Tonight we're going hard Just like the world is ours
It wasn't uncommon for Bartz to wake up in a field, and this time was no different even if he felt like he had been asleep for months instead of a few hours, but he just shrugged it off. He got up from the tree he had been lying on and stretched. He had been having the strangest dream about dancing for moogles and chocobos or something like that. Another thing to just shrug off. He yawned deeply, as he looked around noticing a town in the distant horizon. Bartz was a little worried about returning to a real city just in case he was there. He couldn't imagine the literal torture he would get from Faris for being away so long. Oh well. Whatever would happen would happen he guessed as he made for the town.
The streets were ablaze with an excited kind of frenzy, and Bartz was swept up in it as someone handed him a candied apple on a stick. Savoring the treat, Bartz wandered around the different booths taking in all the pretty baubles and doohickey's that looked like they'd be fun to play with for a few minutes. It was the scent of chocobo that caught his attention the most though, and he followed his nose to the race track.
Finishing off his apple, Bartz scooted and squirmed his way through the crowd to the front of the crowd and watched as people mounted the chocobos in what looked like racing gear. Bartz was slightly perplexed, but the breeze swept a particularly strong scent his way and his eyes shot open, and he began frantically looking around. He knew that scent? Bartz was about to walk over to the pen when someone hollered at him.
"You! You ever ridden a chocobo?" The woman asked moving to block his path forward. "Yeah, I have what ab-" Bartz began but the woman grabbed him by the arm and began leading him toward the pen. "Congrats. You've been picked to fill in in the chocobo race." She said leading him straight to
"BOKO!" Bartz cried out and the other racers looked over with sneers and glares. There was no denying it. Boko looked up from his feeder and kwed loud and excitedly as he began to chirp frantically. Bartz was overcome with emotions and gave his best friend a deep long hug while the woman just hmmed at him. "That's weird. That bird usually bites people when they come up to him. Bit unruly we were gonna just send him to be a worker chocobo, but that's a hassle. Tell you what. Win the race and he's yours." And she walked away without a word. Boko kwehed that they didn't have much time to get ready, and Bartz nodded. Nothing mattered more than winning this race. Bartz quickly got into the gear, and hopped on Boko's back like it had only been hours since last they met.
The pair headed trotted over to the other racers and chocobos, but none would give him the time of day. It didn't matter much though. "We got this don't we buddy?" Bartz kwehed at Boko who responded with a resounding yes.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] There was simply so much to take in an experience! Ryne would admit to herself that she felt a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people and how much was going on. Vendors lined the streets to sell their wares and many others were advertising their events to any passersby that were willing to listen. Some that were not willing to listen were literally stopped in their tracks. Which is how Ryne found herself in her current predicament because she had not quite learned how to say no firmly. She did know how to stand up for herself! After everything she had gone through on the First--how could she not be able to do so? It was, well, just really hard to do so when she was caught off guard and almost literally dragged off to participate in a Chocobo Race. Ryne felt so very out of place after she had been paired with a rather sweet and gentle chocobo that wanted nothing more than to be fed some greens and be scratched along the feathers of her neck. [break][break]
The other racers seemed to be quite ready to start this race, and Ryne was unsure if she should even try to speak with them. In all honesty, she felt a little intimidated around all these strangers and participating in an event she had little knowledge of. The First did have chocobos in the wild and hand-raised, but Amaros were much more prevalent and known to her. The Crystarium relied so heavily upon the gentle animals to get around with. Would a chocobo feel similar? Bowing her head low, Ryne sighed to herself as she wondered how she was so easily swept up in unwanted situations like this. She reminded herself that it would not be so bad because the worst thing to happen would be that she lost. The idea of losing did not really bother her, and it would be something new for her to try! Raising her head, she smiled brightly to bring up her mood and comfort herself. [break][break]
Looking around, she caught sight of yet another racer that added been added to the roster. A young man that did not seem too much older than herself as he talked to his own chocobo. The bird seemed quite familiar with his racer, and Ryne could not help but admire how cute he was. The chocobo and not the racer! Her cheeks flushed a little at the unexpected thought. Should she say something? Otherwise, he could look her way and catch her staring and think her rude and odd! "Were you stopped and dragged over to participate, too?" she asked with a somewhat shy smile.

Although Bartz knew the bond between him and Boko was made of the strongest of material, he did happen to notice that comparatively he had no racing material. The other chocobo jocks had on fancy clothes and had crops and spurs, and the chocobos themselves, a rainbow display, had helmets, saddles, and little masks adorning their bodies. They looked quite fancy, but a single sliver of fear pierced Bartz like a splinter in a young maiden's shoe. There had been plenty of times that he and Boko had gotten out of a tight spot, but they had never actually raced other people. Trying to distance himself from those thoughts, Bartz absentmindedly patted Boko's beak before he lightly nipped at Bartz' fingers.
He was waving the pain from his fingers asking Boko why he did that for when someone finally did approach him. "Y-Yeah," he started turning towards the feminie voice that sounded a bit too young to be here before, "WOAH!" Bartz blinked a couple of times before rubbing his eyes to make sure he wasn't making it up. The girl's eyes were BLUE! And not like sky blue, but like glowing like a mystical orb or something blue. He wasn't the best with metaphors and especially not in the moment. Or a simile even. Bartz stared slackjaw for a few seconds before realizing that he probably looked dumb which was a usual occurrence or so he was told.
"Oh yeah! So listen," Bartz launched in clapping his hands together and holding them together staring down them at the maybe possessed girl. "So believe it or not, this is my best buddy in the whole wide world....worlds? This is Boko. And you see we were just taking a nap and then wabam I wake up and he's gone and I'm in this strange new place, and we were seperated for a long time, and I got turned into a frog for a little bit, and I think I saw the god of the moogles at some point to, but anyway now they're saying I have to win this race if I want to keep Boko, so I got to win. Will you help me sabotage the event, not that I think that Boko can't win, but sometimes you gotta do the right thing even if it's not the 'right' thing you know what I mean?" Bartz took a moment from his projectile word vomit to give the girl a pleading look as he sucked in some air to keep the one sided conversation going. "Oh and I'm Bartz. Nice to meet ya."

[attr="class","ayab-text"] What had begun as an attempt at being social quickly devolved into sheer, utter confusion for the poor girl. Ryne could only stare up at the young man as he suddenly began to speak to her in a whirlwind of words. This was quite different than when Urianger began to go on one of his endless, informative tangents when he wished to explain a situation to her. At least he spoke slowly enough for her to attempt to keep up with his fanciful way of speaking. But this? Oh, no, Ryne felt quite helpless as the sudden urge to sink into the ground beneath her nearly overwhelmed her entirely. How could one person speak so quickly to someone he had just met? What could she even attempt to respond with? He was hardly giving her the opportunity to do so! The young girl nearly began flailing her arms as she began to dart her head back and forth to see if anyone noticed her current, sorry predicament. [break][break]
No, she was quite alone in attempting to maneuver through this odd interaction. Ryne could hear Gaia within her mind telling her to just shout at the man to just shut it, but that would just be rude and wrong! All she had really managed to catch from his tangent was that he had awoken in this world without his Chocobo and now he had to win his companion back. And then he wished for her to help him sabotage the entire race?! Ryne began to wring her hands as a sudden wave of anxiety rushed through her body at even trying to do such a thing. But Bartz did seem quite desperate to win back his friend from this competition. She began to worry her bottom lip between her teeth as she contemplated the situation she had unwittingly set herself up for. [break][break]
"Have you considered simply riding off with Boko once the race starts? The audience will be too enamored with the event to notice, and it would be difficult to stop you as the racers will be focused on their own attempts to win," Ryne stated after a few moments. It seemed to be a more logical conclusion to the situation without throwing herself into the middle of this. How would she even sabotage the other racers? Cast a sleep spell on the chocobos? Veer her own chocobo during the race to throw off the other racers? Her expression turned more contemplative as she considered helping Bartz without quite realizing it. It would be unfair of him to lose and be unable to keep his friend, and it was not like Ryne had any desire to win this race for herself. She had simply been dragged in! [break][break]
"Okay, let's do it! I am not quite sure what I would do to sabotage the other racers, but no one should be separated from their friends like that." Her lips curled into a gentle smile as she reached out her hand for the Chocobo to scent before petting the creature without his permission. "My name is Ryne, Bartz. It's wonderful to meet you as well."
Tonight we're going hard Just like the world is ours
Bartz continued to stare at the bright eyed girl with all the earnest he had. This just had to work, it just had to. He assumed the girl's frantic looks around were her looking around for potential distractions. Good. She was already on board. Bartz gave her time to think up her perfect scheme, shining a bright smile in her direction as he looked over to nod to Boko. He said we got this with just his glance. Bartz couldn't really believe his own luck. How quickly he made friends sometimes astounded him.
"Run away?" he quipped back putting a finger to his chin to think on it. "And sully Boko's good name?" He said striking his breast with his fist and standing erect. He looked over to Boko. "Right buddy?" Boko answered with a peck to Bartz' noggin and kwehed. "What do you mean why didn't I think of that first?" he whined rubbing at the spot on his head. "I'll have you know that's exactly what I would have done........okay probably not." He laughed fully ending with a soft sigh.
"Ryne, that's a pretty name," he said as he watched the other racers start to mount their chocobos. "Let me think, let me think." The idea came to him as he saw one of the other racers cruelly yank their chocobo away from a pile of gysahl greens. "Aha!" He said waiting for the rider to leave before running over to the pile and picking up as many as he could carry in his arms. "Okay so hear me out," he said letting Boko snatch one after lowering his head for the girl to pet. He looked around and took the sack tied around Boko and shoved as many as he could in. "Okay, idea. What about when we get far enough away. You accidentally drop all these. Everyone knows chocobo love a good green. Hopefully the food is enough of a distraction for these good guys and gals to ignore their riders and go for the food. In the chaos, Boko and I can slip away til I can get him somewhere safe?" Bartz did his mile a minute explanation again hoping Ryne understood. "I don't know how to thank you, Ryne. I sure owe ya one."
