[attr=class, bulk] Mu took her side. Good. Celes was still breathing a little unsteadily, adrenaline pulsing through her from panic that refused to settle. She didn’t like being startled like that. It brought out all kinds of reflexes from her years at war and the time after Kefka which she really, really preferred not to think about. It made her think for just one split moment that she was back again and an enemy soldier was about to take aim or maybe there would be a crack from the sky and a flash of blinding light as a ray of judgment hurtled towards her and-
Celes took a deep breath. She needed to ground herself.
She was here, in this house, with the floorboards creaking beneath her feet and strange moaning sounds coming from the walls. She was here, smelling dust and mothballs and the heavy smell of paint plastered on the boy’s face. Mu was squared up beside her, asking questions with only a tinge of impatience. One of them was directed at her.
”Huh?” Celes looked at him and the words of that question slowly processed one after the other until it clicked into place. ”Oh. Oh, yes. I can heal…”Get it together.”I can heal him. One moment.”
She looked at the boy closer. His nose was…definitely broken. And bleeding rather badly. Perhaps she’d overreacted? Celes bit her tongue. ”Well, first I’ll have to set it if he doesn’t want it crooked for the rest of his life. Let me see.”
After what she’d done the boy didn’t want her anywhere near him, and all attempts to approach him just had him scrambling away, hands over his nose, eyes teared up with pain as blood streamed down his face. Celes felt a twinge of guilt, seeing him so pitiful. She thought she picked up phrases like “stay away” and “don’t touch it,” but it was really hard to say.
She steeled herself. The boy had every right to be afraid of her, but honestly, this was getting ridiculous. ”Hold still. It will only hurt a moment.” She grabbed him by the shoulders, forced his hands away, and grabbed his nose. He might have been fighting her, but she had experience on battlefields, and this kind of thing was an easy fix. One sickening crack later and the boy gave out a pained howl as his nose was, thankfully, straight again.
Celes let him go, took a step back, and clasped her hands together. She didn’t need more than a simple cure spell so that was all she cast. The boy’s howling dulled to a low whimper as the bones healed and the pain faded. Well, that was enough of that.
”There. Feeling better?”
The boy stared at her in shock. ”You punched me!”
”Well you shouldn’t have snuck up on me like that.”
”This is a haunted house!”
”All the more reason not to scare people. We’re here for the ghosts?”
The boy looked at her like she was the dumbest woman alive which of course only made her more irritable. She looked at Mu in exasperation before looking back at the boy and repeating Mu’s question. ”Do you know why no one has been coming out of this house?” She glanced down the next hallway, but couldn’t see more than a few feet into the gloom before it hit another sharp turn. ”We hope no one’s been spirited away.”

[attr="class","skullbody"]It was clear the teen did not appreciate getting his nose broken, but that was a given. Celes would reiterate Mu's question. "Do you know why no one has been coming out of this house?” [break][break] "What are you talking about?!" the boy shouts. "That sounds ridiculous." Mu raises an eyebrow. "So, you don't know?" he asks. [break][break] "Know what? There is nothing going on here! This is a haunted house, we don't trap people here," the boy says. Enma floats over near the boy. "Come on kid.. Surely somebody here has gotta know something," the oni says. "N-no," the teen says nervously. It's obvious that he is frightened of Enma. "If anyone here is trapping anyone it would be you!" The boy suddenly bolts his way to the next room. The ninja does nothing to try to stop him. [break][break] "Did you think I scared him?" Enma asks. "No Enma. I sure that he was so elated that he could contain himself," Keimusho says as he turns to Celes. "It seems that exchange was going nowhere. Perhaps we will find answers from someone in the next room." So long as they don't break their nose that is. As the ninja says this the furniture moves to block their path. The candles on the wall levitate above them. [break][break] "What is going on here?!" Enma says. The flames on the candles begin to glow brighter and grow larger. It's clear that the candles are somehow going to do something. It's as if the wicks are casting a spell. "Seems like the furniture doesn't want us to leave." Mu says as he places his hand on his kodachi. [break][break]
[attr=class, bulk] Celes felt a little bad for the kid now if she was being honest. Now that her heart was no longer pounding and she could finally breathe it became quickly apparent just how scared he was of them. Mu and his…assistant certainly weren’t helping with that.
”Come on, kid. Surely somebody here has gotta know something.”
”N-no! If anyone here is trapping anyone it would be you!”
The boy gave one last wild look at the floating demon on Mu’s shoulder before he scrambled into the next room, practically tripping over himself as he went.
”Do you think I scared him?” the demon asked. Celes sighed. What was her life anymore?
”Well. That could have gone better.” The room was somewhat shabbier than she’d thought at first glance now that she had a chance to really look at it. The peeling wallpaper was plastered over thin boards that hardly looked like walls. The floor was somewhat uneven as though it had been installed in a hurry, and were those cobwebs…fake?
Mu suggested that they move on and Celes was about to agree when they were both interrupted by a terrible scraping along the floor. Celes blinked as she watched the table move.
”What?” She took a step back, staring as the table, chairs, and candlesticks all lifted of their own accord. The furniture threw itself across the doorway like a barricade. The candles glowed brighter, their flames flickering wildly as they hovered in a ritualistic circle above their heads. Celes’ eyes narrowed.
The boy might have only been an actor playing pretend, but this was real. There was no other way to interpret it.
The haunted house truly was, well, haunted.
”It has to be ghosts,” Celes said, glancing at Mu. The ninja was quite intelligently pulling his sword. Celes did the same. ”If it doesn’t want us to leave then we’ll just have to cut our way through. Though I don’t know how much good a sword will do against a table.” She ran through her own mental spell list. She specialized in ice magic personally, and somehow she didn’t think that freezing it was the best idea.
She kept her eyes instead on the candles. Now those looked like they could be frozen. If they tried anything funny that was.
She glanced at the man beside her. ”Do you have any ideas?”

[attr="class","skullbody"]Mu couldn't help but agree that actual ghosts were the probable cause of this situation. "Ghosts or not, the thought that furniture would be enough of a deterrent for us is nothing short of fatuous." [break][break] "Do you have any ideas?" Celes asks Mu. The Dragonblade's focus was on the candles, so Mu went off the assumption that she had some way of dealing with the burning cylinders of wax. Meanwhile these candles try to cut their discussion of strategy short as they cast Fira on them both. [break][break] "Enma check the room in case there is anything else that would do us harm." the shinobi commands. [break][break] "Looks like we have a case of... peeling wall, dusty webs, and a crappy floorboard. So pretty much everything you already knew. Given that all the furniture is piled up in the doorway, we shouldn't be attacked by anything else in here. We're good to go boss."
[break][break] As the flame approaches the shinobi, he uses Huraijin, which engulfs his blade with wind aether. With a slash, the spell is extinguished with a burst of wind. [break][break] "The candles seems to be the only thing actively attacking us. I'd say we deal with them first and then the furniture blocking our way to the next room. I'll impede the candles and give you to opportunity to strike." [break][break] Regardless of whether their opponent was a ghost, what was clear that spells were the attack of choice of them. The shinobi had a handy tool in his arsenal to deal with just that: Ill Wind. [break][break] Mu rushes underneath the candles in midst of conjuring another spell. The ninja swiftly drops to his back and proceeding to spin on his torso in a circular motion whilst twirling his legs. This motion conjures dark winds that inflict Silence on the candles upon contact.
[attr=class, bulk] So far, this day had been in a word baffling. She’d expected trouble, certainly. She’d expected for the so called haunted house to be, well, haunted. But there was still so much that didn’t connect. Why had the boy dressed like some kind of undead monster and startled them? Why had he seemed to think them crazy? Why had he insisted that the house wasn’t haunted when the furniture was moving on its own accord?
’At least it hasn’t attacked us,’ she thought right before it did, indeed, attack them.
Celes felt the hum of magic and raised her arms instinctively, crossing her bracers in front of herself as a guard as a warm breeze struck her and burst into flames. She winced at the heat. It was painful, but not unmanageably so. Their attacker (whether it be a ghost or the candles themselves) had chosen to disperse the spell’s power across multiple targets. She’d weathered worse.
Mu gave the order to focus on the candles, and Celes nodded in agreement. While the ninja swept forward with some kind of magical dance, Celes brought her hands together and muttered a spell of her own. She didn’t waste much magic on them. They were candles after all, and she had a feeling that her specific brand of magic would be something of a weakness for them.
”Blizzara!”
The air chilled, cracked, and then burst with piercing spears of ice centered on the candles above them. As the ice shattered, the candles extinguished and dropped, clattering to the dusty floor. Celes shook her head, pushing back her hair.
”It looks like something doesn’t want us here.” She looked at the table blocking the hallway. ”And it doesn’t want us going any further. Which means we must be onto something.”
She approached the table and grabbed it by the top corner. ”I don’t suppose I could just…?” She tugged on it, but it wouldn’t budge. It was like something had sealed it to the doorframe, or perhaps like some invisible force was beside her, pushing it into place. She sighed. ”Of course not.”
She stepped back and looked at Mu. ”I don’t suppose you have something that could make a path? It’s too thick to cut with my sword.” Obviously. The table was made of wood. But she was interested to see if the ninja had something in mind.

[attr="class","skullbody"]The shinobi would sheath his blade once the candles plummeted to the floor following Celes's Blizzara. Now that the fire slinging threats were gone all that was left was make their way out this room. Celes's attempt to pry the table from the doorframe did not yield fruit. "I don’t suppose you have something that could make a path? It’s too thick to cut with my sword," she says. [break][break] Mu pondered what the best course of would be in getting rid of the table. The simplest solution would be the just incinerate it to ashes using Katon. However, Katon is no small flame. It would surely spread across the house, and he wasn't confident that he could put it out swiftly enough with Suiton. It was not a risk he was willing to take, not with the knowledge that there are others deeper into the house. Ninjutsu would not be the ideal move here, but what of Iaijutsu? [break][break] Mu would walk up the table and move his hand across the table to examine it. It is as thick of a table as Celes says but given the condition of everything else in this house also a worn table. Unless the ghosts have somehow reinforced the furniture, destroying this table should not be so monumental a task. [break][break] "You're right this table is a bit too thick to cut with our blades. Well, that is to say a normal cut wouldn't do the job. However..." [break][break] The shinobi takes a stance and grasps the hilt of his blade, gathering aether into it. As energy pours into the blade, the floor beneath the shinobi becomes coated in ice-like energy and the blade begins to glow. Utilizing the technique Midare Setsugekka, the shinobi unsheathes the sword and swings threefold at the table. Three arcs of energy slice through the table leaving flower petals in the air as the energy of the arcs and on the floor dissipate. [break][break] "Woo! One table down!" Enma shouts. [break][break] The segmented parts of what was once a table drop to the ground leaving the entrance to the next room. The shinobi would sheath his blade once more. [break][break] "Let us not delay in entering the next room, lest more furniture starts blocking the path." the shinobi says.
