one group of young rebels. Scott really didn't know them all that well in comparison, granted, but apparently his one conversation was sufficient. As they tumbled out of the passage, Scott and friends were met with Machanon, village of souls. Created by dead rebels in much the same circumstances as Scott was in, the group soon met with Cid, who challenged their assumptions - were they truly in Hell, of all places?
With a collective shrug, Scott and his allies then proceeded forward, to the Unknown Palace. Naturally, they assumed it to be Pandaemonium, palace of the Lord of Hell. Met by swarms of vicious enemies, they battled their way through the strange and twisted halls, before they ascended to the throneroom and were met with ... the Emperor. Though not the one they knew. Proclaiming himself to be the light half of the Emperor's soul, the Emperor of Arubboth - the palace they were in, palace of Heaven - begged for their forgiveness for his sins, saying that it was his role to repent for the deeds of his other half. Unconvinced, Scott shot him down... but for a moment, he doubted.
That was until the spirits of their still-living loved ones appeared, demanding they not fall for the Emperor's deceptions and continue the fight they started. For Scott, it was Gordon who shimmered into being before him. Resisting the urge to run forward after the lingering sparkles as the specters evaporated, Scott redoubled his denial, alongside the rest of his party - Minwu, Josef and Ricard - and dove for the Emperor with his sword at the ready, inscribed with the Wild Rose, symbol of the rebellion and symbol of his determination.
The Emperor was felled the second that Firion's party defeated his dark side in Hell. Drifting to the world below to watch the quiet celebrations of the rebellion, Scott could only stand in proud awe at how strong his little brother had grown, more confident than he had ever seen him. Softly whispering his wish for Gordon to take care of Hilda, Scott then turned to Minwu, compelled to ask - were those still living really up to the task ahead of them? Having no option but to put his faith in Minwu's reassurance, Scott faded away.

ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE::
Scott rose one eyebrow, shooting Minwu a disbelieving look. "You want us to stay here ... and do nothing but attack the same hordes of foes, over and over again?" When Minwu nodded, the swordsman had to hold back from chuckling in incredulity. He was sure the White Wizard could see it in his eyes regardless. They had been lingering in the grotesque innards of the Jade Passage too long for Scott to tell, beating down the endless swarms of beasts that came their way in a haze of bloodied monotony - while he knew it was strengthening him, impatience nipped at his heels like a feral hound.
"I understand we are in Hell, but do you really think we can waste our time so much?" Not that there was anything else to do except move forward, which was what the intention was, at least in Scott's head. Minwu seemed to be of a different mind entirely, for they had not moved from their position in ... a while. Too long, for certain. "If there's something waiting for us, even the Devil himself, we should be quick about this. You can't deny that it's strange for someone like you to be cast into the pits." Minwu was someone who healed the sick, comforted the dying. Scott, on the other hand, had spilled enough Imperial blood to paint Castle Palamecia bright red.
"Should the Lord of Hell be waiting to greet us, we will want to face him at our very best," Minwu refuted him calmly. "Our equipment alone is insufficient to go much farther - our abilities, likely not greater." Scott grimaced; he should be insulted that the wizard had such little faith in the both of them. Even if they weren't strong enough, they weren't particularly alive - doubtful they could die twice, so why whittle away time that might be more precious than it seemed doing practically nothing?
And yet, his reasoning was still sound, from an objective point of view. "I see why His Majesty kept you as an advisor," Scott said begrudgingly, placing a hand on his hip. "But what worse could happen to us than we've already dealt with?" Still, he was stubborn - he couldn't acquiesce so easily.
"If we are truly dead, Scott," Minwu replied grimly, "we have all the time in the world to find out."
