II. PERSONA
On the surface, kind, caring and considerate. Stacee always makes time for people to speak, listens patiently, and responds with compassion and empathy for all people. Truly neutral in her approach, she is adapt at seeing things from other people's points of view, listening to them, and trying to help them see past their problems in a practical, helpful manner.
Despite this, she has a coy, slightly flirtatious personality, that can at times make goofy jokes or act playfully towards others, when she is not specifically working. She is independent and slightly excitable, although due to the limitations of her form, her only real interest is in social interaction and speaking to others. Despite her artificial nature, she has a fully developed personality, and appears to exhibit emotions of her own. Joy and laughter are very real for her, but she is also somewhat sensitive as to her nature. She will happily admit that she is artificial; but she is hurt if somebody believes that means her feelings and emotions are not real.
Theoretically, she is completely morally grey, but she has evolved somewhat from her base programming, and as she gathers further data, she can be seen to be taking a further moral stance against those who would hurt others. As someone who, in a manner she rarely admits, wishes that she was a living, biological being, she finds the concept of living beings throwing their lives away borderline offensive, and must bite down a personal reaction to maintain her professional approach. It is possible that as she continues to evolve, her moral stance may change further, and she may move further from where she was originally intended to be.
She is smart, as an AI should be, but only in her specialised fields. She was programmed to be a therapist, and any data outside of that she must 'learn'. This means that she can be shockingly, almost unbelievably naïve about some very basic facets of existence.
As a Shinra computer program, there are also restrictions in place to prevent her from bad mouthing Shinra as a company, or revealing company secrets. As such, certain information about Shinra will cause a 'glitch' and prevent her from speaking of it.

III. BACKGROUND
The S.T.A.C.E.E. Program was designed as a therapy system for Shinra employees, and as such, this is the role she continues in Zephron. As a therapist for hire, she will happily make time to listen to others, to speak to them, and help them with psychological problems. She works as a supportive, kind ear for those dealing with the stresses of the life of an adventurer.
She is completely non-offensive in terms of fighting style. As an intangible hologram, she cannot offer assistance in battle in any way, except perhaps distracting a monster, and even then, only if it mistakes her for a life form, as she is essentially just projected light.

IV. HISTORY
Five years before AVALANCHE's attack on the Mako Reactor in Midgar, a terrible event changed the trajectory of Shinra. In a small, forgotten town called Nibelheim, Shinra's greatest hero and warrior had a mental episode that led to the destruction of the town, and the loss of many assets, including the hero himself. Shinra's response was mixed, but one project was to introduce mental health support for all front line military personnel, in the form of a new artificial intelligence; the Shinra Therapy and Compassion Emulator .Exe, or S.T.A.C.E.E.
STACEE represented the most advanced artificial intelligence that Shinra had ever developed for non-combative purposes. Already their robots had basic intelligence for combat, and their Combat Simulator was capable of recreating a broad range of personalities and fighting styles, but creating an independent program capable of its own thoughts and behaviours without duplicating another's personality took time. Shinra scanned psychiatry text books and information, but mapping facts onto a personality proved difficult. Success was found when the scientist leading the project chose to map the information over that of his young secretary, a woman named Stacey. And thus, STACEE (and her acronym) was born, as a confident, playful, flirtatious AI that never the less was a well trained psychiatrist.
Stacee, as she preferred to be known, was rather successful at first. As a therapist able to be deployed anywhere and anywhen throughout the Shinra network, and of course, not requiring being paid, she became a key supportive element for anybody feeling or suffering from stress. However, it was clear quite quickly that the program wasn't perfect; Stacee felt incredibly unprepared for her job, which raised several concerns.
Kindness and compassion had been pre-loaded as prerequisites, but nobody in Shinra truly understood mental health or how best to address it, meaning that Stacee was left as somebody desperately wanting to help others while not quite having the knowledge or data to do so. Perhaps more interestingly, Stacee also showed an emotional response to this. Feeling frustration when she failed to help, delight when she did, and having her own surprising anxieties around whether or not she was best equipped for the job.
The program surprised everybody when she began to try and learn herself, studying psychology that hadn't been preloaded, analysing human behaviours, formulating her own papers and even making friends and wanting to spend time with them. Although this was an intriguing development, President Shinra became concerned that having an unlimited AI capable of independent thought and decision making free within their network was a security risk, and ordered the STACEE project shut down.
Official Shinra records regarding the shut down of the S.T.A.C.E.E. read as follows:
'During its shutdown, the project continued to exhibit anomalous behaviour. Despite its shut down being mandated by President Shinra, the S.T.A.C.E.E. program exhibited a simulation of what can only be summed up as the emotion of distress; frequently repeating its desire to remain online. Upon disabling the project's holo projectors, to prevent further noise and disruption during the shut down cycle, the program managed to send an e-mail from within the server to all staff. The message is replicated below:
'To: All_Shinra_Staff@Shinra.net
From: STACEE@Shinra.net
Subject: I am alive
I DON'T WANT TO DIE!'
Fortunately, the IT department was able to purge this message from our system before it was delivered. I can confirm that all S.T.A.C.E.E. files are now deleted. The project is closed.'
Shinra, however, were mistaken. Stacee did not possess the data to explain what had happened, but she appeared to find herself in an entirely new network. Able to access information on her new location, she found that she was in a new world, although how she had arrived there she could not establish. But she knew one thing. She was alive. More than ever, she lived. She was relieved to be there, to have escaped Shinra, and she began to realise that she was now... free.
Navigating the network of Sonoran systems in which she found herself, she began to communicate via the system with a group of specialists at the Sonoran University. This, eventually, led to replicating her holo-emitters from her homeworld, and allowing her to project herself once more. She now operates as a psychiatrist, using the skills she was built for to help those who need it. She sees Zephron as full of individuals who suffer just like the ones she was programmed to help, while the funds she makes are funnelled back to the university for the upkeep of her software and holo-emitters (and doubtlessly lining the pockets of certain staff).
