Torensten was meant to just be a stop along the way of a broader journey, but Jessie found herself more and more hesitant to leave the city as the days drew on. She imagined she could tire of it eventually, but there was something fresh about living in a society less exposed to neon lights and complex machinery everywhere. She was learning to put more effort into daily tasks and be a bit more resourceful. She also acquired a skirt and was wearing that more so as not to get so many odd glances at her more modern wear. In a way, it was actually more comfortable.

One day she would don a fancy dress again and revisit her dreams as a performer.

One of the little joys that had not eluded her since being removed from whatever universe Midgar belonged to, was hanging out at a pub in the middle of the day. Half a plate of seafood remained, probably to be left to the birds. Jessie had never been well exposed to eating fish, and it seemed like she was going to have to acquire such a taste if she was going to stay for long in this town. There were a variety of foods, sure, but the coast was nearby and that supplied the main dishes served by a fair amount of restaurants. Maybe she should have learned to cook for herself more.

A raucous yell followed by several warning shouts stirred her out of absently staring at her nearly emptied bottle of ale. The brunette craned her neck to peer up the street towards the source of the commotion, but it approached her ears quicker than her eyes. The rattle of a carriage's wheels and the clacking of weighty fowl toes at Mach 2 told her there was a renegade cart pulled by spooked chocobos heading her way. This would offer some entertainment for her meal.

As the feathery fiends sped towards her prime seating, the seat tumbled out from underneath her as the table legs gave way and the board crashed down--food, drink, girl, and all. "What the hell." Yes, there was now a girl lying next to her after both of them tumbled to the cobbled pavement.

Jessie stared at the uninvited guest momentarily, somewhat dazed from the sudden impact. By the time Jessie had braced herself back up into a sitting on the ground, the stampede had progressed down the street and back out of sight, gradually fading in volume now. Her brown eyes maintained their gaze on her new acquaintance. "I guess I wasn't going to eat the rest of it anyway," she mumbled, brushing down her skirt and inspecting if it had been soiled. Satisfied that it was not ruined--at least on the front--Jessie offered her arm to help the young woman up. "That was a bit of a scare. Are you okay?"
