[attr="class","ayab-text"] A pleasant diversion was what Stella had intended when she signed up for this event. Of course, she could not say she had ever been on a romantic evening before. This would be an entirely new experience for her to indulge in. Her violet eyes sparked with interest as she took in the various points of interest she would not mind visiting for this night. From what she can see, there is a winery and a rather illuminating bookstore she knew she would like to visit outside of this evening. There is already a pull for her to venture forth and procure for herself a lovely glass of white wine and a book to lose herself within. [break][break]
Of course, that would entirely defeat the purpose of this evening! Stella had taken care to dress more formally for this event to make sure she allowed herself the full experience of a date. One must be formally dressed and hold themselves with decorum, no? She was also basing this off of the events she had attended as the Oracle back on Eos, which may not have been her best way to draw initiative for this. A thoughtful hum escaped her at the thought as she idly tapped her colored card against her hip. Who had she gotten for her date? That was no doubt the sheer excitement of this event for many: not knowing what to expect or how this evening would play out. [break][break]
Her violet eyes shift almost a little restlessly in wait for her date for this evening. Stella could not deny to herself that she could feel certain anticipation for how this would go. A soft laugh escaped her at how liberating it felt to do such a normal thing that most people had experienced before entering adulthood. The circumstances of her past could not be helped, but she was quite willing to indulge in these whims now that she had the chance to do so. Perhaps things were happening as they were meant to without the sweeping hands of the Astrals or Etro to guide her forward this time.
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Vincent hoped he wouldn’t regret signing up for this event. Honestly, he hadn’t been planning on it but Cissnei had insisted it would be fun and get his mind off things. And she’d not-so-subtly hinted that he needed to get over Lucrecia. And well. If he was being honest with himself he agreed. Years had passed. Years in which he’d grown older and smarter, in which he’d realized Lucrecia wasn’t the woman he’d thought her to be. Just before his arrival in Zephon, he’d visited her a final time. He had said goodbye. [break][break] It was time to move on and stop living in the past. Sure, this little dating event was just going to be a diversion for the night, but it was a step in the right direction. He didn’t think he would find some everlasting love here or anything nonsensical like that. But he’d given in to Cissnei’s pressure and decided it might be good for him. [break][break] He’d dressed well for the event, using some of the gil he’d earned as a mercenary to buy a new suit. He looked more like his old Turk self than he had in years and years. A look in the mirror told him that it was most definitely a good change. He looked like a man again, not the monster he’d become for too long. And now, Vincent held the colored card that led him to the place to meet his date. He was immediately relieved to see the options were quite appealing. A winery and a cafe were just the type of places he would have chosen for himself. [break][break] He stood for a moment, taking in the crowded Vinum Street and all it had to offer. Then he got to looking for his date, hoping she would be a kindred soul. Someone he could relax with without having to do anything too outgoing or outside his comfort zone. And then he saw her, clutching the same color of card. He felt relief and even maybe the smallest twinge of excitement when he realized he even recognized her! [break][break] It felt like almost a lifetime ago when he’d first met Stella on the rainy, cold streets of Sonora. They’d shared a quiet moment with the ninja Mu. He’d given her his cloak as protection from the weather. He’d meant to see her again, in fact. But then the whole debacle with Cecil and the guard had occurred and that had never come to pass. Well, it looked like he’d have his chance now. Idly, he wondered if she still had his cloak. [break][break] He suddenly realized he’d not been on a date in… well, decades. Not since Lucrecia. He wasn’t entirely positive that he knew how to behave and he suddenly felt uncharacteristically nervous. But he tried to push that away as he approached her, pretending he was confident. “Stella,” he greeted her, flashing his matching card. “I hadn’t expected to see you again. Though it’s a pleasant surprise.” He glanced back at their options. “I’ll let you choose where we go first.”

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Stella idly glanced down at the black dress she was wearing as she smoothed out the nonexistant wrinkles with her free hand. A silly thing to do as she knew she looked just fine. The anticipation within her seemed to be evolving into nervousness until she heard a familiar voice. One she had not been expecting in the least as she turned to look up at Vincent. Oh! It was a pleasant surprise to see how well he had cleaned up compared to how she had met him on that rainy day. Granted, she had hardly looked any better! The two of them had been drenched by the rain before he had kindly offered her his cloak. If only she had known he would be her date for this evening, then she would have been able to return it to him. [break][break]
She placed her hand over her chest as she laughed gently at the flash of his colored card. In return, she brought up her other hand to show her matching one. "Neither did I, in all honesty! I am pleasantly surprised and quite happy at this turn of events," she stated easily. Where should she choose to start first, then? Vincent seemed at ease to allow her to choose, so she turned to glance back at their current surroundings. Stella hummed in thought for a moment before turning back and smiling, "Would you be inclined to some wine tasting? I find it an adequate way to ease away tension and a rather ideal icebreaker." [break][break]
Should she offer her arm to him or take his? The former would be a little out of character for the lady to do, but she also did not wish to cross a line if he had no inclination to get close like that so quickly. Deciding to forget the manners and etiquette that had been ingrained in her, she offered her arm for Vincent to take if he wished to. "If it sets you at ease, I do also still have your cloak. I had hoped to return it to you at some point and thank you for your kindness. If I had known we would be paired together this evening, then I would have brought it with me." [break][break]
Guiding them forward, Stella took a few moments to admire their surroundings before glancing back to Vincent. "Tell me, how have you been since our first meeting? I did hope you fared well since we parted ways." [break][break]
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Stella seemed just as relieved to recognize him as he had been to see her. Maybe Cissnei had been onto something about this whole festival idea. Perhaps it wouldn’t be the disaster Vincent had been dreading. And she certainly looked beautiful, the black dress bringing out her striking violet eyes. She looked quite different from that Sonoran night long ago when they were both drenched and freezing. [break][break] Vincent was relieved that she seemed happy to decide what they should do first. “A wine tasting sounds great,” he said, though he’d never actually done one. Sure he’d drank wine before, but never done a fancy tasting. It might end up being enjoyable. He was a little surprised when, after an apparent deliberation, Stella offered him her arm. But he gave her a small smile and took the proffered arm. [break][break] He chuckled softly when she brought up the cloak. Apparently it was on her mind too. “Don’t worry about it, you can keep it if you wish. I have others, and now that I live in Torensten I rarely have a need for them.” He let her lead them towards the winery as she asked about what he’d been doing since their first meeting. “I had actually planned on trying to catch hold of you again, to see how you were faring after that rainy night. But I had a runin with the Sonoran guard,” he explained. “I had to leave the city rather suddenly.” That was a mild way of putting his and Cecil’s predicament. [break][break] “But I’ve settled into Torensten and joined the Dragonblades. It’s been a good life.” He glanced at her, “And you? How has life in Zephon been treating you?” He realized he had no idea of her life before they’d met, not much anyway. He assumed she came from another world just as he had, but could he be incorrect? Could she have lived in Zephon her entire life? Well, the night was young. Those were questions he could ask later. [break][break] The two made their way into the winery where they were quickly seated at a little table away from the crowd next to a small window. Torchlight illuminated the beautiful surroundings of the Pearl and Crystal and cast long shadows through the room. A crystal vase of flowers sat in the middle of their little table. Vincent wasn’t exactly sure the protocol of what to do now. Did they have to order? Did they have to go up to the bar? [break][break] Thankfully it didn’t take long before his questions were answered. The tasting was apparently preset and a waiter dressed in a dark suit brought over two flights of tiny glasses before leaving Vincent and Stella alone again. He busied himself reading about the wines, two reds and two whites. He’d never had white wine before. [break][break] “Have you done one of these before?” he asked, glancing over at Stella.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Stella was pleasantly surprised that he had been keen to cross paths with her again as well. It was a somewhat foreign feeling in a way, because most people had only wished for her presence as the Oracle. Who she was as a person was irrelevent to the mantle that had defined a majority of her life. But those thoughts were pushed aside as Vincent did take her arm as they walked together. Again, she felt a pleasant sensation at the closeness she would not mind indulging in for this evening. It was something different and not unwelcome in the least for herself. Stella was beginning to grasp an understanding of why so many enjoyed these outings with their peers. Yes, there was a certain formality to it but also a hint of the unknown to keep her on her toes. [break][break]
"I suppose I must keep it, then. How else shall I have an excuse to cross paths with you again?" she asked with a slight quirk of her lips as her eyes glittered briefly with mischief. His explanation had her quirked her brow in curiosity. There was certainly a story to be heard beneath that brief explanation, but she did not push for more information. "I am grateful for your consideration of my wellbeing. I admit that it has been awhile since I have experienced such." Whether she would cross paths with her brother or Gentiana here was unknown to her, and she did not even know if they would remember her. Such heavy thoughts belonged for another night, though. [break][break]
"I have settled into Sonora well enough for the present. I stay at an inn in exchange for doing whatever tasks the innkeeper sees fit to assign me. I am not one to shy away from honest work, so it has been a worthwhile experience." There was not much for her to say beyond that at present. Stella was perfectly content with the brief silence between them as they headed towards the Pearl and Crystal. The moment they entered the building, they were soon seated at a table. Stella was impressed with the promptness of the service and how beautifully dressed the winery was. [break][break]
Soon enough their drinks were brought over for them to rest. Red wine and white wine to sample for their personal enjoyment. Her slim fingers wrapped around the base of the glass containing white wine as she glanced up at Vincent with a smile. "I have not done so often, but I have been present at such tastings before. It can be quite pleasant to experience the first time, so I do believe you will enjoy it." Her violet eyes narrowed for a moment as she smiled coyly. "Allow me to guess, you enjoy red wine? I prefer white myself, as I enjoy the hint of sweetness they provide. Why not try for yourself and see which you enjoy more, Vincent?"
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Vincent’s brow furrowed slightly as Stella mentioned that it had been a while since someone cared about her wellbeing. He didn’t pry, but he wondered at what her life was like. It sounded lonely, furthering his assumption that she was a traveler from a distant land. Vincent had been lucky to find so many of his old friends and allies here in Zephon already. Others, he knew, were less lucky. Maybe one day he’d have to ask her about her life before arriving here.[break][break]
He wasn’t surprised to learn that Stella had settled into Sonora. There was little reason to leave the northern city without cause. It certainly had more modern comforts and technological advances than Torensten. Vincent even missed it a little. He’d have to figure out a way to get back in sometime. Perhaps time would allow them to forget about the stunt he and Cecil had pulled. [break][break]
Apparently his likes were transparent and Stella immediately guessed he enjoyed red wine. He’d had little opportunity to truly relax and enjoy things like wine, not since his days long ago as a Turk. He could barely recall the taste, but the memory of liking it remained. But Stella was right, he should determine which of the four he preferred. That was, of course, the whole point of a wine tasting. [break][break]
Vincent forced himself to relax into the date. He’d forgotten how to do this, he’d forgotten how to be a normal man. But he was willing to give it his best shot tonight. So he went for one of the glasses with white wine first. Time to branch out into the unfamiliar. It was time to shatter the comfort zone of familiarity and stoicism he’d built around himself for so, so long. [break][break]
The wine was cold and pleasantly sweet. He had nothing to compare the taste to, but he found he quite liked it. There was the hint of some sort of fruit--the little tasting information sheet claimed it was pineapple. Then, for the proper comparison, he moved on to one of the glasses of red. This wine was rich and strong and wholly different. And it brought memories flooding back suddenly, of days under that tree in the sun… No, he told himself sternly. It’s time to stop living in the past. He finished the red quickly before returning to the white pensively. [break][break]
“I can see why you enjoy the white,” he commented. “I’ve never had anything like it, but it’s quite good.” He leaned back slightly in his chair and relaxed into the new experience. Vincent wasn’t the best at small talk and keeping conversations going, but he wanted to try at least. So he asked after a bit, “How are you liking Torensten so far?” As the night went on, he hoped he’d manage to break out of his awkward shell a little more. [break][break]
It didn’t take long before he’d finished the small samples they’d been given. “Do you want to get a full glass and relax for a bit before we move on?” [break][break]

[attr="class","ayab-text"] It was easy enough for her to take in the tense posture of how he sat and the minute changes in his expression that denoted his discomfort. Stella did not believe it stemmed from her presence but rather the entire situation that involved a certain intimacy when it came to a date. At least, that was her assumption for why he seemed to be pushing himself past what seemed to be his personal boundaries. This was a lesson in patience for her and one she was able to follow easily. How could she do any different? This was outside of her sense of normalcy as well. Dating was such a casual, normal thing that she had had no time or inclination for. [break][break]
Another lapse of silence she was content to stay in until Vincent felt comfortable enough to speak. Perhaps unwelcome memories concerning the wine? She continued to sip at her own glass for a measure of warmth and the liquid courage it provided. A small amount of wine was enough to help ease away any reservations without overdoing it. As always, there should be a balance when indulging such things. Stella placed her glass down as she reached for the red wine before looking up at Vincent with an easy smile. "If you enjoy a wine with a subtle hint of sweetness and fruit then white is certainly a good choice. Of course, red offers a more dry taste that can be richer." At least, that was her experience differentiating the two! [break][break]
"I find myself enjoying it so far! There is a city back in my world called Altissia that it reminds me of. Surrounded by an endless expanse of water and where you can take gondolas to venture through. It is quite a beautiful sight to behold," she answered with a fond smile on her lips. Breaking free from her own memories, she noticed the samples were already gone. Wine usually was a good way to ease away the time and enjoy yourself! "I would enjoy that, Vincent. There is still plenty to do and see but the night is still young!" She clapped her hands together with a hint of excitement as her violet eyes glittered at the promise. [break][break]
Notes: He is doing well! Stella is fine with gently easing him along for conversation. <33
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]His date was clearly a patient woman for which Vincent was relieved and thankful. Stella didn’t seem overly bothered by his lapses into silence and his obvious tension. It had absolutely nothing to do with her, he hoped she realized. In fact, he was enjoying himself more than he’d thought he would. It would just take time, and not a small amount of effort on his part. But with each minute that passed, he became more and more happy with his decision to attend this event tonight. [break][break]
Thankfully, Stella seemed more than happy to help him fill the silence and ease him through his awkwardness. She spoke about the wine as someone who was certainly much more well-versed than Vincent was. He decided he preferred the white mostly for the admittedly stupid reason that it was new. New memories and experiences could be associated with this taste. It would help his mission to force himself to leave the past firmly in the past. [break][break]
Vincent listened with interest as Stella spoke about a city called Altissia. So, he’d clearly been right. She was from yet another distant world, a traveler like he was. She smiled fondly as she remembered the city that seemed so akin to Torensten. Maybe she’d stay in down here in the south for longer, chasing the memories of her homeland. “Your Altissia certainly sounds very similar,” he agreed. “Torensten is honestly nothing like anywhere I’ve been before, but I like it regardless. The world I came from was sometimes too enthralled with technological advancement and progress. It was much like Sonora, so in a way the simpler life here is a nice change.” [break][break]
Stella agreed on the glass of wine, so Vincent made sure to get the waiter’s attention for them when he walked back by. He ordered the white, of course. It didn’t take long at all before the full glass was in Vincent’s hand and he was sipping it pensively. The alcohol was light and certainly not too strong, but it seemed just enough to help him open up just a little. Or maybe that was just due to Stella’s charismatic aura. Either way, Vincent found himself talking again much more easily than usual. [break][break]
“You mentioned Altissia, but I’m afraid I don’t know much else about your homeworld,” he commented lightly. “What was it like where you came from, if you don’t mind talking about it? It’s interesting to hear of all the different worlds that converge here.”

[attr="class","ayab-text"] A beautiful city. Unpleasant, blurred memories lurked beneath the surface of those thoughts. Something that had happened she could no longer quite recall. It was like attempting to grasp at smoke, and Stella was unsure if she wished to prod at the wounds that would open if she did. Running from the past was unlike her as she often did what she must no matter how unpleasant it was. For tonight there was no need to do so, though. The memories would return with time or they would linger away outside of her reach. Stella would rather wait and see what would happen at this point in time. Zephon was offering her a new start and perhaps she would prefer to leave her own past buried for the near future. [break][break]
"My world has similar technological marvels. Perhaps the most advanced I witnessed was the city of Insomnia. The crown jewel of the kingdom of Lucis." Again, there was a hazed blur as she attempted to recall just how her first and only visit to that city had been. Once the glass of wine had arrived, she reached for it and sipped at her drink idly. It did help to ease away her own tensions from these burdensome, blurred memories she held. But her smile was relaxed and present as Vincent began to keep the conversation flowing of his own accord. Progress! Gently moving things along tended to be the best method to easing conversation and keeping all parties involved engaged and interested. [break][break]
"The star I come from is known as Eos. There is much beauty to be found there, but also much corruption as well. I am sure such a thing is similar upon any star, though," she mused as she took another sip. "My homeland was known as Tenebrae. 'Tis a lush and verdant kingdom and my bias shall show when I say there is no kingdom more lovely. I have very fond memories from my childhood spent within the gardens of my mother's home in Fenestala Manor." Her expression was filled with fondness and a tinge of sadness in knowing she may never be able to return. Stella shook away the nostalgic memories before smiling at Vincent softly. "May I ask you the same question in turn?"
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]There was an undercurrent of sadness as Stella spoke about her homeland. Vincent wasn’t sure if the sadness stemmed from what may have happened there, or from the thought that she may never be able to return. He supposed many people would have a deep desire to return to the land they originally came from. But for Vincent, Zephon was already starting to feel more like home than Gaia had in years. Of course the knowledge that many of his friends and allies were here as well certainly helped him feel more at ease.[break][break]
It seemed as though their worlds might be similar in essence. Was this ultra-advanced city of Insomnia like Midgar? Would Stella have similar experiences with a steel sky? Or was that a trait unto Midgar alone? “Tenebrae sound beautiful,” he said softly as she described the beautiful kingdom with fondness. “I am sorry you are so far away from it now.” [break][break]
She asked the same question of him which wasn’t surprising. But what to say of his home? He thought silently for a moment, not brooding so much as just trying to put his thoughts in order. Vincent took another sip of wine. “My world is known as Gaia. It has had a troubling history, rife with corruption as well. There was a vast steel city there known as Midgar. I was born there but have few fond memories of the place. Many of my adult years were spent in a small village known as Nibelheim.” He didn’t get into the specifics on Nibelheim and Shinra Manor. That was far too much conversation for a casual date. “I traveled for years as well, never staying in one place for too long.” He shrugged. “From my experience so far, Zephon is already far preferable to anywhere I lived in Gaia. It may be odd, but I have no desire to return.”[break][break]
He tried to not let memories bog him down. He shook them away, clearing his mind and focusing on the present. And at present, his wine glass was empty. He glanced at Stella’s near-empty glass as well. What to do next? The night was young and there seemed to be endless opportunities. They’d barely made a dent in their 500 gil. “Should we find somewhere for dinner next? Or would you care to check out The Poet’s Pen?” There were too many intriguing options on Vinum Street.
