Let me know if you need more. I plan for this to be a wholesome encounter.

[attr=class,bulk] It was odd to the young genome. She was sure more people crowded the earthy city of Aljana than typical. There were plenty of tents pitched outside the walls to gather for reasons beyond Mikoto. Why would any rational human being want to sit in the scratchy, uncomfortable sand? Why did her predecessor want to live below its surface? And why did people dedicate themselves to this invisible ‘Ifrit’ that burned all their resources, forcing them to live in such conditions. Their master did not even respond back. [break][break] Mikoto had been left to Kuja’s apartment while he made preparations at his secondary home. While she patiently waited, she quietly decided to pad through the city. It was not grinding on her nerves this week. She wondered if the streets were mostly empty because of an event at the temple. She had not got the will to push through a crowd with the last time she sated her curiosity there. [break][break] Perhaps it was the heat? She found by noon her mouth felt swollen and dry when she wandered the streets. Still, it seemed rather unproductive to sit around and do nothing. She decided to take a stroll along the small river that served as the life pulse of Aljana. She knelt and dipped her hands in it to get a drink. [break][break] “What are you doing out here? You’re supposed to be with family or at the temple. You’ll scorch if you stay out.” [break][break] Mikoto creased her brow and stood up from her crouched position to face the lady. She wore baggy clothing and a cloth to cover her head to protect it from the heat. A straw hat kept the sun out of her eyes. [break][break] Family? What was that? And the temple...she currently refused. She dumbly shook her head at the lady, her eyes lazily narrowed in that apathetic look. [break][break] “Neither, huh? Well, you can come help me with work then.” She turned to join the other ladies, all dressed similarly. [break][break] “What is ‘work’?” Mikoto asked bluntly, her head tilted to the side. [break][break] The other ladies chuckled and crossed their arms in thought. “What a good question. What IS work?” They hummed nearly collectively as they looked at each other. [break][break] “I suppose it’s sweating together.” The person who greeted her together. She smiled at Mikoto in greeting. “We will be planting some more today. Your help will aid us greatly, because we are short one today.” [break][break] Mikoto stared, unsure what to say. “Is it an order?” [break][break] “What? No child. No one orders you to do work. You just work because it needs to be done. People need to eat after all.” There was another peal of laughter as they put an arm around her shoulder. “Come on, let’s get you booted up.” [break][break] Mikoto followed quietly behind, while the other women chattered with each other.
Terra had been travelling around her new world, trying to get her bearings. It wasn't particularly difficult, since she could fly in her Esper form. In fact, if anything, it was quite enjoyable. She hadn't really been able to cut loose in that form, not properly. Sure, she had used her Esper status to fight, and she had transformed a few times, but when it came to it, she had never been free to really explore her power. Not until now. Oh, she had tried, when they finally defeated Kefka, to lead the others to freedom, but her power had faded and gone then.
Now, though? The world was her's to explore.
Flying over the world had led her to the desert region. It was barren, and hot, and people were struggling. It seemed most had gone to the nearby temple, for reasons Terra didn't entirely understand, but those who remained had work to do. Gathering food, it appeared. She could have just flown on her way. It would have been easy, and these weren't her people. They weren't her friends.
But then again, the children she had taken care of hadn't been her people or her friends, not at first. She had seen people in need, and she had gone to them. Was this that different? Besides, she was totally without a purpose in this world. She had no plan, no idea what to do with the rest of her life, and ifs he was to be without a purpose, helping those in need when you found them seemed like a good thing to do.
Agreeing to help had transformed into having to plant some kind of rice in the nearby farming ground. Terra had second thoughts about that. She liked helping people and did what was needed, but mucking about in knee deep dirty water didn't particularly appeal to her. They had, at least, agreed to provide her with some more adequate boots, which was nice, as she didn't want to mess her own up, and she'd also taken off her cape and folded it up. It was a shame as the hood helped protect against the heat, but she didn't want it to get soaked and ruined.
While she was getting her boots on, which were dirty and unpleasant and she was doing her best not to wrinkle her nose, she looked up to see another new helper being lead over to join them. She looked maybe a bit younger than Terra, and curiously, she had a tail. Terra wondered if she was another Esper. She had already bumped into Asuna, after all. And animal features were sometimes a trait of Espers. Terra knew her own Esper form had claws, after all.
She decided to be as friendly as possible. "Hiya!" she smiled, giving a small wave. "I'm Terra. I just got here. Are you new as well?" she asked, assuming since the girl seemed as lost with the task as, well, Terra was...

Lol. Mikoto reacting to mom energy. @terrabranford
[attr=class,paccent]
[attr=class,bulk] Mikoto quietly followed behind her recruiters who all happily talked to each other. It was all about the family and their children. They also talked business about how they planned to proceed for the day and how much they expected the harvest to yield. Mikoto listened curiously, trying to understand what they were talking about. They had very important job to ensure the success and survival of their own race. It made sense to the young genome, however, their overall tone seemed cheerful about it. Not the neutral, sober tone of the genomes. Was work such as their’s supposed to be something to be happy about? [break][break] Mikoto felt her own mood lighten. Her heart felt softer. [break][break] She looked up to see a pretty girl giving her a wave. She had not seen anyone with green hair before. It was usually varying shades of a brown. Mikoto studied it for a moment, not answering the other at first. Nor did she return the wave, her hands left at her side. Her name was Terra. Yet, she was not a planet full of disembodied souls and empty vessels. [break][break] “New. Yes.” She said with unbashed terseness. “I have not done this ‘work’ before.” [break][break] The other ladies directed her to sit next to Terra, while they found the same knee-high waterproof boots for her to put on. Mikoto refused the overalls. She found the clothes here were not quite made to be comfortable with her tail. The last dress she wore chafed her backside and it was not an experience she wanted to repeat. [break][break] Mikoto pulled on the thick boots before looking at Terra. “Why are you designated ‘Terra’?” It bothered her a little. Names should not matter to her. They had not really held a meaning to her other than people seemed to ask for it to identify others from a crowd. Yet…”You are not the Terra, I know.” [break][break] The other working ladies came to bring them wide brim straw hats to protect their eyes and face from the sun. “Now, now.” The older lady chided Mikoto. “This Terra does not need to be the same as the other Terra you know.” She moved to fix that hat on Mikoto’s head and tie the straps under her chin. Then, she came to help Terra with her hat. [break][break] “The proper response is to say Hello, then your name.” [break][break] Mikoto stared for a moment, then look back to Terra. “Hello, Mikoto.”
The girl's tone was completely unfamiliar, and yet, there was something in her eyes that Terra couldn't help but relate to. That lack of familiarity with the world around her. Terra knew that well. When she was first freed from the slave crown, she had found herself, for the first time, with her own thoughts and agency and often felt that everything she encountered was new and strange. Everybody else seemed to naturally understand the world, but to Terra, it was wild, it was new, it was sometimes terrifying but always fascinating. This girl... she had the same eyes.
Although none of Terra's personality. She might have had new freedoms, but she had kept her smile, her personality, her spirit. She still remembered flirting with Locke and Edgar shortly after escaping Figaro. They had been so awkward afterwards. Terra hadn't told anybody, but she had been so proud of herself. Flirtation and romance was a mystery to Terra, so the fact that she had pulled it off so well made her so proud. Even if their reactions had probably slightly been tempered by the fact they had just seen her use magic for the first time. And well, all she did was wink and smile, but, well, it had worked, hadn't it?
She brought herself back to the present, forgetting the memory. Maybe this girl was like she had been? Controlled all her life and now just seeing the world for the first time. Terra knew only too well what that was like. "It's okay, I haven't done work like this before either," Terra smiled gently, hoping to put the girl at ease. Besides, it was true. This was a new to Terra as it was to this strange girl.
The girl seemed to take some odd offence to Terra's name, and despite the kindly farmers coming to Terra's defence, she couldn't help but want to explain to the girl herself. It seemed to hurt her, and Terra didn't like that. She wanted to put her mind at rest. "It's the name my parents picked for me, in a world that's... lost to me now. It sounds like the Terra you knew wasn't somebody you liked. I'm sorry. But I can promise, I'm not that person. I'm an entirely different Terra," she smiled what she hoped was a cheerful smile to help win her over.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Mikoto. I guess we can learn on the job together, yeah?" Terra giggled softly, hoping to put her at ease.

Mikoto has lots of socially awkward questions. @terrabranford
[attr=class,paccent]
[attr=class,bulk] Mikoto tugged her boot on as she listened to Terra without looking at her. She explained her parents simply gave her a name. “The Terra I know is not a person. It was a planet…” A planet she had been created to aid, before it was all lost to her as well. She tugged the boot on too tightly. [break][break] “I didn’t like…?” [break][break] It suddenly felt odd to hear that. She never thought about it before. Did she not like Terra? It was her home, the place she would offer herself. The price of her life was her sacrifice for the Terran people. A role she never fulfilled. She found she had only been happy when Garland spoke to her and when Zidane had appeared. The rest of the time… [break][break] She felt hollow inside. The other genomes held no conversations and continued monotonous lives. She could not blame her peers. They held no will or soul. But that emptiness remained. [break][break] Her face scrunched at the memories. There was a realization she was more content here. She could roam as she wished and sate her curiosity. She did not feel so empty when with another genome. The people talked back to her. The list could go on... Though she did miss parts of Terra - the solitude, the technology, the magic of it... [break][break] “Why did your parents name you Terra? You do not look like territory or land.” It’s literal translation was the land that made up a planet. It made sense for an entire planet to be named for it, but a person? Even the people of Terra were not capable of converting the entire essence of a planet into one person. Was that not why Garland was created to watch over the planet instead? [break][break] She finished pulling on her boots. Her straw hat was securely fashioned. The other female seemed to be happy. She had a face that was always that upturned lips. The young genome was finally coming to correspond such expressions to people being content. Mikoto curiously eyed her. “Yes.” She agreed to learn the job together. More could be done in a group than outside it. “Why do you assist?” [break][break] The ladies corralled everyone together and began to divvy out jobs. They were soon in a field surrounded by a variety of palm trees. It was explained the trees were meant to keep the sand and wind at bay from the area. Terra was given one end of a thin rope and Mikoto was given the other. [break][break] “It is important to keep the rows neat. So you two will hold the line even while we plant the rows. Pay attention to the technique because you will be planting too.” [break][break] Mikoto and Terra were guided where to stand with the rope. Her feet splashed in the water, though she found the water was too cold on her tail. She tried to keep it lifted to avoid the wet. She carefully watched as the other ladies carried small containers with seedlings to plant.
Terra wasn't sure why, but it felt slightly odd hearing that there was a planet named after her. She supposed it made sense; Terra as a word, not a name, could mean earth, and that meant that it could mean a planet. But also it was Terra's name. It was her, every part of her, when she heard it, and she found it odd to think of a place also named that. She supposed it wasn't that different from Edgar and Sabin having Figaro named after them, but, well, Terra didn't rule anything. Certainly not this planet that the girl spoke of.
For a moment, Terra paused when Mikoto asked why her parents named her that. She had no idea. It wasn't the type of question she had asked, for the short period of time she had a chance to ask such questions. She considered, and then she replied. "I-I don't really know. I never got to know my parents. I never got to ask," she admitted. "I'm... half-Esper though. Perhaps... I was meant to be tied to the element of Earth? Lots of Espers are elemental, but I never seemed to be." She didn't even know how that worked. Were they born into their elements or trained? Would Terra have been taught to be an Esper like the others had she been able to remain in the Esper's World? It was all she knew, and she hoped it would satisfy the curious girl.
The girl's manner was... strange. Her curiosity even outweighed Terra's own, back when she had first lost her memory. A lot had seemed strange to Terra then, but not this much. She had understood basic concepts, at least. "Oh, I was passing through, and thought I'd offer to help. Sometimes, it's nice to help. Why do you?" she asked, deciding to make the girl think about why she had volunteered, if she thought it was odd Terra was. Maybe she was getting paid? That'd make sense. Terra would have assumed she lived nearby, but she was too clueless about the work for that to be true.
Terra was glad of her boots as she splashed through the water, not feeling it, but she held the rope up as instructed. An easy task to start with, but she was definitely watching intently to learn the planting technique...

@terrabranford Questions about herself. Hard stuff.
[attr=class,paccent]
[attr=class,bulk] Mikoto stared at the other girl. The din of the older ladies seemed to be the new background noise, followed by the wind and sloshing water. Then, Mikoto’s curiosity about Terra’s name faded as the others spoke of Espers being tied to the element of Earth. What were espers and why were they related to the elements? Mikoto’s eyes trailed down to straightening the string. “Half?” Mikoto eyed Terra again. It seemed an odd choice for someone to be half of something. But, maybe it was to create a hybrid race? One that was more resilient? [break][break] “You were different.” Mikoto stated flatly. She was only half an esper, and unlike others, she had no attributing element. “I am sure it is beneficial. Differences help enhance others without those same attributes. Perhaps, they needed a non-element to balance the other elements.” She and her predecessor’s were the same but also different. It was all in the plan to feed off the other for strength. [break][break] She watched as the women took clumps of leafy seedlings in their fists. Then, with a firm, but delicate movement, the women twisted and pulled the seedlings apart. The roots of the plants are already eagerly grasping for the wet soil beneath the water. It made Mikoto ponder that only one type of plant could not offer all the nourishment a living being needed. [break][break] Terra asked Mikoto why she helped. “I was told to.” Mikoto said simply. That’s always how she was, wasn’t it? Was it because it felt nice to help and be useful, as Terra suggested. She tried to process that concept. “I was created to assist.” No. That still wasn’t right, was it? Her tail swayed agitatedly as she was being poked to provide an answer about herself. Such questions were difficult for her. “Nourishment is essential.” It was why they were the only one’s working today wasn’t it? Seems counterproductive for a community to let its members starve. [break][break] The workers were quick in their work. They hunched over with bent knees and shoved their hands in the cool water. It seemed the seedlings easily took root in the mud with a little bit of pressure. The seedlings were in neat tight rows, their leafy stems sticking out of the water. [break][break] “Oh. My back isn’t what it used to be. Won’t one of you take the seedlings in my stead?” She held out her hand.
